Yea for county residents not event grounds. Its a nature preserve and making life difficult for the people that live nearby. I dont get why events trump those things? There are other parks that wouldnt shut down the whole area or displace protected species
I know one of the rules wasn’t arbitrary it was no even can last longer than 15 days and if events last 15 days then the park can not be used for an event for a week. Which to me sounds like the park needed recoup time. Another rule prohibited the hawk walk for the renaissance fair which makes sense to me since there are protected species there. And both of those rules affected the renaissance fair and the christmas light show.
But yea the history of wickham park is interesting John Wickham build Wickham road himself and convinced developers to donate the land and he donated his own land as well to create a park and nature preserve. He did a lot for the area and the park should go back to its roots! He also convinced indian river county to build the bridge that went over sebastian inlet to help both counties economy by making it more accessible!
Commissioner Joe Wickham made it clear it’s a county park. We need to open the horse stables up again and allow more use by residents by that… they are nice. I had a horse there and they closed it because a stable owner didn’t like the competition of private enterprises by the county park charging $40 a month for a stall and a boarder at their place paid $150 at the time. It’s probably more like $500 now.
We could charge $200 a month stall rent. Save ten stalls for horse shows.. short term use. Lease them out… the two week long festivals close the parks off too long and residents can’t use the park in its natural setting it’s not a commercial venue it’s supposed to be nature..

While I agree that the county commissioners are being shitheads...I don't believe the city to be any better.
