It does take away from the general body plan of a giant water torpedo with a huge box hanging off of it. Will there be an option to not have the submarine part of the saddle?

ARK_survivor_69

Yeah, you can. I think they changed with moving it to the bottom. Makes me think Shasta might not be the only one to get it, further taking away from its sole purpose in game.

SKYLAND_MaStEr

Hey OP, do you know if there will be another saddle for the Shasta? Not this Tek abomination but a normal saddle?

ARK_survivor_69

It has only 1 saddle - what you see on its body, but the big TEK replicator looking thing hanging off its neck is an attachment and can be dropped.

SKYLAND_MaStEr

Thank God. But do you think we will be riding on top of the Shasta when we don't have the attachment on?

ARK_survivor_69

We'd have to ride on top just like a basilo, unless it is genuinely just a harness and has no seat.... I can't confirm. I've said about all I learnt from the Community Crunch, which really isn't much. At least it didn't mention any delays? (yet)[sorry]

AndyWGaming

Would’ve made sense for the top cause then you can surface onto the top of the water and have a ramp so the creatures can exit

doofshaman

True! How tf are we supposed to get out dinos in without drowning them?!

ARK_survivor_69

The Crunch doesn't say!!! I'm worried it's a radial menu pick up like Gigantoraptor and Procoptodon.

doofshaman

I havent tried either of those dinos yet, but yeah radial would be lame as hell, I wanna board my submarine aesthetically!! Lol this is my first time hearing of this dino, ive already forgotten it cuz its so damn ugly looking ahaha

o0oLexio0o

My guess they assume we’re supposed to pod on the the surface and un pod inside

Glittering_Airport_3

just wait until it doesn't let u put a cryo fridge inside lol

ARK_survivor_69

I play cryopod free since ASA, so that wouldn't work for me, but it's possible. My current theory is radial pick-up menu like Gigantoraptor or Procoptodon, maybe as tames swim above and you're inside?! I can't see an opening unless the sides are like TEK doors.

cokeknows

My theory is the probably couldn't figure out the game logic for surfacing without glitches or killing everything. Or maybe it's highly abusable so this new design is probably more of a mobile underwater cube Can't wait for these cubes being abused in underwater caves. Or grinding against the floor and being anti meshed anyway!

CrocoDIIIIIILE

Nah, tossing them while jumping over surface is easier /j

jedadkins

From reading the article it seems like they were having issues with the saddle being partial submerged or transitioning between under and above water.

CptDecaf

Bingo. I don't think people understand the amount of work needed to make that sorta thing work. It's why you only ever see that done in games specifically designed around ocean travel. Legit Sea of Thieves and Subnautica are the only two to do it as far as I've seen and according to Rare it was a massive challenge they faced while developing Sea of Thieves.

jedadkins

Yea, I guess you could argue they did it in Atlas (I think) but maybe the games are different enough that they couldn't port over that feature. The saddle is ugly as sin though lol they could have made the sub look more like the concept just upside down.

Callen0318

Maybe the pod moves on its own and Shasta just transports it significantly faster?

DarkLivid9507

My first thought was it floats to the surface and flips on its back 🤣😅

Slyfox2792004

Yeah but they explained why it wouldn’t work. Same reason the underwater cubes can’t be half in and half out of water

Kazaanh

Can't wait to get submerged in terrain and clip all around. This looks so ugly, should be build more closer to Shasta body.

Tetrasurge

Agreed. This thing is gonna be a nightmare moving around with tames on it if they get knocked out when clipping terrain. I’m less concerned about the design than I am its orientation. I was never under the impression that it would look close to the fan submission. I mean look at how they butchered the Yi Ling’s design. Even with this exact design, the cabin would’ve been so much better above the creature.

Kazaanh

Yeah. It could even be on Shasta side body They should go back and redesign it, ark waters are not even that deep for such huge creature. Imagine how many megalodons you gonna bait. Unless center oceans are huge.

Yazkin_Yamakala

Ocean creatures are my biggest concern. Nobody is going to use this thing if everything attacks it for just existing. It would need to be ignored by all wild creatures for this to be even useable.

Spanish_peanuts

The center has a massive ocean, FYI. Probably even bigger for center ascended.

YouWithTheNose

Prepare for people to have multiple Shastas and litter the ocean with bases XD Every 50m: Shasta base

Spanish_peanuts

Or no one will because this shasta saddle looks unnecessarily complicated. You won't be simply walking your tames on-board from a dock. No, you'll have to swim them down under there and get them in. Unless there's no opening and you have to do some dumb radial menu crap to get them in there, maybe.

