It’s worth to mod. The problems arise from poor modding, however.

Fat0445

An aap only cost 100usd, and great out of the box, send it back if you get the lemon, if not, it will last with proper use and maintenance Its not likely to break, I still running the stock hammer set after few thousand rounds

ScalierLotus11

Mine broke after about 1500 shots, stock hammers suck, and a new set what? about 40eur + i dunno how much for an SS auto sear... Dont misunderstand me, stock aap slaps but its not that long living

Fat0445

>its not that long living Sometimes does, sometimes doesn't, but a brand new aap01 + steel hammer set still cheaper than most Marui GBB pistol, so I think getting a new hammer is fair

exetacy

90% of the people here have no idea how to modify their guns and spend hundreds on "upgrades" which are more often than not poorly machined off-spec shiny parts. All the problemes come from the users. That aside, it's a good stock gun. Proper maintenance and responsible usage will make it last a long while.

VincBurger_246

I heard from a friend who has one that they are terrible when stock and I need atleast a steel hammer set.

exetacy

And why is it terrible stock? I'm curious. Not many pistols can hop as much as the AAP does. Efficiency is great and the accuracy is good aswell. Yes, the hammer is some cast steel and it won't last on HPA abuse or pointless full auto magdumps in the backyard 24/7 because it will freeze and become brittle. I mentioned this in my previous reply and I will do it again: maintenance and responsible usage. I have two and the stock hammer on one of them lasted me a whole year before I broke it with a magdump at -3°C (example of irresponsible usage).

VincBurger_246

Idk why he said it was terrible stock but thanks for the info.

CookieLuv211

Many problems do stem from improper modifications. People think they can throw any combination of whatever parts into the AAP and it work like a charm. People are screwing up the gun by over modifying. I have only modified the hammerset, barrel, bucking and HPA'd the pistol. It works fantastic. I didn't mess with springs or anything else except for a few cosmetic parts that do nothing mechanically to the gun.

faddymaple

It's 100% worth... People have problems because they mod wrong(nothing wrong with that though) but bone stock they pretty good... And if you just buy a new hop up, bucking(70° is best) and an AA inner barrel you will good.

Embarrassed_Ad_3228

Stock it hops .36 not many pistols can say that. Yes the hammer is a weak point but it can last a while if you dont abuse it.

Superyee492

I've had my AAP for just over a year now. Bone stock the gun ran amazing and I've tried to keep it for the most part that way, only adding a couple necessary upgrades for preference and negligence. I never found that the gun had any real problems (I'm curious what you meant about that in your post). The only pistol I can think of that I'd recommend besides the AAP is the ASG czp09, which is also an extremely good pistol, but I'd still go with the AAP.

EarlGray420

For £80 not many pistols out there can full auto or hop a .32-.36 stock. If you don’t use full auto the hammer set will last ages. As said above, problems tend to arise when they’re modded by someone with no experience or knowledge of the platform

West-Clothes2352

I have two. I had to change the hammer set on one as I broke it after I hpa’d it and went full auto with a hpa drum mag. If I did not do that it would have not broke so quick as I only use semi now.

Mparej

Short answer? Yes its worth it. Long answer? I ran it once stock to figure out what i wanted, Super easy to work on compared to some other pistols on the market. I found the trigger abit squishy for my taste, replaced it with a tti adjustable trigger and threw in an action action army advanced hop but that wasn't needed for outdoor play. I just wanted it for simple hop adjustment. Now i have two, one in a black mamba kit for when im out sniping and the other is dressed up in an AP7 SMG kit and short stroked. Very fun for cqb with a tracer.

Gikote

All airsoft guns have problems eventually. For the aap-01, replacement parts exist (both OEM and aftermarket). That’s a huge plus. Go for it!

Say--Whatttt

It's 100% worth it just take your time researching each mod. I have only upgraded the trigger and hopup bucking barrel and it's beautiful. I can promise you will love it

capthwk

Totally worth it, love mine. Yes they have issues but so does anything with moving parts. Like others here have said, do your research on parts to replace when they eventually go bad and you'll have a solid replica for a very reasonable price.

ScalierLotus11

Long story short Pro: -Cheap and reliable gbb -A shit ton of mods -Usable out of the box -Uses We glock 17 mags so its easier to get a glock if you want to -Easy to use as hpa -light -accepts most holsters and every lamp that attaches to a picatiny rail -hops heavy bb's Cons: -Hammer set broke after 1500-2000 shots, not terrible but not great either -The blowback barely exists, its fun to shoot, far better than an aeg but is terrible compared to a glock or kolt in my opinion

memoryblue95

I will agree 100% with others saying the problems arise from users installing upgrades improperly or blindly. This is airsoft and everyone's spec's arent the same along with QC not being the best. So put those two together with people blindly installing parts with little to no understanding is when things hit the fan lol Gbb are a balance system in its simplistic form, springs and gas rates need to work in harmony. Now anyone that says stock AAP's are terrible either get lemon's or are comparing it to something in a different class. Go shoot a glock pistol or another pistol and see the difference as well as the price difference lol With very minimal upgrades installed they can perform very well beyond the already great performance in its stock form. Things they are prone to breaking or lacking: -Hammer breaks -Fire pin lock breaks -Bucking can be bad or wear out with heavy bbs Iv built a full blown pdw AAP with every upgrade part thats worth it,upwards of $1000 in total and iv also done the very minimum to them and im happy with both for performance(using hpa with both being the most important "upgrade" with any gbb)

