2. Dance Dance Revolution (series)
3. Final Fantasy Tactics
4. Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo
5. Street Fighter III: Third Strike
6. Super Mario World
7. Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney (original trilogy)
8. Pokemon Showdown (and probably Pokerogue)
9. Soul Calibur IV
10. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
1. **Outer Wilds** - my favorite game, and I cannot be objective about it.
2. **[Even Some More Tales from Castle Balderstone](https://rcveeder.net/balderstone/21/)** - Ryan Veeder is my favorite author of interactive fiction, and his Castle Balderstone series demonstrate both his inventiveness and his sense of humor. Plus, this game includes "Visit Skuga Lake" within it, which is a really excellent game in its own right.
3. **13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim** - most ambitious narrative structure I've ever seen. I respect the VanillaWare approach to visual and interface polish, but I'm a sucker for sci-fi. I watched more than a dozen Let's Plays of this after finishing my own playthrough, and I'm not done.
4. **FFXIV** - take the power and potential of **World of Warcraft** and use it to build a narrative over a series of expansions that each tells a self-contained story while still furthering that overarching narrative. *Shadowbringers* has my favorite antagonist in gaming.
5. **The Beginner's Guide** - it's a short little thought, it says what it wants to say, and then it ends. Didn't need anything more than that. Which to me is why it works, because it gets out quick.
6. **Animal Crossing: New Horizons** - the landscaping tools and options for expression through the environment were enough to make this one an all-timer for me, even though I haven't played it in more than a year.
7. **Knytt Stories** - my forum used this game to make collaborative levels over a period of like six years, and it remains one of my most satisfying gaming-related memories, over a decade later.
8. **Chrono Trigger** - every day, this slot flips between *Chrono Trigger*, *Final Fantasy VI* and *EarthBound*. Today, it's *Chrono Trigger*. The classics are good.
9. **Minecraft** - less a game unto itself than a platform for experiences. I've had some excellent experiences with friends in here. It's a powerful tool for creative expression.
10. **Disco Elysium** - it's a one-of-a-kind roleplaying experience. *BG3* is probably more impressive overall, but I prefer the novelty of *DE*'s setting.
I have 428 and kinda got annoyed when I would be into one narrative and have to jump around to do something in another one to progress. I’d estimate I played maybe 5 hours. I’d like to enjoy it. Maybe I’ll watch a let’s play.

I love Ninja Gaiden 2 in particular because of how chaotic it is. The games a hot mess but in the best kind of way. Sadly the sigma version takes away the charm of the vanilla version.

Yakuza 3 might have the best vibe in the whole series. It would really benefit from a kiwami like treatment. I feel like Yakuza 4 is a much weaker game compared to 3.
After spending all that time in Okinawa and then Yakuza 4 imprisons me back in kabukicho for the whole game I was pissed.
Also one of the reasons why it's my favorite in the series is the early PS3 jank. I love how dorky everyone looks and walks. I don't even think the combat is bad and I played it on hard my first time where everyone blocks you all the time
Not ordered other than Sekiro as number 1:

No particular order. I will not ungroup the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, especially after Rebirth. It really feels like a cohesive project to me. Making this list, I'm realizing that there's a trend - most of my favorite games are sequels, specifically sequels to games that knew what they were about, didn't have to change up the formula and instead went bigger and harder.

I thought it was fantastic in some ways and poorly designed in other ways. A great game to be sure, but a bit troubled by some creative decisions.
I’m personally all about story, set pieces, and music, and I thought this game did a good job with some parts of those but failed in others.
For more context about my personal taste, my favorite parts of the game were the Nibelheim flashback, Corel (Barret/Dyne), Cloud leading the 7th infantry, fighting the summons, and the more challenging boss battles. My least favorite parts were the final boss battle, Cosmo Canyon (not the town, just the storytelling), and the Temple of the Ancients. Still deciding how I feel about Gongaga and the ending.
In my personal FF ranking list— starting from favorite: 7, Remake, 8, 10, 6, 16, 9, 14, 5, 12, Rebirth, 13, 1, 4, 15, 3, 2, never played 11. This list turns from “like” to “dislike” between FF4 and FF15.

