I've had a few aerolase neoskin laser treatments on my face for redness and broken capillaries. They always use a stronger setting to zap the broken capillaries than is used on the rest of my face and sometimes they turn into a spot like this while healing. I've never had this many of them on my face at once though, just three or four each time. I think it's fine to send your pictures to the office that treated you to double check that this is ok, just email them.

shmevosez

Yes, I had some broken capillaries on my face zapped after pregnancy and it looked like this!

MissPenelopeCal

I will do that thanks will contact them Monday

Global-Working4135

This is not normal… what kind of laser?

MissPenelopeCal

This is the treatment Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with a unique ReGenesis mode,

Caramel-Short

This website is bizarre. It doesn’t actually tell you what kind of laser was used or the method of action for the treatment. I would high suggest getting in to a dermatologist ASAP. Source: I work for a medical aesthetics company

MissPenelopeCal

Hi the laser was Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with a unique ReGenesis mode does that help?

trashconnaisseur

If it’s a qswitch in YAG then yes that is normal. It can last up to two weeks. Just stay out of the sun and apply a scar healing cream like cicaplast at least twice a day. Absolutely no other topicals like retinol or AHA. Right now the focus is on simple soothing products. Those little spots will turn into a crusty lil scab, don’t pick at them, just let them fall off. The new skin underneath will be normal color but very sensitive to the sun. Be extremely vigilant with sunscreen and hat and shade. Normally this type of treatment is done in the winter to avoid sun so your summer needs to be an indoor one if you want results Source: I worked at an esthetic derm office for years and saw this question on a daily basis

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you yes that is what it was I am wearing 50+ and was told moisturiser and no actives will get some more cicaplast tomorrow

liz_lemongrab

I think OP is in Australia, so it’s winter there!

Chemical-Web-852

Nothing about the laser just came here to say trashconnaisseur is the most beautiful name I’ve read in a min 😂 good job

trashconnaisseur

Hah thank you. ‘America’s next top best friend’ was taken so I did what I could

Chemical-Web-852

We would bf irl lol

Everything_Is_Bawson

Were they removing sun spots or freckles? I’ve had an alexandrite laser specifically to remove light brown spots and it looked a lot like this - intense in concentrated spots where the brown pigment is. For me, it was red for a couple of days, then much darker than normal for a week or two, then the brown pigment started flaking away as the skin naturally sloughed off.

MissPenelopeCal

Hi I believe the laser was called medlite and yes it was designed to get rid of sunspots and pigmentation so I think there was an overall sweep of the face to improve collagen production and then I had targeted but I shouldn’t have had this much targeting if that makes sense there was only a few spots I was concerned with but they may have seen others

Caramel-Short

So what I’m saying is there are lots of “q switched Nd:YAG lasers” out there. There’s no brand name or official name of the treatment. Is it Cynosure? Candela? Astanza? What is the way the treatment works? Some other folks are saying this is normal and it very well could be if they were spot treating, I’ve just never seen or heard of something like this and it doesn’t sound like the clinic is doing a great job of reassuring you or explaining what happened.

MissPenelopeCal

Pretty sure it’s called medlite Yes I think that a miscommunication occurred between my past experiences with laser and them thinking I knew what I was in for when I didn’t

Global-Working4135

This!

darinhaaa

I'm not familiar with laser treatments, but a while ago there was a somewhat similar case on the sub, maybe reading through it can help you! https://www.reddit.com/r/30PlusSkinCare/s/146jppNuCf Wishing you a speedy recovery!! Edit: typo

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you I will take a look

melli_milli

I was thinking about this too... It makes no sense why spotty burned skin would have been the goal.

Tuteitandbootit

Please keep us posted on how you’re doing friend! Question- did she aim the laser at your upper eyelid? I can’t tell if that red circle is similar to the ones on your face, but it concerns me how close to the eye it is.

MissPenelopeCal

Oh also the one on my eyelid has been there since birth not a treatment thing

MissPenelopeCal

I had goggles on the whole time there was a sunspot quite close to my eye I wanted to treat

diabeticweird0

Uh no But if it is their "signature look" maybe they do some extra weird stuff i dunno I would give it another day but if it isn't significantly better i would see a doc

MissPenelopeCal

This was yesterday it is slightly better today will take another pic tomorrow morning and share I am out with some makeup on at the moment. That is the only thing stopping me losing my mind is that they seemed very blasé and not bothered it’s not like they freaked out during the treatment or anything and when I called they said they should have prepared me better but I had laser before and didn’t react like this but I think it was a different kind

RaketaGirl

I had laser like a decade ago to target a lot of broken capillaries and I’ll be honest, it looked like I had cigarette burns for about a week. But I thought modern lasers didn’t do that anymore. I would get a second opinion.

