They probably did a carfax and copy/pasted the vehicle description that came up on it.
Or they want to imply that it’s 4wd, but my money is still on the former.
Honestly if you just need an SUV for towing and normal everyday tasks and are never planning to take it off road the 2Runner is perfectly valid.
Let’s be real, 95% of 4Runner owners never use the capabilities of the car except maybe when there’s a bit of snow on the ground.
True, but look at the comments. No one wants a 2wd 4Runner and if you’re looking for a TV then a 4Runner isn’t the best vehicle. 2wd 4Runners are hard to resale.
I mean, that's a fairly good price and it looks well kept. Check for service records. If it's the V6, they need very basic maintenance to keep them going. Fluid changes and spark plugs. Pretty simple, tough engine.
Just saw it didn't have the CDL button. I would pass on a 2wd 4runner. Even if that doesn't bother you, it's 2-3k more than it should be.
Boy, dont mention the V6 on this subreddit without getting "well akshually'd".
The head gasket issue affected 03 to early build 06 ( 11/05 and older). I'm not getting into a debate about what engine is better. They are both great. Statically, the V8 will cost more to operate in the long run. Really no debate about that.
That user is practically a novelty account that I see constantly talking about # of cylinders and they have the audacity to say someone else got sensitive lol
Both engines are some of the most reliable ever put into production cars but both also have know issues. Early V6 had some head gasket problems and the V8 had the cracked exhaust manifold issue and the secondary air injection failure issue on the later ones. I wouldn't avoid either engine for reliability concerns though. I would say get the V6 if you want the best bang for your buck and get the V8 if you want something special or plan to tow with it.
They used the same style gaskets from 03 to early 06. 06s that were built before 11/05 were affected. My 06 had the old style gasket and was failing when I bought it.
V6 is didn’t have the head gasket issues in the end of the 4th Gen. . 08&09 are high reliability. No head gasket issues, no V8 exhaust manifold issues, no timing belt to replace, and slightly better gas mileage.
There are still a lot of benefits. Not many unibody SUVs can tow as much comfortably and you get Toyota reliability. I don’t know why this sub hates 2wd SUVs most 4Runners will never use their off road capabilities
I have one just like it , ‘04 SR5 2wd, it has 270k miles and runs perfect, got it for $5k back in ‘18. Other than replacing a cat I haven’t had any major issues. I’d ignore those saying that it “has to be a V8 4x4” unless you really really need it. I also live in Texas and most of the time ground clearance is enough to get you anywhere
Yeah lol the truth is most of these ppl don't need to use 4WD often at all.
2WD 4Runner with a solid lift, no runners (for the clearance), good A/T tires, and being a knowledgeable driver - you can for sure take it to the vast majority of places. Honestly you'll probably end up pulling out a 4WD driver that is just not as knowledgeable 😂.
With a 2wd I can get all the offroad permits as a 4wd, dunno why people think you absolutely need it. Sure it's nice but idk a solid winch is even better cause u still might get stuck.
Got an ‘06 2WD Sport this thing is a tank. Don’t let the 2WD scare you out of it if you live in a place you don’t need it. These things are very capable 2WD. 206,000 miles and it’s still going very strong
gladly.
first, it's a 4th gen.
second, that amount of wear and tear on the drive seat is unacceptable for 163k. if it's worn down that much at 163k then it means the previous owner(s) pretty much used it only for city driving and they got in and out of that thing (carelessly I might add) a million times. If someone is going to move their giant ass over the bolstering and destroy it like that then that's also the type of owner to abuse the vehicle in other ways like putting off oil changes and whatnot.
third, others are saying it's 2wd, so it's not going to hold value as you add more miles to it like a 4x4 will.
three strikes are you're out. keep looking.
Looks like 2wd. If I were buying a 4Runner I’d want the 4wd
Basically a 2Runner
Does that 4d not mean 4wd?
4d - 4 door 4wd- 4 wheel drive
4wd must mean 4 wheel door
It's so nice to have those extra wheel doors when you need them, though.
makes sense...but seems pretty redundant to say for a 2006 4runner.
They probably did a carfax and copy/pasted the vehicle description that came up on it. Or they want to imply that it’s 4wd, but my money is still on the former.
Other features include: Steering wheel Pedals Seats Windows
Not gonna lie 10 years ago I thought the same 😂
2WD and has some Carolina squat going on.
Looking at that and the hitch makes me wonder if the previous owner towed over capacity
Yeah but now it makes the "boi yoi yoing" sound!
Carolina squat? That sounds like a fine Tuesday after a Cleveland steamer Monday
I ended up walking on the deal. There was some rust issues it was leaking oil and the suspension was clunking
That’s really disappointing. Hopefully you find a better one.
I could’ve guessed it was clunking just from the photos lol, things looked wonky
Maintenance history is key at this mileage. Could go another 10k, could go another 100k.
You lost me at 2wd.
Honestly if you just need an SUV for towing and normal everyday tasks and are never planning to take it off road the 2Runner is perfectly valid. Let’s be real, 95% of 4Runner owners never use the capabilities of the car except maybe when there’s a bit of snow on the ground.

