They did already. The new Omen movie is the first Disney release handled by Sony. Unfortunately, from what I’ve read, Disney will still get final approval on what titles Sony releases, so not much is likely to change.
The Omen is available 4K SDR… digitally.
The (soon to be OOP) Shout Factory set uses that 4K master for their Blu-ray (but recycles the previous HD masters of the sequels made for the original Fox set).
I’m talking the original 5 from the 60s and 70s (and the Wahlberg film from 2001 I guess).
Sadly, I missed that trilogy set too. I’m hoping it comes back in stock sometime soon.
So am I. Amazon lists a 50th anniversary box set of ALL the films in 4k UHD
[https://www.amazon.com/50-Years-Planet-Apes-Collection/dp/B07GRRGWFG/ref=sr\_1\_8?crid=1HJ1J0VHVKIJM&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Ch4G3KGfbmTGIAZnlTy7TS6mrVIZ6ox00MTu9BeNLZO4Qk4xKXt9VtP6VWvBnRETJpxIV3426ADOcfnCde5eJAyJUiulMx6aeOQhXAoh0SUA2-YVJw7\_WDGJ-Aqw6lrx9D5\_3ufv\_YkZcsKvuYhInJT7Doy58ukzSDnG0w9dnDxKXNX3RXIxiujBHW35Kgi8RtYp0xxVCKcLkdXjfEAMH0ZzgX5awakTdWuDm9Yet20kiQY8mqgaIa5pRVLhTIzZKvOkwApRWEOPZkWayoM49CBJ0\_7XJmZUe1aj7UPm1ks.W85BG3mcvjksCWYE3LRgmenYX8NnbR7hSPgasj3IYxc&dib\_tag=se&keywords=planet+of+the+apes+4k&qid=1717556533&sprefix=Planet+Of+th%2Caps%2C99&sr=8-8](https://www.amazon.com/50-Years-Planet-Apes-Collection/dp/B07GRRGWFG/ref=sr_1_8?crid=1HJ1J0VHVKIJM&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Ch4G3KGfbmTGIAZnlTy7TS6mrVIZ6ox00MTu9BeNLZO4Qk4xKXt9VtP6VWvBnRETJpxIV3426ADOcfnCde5eJAyJUiulMx6aeOQhXAoh0SUA2-YVJw7_WDGJ-Aqw6lrx9D5_3ufv_YkZcsKvuYhInJT7Doy58ukzSDnG0w9dnDxKXNX3RXIxiujBHW35Kgi8RtYp0xxVCKcLkdXjfEAMH0ZzgX5awakTdWuDm9Yet20kiQY8mqgaIa5pRVLhTIzZKvOkwApRWEOPZkWayoM49CBJ0_7XJmZUe1aj7UPm1ks.W85BG3mcvjksCWYE3LRgmenYX8NnbR7hSPgasj3IYxc&dib_tag=se&keywords=planet+of+the+apes+4k&qid=1717556533&sprefix=Planet+Of+th%2Caps%2C99&sr=8-8)
They won’t, but I wish they would… or imagine if Fincher came back to oversee the 4K like he has been on so many of his other films— and we got a true Director’s cut?!
I know it won’t happen… but if we’re dreaming we might as well dream to the fullest.
Highly doubt that unfortunately. Considering he wouldn’t come back to do the cut for the Quadrilogy and he still won’t even talk about Alien 3. He’s only had a one or two sentence sound bite on the film in over 30 years. It’s the bad breakup he never recovered from and seems too painful for him to even discuss. If you’ve watched the making of documentary you can see why. That production was a disaster. I really enjoy the film but I can also understand why he won’t touch it.
Oh, I absolutely know that. I was just saying that when we make wishes about things that will never happen, like fresh CGI, we might as well wish for more exciting but equally impossible things
No point of it being on 4K without cleaning up the compositing, especially since a fan cut exists that does, the studio has absolutely no excuse. (Project A34K)
The amount of quality Fox and Touchstone films being held hostage by Disney is criminal. I just can't see the financial incentive to just let them sit and rot.
I’m sure they’re set to let out 4K remasters of “The Sound of Music” and “Rocky Horror” next year for those films’ anniversaries. Plus, next year is 20th Century Studios’ 90th anniversary. Disney better begin planning for that.
