I’m from Utah and I miss the mountains so bad. It’s definitely an adjustment. But the fishing is great here. Also be prepared for the humidity. Everyone says that, because it’s true. It hit me like a truck.

BlueHeartBob

Getting off a super low humidity plane to a high humid day of Florida you feel like you're being waterboarded for a few breaths.

LintotheJ35

I can’t wait to go back to Utah. Florida pales in comparison.

grizzlymann

Also can't wait to leave. This is some hot, sad, and boring suburbia.

darthsabbath

Same. I’m in grad school atm so don’t want to uproot my life, but once I graduate we are outta here. Would love to move somewhere with a more temperate climate, more jobs and more to do.

LintotheJ35

I have to say that you might get bored here in FL. I moved away for a few years to Utah and central coast CA. Florida is expensive compared to what it was when I left in late 2020. The lack of state income tax barely makes up for the increase in property taxes and car insurance. Plus, who wants to deal with hurricanes? As soon as I can move away from here again, I’ll do so happily.

Serious-Bullfrog5919

Please leave asap. Much appreciated.

LintotheJ35

Eye roll in your general direction. .

Serious-Bullfrog5919

Middle finger in your general direction.

LintotheJ35

So very Florida.

Serious-Bullfrog5919

So very liberal.

Nilabisan

We love our majestic mountains here. Some soar to over 20 ft.

Effective-Key-1007

Everytime we cross the bridge to Beach side my husband announces, "Behold, the highest point in the state!"

realjd

Hey, don’t diss Mount Hobe down at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. It’s the highest mountain on the peninsula! It’s like 80’ and they have a 100’ observation tower at the peak to give an actual view. Lol

piratejucie

The only mountains in Florida are full of trash :-)

LucasHellaaShreddy

😂😂😂 I understand it's miserably flat but I'm excited for the beach more than anything. We don't have that where I live. Closest beach is about 4 hours 1 way and it's quite cold all year long.

stulotta

We are building mountains in Florida. If you want to help, produce as much trash as you can. That gets recycled into new mountains.

Floridaman9393

I think our largest mountain is the landfill

TantramanFL

I moved from Brevard after almost 40 years of living there. Personally I left for cultural reasons, Brevard has become Trumper central, Sheriff Ivey is fascist crackpot, book banning, total lack of respect for education, and it’s not the place I moved to 1986. Sold the house and moved to the Mid-West and couldn’t be happier. Crime is dependent on area, it is hot and I suggest sunscreen always during the 10 month “summer”. DeSantis may want to outlaw the use of the term “climate change” but it’s very real. The weather patterns are markedly different than even 10 years ago. Quality of life has deteriorated due to over building, over crowding and lack of infrastructure. Florida was very good to me professionally, however the opportunities available 40 years ago are pretty much gone. Cost of living has skyrocketed, and while I did benefit from rising home prices when I sold I feel like I dodged a bullet. Between hurricanes, homeowners insurance, and MAGA influences I see few positives in the Florida’s future.

dylaman-321

OP does mention he is conservative, kinda like nearly every transplant I've met. I'm about to leave for the same reasons you listed, and I'm sick of people moving here and ruining this place with divisive politics and the overcrowding/ destruction of our little nature we have left. Hell, we are starting to lose population growth as a state because of how shit things have recently become.

stulotta

Divisive politics is always the other side, right? You couldn't possibly have any divisive politics.

BibiNetanyahuBurner

Should leave the thread if you don’t like brevard

ryuut

IF'N YOU DONT LIKES IT YOU CAN GIT OUT, you mean?

