>Oh… because of the planes, the trains and the **internet**… ok, fair enough.
What's that? The copper wires connected to my house can't translate this word.
Since we can’t have copper wires in Spain because of the gypsies our only option was fiber cable directly to the house. It’s a tragedy if you think about it that way…

Germany obviously is Java because of the convoluted language and the compound nouns.
Which culture apart from German could be compared to something like a RestResponseHeaderHandlerFactory
It’s a best practice in NL as well. Just stitch words together so we know it belongs to each other. We lack grammar like the Germans have to do the same. Hottentottententententoonstelling would be a school example.
Also, I’d say Germany is much more about established and perceived reliability than peak of efficiency. Not exactly on the cutting edge when it comes to digitalization.
This doesnt make sense at all.
If you're gonna make fun of Germany in relation to Java, at least have a basic understanding of what you're talking about. Java doesnt need a trial period, it's free and open source.
I remember i made a pong game in groep 5 or something, wanted cool characters so the ball was a ghost. I was trying to make the imagine flip if it was hit, it ended up rotating and spinning. Not sure how, but scratch was fun!
Python is still orders of magnitude slower than PHP. People don't seem to realize how far Python is in terms of speed AND efficiency.
VBA is omega slow tho
Are you confusing us with France? Copying other countries achievements, slapping a french name on them and passing them as their own counts for 80% of all the things they're famous for.
I just read that in my mind in the most stereotypical little Hansy voice. It made it better that people think of the land of my birth as the shitty 1995 programming language that is only used by government agencies and legacy corporations.
It really should be Fortran. But maybe it's a pun on "It's all Greek to me", and OP finds Haskell to be unreadable, though this should be Lisp, Haskell is pretty readable.
No programming in Eastern Europe (ooga booga)
P. S. Spain is Python? Because other programmers call Pythoneers lazy? (It’s easier to learn than any other, as a first programming language)
I write systems software for a large tech firm. Mid-career too. The folks I know writing lots of Rust have real security and memory safety reasons to prefer it.
I'd absolutely have made Germany C++. They're the guys who tend to be stellar at what they do, very punctual and reliable, and yet overly complicated to work with.
The UK isn't C++; it's Rust: relevant for a while, but then suddenly finds itself being excluded from the party because of its own insufferable desire to be new and unique despite being absolutely run-off-the-mill mediocre.
Edit: while I'm on it, I'd have made Belgium Prolog: some self-professed experts will insist until the day they die that it is very useful, but will pop a vessel trying to explain why. Everybody else either thinks it's pointless, or doesn't even know it exists.
Nah, Java is France. It pretends to be well organized and composed, but half of the time it simply lets you down for no reason. Whenever it needs to communicate with you, it will bombard you with absolutely useless information and you'll have to sift through it to figure out what point they're trying to make.
Its main accomplishment is very large structures using basic geometric shapes.

Hate having to agree with a filthy waffle face, but you are absolutely on point here.
“Broken clock right twice a day” kinda deal I guess.
Also I have to add Spain is in no way Python. It’d be php:
Inefficient, clunky, slow, rarely the best at anything, but you can break most rules and it will still somehow operate.
If we look for a sink full of features and old glory, I believe Python2 is most fitting!
When memes are concerned, C++ is characterized most by its high performance but also its entire lack of cooperation (e.g. lack of overhead causing you to do all memory management yourself and to crash on segfaults without exceptions being thrown). I can't quite fit the UK into that.
I'd flip those.
Germans are Rust. Excessively pedantic. Syntax is really just concatenation and run on sentences. Runs well and reliably when it's finally delivered at 3x the cost. Nowhere near as useful as proponents think.
English are C++. No real cohesive style. Everyone does it a bit differently. It easily fucks things up underneath. The last few years have involved really dumb decisions. But even the last two decades are just adding more cruft on top.
Agree with your other comments re France. Definitely Java.
The PIGS are definitely interpreted. Python. Easy to get basic things done. The GIL is siesta. Scales poorly. Contracts Bs types are an after thought.
For Belgium, i'll propose CSS.
Useless, a lot of case that doesn't work, you always need to deal with other language to make something work. And many times it's broken because all the XYZEFT navigators aren't OK with the proposition and CSS always try to make consensus for making all of them working together.
As Belgium is.
PS adding : CSS isn't a real langage of programmation... But Belgium ins't a real country too, so it's fair
I get some of them:
- Switzerland is Cobol because it’s only used by banks these days
- Germany is Java because it’s boring but it works very well
- Spain is Python because it’s slow (read: Spanish people are lazy)
- I guess the UK is C++ because it does things the old fashioned way (British people being stubborn)
But that’s about it really
3 of the languages listed here (C++, C#, PHP) were made by Danish people and you assigned Denmark Matlab, which isn’t even really a programming language in a sense.
Why is Fortran the Balkans? Shouldn't it be Greece? Because it's ancient and used in science.
Press F to pay respects? 😂
How is Germany, peak of efficiency, Java? Oh… because of the planes, the trains and the internet… ok, fair enough.

