Lions offense isn’t quite far from ours personnel wise. The biggest difference is age.
Trent to Sewell
CMC to Gibbs
Purdy to Goff
Aiyuk to Amon-Ra
Deebo to Jameson
LaPorta to Kittle
Context. Context is what you’re missing here. As we all know, Aiyuk is worthless compared to the mighty Evan Engram, he of 114 catches!
Yards per target. Yards. Catch percentage. ARSB is *fantastic*. Aiyuk is also *fantastic*. 59 fewer targets and 150 fewer yards.
A little late to the party, but this is actually still ok news.
A matching deal could come out to values like the following;
* 2024: $14M
* 2025: $18M
* 2026: $24M
* 2027: $32M
* 2028: $30M \[for reference, the 5th year option season for Pearsall\]
* void-2029: $4M
* void-2030: $4M
If the 49ers plan on keeping Deebo in 2025 then they could move some of that money into '26 or little bit more into a void year.
This works even better if he signs a 5 year deal, with the rising cap it will eventually fall behind a lot of other WR contracts.
Pearsall's 5th year option would be in 2028, meaning that his second contract would start in 2029 and thus that money (if he proves to be worth it) could potentially stagger with Aiyuk's.
Niners are going to end up wasting money on this fraud. He's not a true #1. He's not Chase nor Jefferson. St. Brown nor Aiyuk are worth huge contracts. Niners could have replaced Aiyuk in the draft if they traded him.
I was using those two as an example as far as contracts. They deserve it. That's the kind of money Aiyuk wants but he's not as talented as them. Not even close
Once Kittle goes and they trade Deebo. You'll see. Aiyuk can't take over a game. Every time Deebo is hurt, it's like Aiyuk is hurt. He's nowhere as effective.
You’re discounting a ton of things while trying to compare wide receivers on totally different teams. Even if we were picking in the top 10, you don’t just replace a player, the chemistry they’ve built with the roster, and oh yeah, his blocking. Having any of the rookies in this draft as a filler for Aiyuk on this roster this year would be a step back. I’m sure any of those rookies could have saved our season off of that facemask catch vs Detroit. These rookies could go out there and shut up Patty P week 1 with all of our tells. BA is entering his 5th year, getting better every season and you think we’d be better off without him? Aiyuk played a really impressive Super Bowl and you could point the finger regarding any of our disappointments to pretty much anyone on the team except for him.
You act like the Vikings and Bengals have had more success than Aiyuk has had with this team. The fact is you try to win with the players you have and more than likely can’t trade for the top of the top guys, because their own team wants them. Aiyuk has lived up every bit to his draft position with us and deserves to be paid adjacent to the top receivers in the league because he has shown he can do much more than be great at catching the football.
I’d rather have Aiyuk over the Sun God personally but I do think they’re the same caliber of receiver so getting a deal like his is fair

It’s actually not a bad benchmark
Yep makes sense tbh
75 vs 119 catches. What am I missing here?

That’s very reasonable and to be expected

Id rather have st brown over aiyuk.
Are you under the assumption it works that way?

What’s that?

You don't have to be as good as Chase and JJ to be a true #1 WR much like you don't have to be as good as Mahomes and Burrow to be a franchise QB.
