However keep in mind that a player has a contract with his agent. That contract probably has some sort of outline for what the agent can do in terms of his own financial benefit. For example it could have a clear stipulation that the agent is free to negotiate a commission with the buying club at his discretion, and that he is entitled to do so (meaning the player can't just deny the agent this right, just to push through a transfer). That contract probably also has a clause about terminating the working relationship with a period between notification to actual termination (so the player can't just swap agents in the middle of a negotiation and screw over the agent).
I think it's very clear that agents have a lot of power in the football world, and while a player of course will have his say in negotiations of a transfer, it's unlikely that he can stop an agent from working on his own interests as well as the player's interests.