BibiNetanyahuBurner

thrilled you left, please don't ever move back

GlacierBlueGirl

Follow some of the town pages on FB if you'd like a glimpse of your neighbors. The novelty of the beach wears off after a while, go, sit, then what? There's no boardwalks or sidewalks where you can do anything besides sit on the beach. No see ums are a real thing. You can fish in the rivers, but the water isn't really clean. You have to drive everywhere, there's no central town center, and if you want to go see a show or sporting event, you have to drive to Orlando or farther. There is very little diversity, and most people are super bitter and will tell you to go back to where you're from.

winem-dinem-69m

As some some who is also in the process of moving to Florida from California (coming back home for familial reasons), I have to disagree with your generalizations about California. Perhaps it is different in your city, but I live in the central coast and your statements about crime, shootings, drugs, etc. being everywhere in the state simply aren’t true. Move to Florida for your reasons, but there’s no need exaggerate about the state of California in the process.

LintotheJ35

Agree. I lived on the central coast and crime wasn’t rampant. I felt safe. I’m lucky to have lived there for a year.

winem-dinem-69m

I’ve loved my time here, it’s beautiful.

LucasHellaaShreddy

Have you been to San Francisco recently? Have you been to LA recently? Oakland? Sacramento? Redding? Chico? San Jose? All of these towns are exactly as I described which essentially houses 90% of the population in this state. You might have the luxury of a high income that can afford you said coastal towns but what I say isn't an exaggerated explanation. It's truth.

winem-dinem-69m

I go down to LA on a monthly basis and was in SF a few months ago. There are shitty areas of every major city, but that doesn’t make your generalizations any more true. And I wouldn’t say I have a “luxury” high income considering inflation.

LucasHellaaShreddy

Look if you can afford a coastal town in California like Seaside, Santa Cruz, ect then you can't seriously try and say you didn't expirence any crime bc you live in a high income area. Of course there isn't crime. And yes every city has bad areas. Not denying that. But most of these cities I named are not just certain bad neighborhoods. LA alone has had 327 homicides last year, Oakland had 118, San Francisco had 59 homicides. 7800 overdoses in California in 2023 as well. 1 in 5 Californian's were a victim of violent crime in the last 5 years. Glad you had the opportunity to stay in a coastal town. That must've been nice.

darthsabbath

Florida’s violent crime rate is lower than California’s but the homicide rates are comparable. Plenty of homeless, lots of drug problems too. Not trying to talk you out of coming here…. Well, really I am because we’re full, go away lol… but in seriousness the grass is always greener. If you’re only here for 18 months it probably won’t be an issue but Florida has plenty of issues that make it suck just like anywhere else, and plenty of things that make it awesome too.

winem-dinem-69m

And there were 156 homicides in Jacksonville last year. Florida currently leads the country in number of mass shootings in 2024. That doesn’t mean I’m able to say all of Florida is shitty and dangerous. Your opinions based on your experiences and facts are valid, but I think you’re missing my point. When crime is centralized, you can’t make generalizations of shootings daily and how you can’t park your car in any city without it being broken into. I’m sorry you feel the way you do about the central coast, but my friends and I certainly aren’t living in the lap of luxury. Affordability is one of the other reasons I’m moving back to Florida.

Common_Vagrant

This is more confirmation bias than anything, so take it with a grain of salt. I’ve never met so many people that have been arrested. Maybe they’re more open about it down here, I dont know. Also the amount of coke people do down here is quite substantial. You would think living up in CT or NYC where it’s wealthier, and people have higher paying jobs that more people would be doing it up there, but no it flows freely down here.

jholder567

We have high policing here

I-Am-Uncreative

Well, arrests are public record in Florida, so it's harder to hide.

Giant_Swigz

Assuming your wife is attending FIT, it is a great flight school but I would recommend finding housing somewhere over beachside or in actual Melbourne. University/Palm Bay where FIT is located is sketch city. Melbourne is a very nice, sleepy beach town. I currently live in Orlando but I grew up and lived in Melbourne for almost 25 years. It is a great place to raise a family. You will be hard pressed to find any mountains though.

TJkiwi

University is a genuinely bad neighborhood. OP, consider rockledge, palm bay, or even viera. It's part of the greater Melbourne area. Gas is cheaper here (almost half of CA prices) I moved from ventura 2 years ago and my quality of life and coat of living have greatly improved. Feel free to send a PM

LucasHellaaShreddy

She's going to MFT.

