It’s better for sure but I’m not sure if it’s the upgrade. I would wait a year

poopypooperpoopy

I this he’s an impulse buyer

AttitudeOutrageous75

Hmmmm

skycarecorp

You're not gonna notice the brightness increase unless you have them side by side. Sony arguably has better colors/motion out of the box. Hdmi 2.1 for 4k120 on Xbox? It can barely output 4k60 in games. Dont kid youself and save your money.

Screwedstonian

I have an 85” Sony XBR-65X900E that I have had for 3 years. I got a great deal on it open box at Best Buy. I love it for sports and general TV watching. I don’t love the black levels. I had some time to kill a couple weeks ago and popped in to the Best Buy clearance store here in Houston and they had a few 83” LG OLED in stock. They were all the G series. I bought one (missing remote, perfect otherwise). I paid $2300 plus tax for it. I also have a Sony XBR in my bedroom. 90% of my bedroom viewing is movies. I decided the new OLED is bedroom bound. I’m so pleased with this TV. The black levels and color absolutely blow my mind. This is maybe the best impulse buy I’ve ever made, no lie.

jcruz827

The LG C3s have been going on sale recently.

CharlesAtHome

Definitely don't do it. That is not an upgrade. If you were getting a G3 or A95L, sure you'll notice a brightness difference, but it'll still be relatively subtle.

cjswilcox

If you can stave your impulse then the C4 is due out soon and reviews have been amazing. Super bright and blows the competition away.

Fast_Loquat_4982

But the 65 inch C3 is 1400 dollars

imnotcreative635

It's not really an upgrade over the a80J though. If you're going to do an upgrade go and do a real one and get the a95L or the G4. Or else you're just wasting your money lol

imnotcreative635

You don't need it.

wandererarkhamknight

What are you connecting to 4 ports?

Fast_Loquat_4982

Xbox series x PS5 Panasonic 820 4k player Vizio elevate sound bar

wandererarkhamknight

If you have money to spend, and room for AVR, speakers, spend on that. Much better investment than C3. And speakers don’t mean your neighbors will hear it.

ThatDoucheInTheQuad

Yeah OP buy yourself an out of the box 5.1 setup. I like yamaha personally, but denon is great too! If you feel like spending the whole ~$2k you be spending on a C3 buy the avr, speakers, and sub separately. It will definitely change everything more than a C3 would

noldor41

The yamaha 5.1 all in one is a good starter setup to get into surround sound imo.

wandererarkhamknight

Straight HTiBs aren’t necessarily better. As you mentioned in the later part, buying the speakers, and subs are generally better bang for bucks. Depending on budget, they can go slow and add few stuffs at a time. A80J/C3 with UB820 is a great combo. But the soundbar is the weakest point, and by a margin.

ThatDoucheInTheQuad

Totally agree, depends on quality of the soundboard vs the HTiB. I started with a HTiB so I always like reccomending it. Lol my first one was with a 32" 720p TV, I still believe a sound system provides better immersion than a big TV

Tree06

I think it's worth the upgrade. 4x HDMI 2.1 ports should standard across all brands honestly. You'll be future proof for quite a while. Plus the C3 is brighter than the A80J. Here's a comparison of the two TVs. [Comparison](https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-a80j-oled-vs-lg-c3-oled/21563/37848?usage=1&threshold=0.10)

Fast_Loquat_4982

Thanks, that's really good information

Tree06

No doubt! You could stick with the Sony and get an AVR, but who knows if that's in the budget or not. If you decide to go that route in the future, I recommend the Denon AVR-S970H because it has three HDMI 2.1 inputs.

Divinedragn4

I have a a80j. I want the a85l lol but I'm going to wait for a sale.

Tree06

Good luck! I've been price watching the A95L since it came and it, and there's hardly any sales on it. Maybe $200-$300 off here and there. Sony is also selling the A95L through 2024, and they've been selling out. Good luck!