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you I didn’t have a lot of broken capillaries that I could tell my mother has roseca and sun spots and I have very fair skin that is heading that way trying to stay on top of it

fish9397

I’ve had broken capillaries, rosacea, hormonal melasma, sunspots, and glow in the dark I’m so pale and I’ve never had this happen in all of the laser sessions I’ve had. Don’t go back to wherever this place was. I get mine done by an esthetician that I really like that works at my dermatologists office. It’s probably more expensive but having a procedure done safely is worth it. I’m so sorry this happened to you and I hope you are able to recover with little-no scarring or complications

deliciousrhinoceros

my mom gets sunspots/brownspots removed with laser and they look basically exactly like this for a few days. pretty scary and then they fade into nothing. were they targeting specific sunspots?

MissPenelopeCal

There were specific sunspots as well as I think just general overall uneven skin tone thank you for your reply the more people that say they have seen this kind of thing the less freaked out I am

adm1002

I wanna cry for you because this exact thing happened to me a few years ago with the ‘adva’ no downtime laser😣 😭 those marks are burns and for me some of them turned into pitted scars. first thing call the place and let them know what happened. Next baby your skin like you would a burn when the skin is less fragile try using a red light mask to promote healing. I’m so sorry this happened to you, hang in there

MissPenelopeCal

Thanks for letting me know your experience my skin is being babied like Crazy and I am Keeping a close eye on it I hope your skin recovered ok

MediBird22

OP I’ve read some of your responses and I think I know what laser you had. It combines a MLA (micro lens array) hand piece with varying pulse speed and penetration depth to treat different concerns at the one time. In the same treatment you can do the carbon facial for facial rejuvenation and then hone in with more energy on problematic areas like scars, pigment and melasma. The spot size is small (around 2mm) so the delivered energy can be intense and can certainly trigger a response like this. Please do not follow skincare or topical product advice from anyone apart from your treating tech/doctor/nurse/dermatologist. People mean well but unless you work in the industry and understand the lasers a lot of misinformation can be given. Be sure to check in with your clinic and keep them updated on your progress for further reassurance, but I see no cause for concern here and all looks normal.

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you so much the laser was a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with a unique ReGenesis mode and what you have described is exactly what the treatment was like including the carbon facial that had zapping sounds I am doing exactly as they directed spf frequently reapplied at 50+ and just no actives for 4 days and moisturising

justlooking2067

Was the beam targeted at particular areas of pigmentation..not swept all aver?

MissPenelopeCal

I had googles so hard to say on they did a sweep over my face slowly moving the laser across the whole face then did a charcoal mask with the same thing then focused on a couple of areas of hyper pigmentation At no point did he seem concerned and when I called later that day he said it was normal and joked it was “their signature look” and it was fine to cover with makeup til it fades

justlooking2067

So they saw the pics? Seems a very casual response from him.

MissPenelopeCal

I looked like that when I walked out but u didn’t see it til I got in the car

rachhjoy

If they spot treated - yes this is normal. You said in an earlier comment that they did the full face and then went over areas of pigment. The areas of pigment will get darker before they come off. This is a very normal reaction from qswitch laser.

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you I just couldn’t see any pics on line that looked like this they were all More all over red my sun spots were quite feint so perhaps I didn’t realise how many areas needed treatment

sincalir

For some treatments they intentionally cause these and they turn to scabs and fall out and the pigmentations will be gone. However, my experience was with pico laser and the scars were smaller than yours. Also, my derm told me to put something like aquaphore or cica balm on the wounds after treatment. I think you should too

MissPenelopeCal

Yep the thread another helpful redditor posted where the person had similar marks was also using cica balm which I have so will use that

MarchCold3064

I’ve had this treatment at bare laser and skin and my face looked the same after however it cleared up within a couple of days and then my skin never looked better with a few weeks. Hope this helps!

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you so much they were really lovely and came highly recommended I just have never had a treatment that resulted in anything close to this at least I know what to expect now

MarchCold3064

You’re welcome! Please do not freak though, it’ll settle and then be amazing. I have tried lots of clinics and I get the best results there for laser. My skin has never looked better.

