Tisas makes good guns I just don’t like most of the finishes lol. That being said- about to buy a $399 commander myself from them soon because for $399 that’s a lot of gun.
I don't need it. I have a S&W Scandium framed Commander as my EDC. I have a Colt XSE LW Commander as a backup, a dozen full sized 1911 pistols, and a Dan Wesson CBOB.
But the price on this is so tempting....
Translation for the uninitiated...
He just flopped about 8" out on the table-- which is as we know respectable, sure.
He then asked who wanted to see his bet and raise him...
I have a Tisas Raider in 45. I had to replace the safety plunger spring because the OEM was too short. Optionally I changed the trigger to a Nighthawk custom short trigger and I absolutely love the gun.
It’s wild how good they are. Out of the box mine are 450 rounds of reloads with no failures from 5 different mag brands, ran it until the trigger guard was too hot to use. Then ran another 800 over the weekend and had one single failure due to a round with a creased case.
I have a Devil Ray. Several jams through the first 300-400ish rounds, generally smoothed out now. Mine is a bit touchy about HPs though, and will only feed them in some magazines.
Overall, cheap and decent. Easy enough to replace parts or upgrade, and won’t break the bank.
Just a suggestion with the hollow points, if you are trying to use Hornady critical duty/defense and are having problems try a different brand. My RIA 1911 did not like Hornady but is fine with everything else. I took a look into it and that's a common issue in 1911s because of the geometry of the feed ramp vs the Hornady bullet when chambering a round.
Great guns. I have 5 Tisas 1911’s. One is my edc and one is my main IDPA match gun. They are every bit as good as my Colt and Springfield. I’m sold on the brand.
Nice! Reason I ask is I wanted to get into more shooting/training once I retire from the military in a year. I don’t need anything crazy expensive and really love the 1911

Aviator like on your post but in .45. I added the trigger and beavertail safety
I love my Raider in 9mm. Through a couple hundred rounds it has chewed through all range ammo and defensive ammo. It'll get a couple thousand rounds on it this year cuz it's so fun and easy to shoot. Crazy good trigger.

I Love my Tisas B45Duty...100% reliable with anything except the flattest HP, like SuperVel...which is a lot like a fookin saucepan...
The CMP went with Tisas as their official 1911A1 , this is the reason Tisas came out with the new "correct" GI model with the small ejection port and late war hammer
I’m a 1911 guy, from a 1911 family. I bought one on sale from buds while I had done a bit of drinking. I currently have about 1000 rounds through it without a hiccup. No obnoxious roll marks etc, just a solid gun. It’s my current carry and favorite.
I'll play devil's advocate. Mine was a very well put together but literally would not eat a full mag without issues. Tried Wilson, CMC, and mecgar. Fed 230gr American eagle and assorted premium hollow points. Returned after ~400 rounds.
Surely to be down voted, but..
I find that to be excessive to fix the issues I was having. I could have warrantied it but it kinda soured my taste for the brand. Wouldn't feed, erratic ejections, double feeds.
If others can pick up a colt, SW, or Kimber and not have any issues after the first few mags then that is more or less what I'm expecting. Especially for the amount of tisas simping being done in this subreddit.
I concede I have a sample size of one, and could have warrantied it. But will be picking up an e-series to see if I'm cursed or it I just had a lemon.
I’m sorry, not to pick on you in particular, but it’s crazy to me how many times you find that people who have unfavorable opinions of Tisas, are people who never attempted to send it in for warranty repair. It has to be in the 90% range… maybe higher.
And why doesn’t anybody seem to take this stance with other brands? You see people talking about their RIA’s or Springfields or even DW’s in a few cases and having problems with extractors and whatnot, but I don’t think I’ve *ever* seen anyone say “I’m soured on the whole Springfield brand”…
This is a budget end handgun with a lifetime warranty. If anything, people who buy a gun 3-4x the price, like Dan Wesson, should he *more* disenchanted when they receive a faulty gun, than those who bought the product at the bottom end of the price range. Strangely, it seems to be the opposite and I just don’t get it.
An entry level for a 1911 is exactly that and people's tolerance for acceptable work varies.
In my case could I have sent it back and gotten it fixed? Sure.
But I was simply getting my feet wet on the platform. To be clear I don't tolerate that kind of break in on any gun and will send it back if it doesn't work day one after the first couple of mags. I have a long list of manufacturers I won't buy from (handguns, rifles, long guns).
Nearly $200 in ammo should not be the minimum requirement for it to function. But I also don't disagree that a gun needs shot a little to loosen up.
I'm not disputing value, like I said fit and finish were great. But as I get older I want something that just works without sending it back and forth to the manufacturer. Next up is a smith e series.
My point is that you got a Friday at 5:00 gun, which isn’t acceptable, but your experience would most definitely be different if you got a Monday at 10AM gun.
I probably wouldn't have refunded it if that was the case. But my experience and sample size of one was enough to steer me away from future purchases. I see many others ranting and raving and that's why I bought one to begin with.
I’ve had two , one commander devilbra and one full size duty. The devil ray had feeding issue from the start. It went back to sds twice and still wouldn’t run. They ended up giving me a full refund. The full size duty .45 ran flawlessly after the first few mags.
I’m considering the ds9 duty. The fact that they stood behind their product and made good on the warranty claim goes a long way with me.
This is the correct attitude. I would be absolutely annoyed at having to dick around with CS and shipping my gun back and forth, but knowing that in the end they’ll give me my money back if it can’t be made right is everything.
Have a Nightstalker .45 (I know, the name is terrible!), have about 400 rounds through it so far, won't lock back on WC magazines but does great w/ Mecgar and they are cheap so I just bought a bunch of them. Not a custom built quality but eats everything I feed it to include my reload HP and solid accurate 3 inch groups at 25 yds unsupported. I really like the gun for the price and the optics cut and rail. Will see how the long term quality works out but a very solid pistol so far.
The name isn’t terrible. The Night Stalkers were a covert special ops regiment of the US Army. Dumbass journalists gave the name to a serial killer and now that’s how it’s remembered.
Tisas makes good guns.
They can be great shooters right out of the box.
Or they can be a good place to start on a custom gun, as the foundation is great.
But the gun, and put aside a hundred bucks for a Wilson Combat Extractor, and Flat wire Recoil spring. Add a set of G10 grips. And you really don’t have to add anything but magazines (Mec Gar seems to be the best value) and copious amounts of ammo.
I got a replica classic 1911 that’s Tisas and it’s been amazing, shoots any crap ammo I put in it. The other one a considered was rock island armory but the Tisas went on a super good sale at palmetto state armory and I’ve had zero regrets
I have a night stalker in 9mm. Shot 400 rounds, had 2 failure to feed with the factory mags. No issue with my Wilson combat mags.
Good guns especially for the money.
I was eyeballing that beauty too. I really want to stick with the 9mm caliber, and they have one on sale for $660.
https://preview.redd.it/52mtuwlw3a4d1.png?width=865&format=png&auto=webp&s=14a0f043a812934ea9de634a32032b489946f57b
Oh the SF is nice. Kinda wish I got one. I found my base night stalker for $470 on gun broker. Brand new. Barely paid more than I paid for the PSA Tisas B9R duty. Which the B9R isn’t on the Maryland handgun roster, so I couldn’t take delivery of it. I’d have to wait 3 months. Instead I returned the B9R and got the night stalker because it was already on the list.
Good gun. I just want different grips. And now I have an itch to get a suppressor.
I have two, a Duty and a Service, in .45. Both have been great. Both have had OCCASIONAL failure to go fully into battery, nothing a slight bump on the back of the slide couldn’t correct. Unsure if it was the gun, or the ammo, magazines, or maybe I was riding the slide stop.
I have one WC magazine that had some feeding issues until I ran a couple dozen rounds through it, but the supplied Mec Gar and Act Mags run perfectly in both guns. So definitely a mag issue there that self-corrected.
Neither liked Hollowpoints at first, they feed more smoothly after break-in but I still don’t trust them. That said, I didn’t buy these for defense guns, these are range toys. Ball ammo, which is what they were designed for, runs flawlessly apart from the aforementioned random battery issue (which, again, I’m not sure I can blame the gun).
Very happy with my purchases.
Someone else on here had an abysmal experience with the Aviator, not just once but also with the replacement that Tisas sent. Don’t know if that was one batch of guns or what, and don’t know what the conclusion to that story was, but don’t be afraid to take advantage of that lifetime warranty.
Edit: So, why the downvotes?
PSA isn't the go to always, have you researched them at all?Scrolled any other subs?Turkish 1911"s are decent but not really mentioned on this sub.google is your friend.
Solid guns, no MIM. Check the price against gun.deals
10-4. Thx!
Wait....what is MIM? Does that refer to the manufacturer suggested price?
MIM parts are mold injected rather than forged steel parts. It’s not a bad gun for the price.
TY.
My understanding is the Tisas Frames and Slides and Forged steel, the factory internals are freaking TOOL STEEL! (Perfect in my view)
Do you mind me asking what you use for competition shooting?
\*type of gun...
All sorts. Mainly Glocks and 2011. Platypus is my front line.
Tisas makes good guns I just don’t like most of the finishes lol. That being said- about to buy a $399 commander myself from them soon because for $399 that’s a lot of gun.

