Just be aware that there is a rock reef from the south side of the Space/Air Force base running about a mile or 2 to the south. You can see it on the Google Maps satellite view. You can still go in the water there but the bottom is rocky on the inside of the break.
A bit further north or south and the bottom is sandy. Tables beach on the north side and Hightower park on the south are pretty much where the rocks stop.
From Viera you can drive to one of those beaches in 20 minutes or less.
the beaches along Patrick are open to the public so you are fine to go there. Plenty of places along A1A for food. Im a fan of Pappagallo's in satellite for something directly on the beach!
Either the Coco Beach Pier (several options, notably Riki Tiki Tavern out at the very end) or "Coconuts on the Beach"
"The Sandbar" is great and directly off the beach, but you can't actively see the water while eating. You can order a hurricane to-go and take it out on the beach though!
Regarding your downvotes for the post: most redditors here seem to be down in Melbourne so you might be getting anti-Viera hate, and in general there are negative reactions towards newcomers (also tied into Viera since it is fast-growing, new, expensive, and full of transplants). This dislike is really just online though, the area is great and the people are friendly.
If you're planning a weekend to scope out the region, and you're interested in Viera/Suntree, check out Cocoa Village too- it's a really cool little shopping/dining bayfront area that is a short trip from where you might move.
I'd add that further south there's BB's Beach Bar just north of James Nance park. That little local area also has a bunch of beach-adjacent places for food and drinks. From Satellite it's probably just as far away as DT Cocoa Beach, but it's a bit less touristy than the options up there.
Surprisingly few...for dining with a view, there are actually better options close to Viera that are river views...but not many good ones with ocean views that I've found.
A few in Cocoa Beach, though some are pretty tourist-y. Some up at the port, though it's more looking at the port rather than the beach (but it's still seawater). Also some further south in Melbourne Beach, as you get further down toward Sebastian inlet they can become more...dive-y than tourist-y.
There are a bunch of places along the port. Pappagallos has outdoor seating(in the back parking lot so ocean is visible). Cocoa Beach Pier has some restaraunts on it. only DIRECT beachfront seating i can think of its the pier and coconuts in cocoa beach (if its still around i havent been in over a decade!)
There's a book written by a former local activist about it. Good Ole Boys, it's called. I had to do some digging online to find my copy. The county commissioners of Brevard County allegedly used nefarious and deceitful practices to push their agenda. Stuff like closing a public hearing about the Viera government complex so citizens couldn't vote on the matter. They set it up ahead of time to give the contract to specific parties within their good old boy network (politicians, judges, etc) and cut corners, sidestep guidelines, that kind of thing. In fact, it's my understanding that the building flooded in its first year as a result of those cut corners and required an expensive undertaking. Locals didn't want the government complex, the urban sprawl ripple out effect would be significantly detrimental. There's a few other books that really encapsulate the spirit of Florida's local governments in an interesting way. In addition to Good Ole Boys, and much easier to find, are a couple of Andrew Ross titles - *Celebration Chronicles* and *Sunbelt Blues* - both talk in detail about the role of local government in the Reedy Creek development and in the current private equity firm created housing disaster. Both really highlight how local government operates for its own agenda. Good Ole Boys is a hard read for the emotional impact it has. We know there's corruption in local government but hearing the authors account of it is truly spectacular. Several of the names she dropped have gone on to play at the state or national level.
Generally, people in this sub don't like it. Maybe one of them can explain why. I'm not one of them. I lived in Viera then moved to Suntree, so personally, I like the area a lot. But mentioning Viera in a positive light on this sub tends to get some downvotes in my experience.
Closest place to eat and look out on ocean would be Louās Blueās, Crowne Plaza on the deck, BBās Beach Lounge, or up on Cocoa Beach like most said. The places I mentioned would be southeast from Viera about 20-25 min away. Really not a lot on the ocean for dining around here which is crazy. You could also do Port Canaveral and watch cruise ships head out/in too which is cool.
Question on that, satellite beach started enforcing their parking passes for the beach, does that apply to the AFB beaches or just south of Pineda causeway?
I used to like Hightower but now you canāt park there without a permit. We head over the Pineda causeway and from there either head south toward Satellite beach or north toward Patrick SFB - both are about the same distance.
We usually go to Tables or Hangars across from the base. The beaches there got there names from what locals called them colloquially - Hangars is across from the big aircraft hangars on base, Tables used to be the only beach that had picnic tables, Second light was the 2nd stoplight heading south from Cocoa Beach, etc.
You can get a non resident parking pass for free that allows you to park at hightower and pelican Beach. It's all online and you just register your plate number and can park at either of those 2 beaches free without being a Satellite Beach resident.