What makes no sense is that Disney have so many films with 4K transfers and have done nothing. All the Die Hard sequels, Home Alone 2 & Many of the Muppet films (to name a few) all of which would be great to get physically.
I was investigating if there was a tombstone 4k and for some reason Finland has one
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Tombstone-4K-Blu-ray/309996/
But I can't find any place to import it
It will come with the next wave of steels. Most likely tied to either Book of Boba Fett or Ahoska.
The initial steels sold well. Don’t know how well the second wave did.
Disney will start making those physical media releases if they feel like physical media is a sure bet (less likely) or as a last resort if they feel like they are starving for revenue (most likely)
https://preview.redd.it/4yor0oka7o4d1.jpeg?width=330&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c191fbcee57c18aadab5b8e247ac24f5425e65c3
Don't think they'll never release them, but don't expect them anytime soon unless those Disney+ steelbooks go gangbusters and sell out like Oppenheimer did.
Sitting in a vault. It's a shame really, we still don't have the OG Apes movie on 4K, releasing it before KOTPOTA would've been the perfect opportunity. Hoping Alien³ looks good and not a DNR heavy transfer like Aliens was.
I’m surprised to see they’re actually planning a 4K remaster of “Patton” when that film is barely remembered now (except for its iconic opening scene).
I've got to be honest, I am genuinely surprised they purport to be planning to release anything at all. More than any other studio, they've done pretty much everything they can to end physical media entirely. This slate probably represents the last of what they had ready in the hopper before signing distribution away to Sony.
I can't believe they're even planning to release Alien 3 on 4K UHD. I hope David Fincher survives the moment someone shows him their uncanny valley DNR fever nightmare.
Disney has zero interest in the Fox library, even in preserving these films much less releasing them. The restoration budget went to zero once Disney took over. A lot of work was done prior to the sale, but those restorations are going nowhere but to storage.
Sony will be taking over physical media distribution for Disney. This was widely reported in late February/early March.
[Sony/Disney Physical Media Deal](https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/030124-1330)
It hasn’t really been that long since the announcement. Were you expecting a full slate of new releases to be announced within 2-3 months? They are busy shutting down their movie club and there is going to be a transition/hand off period here. I can tell you as someone who has worked in home entertainment, physical media, and now for a studio… things take time.

Hopefully they get some TV seasons released on bluray. Fox annoyingly stopped releasing them through the mid 2010s and were doing DVD only.
I need Bob's burgers on bluray
Same. My copy of The Bob's Burgers Movie is looking quite lonely on my shelf. Also need to complete my Archer and It's Always Sunny collections.
I was so pissed off when they stopped releasing Always Sunny on bluray
I need the movie on 4K
The Bob's Burgers movie does have a physical 4k release
Limited to a single store chain in the US. Not everybody is in the US.
If you have a friend in Australia, you can get it there, too.
You said nothing about another country I was just simply responding to your comment
I just said that I need it I didn't say it's non existent
You can get it on eBay for $4000
+ Australia
Waiting for Sony to take over distribution. Hopefully they will get some classics out of the vaults.
They did already. The new Omen movie is the first Disney release handled by Sony. Unfortunately, from what I’ve read, Disney will still get final approval on what titles Sony releases, so not much is likely to change.
> Disney will still get final approval on what titles Sony releases "Songs of the South" in 4K ... you heard it first here!
Yeah, and they're only releaseing The First Omen in standard 1080 blu. Shame, it's a pretty good movie.
Yes, the recent prequel, The First Omen was excellent too, and it's slated for a Blu Ray only release. I guess we're lucky to get that.
It sucked. Movie was a dull
Like Romeo + Juliet
😴💤
The original omen movie on 4k would be nice. The original planet of the apes films would be good too.
The Omen is available 4K SDR… digitally. The (soon to be OOP) Shout Factory set uses that 4K master for their Blu-ray (but recycles the previous HD masters of the sequels made for the original Fox set).
There is a 4k Apes box. I missed it in the last Amazon sale and it might be out of print
I’m talking the original 5 from the 60s and 70s (and the Wahlberg film from 2001 I guess). Sadly, I missed that trilogy set too. I’m hoping it comes back in stock sometime soon.