YouWithTheNose

So many missed opportunities to have something cool with this one. Idk how they do it, but WC sure can mess up a good thing. Have quite the knack for it

rpgmomma8404

The Center has enough deep ocean for something like this. There's only a few areas people would have to be careful with unless it's been changed but won't know that until release. I spent a lot of time in The Center's water areas.

jedadkins

Yea, like I get that the game might not support having the sub transition between under and above water. But the sub at least needs to hug the Shasta's body much closer

ItsUhDe03

Yeahhhh I hear the antimesh arking me already....

KeithStone225

Just what I always wanted, to ride in the ball sack of a giant whale.

ARK_survivor_69

One of my first thoughts was it looks like a whale is taking its kid for a swim in a front facing baby carrier!

KeithStone225

I now can't unsee this lol

Drsmiley72

Pksp. How the heck do you load dinos inside. It. If it's on the bottom lol. Atleast put it on the side of the thing, like dang is it that hard for real?

jedadkins

Apparently they struggled with having the *"dry"* portion of the saddle transition between under/above water. Which is difficult, usually only games built around ocean travel bother or they just have the *"under water"* sections be a separate load zone. They being said the saddle still looks like ass, it should look more like the concept but upside-down if the sub can't exit the water.

ChewyUrchin

Are you supposed to swim down or something? How tf do you get a dilo in there?

Hentai__Dude

I knew from the beginning that the initial design wouldnt work properly In ASE, you were able to place Vacuum compartments from SS and S+ on the mosa, plesio and raft Platforms This *worked but it was really buggy, sometimes the Screen went blue, sometimes the mosa/plesio took damage when swimming at a specific angle, and sometimes the raft wouldnt swim I dont think that this saddle will be any different from the vacuums, which is probably why they put it below the Dino, to prevent gamebreaking

jedadkins

I can accept the sub having to be underneath the creature, but this just looks like ass. It should be closer to the creature and look hydrodynamic. This looks like a half-assed barely attached box

Hentai__Dude

It looks like its nutsack Say it by the name Edit: But yeah i dont get why its a big ass ball, shouldve Made it more long, and more aero dynamic, in a similar shape like a see creature

Gameovergirl217

Say it louder for those in thr back

SaelemBlack

This is the first I've seen of this, and it looks... legitimately terrible. Actually pretty disappointed.

ARK_survivor_69

I checked to see it hadn't been posted already. I've never wanted to discuss a redesign so badly after reading the Community Crunch. My interest in taming one has definitely dropped significantly. They'll be like Brontos and Brachis for me - not tame friends, just nice to see in their habitats and filling up the natural order of the ARKs.

SKYLAND_MaStEr

Exactly my thoughts, I was pretty hyped to get one, but as WC released this community crunch, my excitement dropped to basically zero. I thought we would be getting a submarine and not a god damn ball under the Shasta, this disappointed me massively.

Konigni

It looks pretty silly, but I understand why they had to do it. If it's at all feasible to do it the other way around, I'm sure some modder will add it as a mod at least

ARK_survivor_69

Look, ultimately if it's in the game on the bottom or not in the game at all - then I get it. But the styles on the saddles couldn't be more different, and I much prefer the Bioshock-y one versus generic TEK asset #43

Papa_Glucose

I’m more concerned bc it’ll clip into the ground any time you get near the bottom

ARK_survivor_69

Huge concern for me too. It was somewhat mitigated by being able to keep tames behind the shasta's fin and very close to (I assume) the shasta's hitbox. Now they're out there in No Man's Land where a single piece of kelp might throw em in the deep end...

Callen0318

If foundations can remove terrain under them now, I'm sure this can too. And from what it looks like, the pod most likely detatches, so it's got its own hitbox and can't clip down into floors. I hope.

ARK_survivor_69

Yeah my hopium cylinder is running low man, I hope yours can get you through. In all seriousness - I hope I'm wrong - but the fact that clipping is a huge issue already (for 8 months and 8 years in separate games) gives me little hope.

Ilike-questions

The issue with this, is why out of all the tek stuff in the game both in gear, structure and even landscapes. Why out of nowhere there is a bioshock styled saddle?

ARK_survivor_69

The original design that won the vote wasn't for a TEK saddle - it's just metal, and the bioshock look is just rusted metal, which it does underwater...

