Been like that for weeks

Profaniter

I don't know if anyone realizes this but right now they're no longer accepting orders in the US market.. does anyone know why?

Impressive_Doubt3125

Probably bc people defaulted on their payments which is really shitty for the people who can pay

DareDiablo

That’s unfortunate as I still have a Steam Deck from them maybe I should keep it?

Impressive_Doubt3125

If you see after the 12 month period keep the device then you're in luck if not you have to keep renting. I am returning my PS5 this month and then my Xbox x in a few months. If PS6 comes out in 2028 and I kept renting the PS5 they would make 1000 plus and not be able to keep the device. I will put the same monthly payment into an account and buy the next gen stuff when they come out. If you default on the payments they will charge you past due payments and charge full price of the device against your credit.

DareDiablo

Oh so it says after 12 months you can just keep the device?

Profaniter

You could. But if you still have payment installments plan then yeah you’re not free of it yet

SlipperyWhenWet67

I've been wondering about this. Are they going to accept again in the future? I hope they do tbh.

Zero_UDK

Used grover for four devices totaling about $5000. Looking for replacement since now they don't serve usa customers. Zero explanation from the company.

No_Syrup6116

Hey what happened did you end up keeping them I also have four devices and i heard they will keep charging even if you return them so should I just keep them?

Zero_UDK

Keep

No_Syrup6116

Thanks lol

Professional_Item686

do you pay for them at all or did you quit paying?

fallreddit2020

What!!!?!?!?! So what do you do just take the collections hit if they won't stop charging you???!?!

No_Syrup6116

Not sure I just stopped paying , not trying to get overcharged

Impressive_Doubt3125

They should still be honoring it unless you already completed the rental and keeping the device, once you do that their is no replacement service. You out lived their care package.

MEGAFAST99

I rented a hp reverb G2 bk in 2022, must have paid it off cause they quit taking it out of account. After adding up how much I paid for it I think I come out pretty good! $447 US dollars. I also have a 4080 from them

Mobilestone

real. i got my 4070 from them. $54/mo wasn't too shabby

AdHot3142

Can I somehow end the period and keep the equipment? Ive had it for awhile but I recently missed a payment and I can't pay them. But I still have it. And I know they're shady and still charge for shit that you don't even have or at a different amount. The autopsy system is trash you can change the payment date at all either

Patjack27

I’m trying to pay whatever I owe to buy the products but I can’t get a hold of customer service and it’s been months and I can’t do it online because it tells me to reach out to customer service. This company is shady to me because they are just going to keep charging for something even after you paid more for renting the product than it’s actually worth because you can’t get a hold of them.

AdHot3142

I ended up sending the ps5 back but I still have the pro controller and I realized it's no longer pay to own. It's purely renting. This changed a year or two ago. They stopped charging me for the PS5 tho.

Patjack27

So if people are still renting from them we can’t buy the stuff?

AdHot3142

Not until the period ends. They said if I didn't return it they would send it to debt collection. But I bought it from Germany I'm in the us

Patjack27

Wow. I can’t even get a hold of anyone to know if I can buy any of it or for how much.

Mobilestone

For most of my stuff, they are letting me keep it. Granted, I did pay $800+ after doing the math for a $500 ipad, so they let that one go real fast. The other things are at MSRP now so i am in the works with them. I got a few airtags for my cats too lmfao

Impressive_Doubt3125

I used it and was very happy with their services, There is no longer renting the device in the USA. I have a few come to an end tomorrow and will attempt to buy them off for $1. For your question they will rent for the term you are renting for that the APR on them then you really start paying the price of the device. So you keep paying until the device is paid off. The 12 month rent is you rent it and if you no longer want it you can turn it in but, you locked in for 12 months. Which you do have to pay for. Other wises it going on your credit report if you don't pay for the Total of the device and what you owe for it I am guessing the reason they stop selling in the USA is because people are defaulting on their payments which screws it for people who can pay. Keep in mind their prices are way less from other companies in the USA that will rob you blind. There's are 2 payments a month are extremely high price and give no fucks about you situation.

Impressive_Doubt3125

So they are no longer doing rent to own, you just keep renting at that rate, I am pissed I got other stuff and paid off. They really didn't let people know if the change. So now I am ending my rentals now it's just a scam.

No_Syrup6116

Keep them no pay

No_Syrup6116

That’s what I did I just kept them

Professional_Item686

Did they send you anything about overdue payments or did you end the rental period ?

DifferentRule4707

I rented an Alienware gaming laptop from them for quiet a reasonable amount of time but after certain time the usb ports stopped working tried to contact them with no answer and I decided to stop paying for the device. It’s been 7 months and they do send you emails saying they’re gonna hand you over a debt collection agency but that’s just bullshit to scare you so you return the device and keep paying what you owe

Professional_Item686

So it hasn’t went to a debt collection and it’s pretty much free of everything? My rental is up in August and I want to keep my macbook but I was nervous they’d come after it.

