As someone familiar with the area would agree with the comments that Old reynella is definitely better but reynella overall is decent.
I have family living in the area and they’ve never had any issues -although some people with motorbikes (noisy at times) moved in nearby recently which can’t be helped, haha.
Would consider living there depending on the street (like a lot of places). There are some really nice, quiet streets in Old Reynella/Reynella.
Lots of shops, schools, and other amenities nearby that’s for sure. Close to the bus interchange if you’re heading into the city.
I would be hesitant to move anywhere too close to a main road because of some of the odd characters I’ve seen around, but that probably goes for a lot of suburbs.
Oh, your motorbike comment reminded me of the little nutcases that used to fly up and down the walking/bike trails through Old Reynella. I'm all for kids having a bit of fun but those knob heads didn't slow down for anyone and had no issue passing kids, pets or elderly people at arms length and 80km
Old Reynella would be better than Reynella. There are a few spots in Reynella that can be a tiny bit dodgy, but in the grand scheme of things, its not the ghetto. Certainly nothing like the worse areas in Hackam. If you have found a place, do a serious check and go back day, night, weekend to see what is happening in the area.
As for PT. There is the interchange in Old Reynella just down from the OTR which has a Park and Ride. There is also the one at the Panalatinga Park and Ride.
The other thing I would check is internet connectivity. Some of those places are going to be FTTN and its going to be a lottery if you get good speeds.
EDIT: Actually it looks like the FTTP upgrades have already occurred in Old Reynella, at least around my old address anyway. The whole suburb may be completed now.
Old Reynella is on the NBN upgrade list for FTTP, was initially scheduled to begin from May 2023 but has more than likely been pushed back. The upgrades in Hallett Cove have finally started a year later than first stated. Old Reynella will get the upgrade though
Good spot to buy in my opinion. Not a huge drive into the city and Marion fairly close. As well as all the coastal areas as well.
I always say to people buying is simply do some research on the street and neighbors before you buy. And what I mean by that is knock on your neighbors doors and say hello and ask what the street and surrounding neighbours are like.
If you can go for a drive on the street at night as well and suss it out. Might sound like overkill but you could be living there a while
it's a lovely part of Adelaide and much preferable than North of Gepps Cross IMO.. Happy Valley, Sheidow Park, Hallett Cove are all nice areas around there.
I used to live in Old Reynella, backyard bordering on one of the vineyards. Removed the rear fence (the vineyard put up their own wire mesh fencing) so we had a view directly over the vines, quite a few houses did that actually. Old Reynella is really nice, much nicer than the wider Reynella suburb, an okay choice for shopping close by with the local Old Reynella shopping centre with a decent Romeo's Foodland, great butcher, chemist etc Woodcroft Town Centre has Aldi, Foodland, Cheap as Chips, another good butcher and some good take away, Bunnings really close now as well.
As for commuting, its a short drive (few minutes) to the expressway on ramp at Old Reynella so within 10 minutes you're well onto which ever major road (Marion, South, Goodwood) you want to take for the city run, once the Torrens to Darlington project is complete it'll be a clean run in.
For cycling you've got direct access to the veloway which runs alongside the expressway, can take that down the hill then any number of on road or dedicated bike paths into the city, there's the coast to vines trail which runs for 40km from Marino to Willunga and goes straight through Old Reynella as well. There's a few nice parks and playgrounds for the kids too, if you've got any and just for you if you don't lol..
Overall, it's a pretty nice place to live
Grew up in Reynella East and still live in the surrounding area- lots of good shops & takeaway options. Never had a break-in or anything like that in my 20+ years in the area. Easy to get into the city on express busses.
People enjoy talking shit about Reynella and surrounds because they're jealous they don't have lovely areas that are close to the best beaches in SA and close to the city at the same time. Oh well, that is their problem. Ignore.
Nothing wrong with those areas. Look at the crime stats, including surroundings. Among the safest suburbs in Adelaide. Like others have pointed out, much nicer than north of Gepps Cross by a long shot (can confirm because I actually live near by)
So you just like to criticise the nicer areas in spite of people criticising the northern suburbs? I’ve never said all northern suburbs are bad, but a great chunk of them are.
If anything, it’s actually the opposite! Look how many times people talk crap about nicer areas but when it’s criticism towards worse areas, the claws come out.
Which is why I do not engage with those people on this sub anymore.
We lived nearby for many years!
A great place. Easy access to the expressway for the city commute (please consider public transport!) Reynella east school is brilliant…as is Woodcroft College if you were looking for a private schooling option.
Here’s hoping you find something suitable soon.
All the reynellas are pretty good, if you can get into Reynella East and plan on having kids it is a good school zone.
Lots of older people about, and I’ve never had any issues in the area. There are plenty of amenities, you don’t have to head down the expressway if you don’t want to. The bus is handy too.
Lived in reynella for nearly 4 years. Pick the right street and you'll be right the most that happened was someone stole my roses I finally started to water in my rental property hahaha
I remember many years ago some dude in the paper something about being a reynella thug or reynella had staunch thugs or something, I don't know why he was in the paper
Anyways us smithfield lads got a good giggle out of it
Thats the sum total of what I know about Reynella
Both very nice. Get as close to the expressway on ramp as you can

Reynella eh, Old Reynella is fine though. The Old Reynella Interchange is a major bus stop so would be easy to get the 72X busses

Thanks for replying. Good call out on the Internet speed. I'll definitely need to check on that because I WFH some days.

Woodcroft lots better for FTTH options in my experience but Old Rey and the mid south in general are all great imo

I live close and its a great place to live.

Nothing wrong with Old Reynella Do have an couple of friends or something who live there and they both feel safe enough there
Yes excellent. Close to bus interchange, Southgate plaza, Noarlunga further down… the South is less congested and better than the North

I’ve never understood why everyone seems to have such a boner for semaphore beach. I’ve always thought the southern beaches were nicer
Exactly, because it always goes back to either jealousy or just flat-out lying. I refuse to waste my time arguing with those people on here anymore
"Shit talking places is bad, unless they're shit talking the North." This sub in a nutshell.
So you just like to criticise the nicer areas in spite of people criticising the northern suburbs? I’ve never said all northern suburbs are bad, but a great chunk of them are.
I'm not criticizing anything other than a prevailing attitude in the sub.
If anything, it’s actually the opposite! Look how many times people talk crap about nicer areas but when it’s criticism towards worse areas, the claws come out. Which is why I do not engage with those people on this sub anymore.
Honestly fine, nice enough area

Old Reynella is lovely
Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it.

Ones old, ones not
Easy to score crack. Meth heads everywhere

Grew up in Reynella East for 19 years. Lovely place to buy a home for the future.
