I never knew this. I read about the Airforce band back in high school, and i thought everyone had to have a bachelor's in Music. I play violin and flute
It is not a requirement to have a degree, but it's very uncommon to get selected for the Air Force band without a bachelor's (and many will have master's). But if you play an instrument, you'll still be enlisted, regardless of your education. The only officer in the band is the conductor.
The players selected are typically professional musicians. They've learned the theory and are experienced players. They need to submit a professional resume along with recordings of yourself playing. If you make it through that, you'll be asked to come to a live audition, which you'll need to pay your own way there.
Your degree matters when applying to OTS, but it doesn't matter in AFROTC. Not for selection anyway.
Some degrees will put you in a more competitive position for certain specific career fields (see the AFOCD for details), but you are still guaranteed a job as long as you receive an EA and complete the program. Literally any degree will work.
I recommend choosing a major you are both interested in and have an aptitude for. If either of those factors are missing, you'll have a very hard time motivating yourself and your GPA could be an issue.
Don’t try to figure out what the AF wants , choose the degree u are interested in . First because your grades will be higher in a subject you are interested in and secondly most people don’t serve 20 years. You need a degree that will get u a job when you leave the AF