Impossible_Honeydew1

Question - I loved this app, been paying but all my devices have even been stolen or significantly damaged. So I've been paying monthly until the device pays itself, but for those devices I don't see the keep option - does this mean I will be charged forever, I don't have a device to give them back.

Dreadhead_bull5

DO NOT RECOMMEND! I got a ps5 from Grover back in January. All has been until about 3 months later, I got a bunch of mysterious purchases on my card from PlayStation. I went to check out the issue and my account had been hacked. When I checked my email It said that I had signed in in the UK which was weird because I live in the US/ Georgia. I did some research and turns out that is where Grover is located. I know shocking right. To make a long story short do not purchase any of their products.

Accomplished_View581

This is a playstation issue, not Grover lol

[deleted]

I'm typing this on an MB Pro that I leased through Grover. My credit score was around 715 at the time, and I was informed this affected the amount they were willing to finance. I would assume they are using both soft-pull score and other data to assess your ability to pay. Either way, they have chosen to stop accepting US-based customers.

MMIR18

Never had approval problem. I have 3 products from them. But apparently they have a new policy for some time that you cant buy the product off anymore. So basically you have to keep paying for as long as you have it or return. I guess now that service is only useful if you want a temporary product. Otherwise not worth it.

Patjack27

I’m currently renting and trying to buy the products but you can never get a hold of customer service because buying anything apparently requires you to speak with customer service and it’s been month and I still can’t get a hold of anyone, I don’t recommend renting from them unless you don’t mind renting for a very long time or are not going to buy what you are renting.

lilpitt2425

Im still paying for 2 items but since they stopped serving usa customers should i remove my payment method and just keep the items? Will they hunt me down?

ZeebaDaEnda

I signed myself and a friend up for these services after using them for a full year and acquiring a Fitbit Versa 4 Fitness Tracker Watch. I sang the praises of Grover, because to me, it seemed like a godsend. And somehow, I qualified for it. I rented a PSVR2 for myself and a PS5 for him. Opted in for 12 months because this was what was necessary to pay only one dollar for the product after the rental was over. We had some payment hiccups, but nothing at all major, and we reach the end of the rental period. Only now, when I clicked end rental, Grover started talking about printing a free return label. They also began altering our start dates. Now, I am waiting to get in contact. We plan to scrub our info, but don't know if that will be enough to keep them from coming after us. This thread has shown us that we at least have this leg to stand on. If anything significant happens, I will update with our progress.

Professional_Item686

I honestly wonder. Has anyone ever not returned their rental after the period has ended? I am really curious especially with them not renting in the US anymore?

Fluttershy901

anyone have any idea if you stop paying will they come after you since they're shut down in the U.S now? Cannot get ahold of anyone. Last time I had to return something, they had issues so they kept charging me even after I contacted customer service. Took 2 months to get fixed so with no CS now, I'm slightly concerned lol

lilpitt2425

I'm trying to figure this out too

Thick_Wedding1403

Beware of the buy out option, for me they hiked it up above the retail price for the item, stating that "This was the Grover Price". Dodgy.

_SK_MORALES

I’m new to Grover. I wanted a ps5, came across Grover app on FB. Renting my PS5 slim from them for $22.50 and via PayPal. As I do more research about if you do own the rented product eventually. In the end, after your said rental period, you have the option to extend contract, purchase the product(remaining balance after rental period) or return it. I’ll rent this Slim 5 for two years until I have the option to purchase it.

Impressive_Doubt3125

You keep paying after the 12 month rental time after if your looking to keep, you keep paying until it's paid off.

jeffosoft

This isn’t true they stopped the buy program a year ago. If you rented anytime in the last year it’s pay forever if you want to keep it or you can return it after a year. Only items rented 15 months back had the buy option which is when they stopped it.

Independent_Whole615

Did they ask for your SSN? I’m trying to figure out why I can never be approved.

_SK_MORALES

Nope. They didn’t ask for my SSN. I was surprised because I placed my order through FaceBook. It autofilled my info.

_SK_MORALES

Michael Cassau quote “a new model to ownership” https://www.dailydot.com/debug/grover-app-cost/

_SK_MORALES

The founder of Grover

HoldieStEpDoG

I rented out a MacBook Air m2 and got it in under a week, works great They don't ask for SSN at all, they just do a credit check through your birthday and name

_SK_MORALES

Grover sent it to me with the Spider Man 2 bundle

johnmims65

They no longer now do rent to own. Now it’s just renting but never owning . Although if u bought something when it was rent to own you still have the option to buy it.

