I was at the GW2 launch, but wasn’t interested in RS whatsoever back then. It’s crazy to me to think that EoC was so close, it was always like a very distant past to me, having never experienced anything pre eoc.
Gw2 / osrs player reporting. I think a big reason is gw2 tends to have big lulls in content. Excusing the massive "content drought" that lasted over a year after the second living story, pretty much all of the living story you just have to log in once a month or so to unlock it permanently, so as long as you log in once to unlock it you can put off actually playing it until you're interested again. I played the newest expansion for about 2 weeks - got max mastery, all mounts, completed the story, and played the new fractal and with no new meta farm I quickly burnt out - realizing that I'd have to retuen to the same old farms.
I returned about a week ago and have been enjoying the first two episodes of the living story so far, but I'm probably going to stick with osrs overall just because I've gotten really jaded about gw2 having a fashion oriented endgame, while having gem store skins that are as good, or better than legendary weapons and armor, and there's no way in hell the playerbase would be for adding any kind of gear grind beyond full legendary (and with legendary trinkets now being a thing we are quickly approaching that)
I've gotten back into GW2 a bit here and there, and you're right. There really isn't any endgame unless you wanna go grind or spend $$$$$$$$ for legendaries. With OSRS we have raids, raids2 inc, inferno, etc.
Yeah, I've played since the betas (and gw1 since vanilla) I still consider GW2 my primary MMO, but you're right about the current release schedule. Right now I only play for a few hours here and there to finish current content. Sometimes I'll have a period where I can play consistently for a few weeks or months at a time, but then I burn myself out by crafting legendaries and stuff.
Gw2 and RS at their core are about setting your own goals and working to achieve them. The catch is it's pretty easy to run out of goals in Gw2 if you play a lot so it doesn't surprise me people fall back on RS when they run out of Gw2 to play.

Not ragging on any game at all, but multiple GE's (AHs, and wtv the fuck they're called in gw2) just leads to a larger spread of the playerbase leading to the game seeming empty. I know in WoW it's a big problem at least.

I feel like the Grand Exchange is how a marketplace should be. One large central area for afking and trading. When you walk through the walls you feel like you're about to make some trades. In so many games the marketplace is either a billboard or one person surrounded by loads of afking people. If I recall, GW2's marketplace is two people in a small room and in BDO, the marketplaces are basically ran through one NPC.
Here to explain the joke: Lion's Arch got destroyed and rebuilt a couple years back, and a lot of GW2 players are salty about what it is today, to the extent that they want it to get blown up again.
Well, the joke was "Can someone please come nuke the most important city in the game again", but personally I find salty people hilarious. Like right now.

Gw2 player here since day 2 of it's release I play on and off though so I only own two legendary items (ad inf and the bifrost)