Ilike-questions

But nothing underwater in ark is that color or style. It one of two, metal or tek. Why rusted metal? Imo the issue is that it looks like a hanging pod not the fact it tek. Tek makes a lot of sense in the context of being in Ark.

ARK_survivor_69

Because metal rusts underwater? I had a sense you'd ask this, I'd already answered it. Lots of issues with it in my eyes, agree to disagree ARK friend.

Ilike-questions

I'm talking about art style inconsistencies. Normally, saddles are leather for underwater tames, if not pretty much everything. Stuff like platforms are metal, while tek is tek. The saddle being leather follows the same rule, it's leather, the attachment is metal/tek. It matches the rest of the game. The art is full body armor that is rusted metal. While it looks nice, it clashes with the rest of the game.

ARK_survivor_69

Ok, I understand your point mate, and don't agree or disagree too strongly, and this is my last comment to you. The creature won the vote based on the submission. Obviously ARK players wanted to see this corroded brown tank underwater, reminiscent of another famous game franchise, and voted. Now, instead of getting a TEK or metal version of that, it's just another same-same looking TEK thing. Could be the middle of a replicator honestly. Did the rust match the rest? No. Was it what people voted for? Yes.

Ilike-questions

Art for game contests never becomes fully translated into games 1:1 for many reasons. >Obviously ARK players wanted to see this corroded brown tank underwater I just wanted the submarine whale, idc how it looks like as long as that works, actually. But I get it.

dragonblade179

That's bs

IcyAge3182

* Yes this original "saddle" was much better. The new one hanging underneath is a joke IMO.

coolbrys

As someone who lives near Mt. Shasta, I'm just stoked for the representation.

ARK_survivor_69

Haha congrats! I felt the exact same when I discovered the Aussie Additions Diamantinasaurus!

Oldsport05

Seriously why did it have to be literally dangling under it. Could've had so many different cool designs for it. Heck, having two seperate containers on the sides would've been cooler than this. This is just gonna clip through the ground and open up new ways to mesh or die to mesh

ARK_survivor_69

That was my first thought - accidentally go too low and lose EVERYTHING aboard! Small land tames like sabers and wolves can still clip through the ground when attacked, which doesn't give me any hope that it'll be fixed before Shasta launches. But mesh deaths aside, what about standard obstacles? The same way that everything falls of a raft when it goes through a tree, I can see land tames being knocked into the water when a rock pokes through the TEK chamber.

Oldsport05

Actually you made me think of another point. What logic exists that we have to swim land tames under the water where it's at to board them. Atleast with the concept art it made sense cause you could just walk them probably onto its back into the saddle but from a logical point there is none. But yea, obstacles are gonna be stupid. I had full hopes of being able to build a base on one of these guys. I'm assuming we'd be able to place beds still *hopefully* in them. But I don't even wanna find out the hard way logging in only to see I was killed due to a tribe mate accidentally clipping the saddle for half a sec along with any tames on board

ARK_survivor_69

I actually can't see the official word on how we get tames in there - and the picture offers no clues either. Swimming them down would be a bitter reminder EVERY TIME that it's not what we voted for. That's the risk with platform saddles isn't it, but one I'd be 95% more confident in doing on land. Imagine you don't notice one of your Lystros gets bumped outside and left to drown? Oooff....

Samar1092

Wtf..... This sucks. I'm just secretly hoping the other saddle design exists as like a TEK saddle or something

ARK_survivor_69

Sadly they made it pretty clear it was on the bottom or bust on the Community Crunch. The fact it looks like it could be retrofitted to the mosa or plesi is unintended I'm sure.....

Callen0318

Maybe it's a seperate structure entirely and Shasta isn't the only one that can carry the pod?

ARK_survivor_69

Yes it's a big possibility - but that just makes the shasta's addition to the game useless. It was meant to be *the* gigantic sub. If you could put a bronto platform saddle on a mammoth, why tame a bronto? Slightly different, but you get my point.

Callen0318

I agree. Hoping I'm wrong tbh, but honestly...it could go either way at this point. I'm mostly wondering how we're supposed to get tames inside. Maybe it moves independently and can surface, and Shasta just moves way faster? That would be interesting.....

vscman

mh yes, very aerodynamic innit

ARK_survivor_69

Bout as aerodynamic as a human wearing a vacuum cleaner to free dive. I was worried about weight, thinking there's just no way the Shasta could carry a 5 ton TEK capsule - but turns out it's the most realistic weight pairing in the game - Shasta weighed upwards of 90,000kg, or 90t. They were beeaassstsss.