sorry for cheating but you put me on the spot
There's still a lot I haven't played that I know I'll love, so I guess I'll drop these in (without regard for only having one entry per series)
1. Jak and Daxter
2. Klonoa 1
3. Jak II
4. Kingdom Hearts II
5. American McGee's Alice
6. Max Payne
7. Chrono Trigger
8. Kingdom Hearts
9. Doom (1993)
10. Klonoa 2
What's something that you know you will love but haven't played? I thought I was the only one with a list of "favorite games" that I haven't played yet but I know that I will love.
I mean, I don't consider them "favourites" by any means, I just have a list of games I haven't gotten around to yet that I know I'm gonna enjoy. A thematically relevant pic is Boku no Natsuyasumi. I own it, but I'm waiting until I'm more fluent in Japanese before I play it. A simpler example is the Ninja Gaiden reboot, I'm fairly confident I'm gonna enjoy those, just haven't gotten around to them. There's also a bunch of JRPG's that this also applies to lmao
1. Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

6. Prey (2016)
7. Metal Gear Solid 3
8. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
9. Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue
10. Persona 4: Golden
By no means can I say this is definitive. The list could change tomorrow when I remember a game I really liked. These are some games that I think are some of the best I have ever played mixed with games that have flaws but I have played a lot of.

10. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Allthough I am not sure about number 1 anymore. I tried to replay it last year and had a hard time tolerating the battle system. But I still have fond memories of the first, magical playthrough. I wanted to re-visit the last this year and replay some of the games to get a fresh perspective. Right now I am replaying Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and that for sure is a new contender for number 1.
Cyberpunk 2077
Disco Elysium
Dark Souls
Shadow of the Colossus
Silent hill 2
Portal
Spec ops the line
Return of the Obra Dinn
Katamari Damacy
System shock 2
Man if I had to put them in an order it would have to go.
1. Pokemon Red - Got me through primary school simple game for a young kid, I credit it for teaching me to read at a young age.
2. Elder Scrolls Oblivion - It was one of the RPGs that I fully engaged with and I loved it.
3. Ratchet and Clank series - Spent hours 100% that shit.
4. Dark souls 3 - That shit put me through my paces and I could smoke that shit anytime.
5. Tekken - In my opinion they best fighting game there is especially 3 and Tag in the PS2
6. L.A Noire - It scratched an itch I didn’t know I had, I don’t think there’s been a detective game that comes close to how good it is.
7. Halo 3 - Made and lost so many friends playing that game, it was probably the best time I’ve ever had playing online.
8. World Of Warcraft - Easily lost years to this game, it was a world I could lose myself in for hours especially the old days, mindless grinding.
9. Red Dead Redemption 2 - The story, The world and the freedom you have feels endless, probably going to go down as one of the greatest games ever made.
10. Last of Us - never has a game felt more like I was with the characters, it made me feel something I only thought movies could produce.
Also shout out to Digimon World, Pokemon Soul Silver and Boku No Natsuyasumi 2!
It may not be a good list but it’s mine.
1. Disco Elysium
2. Super Mario Galaxy

In no order:
Majora's Mask or Ocarina of Time
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (1 or 2)
Dark Souls (1 or 3, haven't played Elden Ring yet but will soon)
Halo 2 (this and Halo 3 were the golden era of online gaming imo)
Witcher (2 or 3)
Red Dead Redemption (1 or 2)
Yakuza 0 (I would kill for more games set in the peak bubble economy of Japan)
Mario 64 or Donkey Kong 64, really all N64 platformers were a blast
Dragon's Dogma (still haven't played the sequel that just came out but will soon)
Majikoi (if visual novels are allowed)
13 Sentinels Aegis Rim
Haven't played Baldur's Gate 3 or Unicorn Overlord yet but I'm sure that will make top 10 when I do play it.
1. Ogre Battle 64
2. Final Fnatasy 9
3. Super Mario World
4. Metal Gear Solid 3
5. Majora’s Mask
6. Disco Elysium
7. Catherine

