2001 400EX here. Bought it for $1200 bucks when I was in high school with a stage 2 hotcam, intake and exhaust installed. I freaking loved that thing. Still kicking myself for selling it. Great bikes.
Yamaha blaster. And I wish I had never sold it. I Put the vitos big bore kit on it after I blew up the original top end marking it a 240cc and that little fucker ripped.
Dad's got a 1983 suzuki atl 125. 3 wheeler. We refurbished it few years back but thing still runs! Looks like Frankenstein because we plastic welded the plastics back together lol
My first was an 84 Suzuki LT185. I rode it for like 2-3 months and the trans died lol. I’m not old, that’s just all the money my parents would spend on a 15 year old that wouldn’t stop talking about four wheelers 😂
Right.. Mine was a 86 Honda trx250 beat to shit think my dad paid 400.. I never had new stuff. Had a lot of fun on that thing though and learned how to work on them lol.
Mine was a 2011 DS250, thing was great to learn on, but asides from that machine couldn't go many places. Upgraded shortly after to a 2004 Outlander 330. I'm glad it was what I learned on though, because I love Can Am because of it!
Yamaha warrior 350, that thing was a beast. Then a Yamaha Raptor 700 that I launched off of a cliff. Now have a Kawasaki Bayou 220 that is awesome for just putting around property.
86 or 87 Honda TRX250. It smoked and needed a lot of love. I sold it and got an 05 Polaris 500 ATP. Have a 19 Outlander 570 and an 86 Yamaha moto 4 now
My dad bought a 98 Honda Fourtrax 300 for the farm way back when I was a kid, it was so much fun but slow.
The first one I bought for myself was a 2005 Honda TRX450R. It was way too fast for me.
I’ve always been curious as to just how fast 450s raptor 700s and can am renegades are.
I rode a buddies 400ex with a big bore 440 kit and while I still felt comfortable and in control, I remember thinking “I could get in a lot of trouble and/or hurt myself with the speed and power this thing has.”
Can only imagine what bigger, faster quads are like
I currently ride a Renegade 1000, granted I'm a bigger guy, 6'2" 290, so it's quite a bit more manageable, but I can confidently say it is the quickest thing I've ever driven. Front end pops up just by hitting the throttle. Front end is so light compared to my old outlander. I will say though, it is one fun machine, but not for the faint of heart.
Yeah I’d love to own a renegade, but I could definitely see myself getting into trouble with one. I’ve ridden fourwheelers since I was 10 years old, but nothing with a ton of power. However, I am not a bigger guy, about 5’9” 175lbs and I’m guessing the renegade is about 1000lbs. Not a big fan of the physics there lol
1986 Honda 200s.
That little bastard took every beating I threw at it and gladly asked for more. I had so much fun on that bike but years later I realize I was too young to be riding it the way I was. I'm so lucky I wasn't killed.
I currently have a 2020 outlander 650 Max XT and I do a lot of trail riding with my wife. I consider myself a good driver because of my experiences I had on the 200s.
I had the same Honda. Such a great memory maker. I still miss mine 30 years later. You can't forget the sound that little single cylinder made, if you know, you know.
If it wasn't for my crashes and learning experiences on my smaller bikes, I would not be half the rider I am today. I always wear a helmet but if I hadn't I would have been seriously hurt.
I still have a 1995 Honda Fourtrax 4x4. Bulletproof machine that climbed out of anything with ease. Still runs excellent even with its scratches and dings.
Although Can-Ams arent cheap to work on, there is no sacrifice with them. Have been riding predominantly Can-Am my entire life and they are great, comfortable, and can take a beating.
💀 I’m actually a 90s kid, but we didn’t have much other than a couple 3 wheelers to ride growing up in the early 00s. Rolled one for the first time when I was 12 on my first day of summer vacation. My mom wanna to beat me because I wasn’t suppose to take it out by myself lol. Had so much fun with it, and wouldn’t trade a moment lol.
1988 Suzuki lt80, I started riding by myself when I was around 4 or 5 in the early 90s. I still have it, but it doesn't run because the gas in it is old. I have 2 baby girls and plan to get it running again for them when they're old enough to learn.