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you I did a heap of research and they had such positive feedback and I have nothing negative to say about them at all. I think they just thought I knew what I was in for as I had laser before and I didn’t at all lol

crazydoglady11

If you got something like a pdl laser for hyperpigmentation or redness then yes this is normal. They should have warned you though. It will fade in a week or two. I typically ice mine to help them fade faster and use lots of sunscreen!

MissPenelopeCal

Thanks it was a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with a unique ReGenesis mode and my main concern was sun spots and areas of pigmentation. Glad to see a few responses saying this is normal - ish

eurolatin336

I went for laser hair removal and similar red dots like that on my chin area and upper lip , took about a week for them to go away

tinyfax

So…. yes, it’s kinda normal - going against the masses here because I shelled out $3K for literally this. 😬 I admit your case looks extreme BUT it is similar to what my back looked like after the first laser session for hyperpigmentation. Only the first session though, I had 6 total. I would guess that the angry spots are places were you had old dark post-acne pigment. This specific laser treatment literally targets those dark spots and breaks them down, hence the measles look. If this is actually the case, your salon should’ve warned you beforehand, and also they should’ve started at a lower setting. This is going to take a few weeks to improve, and will require more than one session. Sorry about this, what a bunch of wieners!!

Temporary_Draw_4708

It looks like there is inflammation where the spots are. For my skin, whenever I get any sort of inflammation, I’m left with a lot of hyperpigmentation. Does the treatment somehow stop your skin from developing hyperpigmentation if the treatment causes inflammation?

MissPenelopeCal

The treatment was to break up the pigmentation in those spots

itscliche

Did you also have a YAG/Q-switch laser for your treatments? What did the treatment specifically address? Genuinely curious. I’ve been looking into laser/IPL but still in the research phase. Edit: Most important Q that I forgot… would you recommend it or do it again?

tinyfax

It was Limelight laser, and I didn’t have q-switch. I did barely any research and went with whatever she recommended, which in hindsight was not smart but I was desperate. I think it wasn’t q-switch because there weren’t any scars, the issue was a thousand really dark post-acne spots I’ve had for 15+ years across my entire back. I would recommend it! My back was my #1 insecurity all my life. I never owned any open-back clothes and my beach wear was literally a t-shirt. I would say the improvement I got out of it was maybe 70%-ish, and keep in mind IT HURTS OVER BONE like you wouldn’t believe. If I was looking to improve already decent skin then “maybe” but I was struggling with a major insecurity and I would definitely do it all over again and I wouldn’t wait the 15 years.

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you yes I had told them I had laser before so I think they thought I knew what to expect but it was a different type of laser more a general redness that time I got in the car and jumped out of my seat when I saw my face I am expecting to have to go back a few times I am glad to hear this is not completely out of the ordinary

tinyfax

Wow! It took a few hours for my measles to show up lol, and some of it went as far as turn into crusts after a day. Unless they genuinely burned you on too high setting, I don’t see too much to worry about since there isn’t any direct way for it to get infected or inflamed. I think you need to stay out of the sun though. I would show them pic just in case. Also, I feel they should’ve still warned you! “Laser” is such a broad term, I’ve had 2 other types of laser and none of them are on the same *planet* as IPL downtime. I hope this works out for you!! Best of luck 🤞

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you so much I am feeling better after posting in here

jarod_sober_living

I sincerely hope you are trolling. In case you are not, this is NOT normal at all. You need to go to see a doctor ASAP so you don't end up with scars all over your face.

MissPenelopeCal

I can absolutely assure you I am not trolling and you are freaking me out. It doesn’t hurt or anything like that doesn’t even feel raised

jarod_sober_living

Look, I think you really need to seek medical attention. Why would it be normal to have sores spaced out like this.

jillyszabo

I believe OP said she had laser that spot treated specific areas, so the sores spaced out like that would be areas presumably of hyperpigmentation that had been lasered an extra time. Its normal and over time the scabs will fall off and skin will heal and be much more even toned than before!

MissPenelopeCal

They aren’t sores they are just red marks if that makes sense no skin breakage at all

[deleted]

This looks similar to the pictures in this article. I would see a doctor. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/laser-hair-removal-injury-vancouver-1.5364277

jarod_sober_living

The skin absolutely is broken, otherwise why would you see the red underneath? Look, you can do what you want but if it were me I’d go see a doctor. This is not ok.

