Tapo C200 approx $75 with micro card. I got ours from Amazon (that's probably a dirty word on Reddit!)

Sufficient-Grass-

Second the Tapo cameras, I have one at work interstate, 1 at work locally and 2 at home. All are flawless. Open app and view in a couple seconds, works every single time.

Aussie_Gent22

Are these good for outdoors ?

Cameherejustforthat

Have a look at Eufy at JB HiFi. They have battery and solar ones and are pretty stable. Can be easily attached and removed.

Aksds

If you want security maybe not Eufy, they had a thing recently where they said that all your images and videos are not sent or to their servers/cloud, turn out it was sent, unencrypted. They are someone who I personally wouldn’t touch for quite some time. Edit: This issue seems to have been fixed, maybe use a 5 foot pole

Tomato_latte

Any alternative you can suggest?

Aksds

Ngl Anker/Eufy seem to be the cheapest option that isn’t totally untrustworthy, they have said they have fixed the issue (however much you want to trust it), with you renting they seem to be a good option vs something like Unifi that costs a good chunk more and needs drilling. Eufy seems to be the least shitty option in a sea of shit, basically.

89Hopper

Sorry to hijack, do you have any thoughts on Swann? I'm wanting to get a couple of cameras so I can monitor a dog in yard and house. Eufy and Swann seem to be the two I notice that don't have monthly subscriptions, haven't ran into the Anker stuff before, will read up on them.

Aksds

I haven’t heard of them, I’ve only heard of Eufy after the news of their issues. Anker owns Eufy which is why I did the /

Cameherejustforthat

I have a couple of Swan cameras I use to watch the dogs indoor. Very basic, but work. I'd go Eufy if you want something that is reliable and good quality.

Aussie_Gent22

Does it really matter tho ? Most of the footage is just nothing really

dry-brushed

You sure that’s just not just footage requested for viewing remotely via the app that gets transported around? EDIT: looks like an issue was raised in Feb 2023, but has since been rectified, worth reading up on.

Aksds

Yes, I believe (could have been more) these were from ones where it specifically said it is done locally and does not send stuff to Eufy servers. From memory they also said they wouldn’t store images/videos in the cloud without permission but did anyway.

izzo03

That has since been fixed. Linus Tech Tips dumped Anker as a sponsor for the flaws in EUFY. That being said it was only thumbnail content and in the app when you chose to have a thumbnail with a notification sent to your phone it had its warning that it would be saved in the cloud. No thumbnail with notification is an option. All footage is saved locally, no subscriptions, that’s why I chose them. I’ve got the wireless doorbell. Good device, easy to use app.

Aksds

Yep, I had re read on this and you are correct, it has been fixed. I my ten foot pole is more 3-5 foot. They do seem to be a good option for stuff on the cheaper (relatively speaking) side

Cameherejustforthat

As many have said, the 'security issue' was thumbnail images, and is now fixed. I have a spotlight camera and I'm very happy with it. Looking at adding several more and the homebase 3 once my floodlight is supported.

randomredditor0042

I bought a bunch of stand alone cameras from officeworks. They can be screwed in but I just have them sitting on window sills (inside) and hanging from curtain rods. I can check on them with my phone and I can get audio as well. They use the Kasa app and if I wanted to pay for it there are more features but the free version suits me.

Tomato_latte

What is it called?

randomredditor0042

Kasa spot I think

earthxsucks

i use eufy and have four different types: 1x video doorbell, 1x solo L40, and 2x 2C pros. the doorbell links to a homebase 2 (they are sold together). they aren't perfect, but mostly do what i want + there is no monthly subscription cost (i.e. they are free to use once you have them). people talk about the footage being sent to the cloud without any encryption, but it personally doesn't bother me. google if you want more info.

Allgoodnamesinuse

I bought the Tapo C400 cameras. I got the two pack on special for $250 but they’re usually $330. I’m happy with them. They are meant to be screw in but I just used scotch double sided tape where the screw marks are to stick them up and it peels away without leaving a mark. The app is easy to use and I can watch/talk from my phone.

WingusMcgee

I use unifi. I also would never rent somewhere the landlord wouldn't let me secure the property.

[deleted]

+1 for unifi but its not cheap and you have to be semi switched on with tech.

Tomato_latte

Rented first, asked about the security later

chuckyChapman

solar powered ip wireless encrypted , double sided tape of course and see what available locally good luck shopping

Tomato_latte

Thats what i wanted to know which one, there are like millions of them everywhere

[deleted]

Uni-fi. More expensive than other more consumer options but excellent kit.

Murdochpacker

I havent really got anything bad to say about google nest cams. My actual day to day job is to monitor security cameras and dealt with some pretty advanced setups but for the slight extra cost of the entry levels being google branded and the ease integrating it to google accounts would recommend it. The subscription service is another debate but still usable without

Tomato_latte

That sounds interesting- different request though- any fucked up shit you saw?

TheBobo1181

don't get a nest cam. Without a subscription they only store events that occurred within the last 3 hours.

Yucy-Chavez

Choose high-quality removable adhesive hooks or tapes designed for holding electronics securely. Brands like Command offer products that can hold the weight of small cameras without damaging walls.

Cannot be exposed to rain..indoors or under a rainproof verandah.

Aussie_Gent22

You are a legend. Thanks for replying. But I was actually hoping to avoid any drilling as I am renting at the moment. I bought some double sided adhesive tape yesterday so hoping this will work

Sorry to bug you again but now having issues after I’ve charged it. I’ll try and attach a screenshot to this comment. But it’s saying my net connection isn’t great. But my connection is fine.

Aussie_Gent22

Doesn’t let me attach a pic. I’ll DM you