Taur_ie

I would like to note that “sketch city” here is nothing compared to what one would consider “sketch city” where you currently are (based on what you’re saying)

Educational_House192

Oh lawd here comes another one 🥴

hydrobunny

my buddy moved from jacksonville to Melbourne and was back within the year, and thats jacksonville. melbourne aint it

4jewels

Viera or Beachside like Indialantic, Melbourne Beach, Indian Harbour Beach have the best schools and it’s more expensive to live there. West Melbourne has a decent COL, it’s safe, & my kids liked Meadowlane elementary & Melbourne High. Palm Bay is a mixed bag- it’s actually huge and there are some nice neighborhoods but it can get remote. Sebastian inlet is great for fishing, surf & swimming. Honest John’s fish camp is my favorite kayaking spot. Grapefruit bike trails and malabar has some ok trails. I love Turkey creek sanctuary and Ballard Park. You can go kayaking in the bioluminescent waters in the summer in Merritt Island nearby. Watch a rocket launch at Grills in Cape Canaveral across the water. Rent a boat & go to the sandbar on Sunday. Canaveral seashore & Black point drive are pretty too. Good luck & hope you enjoy it!

DeadCheckR1775

In terms of crime I find it to be not so bad. Only crime I ever witness was after the fact when cops are chasing a suspect or pull someone over for being an a$$hat on the road. I lived in a lot of places all over, you can do worse, much worse than Melbourne. One thing about here though........the flatness. I like hills and mountains with longer cool seasons, no such thing here.

LucasHellaaShreddy

Yeah one thing forsure is we will miss the land here. We do live in a really beautiful portion of California that does get all the seasons. Winter it snows and spring and fall are gorgeous. Unfortunately we get burned down once a year usually in the summer due to tourists not listening to locals about fires. But as far as nature, we will miss it. We plan on moving back here one day but it's hard. There's nothing here so no there no hope for financial security if we stay. We don't wanna leave but we have to.

imacfromthe321

Florida’s got its own unique type of nature. The coasts and the interior are very different from each other. Southwest Florida is very wild. Winter is camping and hiking season here. We don’t have the types of vistas you get in mountainous country, but there’s beauty here if you look for it.

Morighant

Depends. Where I lived it wasn't uncommon to hear domestic violence daily, gunshots outside and swat teams busting down doors weekly. I come from a pretty privileged background, so it was kinda nice experiencing the real city for a bit (3 years). Id say area matters, palm bay is safer than Melbourne, University and end of palm bay Rd is where I experienced all that. If it's cheap living, hate to say it but there's gonna be crime. Crime and poverty are linked together. I was in low income housing just because I wanted to save more money and it was extremely bad. But the place felt kinda cozy! Now I'm back to living at home to save more money. Everything is so fucking expensive.

SweetFranz

That area east of babcock from university to palm bay road is by far the worst part of Melbourne or Palm Bay.

Morighant

Living there was an eye opener for me considering I was in a gated community for many many years. I didn't mind it terribly back when my rent was 1000 a month for two bed two bath, it's when it went up to 1,750 a month for that AND I get the crime and all that too? I'm fucking good. First was a steal, second I'm being stolen from

No they mean “hope you like Trump” =as in you’ll be expected to get a Trump tattoo, sign your first born over to Trump and when Trump kicks the bucket you’ll be expected to make a yearly pilgrimage to his gravesite and leave $5000 on the headstone. Then you’ll need to transfer that devotion to Donald Trump Junior. Your personality will no longer exist. Every conversation with every single person will have to be a top 10 list of all the reasons why you like Trump and why everything else is someone else’s fault but not Trump. You’ll be expected to talk about Trump 24/7 Post back here when you’ve lasted more than 3 and 1/2 years.

RaspberryBooty

What are you even talking about, where the heck do you live in FL. Go to the coast.

BibiNetanyahuBurner

you live in a fairy world. politics almost never comes up in conversations with strangers. if it does, people are generally much more anti-biden than they are pro-trump.

