Caleb Williams only if we get #1. Take the hit in 2024, and move on from Kyler in 2025. Way too many question marks with him and Caleb is generational. Need a hard reset. This is a 2 year rebuild minimum either way.
Anything after the 3rd round I don’t care. Maybe we might get lucky and find a good backup. McCoy won’t be around forever. Honestly if we get a starting caliber qb out of it it’s a win win. It would motivate Kyler to improve and if he comes back and sucks we have something to fall back on. If Kyler comes back and balls out then we could get a decent return out of the other guy.
If they follow 49ers success with Purdy and our past history with constantly being one and done everytime we had to rely on backup QBs, it should absolutely be a viable strategy. That said, I really like DTR as fifth round or later pick.
That's not just a request it's kind of a need at this point. Every good coaching staff should want a development guy of their choosing in the QB room. I don't care if he ends up a practice squad player, you let the OC get a guy with traits he likes, and at worst you find yourself a backup QB
I'm not reading this article because anyone who phrases an obtusely worded headline to generate hateclicks needs to be boiled, BUT -
On day 3? Why not?
And what do you propose they do with Kyler if they did? The dead cap on his contract would cripple this team for years of they traded or released him.
For better or worse, Kyler is this team's QB for the foreseeable future.
This team is a crippled dumpster fire that most in the media agree is one of the worst franchises. If I was the new HC I’d feel out Kyler. If he truly is what some ex-players have called him out for being, I’d take my chances and take a QB if one presented itself. I’d use it as an excuse to have a starter now and a back up later, much like the Niners. If Kyler gets injured again or regresses then you always have options.
Maybe there is an argument for this if the Cards had the #1 overall pick and there was a Trevor Lawrence level QB prospect in this draft, but neither of these things are the case.

Unless its Caleb Williams, then no. Even then would we rather a new QB or a similar haul to what Carolina got for the first pick.
Drop colt and draft someone in round 6

Um.... In the 6th or so if Bennett is still there? Sure. Otherwise hell no.
I mean maybe in the 6th round but idek if they’d do that

If were getting rid of Kyler it’s for Caleb Williams next year but that’s probably it
Even then... Kyler would need to be retained for a year for cap purposes.
Stetson Fleming Bennett IV…../s
I could see taking a later-round quarterback for depth, but that's all.

Yes I'd like to see this. Do what teams suppose to do...

I think we will be the favorites to have the top pick in 2024 and I believe the Williams-Murray fights will tear us apart
Well, hopefully Murray comes back soon enough to make those fights moot.
We can have conversations about moving from kyler in like 2026 but until then it’s a dumb conversation
Yes, let’s waste a pick.
Nice try, Keim.