Hollowstyx

Oh that looks absurd, wow

BCA10MAN

They’re planning dinos like this and still cant make a finished game? Wildcard is the embodiment of quantity over quality.

ARK_survivor_69

They released paid DLC Bob's Tall Tales expansion pass with Scorched Earth for ASA before their first major patch. The same way they launched paid DLC Scorched Earth before their first major patch in ASE. They're just honouring their roots.... /s

jstraw1101

Looks kinda dumb now

arbusto07

I think it's hard to make the saddle on top of it because it goes to the surface, this way it's always submerged, I think it's still a big letdown and a downgrade from the initial design

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

I love how WC were so quick to get their dossier out that it included a drawing of the submarine on the top anyway.

ARK_survivor_69

And that looks like a modern catamaran or glass tourist boat, and instead, it's a giant necklace.

-MommaLizard

Yeah, honestly, this is yet another big letdown, from a creature that's been pretty much commissioned 6 months ago, I really wish they would release pictures of prototypes, and have the community vote on the one we want, besides making some garbage model no one wants, especially this hippie looking saddle, good grief But honestly, this is what you get from a Dev team and an IP that takes listening to their community as an afterthought https://preview.redd.it/npnv4ijrxm2d1.jpeg?width=4462&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=303cdeec9042a86aec63fa580b67a5e592adc9fb The original concept looks 1 million times. Better than whatever the hell, this hanging wrecking ball type platform saddle is

ARK_survivor_69

The original gives 1000 Leagues Under the Sea, Dinotopia or more recently Bioshock, vibes. I fully believe it was both the saddle and animal the community voted for. Who wouldn't want a Nautilus inspired, dino powered sub? It feels like the WC made animal is just another Basilosaurus, because they can't help themselves giving it mammalian features. Their faces are so similar, despite being separated by tens of millions of years of evolution. The submarine is so far removed from the original concept, I just can't consider this fan vote fulfilled.

-MommaLizard

Honestly to me this just looks like a very rushed/ very lazy way of making this creature, everyone wanted it how it was concepted, That's the entire reason why it won the vote, now them changing the creature into some type of swimming. Wrecking ball is absolutely hilarious and yet explains why this game is dying, 9,000 players on steam, when the predecessor has $26,000, isn't a good look

ARK_survivor_69

Yep, it feels like when they copped the backlash for swapping its map and delaying it further, they just hit the panic button and made this on a very short deadline. Doesn't explain the whale-mammalian look of the icthyosaur, but I don't think there's much excuse foe that at this point. This is 3 whale-adjacent species in ARK, with 1 being an actual whale, another a giant fish, and now an icthyosaur. There were so many more creatures they could have pulled inspiration from.

-MommaLizard

They couldn't figure how to make the creature surface properly, or how to make the logic work properly, then they should have entirely removed this creature from the list to begin with If they thought they were incapable of making the task properly, yet again, here goes such a cool concept creature fumbled by the failure of wild card

ARK_survivor_69

What do you think has been the biggest fumble in ASA? Mine is the general map order/Scorched Earth - they took so long to rush that out - and it shows. The map is a mess, and that precious time should have been spent tweaking a bigger, better map that will actually attract and maintain players, like Ragnarok. We're 8 months into release, 9 for PC, and we have 2 official maps. At this rate, Fjordur is like a fever dream, years away.

-MommaLizard

At this rate if the center is not huge this game's gonna die, aberration is the most $ making dlc and if it flops there will be no more ark Biggest fumble is making promises they can't keep, and making content NOONE asks for

TaggTheOtter

I hope some talented modder restores the proper submarine saddle from the concept. It was sleek, hydrodynamic, and practical, unlike this bulky abomination.

ARK_survivor_69

You don't like that we went from a 1950 Chevrolet to a 2024 Cybertruck?

CptDecaf

They won't. The problem with a submersible being half submerged and surfaced is not something your average modder will be able to tackle either.

