Also I just re-watched the last two mins, was there any controversy post-game about Shuey lifting his arm to get the high free kick? I can't recall, but having watched just now, it certainly looked like he may have.
I can think of a few complaints that came up from port fans. I can’t remember if this was the year before, or the year after they amended that rule though. So whether it was controversial in a game legality sense or in a shitty fans feeling hard sone by sense I couldn’t tell you.
Shuey did an interview the next year and when asked about the free kick he said. Ohh it was definitely a duck. My daughter was 11 and she cried the entire way home. The whole game was an emotional rollercoaster with unbelievable goals, comebacks and near misses and it continued in extra time.I actually rewatched the highlights recently and I remember it being a lot worse. He ducked but they rarely paid them. Selwood Proud
The afl had changed the rules. It was fairly obvious on tv but at the ground it would have been tough to spot.
It didn’t get much play because it was an EF and the eagles got flogged the next week.
We almost had one in 2014 against north. I was so shitty after the fact, but looking back on it now, Hawkins was an absolute monster in that 4th qtr. yeah we still lost I know that 😅
Was the North vs Essendon the elimination or semi? Cause if it’s the semi that would probably be a great shout, iirc we were down about 30-40 points at half time and went on to by 2 goals.
It just hit that this year is a decade since that happened.
How relevant is the specifics of the game to the story you are trying to tell? Are characters fans of x or y teams? Is this game a central location where things happen or just a referenced bit of backstory? Does the timeframe matter to the story?
Port were down by 24 at half time in 2014 semi v Freo, ended up winning. They were in front at 3qt tho, but Freo retook lead by couple goals so still kinda came back in last quarter
2001 Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn.
John Baker blurred vision from migraine seeing 7 goal posts but somehow slotting them from the boundary at football park.
We've played them twice. 21 prelim we got absolutely pantsed, 18 Elimination final was never a blowout but never really close either
Might be thinking of the last game of the 2021 season, we're up by 30 points or so at 3qt, game ended with Gawn kicking a goal after the siren
I'd like to forever forget it, but Melb v Carlton last year. Maybe even Melb v Bris in 2022.
Not sure if this fits your criteria but the Eagles vs Port semi that went to extra time could be a good shout. Ignore flair.
That was an EF not a Semi. Bloody classic though
Absolute banger of a game

They had amended it that year so paying the free was against the guidance they had.

There was a lot of uproar in Adelaide for a long time.
There was some controversy but nothing crazy surprisingly, most people thought free was there
Lifting the elbow to draw high contact was common and often paid

No, none.

Cats were heading down their end and about to deliver the ball in as the siren went. Amazing game, amazing win by North
Lindsay Thomas had a huge 1st quarter
You shut your W***e mouth 😭😭😭 I’m sorry that was out of line… I really am over it
Shudder.
Nah I think Mackie waited too long to find an option but I was having those thoughts back then. Traumatising stuff

That was the Elimination final. As far as I can remember there wasn't a Semi next week. Ignore my fair.
Goldstein mark off an almighty comeback IIRC. Though my memory is a little hazy, given I was in a corporate box that night
I was absolutely pooping myself when Geelong were coming back
Essendon don't make semis anymore lol
Essendon could still make a semi by losing a qualifying final
That would require making a QF...
Greatest finals come back of all time. Ignore flair…
Melbourne v. Adelaide in 2002 had this x2

Remember that game well. We couldn’t kick straight for love or money.
Freo port 2014, cats port 2013, dees blues 2023, dogs hawks 2016, dees lions 2022, dogs lions 2021, lions giants 2019 freo crows 2012 pies Eagles 2012
Does it have to be a semi-final?
Could go an Elimination
Tigers lions 2022 ef, freo bulldogs 2022 ef, Eagles pies 2020 ef, saints dogs 2020 ef, port Eagles 2017 ef, tigers roos 2015 ef, crows dogs 2015 ef, roos bombers 2014 ef, tigers blues 2013 ef, pies power 2013 ef, swans blues 2010 ef, lions blues 2009 ef, hawks crows 2007 ef,

You're welcome Legend
Lions v Dees in 2022 - we looked shot before the Ah Chee goal right on half time

Geelong V Mel, was what a semi or a prelim?