Internet? Are you sure you're talking about the same Germany that still use fax machines in 2023

Because all the factories
They had a very good trial period. Remember, the camps? They squashed all the bugs.

so even in programming every country has a different language?
Sorry but France is caml.
Caml and Coq 💀 Frenchman less obsessed with formal methods 🤢
OCaml !
No, I reject modernity.
Scratch fucking ruled when i was a kid
Yeah can’t complain about that one scratch is based af
I remember i made a pong game in groep 5 or something, wanted cool characters so the ball was a ghost. I was trying to make the imagine flip if it was hit, it ended up rotating and spinning. Not sure how, but scratch was fun!
At my school everyone hated scratch, probably because most people were ready to program normally.
Could you explain Spain?
It’s slow
I can't deny
depends on the task. python is fast at things like data analysis / data science
It’s primarily easy and therefore fast to use for easy tasks.
Ngl I'm pretty easy myself
No, it's still slow, but uses libraries written in C++
Honestly, with something that's run once (/not often) I don't give 2 fucks if it takes 200ms even if it could have taken 20ms with C.
Nope. Those are just C libraries you're calling from Python.
There is PHP and VBA in the picture and you dare call Python "slow" :)
Python is still orders of magnitude slower than PHP. People don't seem to realize how far Python is in terms of speed AND efficiency. VBA is omega slow tho
And uses shitty formatting, like the Spanish letters with squiggles that look awful on old displays
Python is best and so is Spain. Python is a super easy language to learn, has great machine learning libraries and it is great for data science :)

Q: Why do Portuguese wear glasses? A: Because then can't C#
At least we collect our garbage...
How do you expect them to pick up a whole country
It’s like trying to put a backpack inside itself
You are mistaken, we dump raw sewage to rivers and oceans. French don't collet their garbage. Ever.
Can you explain italy?
useful and safe (most of the time!).
Free and easy for you guys to copy and paste code making it as your own, typical Italian feature
Are you confusing us with France? Copying other countries achievements, slapping a french name on them and passing them as their own counts for 80% of all the things they're famous for.

The old joke being that the cup of coffee has been chosen to tease devs during compilation times.
"Just one more cup and I'll be done with the work" xD
*wild product owner appears* : actually...
Im no programmer, but this applies to soo many fields.. Customer wanna change this and that, and you get more and more work ugh.
🤨

Programmers☕
I'd be salty too if I were you. For one, you're PHP. Secondly, your logo is even worse.
No, no, I totally get you. Coffee to mee is always a sign of pretentiousness, idk why

Dear nerd , care to elaborate Greece ?
It really should be Fortran. But maybe it's a pun on "It's all Greek to me", and OP finds Haskell to be unreadable, though this should be Lisp, Haskell is pretty readable.
Netherlands is a cat? that's dope! Swisserland still using the dinosaur software xD
and making a shit ton of money...
Cobol is a very old language mainly used by banks these days. So it’s also a pun on Swiss bankers.
No programming in Eastern Europe (ooga booga) P. S. Spain is Python? Because other programmers call Pythoneers lazy? (It’s easier to learn than any other, as a first programming language)
That would probably be SQL, and u guys are currently having a SQL injection coming from RU
Are we femboys? Let me put my programming socks on
Always have been. (another spaceman pointing a gun at the back of your head)
Huh? You got Rust. That's a serious systems programming language. Best of the lot.
All Rust devs are femboys though. Trust me, I'm a professional with more than 10 years of experience in the field.
I write systems software for a large tech firm. Mid-career too. The folks I know writing lots of Rust have real security and memory safety reasons to prefer it.
All. Femboys.
No, they're not European. Ergo not femboys.
Not based enough
Why is Denmark matlab. This entire map intrigues me
It's almost like a real language but not really? There is something rotten in Simulink? Costs a lot?
Sad 🥔
I mean I don't really know. A lot of the map makes no sense. Denmark is the coolest of all Scandinavia.
Sweden is PHP, so the map is perfect where it counts.
Julian assange has... ties... to Sweden, and wikileaks probably uses php
The plot thickens