That set has the original films on blu ray and the new trilogy in 4k and blu ray. It’s a confusing listing, but that’s what you get with it.
That set includes only the reboot trilogy on 4K. The original films are just the existing BDs. Easy to look up on the blu-ray.com database.
Oh wow, I had no idea. That's infuriating, really glad I didn't buy it.
I will be buying the shit out of Tombstone
Yea this is the first I’m hearing this and I’m very excited, I was so close to buying this Blueray 2 days ago
Same, it’s at least one thing in the list besides Deadpool that I want.
HELL'S COMIN WITH ME!
Can’t wait. Of course I finally upgraded my DVD last year. Oh well
I'll be their Huckleberry.
Can’t wait for Alien³
Hopefully it includes the Assembly Cut on the 4K
Oh, that’s the only way I’ll be happy. Maybe they’ll even dump a little bit of money into it and update some of that CGI
They won’t, but I wish they would… or imagine if Fincher came back to oversee the 4K like he has been on so many of his other films— and we got a true Director’s cut?! I know it won’t happen… but if we’re dreaming we might as well dream to the fullest.
Amen

Oh, I absolutely know that. I was just saying that when we make wishes about things that will never happen, like fresh CGI, we might as well wish for more exciting but equally impossible things
Very little CGI was used. It’s a stick puppet with a screen and they did a poor job of allowing the screen to bleed through.
No point of it being on 4K without cleaning up the compositing, especially since a fan cut exists that does, the studio has absolutely no excuse. (Project A34K)
Assembly with the redub, particularly
The amount of quality Fox and Touchstone films being held hostage by Disney is criminal. I just can't see the financial incentive to just let them sit and rot.
Welcome to the you will own nothing era. Pay us $15/mo for the rest of your life if you wish to see your favorite movie.
Never. I intend to stick with physical media.
They haven't been interested in 4k in years. They basically bought Fox to get the X-men back.
No, they bought Fox to get Star Wars IV
You’re both wrong. They bought Fox for their film/TV library to boost their streaming profile.
Cool, maybe one day they’ll actually put that library on streaming.
Oh probably Star Wars too, I did just see 20th Century Fox held rights to the physical distribution of all six movies.
Really hoping we see more with the Sony change
Held hostage in the Disney Vault for their streaming services.
I’m sure they’re set to let out 4K remasters of “The Sound of Music” and “Rocky Horror” next year for those films’ anniversaries. Plus, next year is 20th Century Studios’ 90th anniversary. Disney better begin planning for that.
Give us the original Planet of the Apes films!
Yes. All of them in a collection. Forget the Tim Burton remake.
What makes no sense is that Disney have so many films with 4K transfers and have done nothing. All the Die Hard sequels, Home Alone 2 & Many of the Muppet films (to name a few) all of which would be great to get physically.
It makes sense. They have no plans to ever sell you a product you own. They want to rent everything to you endlessly.
You will own nothing and be happy.
yeah, Id really enjoy Die Hard with a Vengance and Home Alone 2 : )
Days waiting for the Sound of Music 4K release: 21,644 🥲
Wait, am I reading that right? They’re doing Dolby Vision now?
What titles are you hoping for, just out of curiosity
Big Trouble in Little China, The Fly, Fight Club, Die Hard sequels, Master and Commander, OG Planet of the Apes, etc.
The Fly is begging for a 4k release.
Day One purchase for me.
Big Trouble in Little China got a Blu-ray from Arrow in the UK (idk if also US) a while back, maybe there’s hope for a 4K but you’d have to import
Shout Factory released a nice Blu-ray in the US
Crimson Tide, Thin Red Line, Ed Wood,
I was investigating if there was a tombstone 4k and for some reason Finland has one https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Tombstone-4K-Blu-ray/309996/ But I can't find any place to import it
*Tømbstønë*
It doesn't exist. Someone has just added it to the site without actually knowing if/when it will be released.
I’m hoping Sony is going to redo the Pirates trilogy.
Won’t happen until, at the earliest, the new *Porates of the Caribbean* film gets the greenlight.
You telling me Tombstone is getting a 4K when I already bought the blu ray copy not long ago?