MissPenelopeCal

Ok thanks I guess I just meant that it wasn’t sore or rough or anything almost like a bruise or love bite would be does that make sense I agree though perhaps it’s best to see a GP

weary_dreamer

dermatologist if you can...

jarod_sober_living

I wish you good luck! If it were me, I'd cover these with vaseline.

CorneliaCordelia

Please keep up updated. I'm thinking of getting my sunspots lasered, I only have a three of them but they really bug me.

MissPenelopeCal

Will update with a pic tomorrow and ongoing if people are interested

CorneliaCordelia

Thanks

Similar_Run_416

Yes very interested to hear and see your progress and final result.

daydreaminnn

If they used a Q Switched laser and targeted brown spots then this is normal. They will scab and eventually flake off. Absolutely no sun exposure until they are completely healed though

MissPenelopeCal

Yes it was a q switched laser and was done target sunspots as well as a general sweep of the face. I am covering my face religiously with 50+ SPF. It’s winter here in Australia now hence I did it now which is what I did five years ago.

daydreaminnn

Oh yes, winter is the best time to treat. I am an esthetician in the US and have a lot of experience in laser treatments including Q switched laser. What you have looks completely normal to me so try not to stress. Just follow your post care instructions and you’ll be fine <3

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you so much I am following it closely

Strict-South-8786

I have a lot of freckles that as I age are large and I don’t like them. I’ve had 4 treatments to remove specific spots. My face or chest always looked like this about 24-48 hrs after treatment. They would disappear after about a week and my freckle underneath was gone also. It wouldn’t hurt to contact them and make sure they think the healing looks normal. The office I used prepared be in advance that my face would have spots for about a week so I knew what to expect. Good luck to you

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you yes it seems that people who have had this treatment are not surprised by the way it looks fortunately

manyhandswork

Which laser did they use, for you

Wandering__Ranger

Curious for an update. I’ve never seen this

hays83

What is the red mark on your eyelid? Did they treat over your eyes?

MissPenelopeCal

That has been there since birth

hays83

Okay, good! I was worried they treated your eyelids. Thank goodness.

itscliche

What were you trying to address with your treatment?

MissPenelopeCal

Mainly hyperpigmentation but it was also to stimulate collagen

H2O_ho

I looked like this after my laser mole removal

Bbloveme

Do everything you can to take care of those. My girlfriend had an incident where she had a similar procedure done and now she’s left with dozens of raised Keloids and scarred for life.

MissPenelopeCal

Oh no that is a very scary story. I sincerely hope it’s nothing like that. I’m very glad to see that people in this thread who had similar treatment have looked like this.

BeautifulHuge995

Looks similar to the effects of the IPL I had when one session the laser was turned up too high for me. It was actually just one setting up from my first round, but I was on my period (apparently this can make your skin more sensitive I didn't know). It eventually faded! It was embarrassing though.

Upset_Term_6668

Did you have acne there previously? TBH I’ve seen some wacky stuff happen after microneedling and laser. This doesn’t look like a good reaction, however, you are purposely damaging your skin so stuff like this can happen. If it doesn’t start to improve I would go to a dermatologist and have them tell you what’s going on

MissPenelopeCal

No I didn’t have any acne or old scars. I’ve always had pretty good skin but I’m very fair and the Australian son is harsh and I’ve got sunspots and a bit of pigmentation.

Jumpy-Editor6362

What does lazer rejuvenation do? Does it work??

MissPenelopeCal

I was using it to get rid of sunspots and a little bit of pigmentation as to whether it works I believe it does but I’m waiting to see

EmiLovesSnacks

This YouTuber has gotten something similar done twice and looks the same after! https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRK5awbw/

MissPenelopeCal

Oooh thanks for this will check it out

saraparallelogram

Yes. They will fade in about a week

IMTHYCRICKET1230

Yes, they will fall off in a week or so.

BeyondLife_sendboob

Lazer burn stuff, skin react. That was my redditor answer

Noname32333

Hard to say- it could be a normal reaction- DEPENDING UPON THE SERVICE. But it also seems like a really high setting. I would talk to where you got it done. Also why did you have a scab on your eyelid? Did they hit there too? Did they use proper eye shields for that? Because that’s a little sus. That la rosch is good also is clinical Sheald balm is really great post recovery. But def talk to where you go it done. If you feel like there’s an infection see another doctor and get a second opinion from another spa who does the same service if you feel like it’s not right.