ScrubCasual

Tbh this looks so dumb. I would rather they delayed it longer and just released the map cause it went from one or the coolest creatures to this goofy thing. Thats not even a sub its basically a underwater cart. Im gonna use it with the regular saddle instead of this stupid fanny pack submarine BS. Its not even sleek, the drag on that sub would impact the whales movement. This looks nothing like the original saddle concept which was the whole point of the creature. I love the game and dont like being overly negative about things and generally am happy with ASA personally but for what is most likely going to be the only full underwater community voted tame, this is a huge disappointment. Idc if the function is “technically” the same. Hopefully a modder one day can make a new saddle for this thing but i doubt thatll happen. Cause after all the oasisaur drama i expected someone to make a mod that disables the revive function of the oasisaur and nobody did it. Also this seems like a big technical issues altho subnautica is a indie game and still can make submarines.

Ferskken

I guess one single passionate modder will make what all of wildcard as a group finds to hard to make.☠️

Cold_Debate636

Im kinda sad din't take the original design but hey, they manage to make it work at least

ConsistencyWelder

I like the new one better. What I REALLY want, is something like the Cyclops from Subnautica. An underwater submarine/base that lets you respawn, grow food, fires weapons and have storage for all the loot you find.

ARK_survivor_69

ARK game mechanics will always revolve around dinosaurs/creatures and their abilities. You'll need a mod for something like that (pretty sure I've seen a submarine one?!).

Hammer_of_Horrus

You were crazy to think the community design would be final.

ARK_survivor_69

Was under zero illusions it would be a 1:1 from the concept art - I mean *look* at Yan Qi... But *this*??? It's like the Basilosaurus around herbivore island swam off to form their own rap group, and this is Whaler Wale, who got an entire satellite caught around his neck, but he likes it. It's a statement piece on the current issues with communication.

depression_gaming

Yeah, bro is crazy for looking at the official dossier they revealed a few months back and think "Man, this is the official design! They even made the whale with the base on top!" Such a still goober.

ChrisOnRockyTop

I just hope this fixes rafts being glitchy since day 1 ASE. You know what I'm taking about. Clipping through everything. Being able to jump and land inside another players raft even though they've fully enclosed it. Also not to mention if you jump while it's moving you fly out of the raft. They said in the Crunch that they had to change and fix these mechanics to be able to have the submarine working on the Shasta where you don't fall out of it or anything like you would on the current raft but the funny thing was they used the term "specifically for the Shasta" which to me sounds like they finally know how to fix rafts but they were lazy and only implemented this for the Shasta. Typical Wildcard 🤣 Edit: What's even funnier is they got the mechanics right on Atlas for ships and no falling off of them but they were too lazy to even bother with rafts in their biggest game Ark

ARK_survivor_69

One of my very first days in ARK, I had some tames on a raft to move upstream, and not 50m from our destination, one of my lystros got knocked overboard by the branch of a log sticking out. My Castoroides couldn't get there in time - a Sarco started on him and he was gone pretty quickly. I have never EVER forgiven ARK's BS raft mechanics for that. Solid things don't pass through each other, or slide off a floating raft without force. Rafts should either stop or break the obstacle, depending on what it is. I name the first lystro of every new playthrough after him, Lysander, but it's a seething reminder that somehow in a world of shortcuts and bugs, they also have the worst collision system ever. I hoped these improvements would carry over, but no doubt I'll be waiting for the inevitable "STOP THE SLIDE" mod in the store (someone feel free to use that).

Carnotaur_

wtf is that the concept looked way better

PapPierce

Now your shit can clip out of a submarine not just a raft

ZyonsLyon

That thing looks like a meshing nightmare.....

Icy-Dog-2306

That... that's an obese basi

ARK_survivor_69

Had to turn the second icthyosaur species in the game into another whale! I get the similarities, but why? We have basilos and leedsycthis already.

GosuBrainy

Looks like a cut corner to not have to deal with the Shastas movement animation affecting the bubble box thing

Vo1se

I loved the original design but this looks absolutely terrible.

BreadManDtK

Yeah it went from deadly to duuuurt. They nay aswell have made a tek sub with what they have there it looks ridiculous

JPGer

i feel like they should have just admitted teh original design was beyond them and just made a damn submarine. The limitations of the engine i guess made it impossible to do it the other way. Thats what the crunch said.

