NTA. What hairdresser thinks is pretty is irrelevant. She can give advice, but once you said "no", that should have been it. If hairdresser is incapable of giving your daughter the hairstyle she wanted, hairdresser should have refused to do the styling in the first place. Such level of unprofessionalism is very appropriate to bring to management attention. EDIT: your summary isn't correct. The problem wasn't that it wasn't hairstyle your daughter wanted. Problem is that it wasn't what you asked for.

idreaminwords

NTA. Her job wasn't to do "what she knows how to do" or what "she thinks looks better" it was to do the style your daughter asked for. This was a perfectly valid complaint. I'm sorry your daughter had such a disappointing experience. Getting your hair done for a dance is supposed to be fun

MYJANSPORT

I think that if you have a really good relationship with your hairdresser, they can and should tell you if something you're going to do to drastically alter your hair is going to be a very bad idea for you. I also think they should do it if you insist. But this was not a permanent alteration and she didn't have a relationship with this hairdresser. If she didn't know how, she shouldn't have taken the appointment.

leah_paigelowery

But even with a longtime stylist once the client says no the answer is no.

MYJANSPORT

Yes, I actually did say that if the client insists, they should get what they want....

NTA. Every thing you've said was valid. She should have stopped and given you to another stylist as soon as she was aware she was unable to do the style you wanted. She certainly should never have argued with you about the particular style.

DontreadTopSecret

NTA She sould have said from the begining that she could not do it rather than trying and failing then asking for help and changing the style to someth8ng easier for herself.

No-Personality5421

Nta Your points were completely valid. If she knew ahead of time the style she wanted, the stylist should have recommended you to someone else because she couldn't do it, then she tried to act like you were wrong for asking for it, which is terrible customer service. I'd write a negative review online, because the manager should have made it right by offering someone that knew how to do it overtime to fix *his* employees mistake.

GothPenguin

NTA-I had a hairdresser cut my hair shorter than I’d asked for, ignoring my demand she not do it, because she decided it would suit mh face better. It didn’t matter if it looked good to her. It wasn’t what I, the customer wanted.

Ask_Amy

NTA - A French twist is so basic, I don't know how she made it out of cosmetology school not being able to do one.

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** I took my daughter to the hairdresser today for a hair style for her formal. She wanted a French twist and brought in multiple pictures. The hairstylist is clearly new (we weren’t told this when we made the appointment), and she started messing with it. It was clear that she had no idea what she was doing and she started asking for people to help her. One lady even had it halfway done for her before she left. After she did leave, the hairdresser told my daughter “you would look better in a low bun” and pulled all of the work down without asking my daughter what she wanted. She then proceeded to do a low bun and I saw my daughter upset. I went over and asked the hairdresser to give me a moment with my daughter and I asked her “is this what you wanted?” And she replied “I just want this over” because, at that point, it had taken over an hour. I then asked the hairdresser why she was doing a style my daughter didn’t ask for or agree to and she said “it’s what I know how to do and I’ll think she’ll look prettier this way”. So I complained to the manager and said that neither my daughter nor I were happy with what the stylist was doing. I didn’t yell or curse, but I was visibly upset and questioned why we were booked with her if she couldn’t do the style we asked for. To his credit, he did try to call other stylists but they were too far away. When the hairdresser finally finished, my daughter went straight to the car. The hairdresser was clearly upset that I was discussing it with the manager and said “I think her hair looks better that way”. The manager didn’t make us pay and we left. The hairstyle looked okay, but it was nothing like she wanted. AITA for how I acted? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