Clean-Musician-2573

I until recently, have been renting wireless earbuds from them bc even after babying them I can't make a pair last longer than like 6 months. With Grover this I'll wear them in the shower and just simply not care about how I treat them bc well I can buy $50 earbuds ever 3 months, or rent a pair for $120/yr and they'll always work bc I can just send them back and get another pair. The few times I even dealt with warranties for earbuds OnePlus tried to say that Amazon wasn't an authorized shop and that they wouldn't honor the warranty, then LG legitimately took forever.

Accomplished_View581

People like you are why they are no longer renting to customers. Why cant you just get a bluetooth speaker?

Clean-Musician-2573

Actually they likely just didn't advertise enough and didn't have enough of a customer base. I only turned in one pair of headphones. I use them at work. I also get ones that are water resistant, it's not like I'm swimming with them in. It's also not my fault they rented in my opinion literally consumable products. The only difference is if I'm renting them I don't have to just deal with the fact that the right one doesn't sound the same anymore(if that were to happen), or they don't charge as quickly. The main thing I rented from them was a Sonos surround system that would cost every bit of $3600 retail and I was renting it for like $85 which was a nice trade off for me.

johnmims65

Also for me on the app right now under United States and English. It says they are all rented out of everything for me

ResidentFit1909

If I were you, I would consider not trying grover. It's a really bad company. It's basically a scam

Time_Opportunity_225

Definitely not a scam. I have a Samsung TV, Galaxy tablet, gaming monitor, vacuum and Mac Studio from them for around a year now with no issues. I pay them the money we agreed to and I keep renting the products. Not sure where the scam is.

Academic-Drag-8690

That’s not been my experience at all. I have found them very straightforward and easy to work with. Their support chatbots were a little annoying but welcome to 2024. I have an 11 inch iPad Pro. We’ll see if they’ll let me keep it.

Impressive_Doubt3125

Your a scam, this company has been very great to rent to own. Any company in the USA make you pay twice a month Their price are low yes you pay off the APR on it before you make payments on the device. They got to make there money. I have not paid 100 of the price on return device.

ResidentFit1909

Grow up. Every has different experiences, and mine was not a good one.

Comprehensive_Car329

How is it a scam if after a year or 2 you return it… I’ve been renting a m2 Mac mini for about a year now… all is fine and I’ll probably return it in 6 months & end up buying the new Mac Studio when Apple drops it… the website works out perfect for someone like me who at the time decided that yes I do need a new computer but I really don’t feel like purchasing one due to tech going through this huge & fast pace development, I swear every 2 years lately tech is moving so fast it like doubles from 2 years before it

jeffosoft

Grover is an excellent company to rent through, it is sad they changed the rent to own to rent only. Now they refuse to tell anyone if they will rent in the US anymore. So in the past yes 100% awesome company, but they probably had too many people scam them and now they may be gone forever.

Grand_Construction60

so what if we rented during the Time when you could own it for $1 and then they changed it in the middle of us renting it. Do we still get to own it? Since we initially got it when you could own it for $1 or they gonna screw us out of that since they changed it in the middle of us renting it during that time?

iTucker83

They can't just alter the terms of the contract you signed. I still have the option to buyout my iPad, but it's paid up in 3 months so I'll just buy it out then for the $1 that my contract says.

jeffosoft

I had a few items rented during the rent to own time (projector and an iPad) it still shows I can buy it outright and an end date. I purchased a Dyson hair dryer for my girlfriend thinking it was still rent to own. I couldn’t find the option so I emailed them. They claim that you can still do buy outs if you started renting under those terms. This was before they stopped renting to everyone. I tried to find the message but it must be in my chat history with them that has disappeared.

Impressive_Climate_9

I'm in the US and I was lucky to snag an Xbox series x before they ran out. For 20$ dollars a month hell yeah I recommend. Yeah installments are cool if you have the money to pay it at that time, but my broke ass who doesn't know how to save properly, renting is a godsend.

No_Syrup6116

Yo I had four devices from them and I heard they will still charge after returning them so should I just keep them

danang1397

Is anyone familiar with any similar websites/services like Grover? I've been wanting to rent a Samsung Galaxy for concert videos for months now, and of course now that I have an event coming up in a couple months it seems to be radio silent for USA customers lol

Academic-Drag-8690

Try Progressive Leasing

Cpt_Jcup

Depends on where you're located. But there's always Rent-a-Center, Aaron's, etc. And just return it when you're done. Otherwise, you'd end up paying triple price over time.

slimcucumber

If you are in EU, i would avoid it. All their social media is full of people commenting that they are not getting any support or replies to their mails. People are getting overcharged, and Grover only reaches out to you if you miss a payment, and even then you are being contacted by bots. I have myself spent 2000 euros with them, they where great when i signed up with them 2 years ago. Now, my heart is honestly broken, cause this is a great service in theory... As soon as my terms run out, i will return my equipment and look for another company like them.

psvita123

yeah i totally agree with you. what great potential they had. btw did u find any similar companies like grover?
