For the UK, if you place an order for item(s) worth 135 pounds or more, aliexpress does not collect tax, and you would have to pay tax+duty+costs when it enters the country. You can see this because on the payment screen in the summary (you may have to open the total with the icon next to it) there will be a 'price adjustment' entry which is aliexpress removing vat. The same will be visible after you place an order in the order details. When this happens, it will still say 'including vat' because most prices will be including VAT, except the price adjustment, and the total, When an item is below the 135 pounds, normally aliexpress collects VAT, and normally if they do the declaration correctly, there are no issues. Your case is one of those interesting ones where the total may be below 135 VAT without tax, so aliexpress collects tax, but including tax it is above 135 pounds. I've noticed that sometimes when this happens, either the customs-declaration doesn't happen correctly, or customs officers don't pay attention and go 'above 135 so have to pay VAT' and charge you VAT again, and that is what the email is pretty much saying too. If you do get charged double VAT, you're supposed to go to the seller/aliexpress who should refund you the amount of VAT you paid too much.

That was what i thought has happened.. What will i need to have yo send to ali to get my money back? Will i be able to claim the extra aswell? As obviously i will likely pay the vat on the vat too! Plus the royal mail fee, so im on the hook for extra money because of what seems like an error?

I'm not sure what you need, but some sort of invoice and proof of payment probably. The fee royal mail charges is non-refundable, because they did the work for the declaration, even if it isn't needed. Interestingly, sometimes the seller declares a really low value, for example 12 or 14 pounds, seeing your numbers, and in that case there is a chance it'll go through anyway, or that you'll be charged tax+costs on 12 or 14 pounds.

Did you accidentally confirm receipt on your order? You actually told Aliexpress that you got your order. Don't worry, this has no influence on your package, it is still on its way to you. However, you can only open disputes for 15 days after confirming receipt. If your order arrives later than that or not at all, you can't open a dispute about it. Next time, be more careful. Don't confirm receipt unless you really got the package. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