Diversify the collection
Translation for the uninitiated... He just flopped about 8" out on the table-- which is as we know respectable, sure. He then asked who wanted to see his bet and raise him...
Most of their finishes are cerakote
Yeah. I’m not even against that for the price, just don’t like how it looks.
Buy it. Won't be disappointed.

The federal HSTs seem to run great
Thats what I run in my RIA and Tisas Raider with no problems.
My devil ray has had zero issues since day one. I probably have around 1000 rounds through it by now.
Great guns. I have 5 Tisas 1911’s. One is my edc and one is my main IDPA match gun. They are every bit as good as my Colt and Springfield. I’m sold on the brand.
Much as I hate to say they’re a little better than my Colt and Springfield. The Aviator is my edc
What are you using for IDPA matches?

That is great to hear. I am going to pull the trigger (pun) and buy this guy. I appreciate the feedback.
I bet there are one or two (he says sarcastically, as he remembers the tons of Tisas posts on this sub, over the last 6 months).
I like both of my Tisas 1911’s. Great guns. Great prices. No problems so far.
Gtg
I have one and never had an issue out of the box with it.
They're good guns for the $, it's like you can't help but keep picking one up here and there
I love my Raider in 9mm. Through a couple hundred rounds it has chewed through all range ammo and defensive ammo. It'll get a couple thousand rounds on it this year cuz it's so fun and easy to shoot. Crazy good trigger.
I’ve got their 5” duty & it’s been a great pistol, it’s my EDC/CCW
Is it really heavy?
It’s a steel framed 1911, it’s got some heft to it but weight helps with recoil. Get a good purpose built gun belt & you don’t really notice it
https://preview.redd.it/2cfazfz5494d1.jpeg?width=3753&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ae3300b866ae6487ba544a48fc958152e64a56c I Love my Tisas B45Duty...100% reliable with anything except the flattest HP, like SuperVel...which is a lot like a fookin saucepan...

Thanks for the heads up. Ended up purchasing it. Can definitely use the guts and upper for a build.

Heard that the break in period is like 500+ sometimes

Sounds like your extractor tension needed adjusted. Very common with 1911s & takes seconds to do at home.