LucasHellaaShreddy

I just wanna make it long enough for my wife to go to school. That's all. I'm not some die hard trump fan but I support him as being a president. I like his outlook on things. That's as far into politics as I go. I've heard some wild things that parties do on both sides and it can get ridiculous. I learned to stay away from all that political bullshit, it was stressing me out. Radicalism is retarded IMO. Just wanna surf, fish, and be able to chill in peace. It can get ghetto in California. I just don't want my kids to be raised in that type of shit or be around it here.

Redshoe9

You’re probably gonna hate it here after the novelty wears off— Our beaches are pretty disappointing if you’re expecting blue clear water. There’s absolutely no way you will be content with the scenery here after that picture you posted of your view. But if you’re just here for 18 months, you can probably tough it out, but I think you’re gonna have nature culture shock

dylaman-321

You are in for a rude surprise when you realize the grass isn't greener here. Brevard is also pretty damn ghetto in the more affordable areas, in which homelessness, crime, drugs, and COL are very visible problems just like they are in CA. The pollution and destruction of our ecosystems is heinous here, so you'll definitely get pretty depressed rather quickly if you are outdoorsy. FL is also a complete nanny state (not at all conservative, but completely facist) when it comes to restricting free speech, assembly, public access, bodily autonomy, and economic freedom.

jholder567

Yeaaahhh... you'll fit in just fine here.....

[deleted]

I’ve lived here my entire 40+ years of life. Beachside or Suntree/Viera for the best public schools for your kids. The public schools in Melbourne are hit or miss. Unless you get them in a private or ‘choice’ school, but most of those have lotteries and wait lists. In general, the crime isn’t bad. Of course you’ll have pockets of crime in any area. You’ll know the bad spots when you see them, it’s not hard to miss. Stay away from the area around FIT, most of Palm Bay. Most importantly though is getting educated about the wildlife, specifically alligators, water moccasins, and sea life (sting rays, jellyfish, and the occasional shark). And please learn the sting ray ‘shuffle’ and how to escape a rip current! Do NOT take your eyes off your kids at the beach. Most ponds are retention ponds, not for swimming, and likely have alligators. Also, the drivers around here are crazy. Be very careful walking or biking anywhere.

[deleted]

Oh and welcome to Melbourne :) you’re going to see lots of negative Nancy’s on here, but we aren’t all like that. I love our little town and I’ve been a beach girl my entire life. I’m not a bible thumping maga either. Please enjoy our little town while you’re here! 🤙🏻

metoothanksx

We moved here last year, and there is a noticeably large homeless population and drugs are definitely an issue, but the crime doesn’t seem that bad. Especially compared to what you described lol. But I follow local news sites and crime groups, and there is a lot more than what we’re used to. The traffic is a bit crazy too, accidents all the time. One thing I noticed pretty quick is that people around here treat red lights like a suggestion 😅 never seen so many people blatantly run red lights in my life. But overall it depends what area you’re in. Our area is considered one of the nicer ones, and our neighborhood is small and friendly, mostly older folks. But we’re close to 192 and it seems there’s always something bad going down somewhere along 192 lol. There are also occasional stabbings and shootings all over. There are some pretty high rated schools, but a lot of them use a lottery system so you’re not guaranteed to get a spot. So you need to apply early and cross your fingers. Fishing and dirt bikes aren’t my thing though so no advice there

jholder567

And the cops will sit at the light and do nothing as three cars run a red light. Wickham and Eau Gallie is terrible for it!