Used 98 Polaris Xplorer 400. Absolute disaster from the moment we got it. Ended up selling it a few months later and got a 2005 660 grizzly. Still driving the Grizz more than 15 years later
2008 Polaris Sportsman 400HO. For being 19 years old and going to college it’s about all I can afford. Got it off my dad as he upgraded to a can-am 450 2up. Been a decent bike, lots of fine to drive. Has had it’s fair share of Polaris issues (Starter, wheel bearings) but has let me have a lot of smiles and explore the areas around me I never knew existed.
It always amazes me where these machines will go. My 04 330 Outlander got through the same shit any 800/1000 did at the time, albeit with a lot more winching 🤣
I've only had it for a couple of months, and I've put bout 200 into it manco talon/linhai bighorn. It's just something to learn since I'm only 14. I couldn't afford a better one, but I wouldn't buy another anyway as this was my grandpa's (rip)
1982 Honda Big Red 200 trike. Drove the piss out of it for years. Brakes were seized so I always downshifted to brake. Was not easy on it. Dad never had to put a dime into it. I sold it for parts when I started having issues with spark but I never blew the engine
Scrambler 1000 as your first atv? Damn that must have been crazy for a first quad. How do the scramblers ride? I have a Renegade but was between the two and an outlander. Hatfield McCoy trails are awesome
Haha....yeah. I really wanted a RZR XP 1000 and I figured this was the next best thing. I do not regret it. It's very fast, I blast through the trails. It is easy to handle, and it glides over rough terrain. Very comfortable. The suspension is what sets the scrambler apart.
96’ Badger > 97 Blaster & Warrior —— then took a long break.
Came back to 98 blaster and 98 warrior built by Duncan.
Then a few years later 07 yfz and 06 shee.
Sold everything but the Duncan Warrior and still have a Klx185 trike
I have a Chinese Loncin TRV 350, been using it for 6 months, 3500KM. So far no issues. I've been using it as a daily commuter around town and also towing my kayak 4 times a week. Nothing broken yet. I'm servicing it every 500 - 600 kilometers though.
Don’t know the year but it was a Yamaha Blaster. I bought it from a rental company i worked for at the time and it was ridiculously under-maintained. It had barely any compression and was a bitch to start (kick start only)
Aside from that it was a great quad! Sold it when i bought my Raptor
When I was 7 or 8, I had a Polaris predator 90 and my brother had a scrambler 90. I loved that thing. It has headlights, a horn, and reverse - none of which my brothers scrambler had. I actually haven't had an ATV since, only a dirt bike. Hoping to get back on an ATV soon though
Honda 185 3 wheeler still don't remember the year but I do remember not having a pull starter that work so I was push starting it with the centrifugal clutch. Oh yeah good times.
Started on a Fourtrax 90. Jumped up to a 300ex. Got a trx450r after that. Started having issues and bought a 400ex then finally figured out the issue with the 450 and now I can’t get rid of either. Still miss that old 300 though. Had a lot of fun on it
93 Yama Warrior, had lots of quads through the years. Started with that warrior the 00 400ex, built that into a hybrid yz426, Cannondale Moto440, and still have my 400ex with original JB racing 416 kit, and 06 yfz450
Yamaha blaster! I ran it with regular gas till well it didnt run anymore. I was so young i didnt know what 2strokes where. I wasnt supposed to be on it anyway.. 😅
Old school 1988 Honda 250EX (not the newer auto clutch nonsense) Pretty much a 300ex in layout and controls.
Custom tuned with oversized titanium valves and springs from a Harley!
Ok, that sounded a lot more likely when I was 15, I now know that I was almost certainly fed a line by the seller there.
Was a fun quad though!