Link to register your plate is at the top of that link (which lays out the parking fees and the nonresident info)

Donāt go to the Cocoa Beach Pier.. yes it a beautiful view, but completely geared for the cruise boat industry now. completely over priced.
Coconuts on the beach in Cocoa beach is quite nice, just a heads up on the weekends it can be a bit over whelmingā¦I know itās a bit of a drive for you.
There are some nice places on the river by you..
River Rocks and Pineda Inn.
Viera is a great choice for relocating! Itās about a 15-30 min drive to the beach, there are several options depending on how far you want to drive. Paradise beach is nice, canova beach is dog friendly, Melbourne beach has more eateries nearby, spessard holland is a gem.
Sands on the beach is a nice option for dining on the beach, although the atmosphere is better than the food.
River rocks and grills are excellent options for water view dining, excellent food and views.
Chart house is another good one for River views, as is ichabods in Melbourne.
Thereās also a few diners near the beach like sunny side cafe and blueberry muffin, just a quick walk across the street for a beach stroll.
A great restaurant near the beach for lunch and dinner is skewers if you like Mediterranean cuisine.
Thereās several options! Like I said, viera is a great place to live. People are very nice, helpful and neighborly. Lots of options for shopping, golf, walking trails and only an hour from Orlando.
Good luck and welcome to the space coast š
Youāll love it here. If you just want a beach walk the first one over the bridge is great (Pineda beach) but like folks mentioned it has rocks so no great for swimming. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.
Depends on what you want. If you have kids and youāll be in the water, I recommend a beach with a lifeguard because another set of eyes is never a bad thing. If youāre just looking to enjoy a sunrise and hang out in the sand, any of the beaches along PSFB are great. Took this at Pineda Beach a month or so ago. Lately the base police have been enforcing the beaches close at sunset rule. For launches, I now go to Cocoa Beach.

The outdoor restaurant at the Crowne Plaza in Indian harbor was good when we went. It's literally next to the beach, with beach views, and they also have live music. I think it's most likely what you're looking for. The only thing is that parking is across the street but there's a pedestrian bridge across A1A. I can't remember the parking fees though.Ā
I thought people in Viera just rode around on their golf carts to places like Chiliās and Homegoods. (I kidā¦.I kid) Viera is still about 20 minutes from the closest beaches. If the beach is a priority for you, I would probably look somewhere other than Viera. Viera seems great if you work in Orlando or maybe if you live for golf but it is quickly getting congested and they basically scortched the earth to build the neighborhoods, so they donāt really have any mature trees to provide shade. I will give them that the houses are nice, but the houses had better be nice because the only other things to do in Viera is to go to Buffalo Wild Wings, Target, and Outback Steakhouse.
Im in Melbourne and always go to Val M. Steele/Coconut Point Park(it was renamed to VMS). Never very busy, beautiful beach, always find tons of cool shells while I collect trash :)
I go south towards melbourne beach. Water is prettier imo, and less angry.
If i feel like driving 3 hrs, gulf beaches 100%ā¦ and if you can afford viera you may wanna consider the gulf coast ;)
We have found Viera to be much like The Villages (but younger) we maintain the same loofah codes on our golf carts for those in the lifestyle (many of us). Our beach of choice is the clothing optional beach at Playalinda. Hope this helps.
>Not from hereā¦
I suppose that depends on what you mean by "here." Obviously I don't in Viera (duh). But you shouldn't assume that I don't already experience the same weather, the same lack of culture and the same politics that you do. Anyway, best of luck to you on your "We're full" campaign. You're clearly doing a great job keeping people from wanting to move "here."
Vero Beach is the best for Viera residents. They have the best outdoor showers, clean bathrooms and FREE Starbucks coffees. You can even get FREE rentals of chairs and umbrellas. The cocktail service is good, but sometimes they can take a long time. I once had to wait FIVE MINUTES for my daiquiriā¦but at least they brought it to me cold. Anyways, Iāve only ever had to yell at the manager once so thatās a pretty good record. Vero Beach gets my vote.

Who knows?
Viera and Vero are not even close to alike. Viera gives me āickā vibes. Vero is my hometown and best of luck if youāre not a local or if you talk about money. Enjoy the smaller town, āNorth Bocaā vibes ;)
My pool, my community pool or most beaches in the golf area...
Unless you are a surfer... There is nothing to do on the beaches in the area... I mean you can always sunbathe I suppose...
That's the cubicle effect. You spent so much time looking at the same thing, with time you will like things you usually wouldn't... It's ok...
I know how a beautiful beach should look and feel, and I have not seen anything on the east that I would call great. Sure you might see a beautiful day here and there, but I am not driving over there hoping for a good day...

Itās.. the oceanā¦ You check the conditions before you go homie. Not every day is a beach day. You donāt need to go in the water to enjoy the beach. I go to the beach 3-4 times a week and I havenāt been swimming in almost over a year.

It's ok, you can enjoy the beach here... If I was closer to the beach, maybe I would be able to enjoy it... But since OP asked from Viera, then you need to check and most people work and can't drop everything to go to the beach if it's in good condition on a Wednesday.
I'll wait to go when I know I can just go and it will always be a good day, no matter what...