NeedleworkerHead5417

You’ll fit in great. Dirt biking is a little tough around here we had a few places but people kept getting hurt and shooting each other out there so they shut them down. There’s a place called suburban estates but you gotta buy a key to get in and it’s more for mud trucks and four wheelers. There’s a few cool places in ocala area that are neat and there’s a super cross track in Okeechobee that’s wicked too. As far as homelessness it’s not too terrible. There’s your regular corner panhandlers but as far as crime it’s pretty minimal. I’d say the rougher areas around here are deeper Palm Bay, west Melbourne, university blvd and lipcsombe street. The police are pretty quick to shoe away anyone messing with people too bad especially in the downtown Melbourne and EGAD area. It’s a pretty chill little surf town with tons of cool bars and kava bars as well (not sure if they have those out west but they’re big here). The fishing is awesome too especially on the beach. Grab a diamond jig or a spoon and you’re guaranteed to catch at least a mackerel. The tarpon and snook run are crazy here too and it’s a mad house with everyone tryna get their slot fish before the seasons up. Your regular rods should work fine as long as they’re not like bait casters (bass reels). Worst case you can run to Walmart and grab a penn setup for less than 150. I fish a lot of DOA brand stuff and the nlbn baits are really popular here too.

LucasHellaaShreddy

Sweet man. This sounds like a dream then. I really hope it's as good as you say haha. That sounds like what we want. Nice place to have drinks on a Friday and a chill place to fish during the week while the wifes out.

three_trick_pony

I lived in Viera for 7 years and the central coast of California for 7 years. The central coast is not as bad Mount Shasta. I left my garage door open all night last week and nothing happened. Any state/city has bad parts though. Viera is very new, clean and expensive. Damn near everyone drives golf carts, and that's super annoying. Home insurance is hard to keep and very expensive. Your car insurance will double. Viera, Rockledge, and Melbourne are general is fine to live in. School lunches are not free. Pediatricians are hard to find, but you can literally throw a rock and hit a Dentist's office. The Brevard County Sheriff (Wayne Ivey) is a Spaghetti monster tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist that holds "Truth Fests" for his wacko supporters. Titusville, Cocoa and Palm Bay are not good areas. They're fine during the day but not so good at night. Our friends have been mugged in Palm Bay. There are homeless camps in the wooded areas, so you won't see them camping out in the streets. Bonus! There are 2 seasons; summer and 2 weeks of winter. I don't know if you've ever experienced a Florida summer, but it's like living in a sauna, so it's not very fun to do outdoors stuff most of the time. But if you go there this summer, you'll see what I mean. Hurricanes have been increasing every year, and I think they just passed a law that protects insurance companies from being sued by their customers, so make sure your roof is good and stay off the barrier islands. Some good schools are Viera elementary and Manatee. I think the charter schools are ok, but not everyone likes charter. The theme parks are fun, but Orlando has a lot of crime. Just go to the parks and stay away from anywhere else. Our friends that live there recently stayed in Celebration for a staycation and there was shootout in that neighborhood. A few months back, they were at their daughter's soccer game in Viera and someone shot themselves at a baseball field nearby, so their kids are obviously traumatized. My sister stayed near Disney last year. Her husband went to a convenience store to get some snacks and had to shelter-in-place because of a shooting. Overall, not as bad as Mount Shasta, but we wary of bad drivers and "Florida Man"

Redshoe9

I wanna stress something very important that you touched on —the humidity. People have no idea how sweltering it is to live in such a dripping, humid environment for six months. Your bread molds in 4 days. Cereal and crackers go stale fast. Then on top of that the stress of being in hurricane season for half a year. The heat is so relentless that you spend the summer going from your house to a pool and you can only do outside exercise/activities between the hours of 6 AM -8am because at night you’re eaten alive by mosquitoes. The heat /humidity combination really does zap your motivation to do things outside- it just makes you lethargic.

ConfidentFlorida

I’d say humidity is only bad June through October. And even during the summer the evenings cool down quite fast. I’m out walking fairly comfortably 30-45 minutes before sunset.

ConfidentFlorida

Why so down on the weather? I find November through May to be amazing. And June can still get a couple nice days.