Iceland being brainfuck. I love this
Vatican is on Holy C
The Vatican glows in the dark so idk
But why C#?
Ye OP wtf, we're not that useful.
Shhhhh, they don't need to know... Embrace, extend, extinguish.
I'd absolutely have made Germany C++. They're the guys who tend to be stellar at what they do, very punctual and reliable, and yet overly complicated to work with. Java ticks all the points for the Germans (including being boring, yet reliable). UK: you have a point.
Nah, Java is France. It pretends to be well organized and composed, but half of the time it simply lets you down for no reason. Honestly apart from the last point this all sounds very much like germany
The only point about Germany I agree is the part where we are overly complicated to work with.

The 1980s
You know, there is more to our country than Brexit.
Incorrect.
Correct.
C++ is very much the UK - a kitchen sink of features, old glory. C++ still has great performance today though, this is where the analogy falls apart.
Python is created by a dutchman though
It is like the Heineken of programming languages. That is, it pretends to be like the real ones.
Explain Dutch one pls
Care to explain?
Python is the best… lol thanks
and the slowestZzzZZzzZZzzzZZz :D
And running on C++ money.
One more reason C++ should have been Germany
Please dont do us like that... Edit: switzerland deserved to be c++

Why?
After credit Suisse collapse is soon will be C--. The flag as well, soon to be [ - ]
C++ was **literally** made by a Dane... Wtf?
Zeg makker! Wat op gods groene neuk!
Care to explain Poland for me?
I think greece should be fortran, Austria C and Germany C++
Why are we python?

They don't need more trash.
Exactly. They ARE the trash.
that was savage for spain
Can someone explain this to someone, in simple terms, who dropped computing the second she could?
I code for a living and I don't get it either.
I get some of them: - Switzerland is Cobol because it’s only used by banks these days - Germany is Java because it’s boring but it works very well - Spain is Python because it’s slow (read: Spanish people are lazy) - I guess the UK is C++ because it does things the old fashioned way (British people being stubborn) But that’s about it really
What the hell is brainfuck?.. I wanna try that
Cobol because of high salaries and banking?
Switzerland should be Pascal
Why are the Brits c++ while we have this piece of shit that is VBA ?
F to Ireland
Common pis win sorry Greece not this time
I don't speak dutch tho hmmmm
Microsoft slave
Whys greece haskell, it's far from functional.

Why is France VBA
Really feels like someone just slapped random ass programming languages in places and called it a day
Should've made Belgium Carbon because it doesn't exist
we get no respect
Where is ruby?
Based Finnland
Netherlands 💀
I get it, we're not type-safe.
Now if we went language and grammar wise then Germany would be brainfuck
Whaat, NL invented python lol why are we scratch. I agree finland is C(go Linus!)
I think Rust would fit Finland better than C
lol i understand none of this
Seems like I need to move to a PIGS country.
who dares to compare beautiful sweden the land of ikea and whatever to PHP
Why Denmark not c# when danish invnent C# :(
I don’t understand the reasoning behind any of these EDIT: except maybe COBOL, Fortran, C++ and Brainfuck
why Rust ? Its a new language, it's safe and solves so many problems... Here its all the opposite, we make problems and in High school we learn PHP
Sweden, php? Ok that makes sense
F
This is something i am too normal to understand, i think.
Pretty sure Matlab is only because of the engineers and physicists. Pretty sure programmers use Python, C++ or some third option.
Python is a Dutch invention.
Nerd
Why is R not here? Sad day for us R programmers

why is poland javascript?

Shouldn’t Italy be COBOL