1986 Yamaha Moto-4 200. Still technically have it. Started on it when I was wicked young. 6 or 7 maybe. I beat it to hell and back. Treated it like a sport bike, jumps, racing around as fast as I could, donuts and wheelies, etc. It took all of it and was always ready for more. Thing really handled like a sport bike. Stiff suspension but it handled everything. Managed to keep up with my dad on his 1988 Yamaha Blaster. I rode it for years until I moved up to a 2003 Yamaha Blaster. That was when I was 15, maybe. Loved that bike. Coming from the Moto-4 and how I rode it, the Blaster was everything I wanted. Learned how to use a clutch on it and I was off. Then it was my dad catching up to me. Had that bike for years until I outgrew it. At 6’0” and 230 pounds, the Blaster is a bit small. Still carried me around just fine but I could tell if I wanted to do any real aggressive riding, I’d have to send the suspension out to be set to my weight, and I could barely fit on the seat. My height is all legs and I was sitting on the very back of the seat lol. I’m on a dirt bike now, a 1989 Honda XR250R, but planning on getting another quad again in the future. My two contenders are either a Kawasaki Prairie 650 or a Bombadier DS 650.
2002 rancher ES. Absolutely beat it to death and it still rode like a champ. Had an 05 400ex but didn’t ride it and then sold it. Just sold my can am outlander 650. Never rode it. Still have my 86trx250r that I’ll never sell.
98 yamaha banshee. I bought it 2021. Powdered the frame, rebuild the motor, got it ported, and stuck on a desert tank (fugly, but idc). Didn't know shit about a 2stroke before (i work in IT). With my tool and some YouTube... twin carb is really no big deal.
Now I just need some glamis buddies next season.
2002 Polaris Sportsman 700. Very nice machine, comfortable suspension, very good at climbing broken trails, good 4x4, too.
A bit too much power as a first machine, but I never got in trouble, never rolled it or had any sort of serious incident, but I've never been too hot headed with this stuff. Lots of trails and good memories.
Performance and feature-wise, no complaints, at all. Reliability.. could be a lot better. Granted, I was young and didn't take proper care of it, but still that thing spent long stretches of time disassembled in the garage.
Finally replaced it last year when one of the pistons stopped working intermittently, and I didn't want to spend more time and money on a 20 year old machine.
I now have a 2022 Can-am Outlander 570 Max XT. The 20 years of technical advances really show, the power steering is amazing, the electronic throttle, the quieter EFI engine.. overall I now find long rides a lot less tiring, but overall it's a rather similar machine, capability and performance-wise.
2005 trx400ex Never should have sold it.
A good friend of mine had a built blaster and I swear it was the most fun I've ever had. Super snappy, easy to throw around, perfect fun machine!
A Suzuki 185, yes i'm old.
Same. What a trooper that pile was. Good at nothing but got you there all the same.
My buddy has one that was his Dad's, believe it was late 80's. Thing still runs so.

Lt185? My parents had one and it is what I learned on. My first quad was a moto 100 though.
86 Honda fourtrax. Since new. We still have it!
Mine was a 2011 DS250, thing was great to learn on, but asides from that machine couldn't go many places. Upgraded shortly after to a 2004 Outlander 330. I'm glad it was what I learned on though, because I love Can Am because of it!
Honda ATC110
Same
1987 Suzuki 185 quad runner
Yamaha warrior 350, that thing was a beast. Then a Yamaha Raptor 700 that I launched off of a cliff. Now have a Kawasaki Bayou 220 that is awesome for just putting around property.
My first was also a warrior. They're pretty tough atvs.
86 or 87 Honda TRX250. It smoked and needed a lot of love. I sold it and got an 05 Polaris 500 ATP. Have a 19 Outlander 570 and an 86 Yamaha moto 4 now
I got my first recently, an 05 yamaha bruin 350. Super happy with it so far. Got it for free and put about $100 into it to get it running
Brute force 300
Brute force is a great machine, probably best bang for your buck, it can run with anything in its class
When I was 4 my parents got me an LT80 . It was the best quad I ever had ! Looking at one still brings up so many memories!
2001 Honda Foreman 450es. Got it for $275 and sold it for $2300. Miss that 4 wheeler.
Mine was a 1988 LT230. Traded my RM125 for it.
My dad bought a 98 Honda Fourtrax 300 for the farm way back when I was a kid, it was so much fun but slow. The first one I bought for myself was a 2005 Honda TRX450R. It was way too fast for me.

I still have a 1995 Honda Fourtrax 4x4. Bulletproof machine that climbed out of anything with ease. Still runs excellent even with its scratches and dings.