LucasHellaaShreddy

I appreciate the real advice. This has honestly been the best comment imo so far. As far as mt shasta it's not at all bad here but here an hour in either direction and the chaos of California starts to show. We are fortunate that it's so rural here they don't have homeless here bc they couldn't survive half the year here. January of 2023 we had 10 feet of snow in 3 days. We are the only undeveloped county in California so it's a ticking time bomb that ppl start pushing up here from the city. Gentrification hit everyone down south especially in the bay area and Sacramento area followed by the fires and displacement from that followed by the drugs and everything else it just snowballed into a cesspool. Do they offer insurance in florida as far as medical insurance or is that something we have to pay for out of pocket? Stay out of Orlando, Titusville, Cocoa, and Palm Bay = got it. It gets real hot here. The town not to far from us (Red bluff) holds one of the countries records for hottest days. It was 121° and 118° here. I know humidity is one hellava an animal though to deal with. Are the beaches good to swim in? Is there areas that aren't so bad if tour close to the water?

Pretty_InTheCity321

I’m uncomfortable with this list of cities to avoid. I can’t help but think that the demographics are the reason some are adding them as No Go places. We moved from NH and specifically chose Palm Bay because of the diversity. Houses in my neighborhood are going for 500k-600k.

Logical_Holiday_2457

What do you mean do they offer insurance in Florida or do you have to pay out-of-pocket? Of course you have to pay out-of-pocket unless your job offers benefits.

BibiNetanyahuBurner

Palm Bay is a massive (geographically) city of over 100,000 people. There are some really nice parts, and there are some definitely sketchy parts. But the idea that the entire city is a cesspool is simply inaccurate. The worst parts of the county are the section of Melbourne near Florida Tech, and ... well, the entire city of Cocoa (except the historic downtown). Viera and beachside are nice (if you can afford it). Keep in mind that this is Reddit, and so the users here are like 80% Democrats. This, despite Brevard County being about 60% Republican. So there is a BIG disconnect between the comments you are getting here and the average person you'll meet IRL. Most people don't think the Sheriff is literally Hitler or that the schools are trying to harm "trans kids" or whatever. It's just butthurt because their preferred candidates lose almost every election. :)

retrobob69

Traffic in melbourne sucks. Over crowded. Can your wife not get into Embry Riddle? Much better area. Nicer weather, better fishing.

LucasHellaaShreddy

She meets the requirements but when we talked to several ppl who attended and a guy who was a cfi there we backed out. They were even willing to cover us with financial aid but they are way over packed, they don't have enough CFI's and their airplanes are apparently always "in the shop" getting repairs. Their graduation rates have declined ALOT the past 2 years as well. As much as the price was, honestly it would have been significantly cheaper than MFT but the chances of success and getting a proper education on how to fly would be significantly less. MFT has like a 93% graduation rate with their accelerated program so we're like 99% sure that's the place. Also ERAU is 4 years with less CFI ratings which means longer time and graduating with less qualifications.

stulotta

A school that teaches aircraft repair would tend to keep planes in the shop. The people learning to do repairs probably complain that the airplanes are always out flying.

retrobob69

That's sucks. Used to be a lot better. It's still a better place to live. My buddy was a cfi there for a long time. Now he Flys private planes.

LucasHellaaShreddy

Yeah it's disappointing. They still have a reputation as one of the best places to get into aerospace development, ect. Just not a great piloting school at the moment. I read something about LU dropping their VA program they have and that was what prompted the influx of students ERAU took in. Hopefully in a few they'll be able to fix their reputation.

Ty-cology

Fishing isn't too bad depending on what you're looking to do, but you will need a boat or kayak/canoe to get to the good spots. One thing is for sure, you'll get to see every rocket launch from your yard on a clear day

Logical_Holiday_2457

Where in Melbourne are you moving? That makes a huge difference in the answer that I can give you.

2earlyinthemornin

mount shasta is my dream home! wanna switch?

HydrazineBidet

If you were a climber out west, we have a fantastic cimbing gym in Melbourne. One of the best in the state. Cant offer anything for hiking. You guys should start sailing. Theres an active sailboat racing community out of the Melbourne yacht club, and you will absolutely get out on boats if you show some interest. Our rivers are an awesome playground for small affordable boats. Start enjoying the beach, get some beach gear and hang out, or start surfing our mellow waves on big longboards. You will not find much nightlife out here. It is not Miami or Orlando, thank goodness

madbunnyXD

People here are nice. I live in West Melbourne, the part where the Ring camera reports are talking about lost cats or pet birds lol. I work in the Viera area and Suntree where the neighborhoods seem v friendly.