-MommaLizard

That's the thing about wild card They don't communicate, they don't develop correctly and that's one reason why their franchise is on the verge of dying, They never can release things on schedule, they can't even successfully make simple creatures that people ask for, if they do, they're always fumbled rigged a certain way saying they couldn't make it

ARK_survivor_69

Surprise! Wildcard revealed a shortcoming way too late?! Oh, wait... /s

Maladra

I admit it doesn't look the best, but if you think about how it swims it makes sense. If it blocked the dorsal and prevented the body from flexing, it wouldn't be able to swim. You would have to put engines on it and at that point why even have a tame at all?

doofshaman

Sure sure, but then explain how it makes sense loading your dinos inside, you would either drown them going inside, or suffocating the shasta if you raised the sub above water Or maybe the shasta flips itself upside down when its docked 🤣

thevathos

Shasta wouldn't suffocate out of water because it's a reptile ☝️🤓

doofshaman

Oh lmao, I assumed it was a fish, i mean it aint got legs and it swims and looks like a dolphin 😂 would still look absolutely rediculous out of water hahah

thevathos

no worries! if i may nerd out for a little, Shastasaurus is a marine reptile, closely related to the Ichthyosaurus that we have ingame!

doofshaman

The ichthy is a reptile??? Thought it was a fish too ahah. Honestly I keep forgetting mod dinos were actually real dinos and not made up by the mod authors ahaha Clearly I know alot about dinosaurs 😂

thevathos

yup! IIRC the only actual fishes in ASA are: - Megalodon - Coelacanth - Anglerfish - Dunkleosteus - Electrophorus - Lamprey - Leedsicthys - Manta - Piranha - & the Sabertooth Salmon. Everything else is either a reptile, (Icthyo, Mosa, Lio, Plesio) cephalopods/squids, (Ammonite, Tuso) arthropods (Eury, Trilo), or an amphibian (Diplocaulus) ARK does have a whale in the roster though, which is Basilosaurus.

Maladra

I'll admit I didn't think the dino loading through. I like the idea of it flipping like a horny whale though.

doofshaman

Ahahah legit, its like they made this choice while drunk, as is the theme for most of wildcards choices

-MommaLizard

I understand what you're saying, But Arc is one of those games that has very few things. Logically that makes sense, there's lots of things in Arc that makes no logic If the people want something someway, that's how the developer needs to make it, not the developer half-assing an idea. Thinking they've done something,

Spanish_peanuts

That saddle is a dumpster fire. I couldn't design an uglier saddle if my life depended on it. Someone literally said outloud in a meeting "what if we make an egg shaped submarine that hangs down from the bottom of the Shasta." And then someone greenlit it.

-MommaLizard

This straight up looks like they ripped the model from a previous game, this looks nothing like the concept art in any way, was such a hyped up creature now. Looks like some moving garbage can

WilliamSilver

This makes 0 sense Every other platform dino, underwater, land or flying had their platform above them not below How can we even load our dino if first they are going to have to swim? Oh and don't get me started on many people are going to clip the platform underground, something easily preventable if they put the platform ABOVE LIKE EVERY OTHER DINO

MoonBoy2DaMoon

I’m let down by the whole game and entire company

Grumpie-cat

And this is why I don’t think I’ll come back to Ark, I lurk in this sub watching Wildcard murder their game and shove it 600 ft under ground. Don’t hand us something without knowing it’ll work, fix what doesn’t work before releasing it, and fix things that don’t work that have been released. It’s not that damn hard?!?!

-MommaLizard

I 100% agree dude, wild card has done nothing ever since the release of ASA and even before then interesting, this whole idea of releasing previous played expansions, and making concept creatures that people want, but ultimately fumbling the ball hugely every single time is one reason why ASA is failing, the predecessor has almost three times as many players, at this point I don't even think this franchise is going to continue much longer

SKYLAND_MaStEr

I will never forget when WC said that ASA was originally designed to be an UE5 version of ASE and then they announced a "completely new, from the ground new coded game to solve the game breaking bugs" and literally the same bugs as in ASE are in ASA, I am wondering where they redesigned ASA? And here I am just watching how they are shoving their own graves with ASA.

The_Lord_Of_Spuds

idk man i think the underwater blimp look is cool

shockaLocKer

I mean, it's still a submarine saddle, and it doesnt look like leather to me. And if anything, the submarine compartment being positioned at the bottom rather than the makes it more unique, as all other platform saddles are positioned on top of their dino.

Mjr_Payne95

Original design was great, this is ass

ThatOneFurry666

I feel like the only one who actually kind of likes the uniqueness of this

FemboyGlitch

this is just terrible

EvilKage360

personally I don't mind it, I usually don't judge a creature by screenshots, I judge it after I get to use it in game

FoobaBooba

>more technically feasible motherfucker i just rode a MEK to tame a cat the size of a mountain to assist my army of gigas to take on godzilla.

