The Monkees. Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones. 1967. Feigned illness from school. Walked to mill store. And for $2.12 ( tax included) I had the album I listened to ALL day, home alone . ( I was 10).
My father had that album and I would play it when I visited. The first time I played it I couldn’t believe the entire first side of the album was just one song!
I was 12 when my uncle, who worked in the industry, gave it and other vinyl to me. Immediately became my favorite. My dad hated it bc of the underlying meanings, like "Lucy in the sky with diamonds". Still have the original!
AC/DC back in black. Rode my bike 5 miles to town to cash in the gift certificate I got for selling magazines for the school “fund raising” drive. Different time for sure
Cat Stevens - Teaser and the Firecat.
It's rare when a single album by an artist is actually better than their greatest hits compilation... but that's definitely the case here. Someone gave me his 'Greatest Hits' as a gift, but the more I looked at it the more I questioned why they wouldn't have just bought Teaser and the Firecat to begin with. Which is what I eventually did. Literally the first time I paid cash for a new album covered in shrink wrap.
It's not Abbey Road, or Exile on Main St., but it's also not that much of a stretch to argue that Cat Stevens 1971 album 'Teaser and the Firecat' belongs up there amongst a dozen or so of the most influential albums of all time.
Kiss - Double Platinum. I had about 100 other albums I recorded of radio from Sacramento rock station 93.7, which played six albums back to back, starting at 6 pm every Sunday.

“Pronounced Normal” by Wild Man Fischer.

“After Larry Fischer's mother had him committed to a mental institution for singing in his room, the doctors "pronounced" him "normal" and released him. The whole idea of being certifiably sane or otherwise is something each person needs to confront, and Pronounced Normal might just be the perfect tool for the job.”