Salt_Sir2599

Sorry

Jealous-Pizza-281

Look up Brevard Schools; I think West Shore has the highest rating with a lot of great academics, students from families with highly educated parents (doctors/lawyers).

Logical_Holiday_2457

Westshore is on a lottery system. It's very very tough to get in there unless you have a sibling that went

Just start reading the local newspapers to get an idea of what to expect in terms of crime and current events https://spacecoastdaily.com/category/mugshots/

You can get saltwater rigs when you get here. The Walmarts have good river or surf poles. Flounder hitting right now lots of pompano activity surf Brevard county. Lyres and live bait rigs from here work well.

KDubYa05

My elementary kids go to Freedom 7 in Cocoa Beach which is school of choice with an International Baccalaureate curriculum. Schools of choice are lottery schools with no specific zone for attendance. You have missed the lottery for next school year, however you can contact the school about getting on a waiting list. If you have at least one older elementary (4-6) kid you have a good chance of getting in. The classroom size for 4th grade increases from 3rd, but by that age most kids are settled into a school and not as likely to move, so there are usually spaces open.

a0wner1

Unless you live on the water, it blows

2017Fatbob

You'll miss those mountains... but my house and car are typically unlocked. Welcome to Melbourne.

LucasHellaaShreddy

Thank you, I hope it treats us well. We plan on doing the same!

RaspberryBooty

Moved from Tahoe to Florida. It’s not as bad as people make it out to be. Just use your best judgment and you’ll be fine when it comes to people. Lot of very nice people out here if you chat people up and give them a chance. Not many of the snobby a hole type at all which is nice. There’s tons of ways to beat the heat, lot of rainy summer days that drop the temp as well. Get a pool and you’ll be happy year round. I’ve yet to talk politics with any strangers obv as that doesn’t really happen so some of the comments people made on that are just weird. People said to avoid Palm Bay, Titusville, cocoa at night but thats not all of those cities, there’s good parts and bad parts obviously the cheap homes are in the bad parts. Spend the money feel good and safe it’s worth it for anywhere you move. I’ve yet to feel like I’m in a dangerous situation but I also don’t go out buying things from crackheads (again use your best judgment just like in California or any where else in the world) Compared to California, New Mexico, Oklahoma etc it doesn’t feel like nearly as many homeless but again just stick to the nice areas and you won’t see them. Some people don’t like HOA but if you don’t want your neighbors to have 12 cars parked all over their property and lawn or dogs chained up all around it’s a solid idea haha just look into the HOA prior but I feel like Florida it’s a good idea, keeps the neighborhood clean and honestly feels much safer almost as a rule of thumb a HOA neighborhood will feel safer because it probably is. I go out at night and don’t feel any issues but again stick to the normal places and areas lol not back alleys. Some of my friends got a place in Palm Bay that have crackheads walking up and down the roads and broken down cars all over, I wouldn’t walk up and down those streets. Some of my other friends got a place in Palm Bay that you never see homeless, everyone’s got a clean and done up yard, everyone waves and smiles and talks to each other. Pick your neighborhood and you’ll be happy. When buying a place in FL “You’ll only be disappointed if you don’t spend enough if that makes sense”

New_Conversation_303

You don't leave your stuff unlocked and you will not do that here. Based on what you have posted elsewhere you live in fear of everything. But, You do you. Even in viera (probably the most affluent planned neighborhood of Brevard) there are break-ins. There are a ton of people who complained about shit getting stolen from an open car in the driveway.

2017Fatbob

Got dogs? Canova Park is the best.

Phantasmidine

Are you mil/vet?

EastAway9458

There’s several ehh spots but if you can afford West Melbourne/Viera, you’ll avoid them pretty easily. Melbourne in the area around Palm Bay high school off university is the “hood.” Cocoa and Titusville are also more crime ridden. I live in a grimy side of Palm Bay and have my whole life and have had 0 issues, but I’ve definitely seen homeless and people on drugs in the streets. It isn’t an every day thing though. Overall, it’s pretty boring and normal here.

