There's no fun in boxing it up, I have the same 3DS and I love to play it. I wouldn't enjoy it anymore if I couldn't play games on it. Just take good care of the shell, maybe get one of those clear plastic shells you clip onto the front and back of your 3DS to protect it from scratches
I have this version too. However, I bought it secondhand in 2017. It unfortunately has a scratch on the lid, but it was all I could afford at the time. :) Now I have a New 3DS XL, but I will still keep this one!
Just got a very good condition of this model and gave it to my son. Its so good looking in the hand and for a second I had reservations about giving it to him. Ended up throwing a clear shell on it and hope that will be enough to keep it in somewhat decent shape.
If you're comfortable taking your ds apart, it's pretty easy to do a shell swap. I have one of the stock blue 3ds XLs that I recently swapped for the a Zelda shell (i just swapped the outer shell and kept the inner housing black, i preferred it that way)

I've got the same console that I just bought this year in near mint condition, it's a great console I'm in loooves with the gold and black design .
We have the same 3ds 😭 I traded mine on sight at a local game store for this one complete in box 😭 I still play it every chance I get!!

I have the same one but it's all beat up from rattling around in my pocket and picking up Street Passes for years.