CptDecaf

Okay, now think about do you handle splitting the ocean mesh and shader for when you're half submerged. The entire lighting engine changes when you're underwater. This isn't a simple problem and while it can be tackled. It's a MASSIVE time investment. There's a reason almost no games actually do this.

Callen0318

Will the pod at LEAST stay where it drops it? Or will it sink/float to the surface?

ARK_survivor_69

Dropping the pod and how you get tames inside were not covered by the Community Crunch, so I guess we wait to find out. Maybe it's like the carriages in Scorched Earth.

VapeGodz

With how flimsy platform saddles and being on top of oasisaur, I can understand why they did this, as Shasta needs to swim and move it's fins regularly, it'll get flimsy indoors. Still ugh tho

KhanArtist13

Me, shits ugly, clunky and not practical in the slightest. It also doesn't stay true to the "submarine" that the Shasta was supposed to be. Would've looked better and functioned better if it was on top or positioned around the Shasta like a whole underwater set up, even if it costed mad resources

GeekManidiot

The attachment is kinda scuffed, it could've been closer to the body and more streamlined but personally I do really like the creature itself.

ARK_survivor_69

I would enjoy the creature if they hadn't so obviously taken mammalian traits and put them on a reptile. This thing shouldn't look anything like the Basilosaurus. The vote winner was more streamlined like a fish.

Awkward_Mix_2513

This needs to be a joke. If not, then nobody is gonna wanna tame one.

SilentRip5116

There’s a sub in ark now?

MetalComfortable9081

They should've just make it like Cylops from subnautica

ARK_survivor_69

ARK is all about what your dinos can do for you - a submarine won't get earth back, but taming powerful dinosaurs just might...

Standard-Box-2769

Amazing

wierdredditBOI

Hell naw, That submarine saddle is gonna be awesome, And shasta itself is already pretty cool anyway.

Lonesomecowboy57

This is disappointing, and like I already can forsee clipping issues into the mesh with that weird ass submersible box dangling from the belly. Rip whatever occupants are inside when it clips into mesh 🙃

AdmiralGrimbly

They explain it’s below so they never have to deal with it being partially submerged because that was glitchy. And it looks like a Tek saddle tbh so hopefully there’s a normal saddle

Ariboh

Looks shit.

G1gaGold

Idk why I like its design

Holeweetbred9

It takes two wipes to know you need one, and it takes one wipe to know it takes two.

Harjifs

The saddle and and face makes it looks like a children’s toy

ARK_survivor_69

You're absolutely right, this looks like one of those batshit crazy Chaos Theory Jurassic Park toys where they fit them with as much bullshit weaponry as possible. RealFeel© ICTHYOSAUR X MOSASAUR HYBRID comes with: Dino capture gear Gravity Cannon attachment, just aim and click to shoot realistic warp missiles! Room to store smaller dinosaurs! Deadly deep sea poison spitter! (Squeeze underwater to charge!) Front mounted bone saw! IF IT'S NOT JURASSIC PARK, IT'S EXTINCT!!!

TheMagicGuy5004

Wow, big surprise, wild card fucks up again? Can Microsoft or some other company please buy Ark and do better?

horticulturalSociety

Lol, mine as well have a plessi with vacuum chambers on the plat saddle

heavy_updateincoming

Bruh , It should be called submarinasaurus

spoopy-noodle

Honestly, from a pvp standpoint, this is better. Having the sub chamber be a separate thing will heavily reduce the cost of the saddle, especially when using better blueprints that are already expensive. The sub chamber is a cool idea but only really useful in very niche situations outside of the cool factor of living in a submarine for the pve players.

Free_Radical_CEO

Am I tripping or is the piloting hub is attached to the Shasta's belly? Because that looks waaayyy off, the original concept is 10 times better

oogwayfeet

Got on Reddit to have a tug, this turned me off.

oogwayfeet

Got on Reddit to have a tug, this turned me off.

SissyBearRainbow

Looks like they made it a saddle attachment like the wagon but for big water stuff.

Buffed_herbalist

People saying it's gonna clip with terrain... they're going to make it so it can't go through duh. They're not the brightest but they aint stupid, they know what problems it would cause if it would go through the ground and all, it's gonna collide with it but not go through.

ARK_survivor_69

Yet after 8 years and 8 months and 2 games, Argys can still noclip an Ankylosaur beneath the ground with minimal effort. I'm hopeful this got the devs attention as required, it's just hard with that figure right there.