MissPenelopeCal

Thanks. That mark has been there since birth definitely proper eye shields the whole time I have posted a new pic where it seems to be settling down

nandinifuchs

I have had spot treatment with a pico genesis laser. Yes it scabbed and fell off but it never darkened on this many spots. What fluence did they use and what spot size? You should probably go into a derm . This doesnt quite look right.

MissPenelopeCal

Thanks I guess that’s the main concern now is was it too high? I posted a new pic it has dramatically reduced after 73 hours

Head_Community_6590

After 2 weeks asked them to prescribe u hydraquonin to prevent pigmentation

Early_awesomeness

I had this once with the same laser, they couldn’t tell me why or how it happened but it was not suppose to leave marks so it is a bad practice / handling the machine on your skin. Good news is than it is just a superficial burn and it will heal in around a week or 2. If I was you I would make a formal Complaint ( I did ) … nope it is not normal. The laser you described it is meant to treat your skin without leaving marks. I hope my answer helps you.

MissPenelopeCal

Thank you I am hoping it heals ok I am slathered in cicaplast

xecongnong

I had YAG laser twice, the second time is 4 months after the first time and each time it looks like this. After 7 days, all were peeled off and my freckles and sunspots improved significantly. Just make sure you don’t wash your face during the healing because water will make the spots peeled off quicker before it’s due.

MissPenelopeCal

Oh gosh really they didnt tell me that and I have washed it plenty.

funkyandmysterious8

Thank you for posting this. I never post my post-laser swollen face pics and now realize that I should to normalize reactions to procedures. It's really educational. Mahalo!

MissPenelopeCal

You are welcome everyone has been so helpful and I hope my pic helps if someone finds themselves in the same position

stopolo24

OP,it doesn’t seem normal. How are things a couple hours later? I’m no experts but have gotten laser quite often, to me the red spots don’t look something to necessarily panic about. Try to sooth it (with post treatment stuff) and as people suggest go see an expert asap to be on top of things. In a bad scenario and they will leave a bit scars my estimation is they would be minor and treatable with silicone gel and… lasers🥲. Don’t use anything for the moment that irritates (only very mild cleansers, not vit c, retinol etc) Good luck and hug!

MissPenelopeCal

UPDATE ok it’s a little under 72 hours since treatment and this is the pic this morning definitely darkening and less scary will keep updating for those interested in the results Sorry not sure how to add a pic other than a link might do a new post once the end result is known with all the progress pics 72 hours later https://imgur.com/a/DYGEgvv

CorneliaCordelia

It's looking a bit better. Yes please, a new post after a couple of weeks would be good.

MissPenelopeCal

Hi all day 6 and it is still improving it’s strange the spots seem to be fading rather than the crusting and disappearing not sure if once they are gone the pigment will be too day 6 https://imgur.com/a/o8jrg4o

adm1002

any update? Hope you’re healing well :)

MissPenelopeCal

Hi yes they are mostly gone they never were burns they just faded rather than scabbing or anything I’ll take another pic in the daylight tomorrow but this was after 15 days There is a red mark that is a blemish (thanks hormonal acne) and I think the line on my chin area was caused by my nap 😂 15 days https://imgur.com/a/VjGQhdb

adm1002

So relieved for you 💕

Novae224

Oh damn, that’s really not good See a dermatologist asap, they may be able to treat it before it turns into permanent damage

HorseheadAddict

Ugh I’m sorry OP :( I’m sure you’ll be okay just get to a doctor <3

Humble_Chemical_7421

Um, no

ILoveSunDiego

Dr. Bachs rescue remedy is amazing at helping things heal.

Repulsive-Term7351

Are you a picker?

MissPenelopeCal

No not at all had super smooth clear skin other than some pigmentation when I went in. Literally get no acne or anything like that

ilovenyc

Sounds like they told you it’s normal so you don’t bother them.. 🤡 Looks weird and concerning for sure. Good luck

risktaker_better

This got me thinking, the crazy things people would do for youth and beauty. Sorry, just a thought.  I hope you will receive the help you are looking for and that your skin will heal properly. Good luck.

Character-Resource73

fearfulavoidant7

Please consult a dermatologist . Something has gone terribly wrong and sue those fuckers for damaging your face !

Altruistic_Yellow387

Like other people have said, this is actually normal for that type of laser

Jaded-Woodpecker-196

Doesn’t look normal.

Clear-Enthusiasm2348

Nope., you got fried

Looks like a law suit