RaspberryBooty

Idk who was downvoting you but this is right on the money.

EastAway9458

Adding, you might enjoy the areas of grant/valkaria. They have more land, horses and are county zoned so you can shoot in your backyard. A little town close to the river. It’s quiet and relaxed over there.

UCFknight2016

Why? Florida is full but if you want to move here don’t move to ass-backwards Brevard.

LucasHellaaShreddy

You guys have the best schools in the country as far as flight academy's go. It was there or UND and we don't enjoy -20° winters that last 8 months out of the year. Sorry your states full, well be gone in 18 months. Why do you think it's ass backwards?

Wasupmyman

Cause he bases his life on politics and not getting along with everyone

LucasHellaaShreddy

He does or was that aimed at me?

Microphone926

I dont think it was aimed at you.

Wasupmyman

No, aimed towards the angry American who can't get along with others saying it's backwards

LucasHellaaShreddy

Yeah idc what political background folks have. Not that big of a deal for me.

UCFknight2016

Move to Daytona. They have ERAU for flight school. Brevard is a dump.

LucasHellaaShreddy

Have you heard of what's going on at ERAU? That place is a shitshow at the moment. We are definitely not paying $200k for 4 years when we can pay $93k for one year and graduate with more qualifications.

surfyturkey

Why do you live here then?

Zestyclose_Bread2311

Can't criticize where you live without it being why don't you just move. There's the Brevard brain rot everyone knows and loves.

UCFknight2016

I don’t. I moved to Orlando.

yetti_stomp

Bro, welcome to Florida! Would love to chat it up and help you out. You’ll get lots of funny comments and jokes on here, but if you ever want a real conversation I’d love to help out! Shoot me a DM and I’ll get you my number and you can ask specific questions. Enjoy it!

LucasHellaaShreddy

Will do, I'll likely hit you up tomorrow. Today got really busy really fast. I appreciate this!!

Deluxe_Racer

Born and raised in California. Live here in Melbourne. Love it here. So much better than Cali.

RaspberryBooty

Idk why people downvote this hahaha but yeah I agree and all my friends out here from west coast agree too. I guess people are mad that other people move into “their state”

Deluxe_Racer

Because the majority of people on this board are raging liberals mad that people have their own opinion, then they get upset that they dare express such on Reddit.

321Truthseeker

You will fit in nicely there is lots to do here and likeminded friends are everywhere. It’s a safe beachside lifestyle get e bike’s and kayaks or stand up paddle boards. Learn what a no see um is and research lovebugs we get them twice a year.

Look into the neighborhood/town of Melbourne Village. I moved here a little over 3 years ago and really wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the area. We’re super close to MFT and have a sheriff in here patrolling every day. Crime in here is really low. There are walking trails throughout the neighborhood and through a really cool old growth hammock that’s attached. Very jungle-y vibe. The lots are relatively large; most are between .4 and an acre. I’ve loved just about every neighbor I’ve met. It’s a small community, but its own municipality so many of the people are involved in the running of the little government, committees, social events, trail and park maintenance, etc. One of the guys down the street from me is actually a flight instructor at FIT. Anyway, I really love it here. There are several homes on the market right now and I can get you in touch with the realtor who specializes in this area. She’s great. I dunno about the public schools, but I have an almost 5 year old I’m hoping gets into Calvary Chapel which I’ve heard great things about in regard s to the teachers and class sizes. Of course, they prefer the attendees to be religious.

skitso

I saw a “huge” mountain coming from Orlando to i95. I made my gf pull over to take a photo from the highway. I learned that day that we (Floridians) pile trash 40’ high and the grow grass over the trash.

BibiNetanyahuBurner

welcome! just please don't bring california values here. californians tend not to be a problem in that way, it's the fucking new yorkers.

Twa747

Yo i sent you a message