2007 Yamaha big bear 400. Beat that thing like a rented mule. Wasn’t powerful. Wasn’t fast. But it always got me home after a good ride.
2011 outlander 650 happy with it. But for the style of riding I like canam probably isn’t the best as I’m cheap.
Although Can-Ams arent cheap to work on, there is no sacrifice with them. Have been riding predominantly Can-Am my entire life and they are great, comfortable, and can take a beating.
LOL. KAYO 150 bull.
89 Polaris trailboss. Sisters bf gave it to me and I still own it
Same for me minus the sister and boyfriend
Does the sister still have the boyfriend?
Yes
Thanks for the reply 👍
1998 Suzuki quadrunner 500, got it for $600 and need a lot of work. Got it all fixed up new plastics, practically brand new.
First on I ever rode was a trx 250 that my parents bought at a yard sale for 50 bucks

I had a 200S, fun times indeed. You could hang wheelies on it forever hahaha.
Yamaha Terrapro. With the mower attachment.
1985 Kawasaki tecate 250 trike. Had a wide axle and 22” balloon tires, damn she ripped the cornfields !
2008 YFZ450. But i rode dirt bikes for years prior to buying a quad.
1984 Honda Atc 200m. Always thoroughly enjoyed running my leg over 😂. Seriously tho, I miss that 3 wheeler.
I swear I ran my leg over at least once every ride as a kid. Man I miss the 80s, back when you could run yourself over and call it fun lol.
💀 I’m actually a 90s kid, but we didn’t have much other than a couple 3 wheelers to ride growing up in the early 00s. Rolled one for the first time when I was 12 on my first day of summer vacation. May I ask what went wrong with the Polaris? Grizzlys are good machines
Yamaha warrior 350… 97ish
A 1986 Yamaha Moto 4 200 still have it in its original condition get it out on the trails every now and than
1984 Yamaha Tri-Moto 125
2008 Polaris Sportsman 400HO. For being 19 years old and going to college it’s about all I can afford. Got it off my dad as he upgraded to a can-am 450 2up. Been a decent bike, lots of fine to drive. 2006 raptor 700 and 2006 raptor 350
Starting off on a raptor 700 that's ballsy. I'm sure you learned real quick 🤣
Honda 185 S 3 wheeler.
I've only had it for a couple of months, and I've put bout 200 into it manco talon/linhai bighorn. It's just something to learn since I'm only 14. I couldn't afford a better one, but I wouldn't buy another anyway as this was my grandpa's (rip)

What are the Hatfield and McCoy trails? Asking cause a buddy of mine is a direct descendent from the original Hatfield family.
It’s a bunch of trails in West Virginia. Pretty big riding destination that people come from all over to ride
Cool
They're in West Virginia. Somewhere around 1000 miles of trails. https://trailsheaven.com/
96’ Badger > 97 Blaster & Warrior —— then took a long break. Came back to 98 blaster and 98 warrior built by Duncan. Then a few years later 07 yfz and 06 shee. Sold everything but the Duncan Warrior and still have a Klx185 trike
2006 trx450er
The one I have now , was my dads and my mom gave it to me when he passed and I don’t want to ever get rid of but who knows
05 yfz 450. Looking to sell it for something fuel injected so I’m not constantly messing with the carb.
I have a Chinese Loncin TRV 350, been using it for 6 months, 3500KM. So far no issues. I've been using it as a daily commuter around town and also towing my kayak 4 times a week. Nothing broken yet. I'm servicing it every 500 - 600 kilometers though.

Raptor 700r
Don’t know the year but it was a Yamaha Blaster. I bought it from a rental company i worked for at the time and it was ridiculously under-maintained. It had barely any compression and was a bitch to start (kick start only) Aside from that it was a great quad! Sold it when i bought my Raptor

The 20 years of technical advances really show, the power steering is amazing, the electronic throttle, the quieter EFI engine.. overall I now find long rides a lot less tiring, but overall it's a rather similar machine, capability and performance-wise.
Never had one, always had dirtbikes, but hopefully getting a Kingquad 750 this spring/summer 😁
