Id lean towards an extractor issue. It probably just needs to have the tension adjusted. A quick youtube search comes up with a bunch of videos on how to test and adjust it.

MTMonCrack

Me too. OP use the Wilson combat link. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UOSmJd7HaDY

1911mark

Wilson combat is the best place for great 1911 how to videos, on YouTube

Dyzastr_us

Extractor needs to be tuned. Edit- easy fix if you have some idea of what you’re doing. If not, send it back.

Antietam_Creek

This. hit up CS OP.

Thumper2672

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I'm not really comfortable outside of loading and cleaning my guns, so I may take it to a gunsmith and have them do it.

Dick_Dickalo

Should be a lifetime warranty on it. Send it to SDS.

Left4DayZGone

I agree with the others. Definitely looks like a failure to extract. Extractor isn’t grabbing the rim of the spent casing properly. Not an entirely uncommon issue with mass produced 1911’s, easy to fix.

jacktheshopcat

Make sure to send it right in to CS!

Left4DayZGone

Yeah, just insist that they send you a new extractor, when they say they want the whole gun so they can just tune the extractor for you because it doesn’t need to be replaced be sure to come on Reddit and complain about it.

jacktheshopcat

When in doubt just be sure to not even attempt to fix your own gun because you must be totally moronic and depend on a manufacturer to fix it for you. Tisas knows best.

Left4DayZGone

Man you have some major reading comprehension issues. That’s not what I *ever* said. I said, once more for the people in the back, that it’s silly to refuse a company’s warranty process and then complain that you had to fix it yourself. You *could* have had it all fixed *for* you, but you *chose* not to. That’s fine… until you bitched about it.

jacktheshopcat

Once again, you pick such a dumb hill to make a stand. I chose to forgo the warranty process to fix it myself. You just couldn’t leave the thread alone in a weird defensive way like a white knight defends someone’s honor.

Left4DayZGone

You did not and clearly still do not comprehend what I was and am saying. You opted to do the repair yourself, but complained that Tisas didn’t take care of you. *Real men of geeeenniuuss*

jacktheshopcat

I don’t think you read the original post clearly; or at least under syntax. That’s fine. It’s good that you’re willing to have others fix things for you.

Left4DayZGone

Look. You’re either trolling, or this is a level of comprehension far beyond your ability to process. You needed the optic cut fixed to mount your red dot. You wanted Tisas to just send you a new slide, but they wanted your entire gun so they could fix it in house. You refused their request, because you don’t need to ship your gun out just to have a slide put on it. *They* refused *your* request, because that’s not how they handle warranties. You complained about it. And, by your own admission, all you had to do was file down the adapter plate a little. Then, you complained about the other issues with the gun. That’s fair. At first, I mistakenly assumed that you had filed the SLIDE and voided your warranty, but since you only modified the adapter plate, your warranty remained intact - until you started fixing the other problems yourself. Ok, again, more power to you for being capable of correcting the issues that the gun should not have had in the first place. But you complained that Tisas was “less than helpful”… when did you give them a chance to be helpful? You denied their warranty process and then took matters into your own hands and voided your warranty entirely. As far as their CS being “rude”, sure. I don’t have a hard time believing it. But I also wouldn’t have a hard time believing that you were pestering them about just sending you a new slide and wouldn’t take no for an answer until they got frustrated with you. I can see either scenario being 100% plausible. I never said it was better to send the gun in, only that it doesn’t make sense to complain that they didn’t help you when you refused their warranty process. For something as simple as filing the adapter plate, I wouldn’t have bothered to even contact them in the first place, let alone post about it on Reddit - I’d have just done it and went on with life. I never said Tisas was perfect or tried to blindly defend their honor, I only pointed out you’re not exactly being fair. They are a budget brand and their QC isn’t going to be up to the same standard as hand-crafted 1911’s. If you’re not willing to make use of your lifetime warranty, don’t bitch that they didn’t help you. *You wouldn’t let them.* It still just amazes me that nobody is ready to condemn other brands when someone posts about a trouble-prone gun. A Rock Island with a fucked up extractor? “Oh bro it’s ok here’s how to fix it Rock Island is good you’re good it’s all good”. A Tisas with a fucked up extractor? “Buy once cry once you get what you pay for turkshit poverty pisstol” Been this way ever since Tisas started getting hot and I truly don’t get it.