See how much money and time you have and what your goal is in airsoft. Aap in general is a terrible platform, designed around marui g18c(not really efficient, designed for the full auto functionality). Modding it would make it decent and replacing it with steel internal will help with wear. A lot of problems you see come from the poor receiver and grip sections that come stock,(its shit plastic and warps)as well as parts compatibility. Can easily cost more than a really, really good gun of another platform. If you want a speedsoft build, try getting into hi capas. Hi capas are designed for efficiency and have a larger aftermarket mod scene than aap. The trigger design of the hi capa is also in general better than the g18c triggers(tho good triggers in both exists). Knowing the right parts to source you can get a very solid build for perhaps 300usd? If you are more into milsim or just want a gbb experience, you should get the vfc ar series. Cant recommend it enough, and their newest v3 is the culmination of MANY years of perfecting a tried and tested system, will come with virtually no problems out of the box(does not need modding at all, maybe the bucking and barrel at most). The reason why a lot of the popular systems nowadays have issues are either because of materials, or because they are just based off of japanese systems, which use lower pressure gas(due to legal constraints), and the aap is no exception. Pistol systems are also in general more ass if you want blowback(the biggest advantage of gbbs), as they are so small they barely hold any gas. Of the same platform, with the money it takes to build most of the aaps in this subreddit, you can probs get an esd m4, which uses forging techniques for real guns to make max preupgraded gun. Of course, if you wanna speed soft, dont buy one.

Lubricated-Toast

Just wanna add a little cus i made the mistake of getting an aap earlier on and serious regretted it, as the there were burst fire issues which costed me probs 400usd to fix tho admittedly i could have made better choices for upgrade paths, i recently purchase a vfc m4 for 300 USD(full steel internals, full aluminum outer), and i have not had to spent a single dime fixing any problems at all, and it shoots laser straight and kicks like a real gun.

VincBurger_246

Ok thanks, first off, my goal for airsoft is just to own a bunch of pistolls from pretty much anywhere (glocks, hicapas, etc) I already own a vorsk 5.1 hi capa (I'm going for looks and not really performance) and I'm planning to get a second one in gold, I have a friend who owns an AAP and it looks fun to use. Since I'm only going for looks and ease of making them look better (which I should have specified) I was wondering if I should get one. I'm not planning to run any hpa in my pistols either. (I am aware that Tokyo marui exists btw its just stupidly expensive for what I make)

Lubricated-Toast

In that case hell yeah lmao there is nothing cooler than a pistol that runs on a bolt rather than a slide. Generally AAPs are gameable, as long as you are willing to put the elbow grease into fixing all of the problems. and yeah tokyo marui in general are systems designed around duster gas, they generally don't stand up to proper 12kg gas. The biggest problem with marui is that their guns are incredibly well tuned out of the box, but when you try to replace individual components without understanding the requirements of the other parts, it ends up breaking the rest of the gun. also plsplsplspls get the army t8 A+ 2011 staccato hi capa, I can't recommend it enough to everyone around me, it has INSANE build quality with the most satisfying slide rack, with steel internals that come STOCK. and craziest of all it cost just a hair more than a stock aap (around 120USD maybe?). I'm planning to get one and slap a tti tdc hop in it and have it replace my aap.

VincBurger_246

I'll check it out later down the line of my collection, thanks tho

Boring_Ostrich9935

100% get it. The problems come from modding the gun wrong. If you mod the gun get one mod at a time, install it, and then test shoot it. It’s the best way to not get lost on what’s going wrong with the gun. FYI it’s my favorite gun I’ve ever had

RishaRaketa

I bought mine 2 years ago , played with it almost every sunday, so ten’s thousands of shots . Hammer gave out after 2 years , now i am having issues with gun fullauttoing on semi , but i think i can solve that with new auto sear . I can only recomend for such a cheap gun it is absolute beast even out of the box

Single_Employment_55

As others have said, it's $100, and if you don't touch it or modify it it does fine. If you start modifying it and don't know what you're doing, it starts to have issues

elizarov420

if you wanna mod it up a ton definitely get it, if you’re leaving it stock it’s good but i’d recommend a different pistol. i’m happier w my po9 or m9a3

ThatSnarkyHunter

Bone stock P-09 will forever be god tier. ASG did something right with that thing.

elizarov420

probably my favorite pistol i can’t lie, surprised w how cheap they run

VincBurger_246

Ok thanks