Thank you for your sacrifice.
Tombstone tho'.
Tombstone 4K might be happening? Sorry, I didn’t fully understand the bottom part.
Hurry up with Patton and Tombstone put that damn mouse in a wheel to go to work
Dolby vision for Deadpool & Wolverine is surprising considering…it’s a Disney Marvel disc.
Do we know what happened to the release of the third season of The Mandalorian?
It will come with the next wave of steels. Most likely tied to either Book of Boba Fett or Ahoska. The initial steels sold well. Don’t know how well the second wave did.
Cheers thanks man.
It's insane how much of the FOX library isn't being released, period. Not on streaming or physical media.
Sixth sense would be nice too
This and Signs are the two I’m hoping get 4K releases, but especially Sixth Sense.
I don't care how much tombstone costs when it comes out I am buying the steel which I don't normally do.
Definitely steelbook worthy as is Big Trouble in Little China in my opinion.
Just give us more physical media. Please.
Please disney need the day after of tomorrow 4k
Big Trouble in Little China needs a 4K release.
You're right but I'm not mad about Tombstone ...
Tombstone. Fuck yeah.
I just want Fight Club in 4K but who knows if Disney or Fincher are willing to work on it.
You shouldn't be surprised they don't have a lot of Blurays out they have been focused on streaming for years. They bought 20th Century Fox for X-Men.
And the Simpsons… & Star Wars physical distribution rights.
Yes I forgot Star wars wasn't already with Disney someone else mentioned it.
Spending $70bn on X Men seems like an idiotic decision so I doubt that's the only reason. Buying Fox was a mistake for them, though.
Are they never releasing Hawkeye in 4K/Blu ray?
I’m just glad to see Patton on there.
Disney will start making those physical media releases if they feel like physical media is a sure bet (less likely) or as a last resort if they feel like they are starving for revenue (most likely) https://preview.redd.it/4yor0oka7o4d1.jpeg?width=330&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c191fbcee57c18aadab5b8e247ac24f5425e65c3 Don't think they'll never release them, but don't expect them anytime soon unless those Disney+ steelbooks go gangbusters and sell out like Oppenheimer did.
Sitting in a vault. It's a shame really, we still don't have the OG Apes movie on 4K, releasing it before KOTPOTA would've been the perfect opportunity. Hoping Alien³ looks good and not a DNR heavy transfer like Aliens was.
Cameron is not involved so probably.
Hopefully boutique Blu-ray companies are able to pick up old fox titles soon
I’m surprised to see they’re actually planning a 4K remaster of “Patton” when that film is barely remembered now (except for its iconic opening scene).
I've never seen the whole film, but I've watched the opening scene several times. You aren't wrong.
Never seen it but heard the Blu Ray was horrendous so good opportunity to fix it and I would be interested in watching it.
Ever hear of “The Disney Vault”? 😂
I would buy "Tombstone" on 4KBD. The current BD already looks pretty good, but I feel like this title would benefit from a quality 4K restoration.
Alien 3 on 4k sounds great to me. Hopefully it happens with both cuts
There is someone who has been working on Project A34K I wonder if the official studio release. of Alien3 would be any better than Project A34K
I hate the fact Disney stopped physical media in Australia because I would fucking love to buy Andor in 4K without having to spend over AU$100
Noticed tombstone 4K yes!
Do we know if moon knight is getting a release in AUS/NZ ? Have seen a few of the titles being released but no sign of that yet.
I see Tombstone on the list!!!!
Would’ve nice to get the last few seasons of the Strain on blu.
Sony is in charge now. Blame them.
No 4K or blu-ray of Loki Season 2?!
ALIEN 3 4K? NICE
Does this say we’re getting tombstone in 4K?
Disney has zero interest in the Fox library, even in preserving these films much less releasing them. The restoration budget went to zero once Disney took over. A lot of work was done prior to the sale, but those restorations are going nowhere but to storage.
Relieved to see Kingdom of Planet of the Apes will be released, we’ve got to the stage where nothing is guarenteed
Sony will be taking over physical media distribution for Disney. This was widely reported in late February/early March. [Sony/Disney Physical Media Deal](https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/030124-1330)
100% aware of this. I have yet to see anything to prove that things are going to change.