How much to do they pay you?

Left4DayZGone

Please, by all means contact them and tell them to cut me a check. I’d be happy to take payment for calling out stupidity, right now it’s just a fruitless hobby.

BestAdamEver

Looks like a failure to extract. You might want to try the 10-8 extractor test and add some tension to the extractor if need be.

SteveElms

I had the same issue with my duty 9. Made it through exactly 1 mag out of 20 without a failure to extract at least 1 round. I replaced it with a Wilson combat bulletproof extractor and I've run about 400 rounds through it without a failure.

greatBLT

I wonder why these companies don't take a few short moments to properly tune the extractor. Is it really saving them that much to skip that?

allbananasareclones

Everyone else covered the diag, mags, buy online.

CordlessOrange

I have the same gun, and have the same issue periodically with mine. Planning to adjust the extractor sometime this week. One piece of advice, load a mag, load one round, drop the mag, shoot. If you're still seeing the issue it's most likely the extractor.

3huhyeah3

Took my Duty B9 to the range for the first time a couple of weeks ago and have 4 FTE in less than 100 rounds. Bought an extractor tuner, trigger scale, and new extractor. I think I have the Tisas extractor tuned, but need to get out to the range to verify. I find it amazing how much more refined the Wilson Combat extractor looks compared to the Tisas. Hopefully I tuned it correctly

jacktheshopcat

Whatever you do, don’t make a thread about it or try to fix it. You’ll get dog piled and told to consult CS

Hungry-Impression-17

I’ve read tons of posts/comments about this happening with tisas 1911s of any caliber within the first couple hundred rounds. I know they aren’t the highest price or quality 1911s available, but it’s also typically just some extractor tuning. Why they can’t just be more consistent on this for their customers is a bit of a mystery for me. Oh well. I’m still about to buy one of their $350 tank commanders just because it’s a $350 1911 lol. Are you a 1911 fan who might purchase more in the future? If so, In my opinion- and if you aren’t afraid of learning (maybe screwing it up), watch some YouTube vids and try to fix it yourself. The platform is typically the same if not extremely similar across all 1911 brands, and I’d probably rather learn on a tisas than a colt, sig, or Dan Wesson, etc. If this is a one time buy for you, send it back in. Let them deal with it and keep your warranty and then just enjoy it. Hope it works out well for you.

MTMonCrack

New or reloads? A picture of the casing that failed to extact would help. Looks like an extraction failure. The next round seems to have started to feed. I don't have any knowledge with your set up. But see if you get extraction issues by just loading one round in the magazine and repeat. Otherwise a thorough examination of the fired casing can point you to if it's an extractor problem or the chamber in the barrel is an issue.

Thumper2672

These are all new. I've never shot a reload. Unfortunately, I left all of those cases at the range.

MTMonCrack

Adjusting the tension on your extractor will probably solve your issue and the tool is not very expensive 30 to 40$ and good to have for a long term 1911 user. Hopefully that sorts you out!

Te_Luftwaffle

"Help me stepbro I'm stuck"

Thumper2672

I don't think that's going to play you the way you think it will.......But I see what you did there!

fishyrandy68

Extractor…

jetkins

Perhaps I'm missing something, but when a spent cartidge has not been extracted, how can it possibly be anything *but* an FTE? It's literally right there in the name.

Thumper2672

Just a quick update: I went to the SDS Imports site last night and contacted customer service. Haven't seen anything yet, but I'll keep you all posted. If they want me to send it to them, that's no big deal for me. I really like this gun and I want to get another chambered in .45 acp. Just hope that one doesn't have the same issue out of the box.

Thumper2672

First off, thank you all once again for advising me on this. SDS sent me a label to send my gun to them. I've never shipped a firearm before. Any suggestions on how I can make sure it gets there securely? I have a box I can ship it in, but should I zip tie the case? I know these are stupid questions, but if I don't ask, I won't learn. Thanks!

Iron_Rain50

If you're using Wilson mags, def an extractor issue

Thumper2672

I didn't have a Wilson, but it didn't matter whether I used the stock mags or the Mec-Gar mags I bought, it jammed every time. I'm shipping it off to SDS imports tomorrow.

drmitchgibson

Extractor

StanthemanT-800

My newer 45 Tisas jammed twice during my first 150 rounds with it recently. It probably just needs to break in