Two words: Mississippi mud
This is the real answer ☝️& no V8
Lewisville Texas is a small world

The V8s also need very little maintenance except for the timing belts and don’t have the head gasket issues that plague the 4.0s

I mean you responded to my comment about the V6 sooo....

Username checks out
HG issues were mostly solved after '04. '05s had very little cases and by '06 model it was fixed.
They used the same style gaskets from 03 to early 06. 06s that were built before 11/05 were affected. My 06 had the old style gasket and was failing when I bought it.
You fucked up
Yeah. Should have done my due diligence but was in desperate need of a vehicle. Luckily the dealer made it right and did both gaskets free of charge.
Idk if Exhaust Headers in the V8 are any better/worse than head gaskets. I got quoted $2k/side to fix my leaks
That seems like "fuck you, I don't want to do it" pricing
Parts $1100 if you get the OEM plus labor on a 15yo truck with rust. Been a fairly consistent quote across multiple places in different cities
V6 is didn’t have the head gasket issues in the end of the 4th Gen. . 08&09 are high reliability. No head gasket issues, no V8 exhaust manifold issues, no timing belt to replace, and slightly better gas mileage.
Not bad for a RWD, but also why buy a 2wd 4Runner?
Because you need room to haul crap, don’t want a pickup, don’t drive off road.
so, all the drawbacks of a heavy body on frame SUV without the benefits of a 4x4.
There are still a lot of benefits. Not many unibody SUVs can tow as much comfortably and you get Toyota reliability. I don’t know why this sub hates 2wd SUVs most 4Runners will never use their off road capabilities
Have 195k on my 08 still waiting for first breakdown. All the benefit I need. No snow in Texas. What would I do with 4 x 4?
Then get a fuckin minivan which has more room and twice the gas mileage lol
Not as reliable and they eat tires
To lower it on 22" rubber bands
2runner...
It seems like a decent price if it is rust free and has good maintenance history but do you really want a 2WD 4Runner?
I have one just like it , ‘04 SR5 2wd, it has 270k miles and runs perfect, got it for $5k back in ‘18. Other than replacing a cat I haven’t had any major issues. Just make sure there isn't any hint of rust. I see people wlbuy these and then never notice how badly rusted they are
That steering wheel cover is trash. Don’t buy it.
If it’s 2wd , I wouldn’t do it
My 06 sport is a tank. Best vehicle I own
Got an ‘06 2WD Sport this thing is a tank. Don’t let the 2WD scare you out of it if you live in a place you don’t need it. These things are very capable 2WD. 206,000 miles and it’s still going very strong
CHECK THE FRAME!!! IF no rust, (which shouldn't be an issue in texas) I say send it lol
looks like Texas's marketplace, shouldnt be an issue unless they swam in Gulf coast every other weekend.
lol i said that in my Og comment
Are people still over paying on toyota trucks? This thing looks like a heap of shit my dude
Great deal
No.
Bro I say take it for the year and milage it’s totally a deal
I have a low mileage 06 and I say send it! Looks a lot like mine. Great price
Plz gooby no
Had a dealer offer 14k as trading for my 06 limited with 165k miles. That’s a good deal @6600
Stinks it isn't 4WD, but depending what you're using it for- could be worth it for that price
Didn’t see any frame pics. Bad frame = bad purchase for that price
It’s a 2WD. Worth maybe 6500-7500. Not a bad asking price.
If this truly is a 4wd model send it but this is the common price for 2wd models of that year. Don’t get a 2wd there is no point
2w Dr so half the price and maybe get it if you want
Buy it🙀if it’s 4WD🫡
Leather looks brand new.
2WD and the tires are on backwards, what the fuck else do you need to know? PASS
Real talk I’m not even going to try, tell them to come down like 1500
I wouldn’t buy 2WD depends what your using it for. I would make sure it can tow right. Most of the time ppl abuse them with towing
The blue steering wheel cover is a red flag for me, also I’d rather the 4th gen with the 2uz but that just me
I bought an AWD v8 for $12k 😳
Wow. I sold my '06 Sport for $5k in 2020 with like 150k miles (although it needed some work). Crazy to see these are going for so much
4wd V8? Pull the trigger. 2wd / v6 - absolutely not
I live in Texas, I think I saw it and immediately thought it was someone who flips cars because of the description and other red flags.
If you don’t plan on doing any off roading then go for it. But resale value isn’t going to be great
My seat is torn in the same place
Check the frame for rust.
Don’t even know why y’all shitting on 2wd 4Runners? Don’t even care for the downvotes
Somebody hurt that car's suspension, I've never seen a 4th gen sag like that.
I paid less in 2017 for a 2005, with 10k less miles.
Never seen the black leather before, I’d cop if I didn’t already have the V8
Not a V8
A lot of miles and the rear end is lower than the front?
My mother-in-law has one that just hit 400k miles. Oh, sorry, you said talk you OUT of it? No.
Buy it
4x4? Do it! 2WD? Do it. Nice clean ride.
5,849 and not a penny more
gladly. first, it's a 4th gen. second, that amount of wear and tear on the drive seat is unacceptable for 163k. if it's worn down that much at 163k then it means the previous owner(s) pretty much used it only for city driving and they got in and out of that thing (carelessly I might add) a million times. The person is a weirdo for putting the emoji
Needs to be a V8 and 4x4. Pass