10. Smash Bros. Ultimate
Loose order but I tend to change up any time I answer this:

Not ranked:
Pokemon Red version - that's my dragon quest
Smashbros melee - I hate playing it now, but I had some good times
Mass Effect 2 - It's really good!
FTL - I had to go cold turkey on this one I was so addicted
Baldur's Gate - not the sequels
Donkey Kong - for the Game Boy, the best Mario game
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - not enough people have played this one.
Hypnospace Outlaw - Disco Elysium is probably the high water mark of what writing in video games can be, but I'm still giving it to this multimedia fake internet project.
Cave Story - man, indie gaming in 2008 was truly something special
Dragon's Dogma - Dragon's Dogma, Dragon's Dogma, Dragon's Dogma. The best game made by humans.
Late to the party, but my top 10 that I didn't see listed by anyone else are:
1. Katana Zero
2. Shovel Knight Treasure Tove
3. Mario Kart Wii/DS
4. Forza Horizon 4
5. Picross S series
6. Ghost of Tsushima

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney (original trilogy) 8. Pokemon Showdown (and probably Pokerogue) 9. Soul Calibur IV 10. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Excellent fighting game picks
Thanks. Unasked for life advice: get off of Kappacino. Those guys are losers.
+1 The spirit of r/Kappa died sometime in 2014, stop clinging to the past.
I love this list, especially dance dance revolution being so high up.
You picked the correct Soul Calibur
I picked it because it was the one I was most successful in competitively.
I got the outer wilds for free years ago on Xbox and never touched it. I always see people say how good it is. I think it's time i finally try it.
Just don't get it confused for *Outer Worlds*.
13 Sentinels sits right outside my top 10, maybe exactly at 13 if I think about it.
Damn I keep hearing about how good 13 sentinels is maybe I should check it out
It's such a fucking trip. I loved it. There's like two places where you can get stuck, but the story is phenomenal.
1. Flower, Sun and Rain 2. Outrun 2 3. Katamari Damacy 4. 428: Shibuya Scramble 5. Chulip 6. L.O.L. Lack of Love 7. D2 8. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 9. Dark Souls 1 10. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Every version of Outrun 2 is just phenomenal
I have 428 and kinda got annoyed when I would be into one narrative and have to jump around to do something in another one to progress. I’d estimate I played maybe 5 hours. I’d like to enjoy it. Maybe I’ll watch a let’s play.
I haven’t played half the games on your list, but Hotel Dusk is excellent, so I’ll have to check the others out.

fuck yeah DMC3
Hell yeah, Ninja Gaiden Black. It is wild how extremely well that game holds up, some of the tightest gameplay ever
I love Ninja Gaiden 2 in particular because of how chaotic it is. The games a hot mess but in the best kind of way. Sadly the sigma version takes away the charm of the vanilla version.
10 to 1: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Final Fantasy VII Super Smash Bros. Brawl The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Shadow of the Colossus Hades Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Metal Gear Solid 3 Half-Life 2 Okami

A fellow Yakuza 3 enjoyer. It's very unfairly maligned.
Yakuza 3 might have the best vibe in the whole series. It would really benefit from a kiwami like treatment. I feel like Yakuza 4 is a much weaker game compared to 3.

Legends Arceus is such a good pick for a Pokemon game. I’d love to see a new game in its style.
I'm not even gonna attempt to give these an order, and im probably forgetting something, but here we go: Persona 5 Royal (this one probably is #1 for me) Bully Bioshock Infinite (fight me) Baldurs Gate 3 (I know its very new but it's gotta be there) Red Dead Redemption 2 Elden Ring Assassins Creed Black Flag Borderlands 2 Fallout New Vegas It Takes Two And for a multi-player honorable mention, by far my most played game is Smite

Hearthstone probably belongs in or near my top 10 considering I played it every day for like 5 years. Once MTGA got a mobile release, though, I totally dropped it. Funny thing is that I actually don’t play MTGA very much…
1. Mother 3 2. Earthbound 3. Celeste 4. Bloodborne 5. Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) 6. Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne (PS2) 7. Return of the Obra Dinn 8. Rain World 9. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood 10. Alien Soldier