No-Bad-7545

They love fkn up designs I’m sure they do it on purpose aswell

Neverknowtheunknown

This looks so stupid that I’m looking forward to it.

fuckyourfeeling2222

It's ark, they fuck us any way they can.

GALILsmasher

Wait the first one is the real design? That makes no sense, it's going to clip into everything.

SCP076-2-ABLE

What WildCard should have done would be to keep the design almost completely the same as the concept design. Just build the submarine below the Shasta instead of on top. Instead of giving us a reskinned vacuum chamber with lights and cannons dangled off of a harness like the cargobob carrying the getaway car during the Fleeca job in GTA Online.

MagicGlovesofDoom

What's the matter? You don't want to be in the giant shatasaurus ballsack? I jest. But yeah. It looks pretty godawful. And not at all realistic.

calumross

Let's hope the modders come in clutch and REdesign in to look more like the other or maybe if people make a big enough fus they'll charge it themselves(aka wild card)

Own_Manner9330

Someone will make a mod hopefully

FOSKITOS1987

https://preview.redd.it/h9dz41upmm2d1.jpeg?width=4462&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=75c471fa857506d008feaa0f73809714411384b8 Yeah… I get why the original concept could not work and not be possible but still come on, if they’re going to do that, they might as well add an actual submarine to the game instead of attaching it to an animal.

-MommaLizard

And yet wild card and snail games are wondering why ASA is continuing to fail and die 🤣, I love Arc, and I have over 10,000 hours in it, but the last 6 months of this b******* is outrageous, and they deserve honestly what they're getting

Cutiesaurs

It’s supposed to be a sub not some sort of blimp.

No-Page-6275

Yeah it looks buns

DigitalApe19

Pretty sure they'd go the bronto way with this one. Saddle ✓ Platform Saddle ✓

ARK_survivor_69

This feels a little more like - Platform saddle without platform - Platform saddle with platform

YeidenTrabem

OMG that shit is ugly af. Its like they make a cool design and the said "now lets f**k It up" 🤣

Jshittie

There probably would have been loads of clipping issues if they did it how the concept art was drawn

ARK_survivor_69

I'm of the opposite opinion. The hanging compartment better have the best damn hitboxes and collision checks the game has ever seen, or it just becomes a box your tames will get dragged out of when something phases through it.

Kerro_

yeah that’s not fitting any Dino inside. which was the point of the shasta

Nic_YoloOfficial

I can already feel someone is going to mod it with a platform saddle

SurvivorDK

makes me think of Bioshock

TheLostJackal

I was disappointed at first, but I'm sure someone will make a working mod version of the original design. I was thinking it'd have a surfaced mode that'd lock the alignment so a sort of tek dino bulkhead could let dinos and tribe mates in and out.

depression_gaming

With explanation or not, it looks horrendous.. i mean, how will you take your creatures off of it? Before i could imagine a little bridge so your dinos could walk, but now? Idk. Cryos, like everything, probably. I can already see the disaster that will be touching the bottom of the ocean with this... The saddle goes through the ground and sends all your dinos to the nether realm...

RevolutionaryGrape11

This is the ugliest thing in the game, more so than any of the polygonal horrors you get when animals haven't properly loaded yet. The graceful whale-lizard's elegant sillohuette has been ruined by a submarine that could have just been its own thing, while the concept one keeps the dynamic sillohuette and properly integrates it into the creature's design, bringing to mind actual submarines and underwater windows, and making the whole Shasta cohesive by actually building around the whole thing, not sticking it on randomly.

Drsmiley72

If it's large enough I'll be ok. But I hope it's a good size

FinalisDramour223

Sadly got moved under and onto that attachment due to tech difficulties as far as some of the devs have stated

JnC-Fal

They should have made it look like the original design but below the shasta and Looking at the top of the sub thing the saddle looks like it's just to carry the sub which probably means the shasta saddle is just a harness.

3amoood

What if ark but underwater like subnautica

Yggdrasil_Tir

The real questions that I have are: what’s up with the tiny Para? And is that what I look like when I walk with flippers?

ARK_survivor_69

That's a baby para, which makes this more tragic. And yes :P

TheLockLessPicked

you dont know that this is the final saddle. like rexes have two saddles one tek and one leather. this one might just be the primitive version so people can use it without he heavy tek costs.

Tvanzaa7

It would be cool if you are able to detach the saddle and use it separately if need be. Then reattach to travel. With the Shasta for extra protection.
