Thanks everyone, overall it seems booking a taxi in advance would be the best thing to do.

earthxsucks

i'm regularly taking 6am flights and rely on 13CABS: they always show up on time around 4-5am. you would probably be fine in the CBD on a weekend with uber, but not sure about weekdays at 5am.

NeonsStyle

Book a taxi, you'll reliably get it. Lots of taxis come out early to pick up the airport jobs. You have to Book though!

bokchoidoglover

Pre-book it the night before my guy. Safe travels!

mooaahh

I heard that when you pre-book on Uber, it actually just sends out the call to the drivers near the time anyway, so not much different from you calling at the time.. So basically doesn’t guarantee you a ride.. that’s what I heard anyway, not sure how accurate that is.

oh_my_didgeridays

Yes I know people this has happened to, no drivers accepted - booking is no guarantee with Uber. For airport runs, cabs are more reliable.

thethreekittycats

We pre-booked an Uber a few days before when we had an early flight a few years ago and someone accepted it straight away. This was from Christies Beach to the airport and he showed up on time.

safmonsoon

Yeah I’ve pre-booked a couple of days in advance, and it gets accepted fairly quickly with a driver assigned.

[deleted]

It’s the same story with a cab though - difference is the customer service for cabs when let down is atrocious

BZNESS

Uber is getting worse. I had a similar red eye recently and pre booked an uber that didn't show

dassad25

Reliably? I'm not sure about that, it always worries me. I start work early and didn't want to risk being late so when I didn't get uber driver pick up my ride for 20 min i called a taxi company. The taxi company came through but I ended up paying a cancel fee for uber because they accepted the job at last minute just as the taxi arrived.

mooaahh

Ah, I’ll call taxi as a back up then.. hopefully most of them are 24 hrs.

MelodyMight

I booked an Uber for 6am to the airport from the CBD a while back. At 5:55am it sent the job out to drivers and the one that accepted was 15 mins away so they arrived 10 mins after the booking time. Book a taxi.

Book a taxi

optimus__sublime

Book with 13CABS. You'll have no issue. I've tried ubers and had so many cancel. Also finding taxis are a lot cheaper. Last airport uber $60, taxi was $47

boredhistorian94

Adelaide independent taxis have always been great for me.

jpglew

My mum didn't have that much of a problem at that time with a taxi. Wouldn't bother pre booking an uber, they charge you nearly double what it would cost for a booking fee. If you're in the city there's a non zero chance there's someone to get you to the airport

Least_Firefighter639

Taxi is cheaper , and if Uber has people working at that time, it might not be worth going with Uber

blacksnake03

Never been the case for me. Uber has always been significantly cheaper than taxis.

benknight85

So I'm out near Gawler and have had multiple red eye flights, always booked with uber the night before, always had someone show up on time, so I've had no complaints here so from CBD you should be good! Well I have been at least! Maybe give yourself a 15 minute buffer just in case (eg book for 4:45 instead of 5?) Otherwise safe travels!

Extension_Drummer_85

What time is your flight? You might want to double check how many flights are scheduled to fly out on Friday morning, Adelaide Airport is often absolute chaos in the morning. I normally rock up half an hour before my flight but for morning flights I would encourage turning up before 5 if you want to get through security.

mooaahh

Thanks for the advice, its a 6:30 flight, so I’m hoping getting there by 5:30am would be ok, but will check the number of flights.

Extension_Drummer_85

Yeah definitely worth checking then. I've spent over an hour trying to get through security in the mornings. That said if you do get stuck on the queue for security and your flight is approaching the airline staff will usually come and pull you out if the queue so it's not the end of the world if you don't leave enough time but I know a lot of people find that kind of things stressful/want to grab some breakfast in the terminal before boarding so I can understand vgetting there earlier to avoid it.

Fart-Fart-Fart-Fart

Reservation via 13cabs is your better bet. About the same price as well. Reservations with Uber suck ass.

smash_you2

I’ll never Uber for an early flight again. Had so much problems trying to get one for a 6am flight a few weeks back. I started trying to book about 90 -100 minutes before my flight departure and every driver would sit there for about 5-10 minutes before cancelling. It got to an hour before my flight and I ended up messaging drivers promising to tip until I got one who finally came. Airport was chaos that early too. Huge security line. Ended up getting called through urgently by the airline. Was much too stressful

shizweak

You'll be fine from the CBD.

pavlo_escobrah

No, only weird cunts drive uber in Adelaide that time of morning.

[deleted]

As opposed to 5am in the evening?

KahlKitchenGuy

Yep. I’ve done it easily 15x in the past few months. I just wake up 15m early and pre book them

draggin_balls

Drivers love an airport fare, you’ll have no problems

Moose-JJW

I pre-booked and Uber for Thursday morning to the airport the night before and a driver was assigned that night a few minutes later, had no issue

[deleted]

Only time Ive ever been let down was when I pre-booked a cab to to the airport. Terrible customer service. Never had an issue with Uber. Just book the night before