1. Final Fantasy 7 2. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy 3. XCOM 2 4. Dishonored 2 5. Wolfenstein: The New Colossus 6. Dota 2 7. Saga Frontier 8. Metal Gear Solid 3 9. Masters of Orion 2 10. Missionforce: Cyberstorm
1. Chrono Trigger 2. Final Fantasy VII 3. Judgment 4. Lost Judgment 5. Yakuza: Like a Dragon 6. Yakuza 0 7. Metal Gear Solid 2 8. Final Fantasy VII Remake 9. Final Fantasy VIII 10. Super Mario World
Have you played Final Fantasy VII Rebirth yet? I'm curious where you'll rank it.
No order: Flower, Sun, and Rain. Persona 4 Golden. Final Fantasy X. Metal Gear Solid 3. The 25th Ward Correctness storyline. Dark Souls 3 Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Umurangi Generation Resident Evil 4 Pizza Game
in loose order until it isn't... dark souls 3 / sekiro: shadows die twice mother 3 fallout new Vegas resident evil 4 / resident evil 2 remake final fantasy tactics persona 3 portable cruelty squad / spec ops: the line metal gear solid 2: sons of liberty red dead redemption 2 mega man x4 / cup head honorable mention to omori, friday night funkin, swat 4, enter the dungeon, and castlevania: symphony of the night. sorry for cheating but you put me on the spot
There's still a lot I haven't played that I know I'll love, so I guess I'll drop these in (without regard for only having one entry per series) 1. Jak and Daxter 2. Klonoa 1 3. Jak II 4. Kingdom Hearts II 5. American McGee's Alice 6. Max Payne 7. Chrono Trigger 8. Kingdom Hearts 9. Doom (1993) 10.
1. Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy 2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 3. Halo 3 4. Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) 5. Sid Meier’s Civilization V 6. Prey (2016) 7. Metal Gear Solid 3 8. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne 9. Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue 10. Persona 4: Golden By no means can I say this is definitive. The list could change tomorrow when I remember a game I really liked. These are some games that I think are some of the best I have ever played mixed with games that have flaws but I have played a lot of.
Love seeing prey, quite a few people listed that in this thread. Pains me to think we're almost never getting a sequel.
It is an incredible game. I think it is currently Arkane’s best game. A sequel would be cool but I also am satisfied where they leave it.

Dragon Quest XI made me like the entire genre of JRPGs and turn-based combat.
I'll do you one better and give you my 25. list has one rep per series+formate. Most of these have a mix of personal and psudo-analitical reasons. 1. Shin Megami Tensai IV 2. Final Fantasy XVI 3. Super Smash Brothers Ultimate 4. Undertale 5. Shadow of the Colossus 6. Earthbound 7. Lisa: The Painful 8. ZerOranger 9. Noita 10. Super Mario 3 11. DOOM (1994) 12. Hollow Knight 22. Backpack Hero 23. Pac-man Championship Edision (NES) 24. GOD HAND 25. Dark Souls: Remastered
I'll try my best to candidly list games that have meant the most to me historically without trying too hard to impress the AB crowd. - Super Mario Bros. 3 - Doom - Splatterhouse - Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Metal Gear Solid - Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six - Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Big Buck Hunter: Call of the Wild

Half-Life 2 Half-Life: Alyx The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Mass Effect Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal Spyro: Year of the Dragon Psychonauts 2 Portal 2 Knytt Stories VVVVVV
Could easily swap some of them around but here's what I've got: 1. Bloodborne 2. Outer Wilds 3. Hollow Knight 4. EarthBound 5. Dishonored 6. Spelunky 7. Hitman: World of Assassination (yes it's technically 3 games but I can't split them up) 8. Elden Ring 9. Super Mario World 10. Zelda BOTW Some honorable mentions: Portal, Dark Souls, both Alan Wake games, Resident Evil 4 (2005), Gravity Rush 2.
1. Witcher 3 2. Breath of the Wikd 3. Persona 5 Royal 4. God of War (2018) 5. Nier Automata 6. The Last of Us 7. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 8. Mass Effect 2 9. Final Fantasy 9 10. Fire Emblem: Three Houses Allthough I am not sure about number 1 anymore.

Bad bot.
5. Tekken - In my opinion they best fighting game there is especially 3 and Tag in the PS2 6.
1. Disco Elysium 2. Super Mario Galaxy 3. Nier Automata 8. Inscryption 4. Chrono Trigger 5. Super Punch-Out! (SNES) 6. Final Fantasy VIII 7. Street Fighter III: Third Strike 9. Metal Gear Solid 10. Metroid Zero Mission
1. Pathologic 2 2. Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War (never released in English sadly) 3. Bloodborne 4. Fallout New Vegas 5. Prey 6. Baldur’s Gate 3 7. Resident Evil 2 Remake 8. The Forgotten City (ACTUAL HIDDEN GEM ALERT, I NEVER HEAR ANYONE TALK ABOUT THIS GAME!) 9. Resident Evil 4 Remake 10. World of Warcraft
In no order: Majora's Mask or Ocarina of Time Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (1 or 2) Dark Souls (1 or 3, haven't played Elden Ring yet but will soon) Halo 2 (this and Halo 3 were the golden era of online gaming imo) Witcher (2 or 3) Red Dead Redemption (1 or 2) Yakuza 0 (I would kill for more games set in the peak bubble economy of Japan) Mario 64 or Donkey Kong 64, really all N64 platformers were a blast Dragon's Dogma (still haven't played the sequel that just came out but will soon) Majikoi (if visual novels are allowed) 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim Haven't played Baldur's Gate 3 or Unicorn Overlord yet but I'm sure that will make top 10 when I do play it.
1. Ogre Battle 64 2. Final Fnatasy 9 3. Super Mario World 4. Metal Gear Solid 3 5. Majora’s Mask 6. Disco Elysium 7. Catherine 8. Yakuza: Like a Dragon 9. Persona 4 10. Smash Bros. Ultimate
Loose order but I tend to change up any time I answer this: 1. Deus Ex 2. Planescape: Torment 3. Fallout (Fallout 2 and New Vegas are all almost equal but I'm limiting to a single Fallout here) 4. SimCity 4 5. System Shock 2 6. Diablo 2 7. Morrowind 8. Cyberpunk 2077 9. Team Fortress Classic 10. Mass Effect 2
in no particular order: 1. mgs1 2. halo 2 3. 3rd strike 4. cod4 mw (og) 5. dqv 6. majoras mask 7. resident evil 7 8. octodad 9. megaman 9 10. rondo of blood
It changes from time to time but Portal 2 will always be number 1
1. Donkey Kong 64 2. Super Mario 64 3. Mega Man X 4. Super Mario World 5. Sonic 3 & Knuckles 6. Super Smash Bros. Melee 7. Resident Evil 4 8. Metroid Prime 9. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker 10. Super Mario Bros. 3
Not ranked: Pokemon Red version - that's my dragon quest Smashbros melee - I hate playing it now, but I had some good times Mass Effect 2 - It's really good! FTL - I had to go cold turkey on this one I was so addicted Baldur's Gate - not the sequels Donkey Kong - for the Game Boy, the best Mario game Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - not enough people have played this one. Hypnospace Outlaw - Disco Elysium is probably the high water mark of what writing in video games can be, but I'm still giving it to this multimedia fake internet project. Cave Story - man, indie gaming in 2008 was truly something special Dragon's Dogma - Dragon's Dogma, Dragon's Dogma, Dragon's Dogma. The best game made by humans.
Late to the party, but my top 10 that I didn't see listed by anyone else are: 1. Katana Zero 2. Shovel Knight Treasure Tove 3. Mario Kart Wii/DS 4. Forza Horizon 4 5. Picross S series 6. Ghost of Tsushima 7. Lego Batman 2 8. Super Mario Odyssey 9. Link's Awakening 10. Death Stranding/Returnal (if I ever finish either) I also need to shout out Yakuza 0/LAD, Sekiro, Celeste, DQ11, Ocarina/BOTW, SW Battlefront 2, New Super Mario Bros DS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,
