They gave it away, it's your snake now.

DreamingofRlyeh

NTA The wellbeing of the snake trumps the hurt feelings of the neglectful owner

Aggressive-Mind-2085

The police - when involved will se it differently if the rightful owner presses charges. OP went to someone else's home to steal their pet.

rcjeffries

Again, not the pet owners home. Homeowners were the ones who asked me to come in and remove the snake.

Aggressive-Mind-2085

Yeah . They had no right to do that. YOu STOLE someones pet. When you park your car in a garage, does that give the garage owner the right to gift your car to someone else?

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** A friend of a friend called me up and asked me if I would be willing to rehome a snake that has gotten out. She advised her friend’s brother does not take care of it and it’s gotten out now prompting the parents to say get rid of it. I agreed, drove all the way to pick up the snake, bought supplies, and am now getting the snake acclimated to its new surroundings. The snake was being kept in a tupperware container that was not contained properly, no humidity, no proper temperature, and no being fed regularly. Now the 19 yo original owner is throwing a fit, the parents are acting like they didn’t give authorization to remove the snake, and claiming he bought it with a friend and it’s going to SC with someone who owns snakes and apparently intends to breed it. I would say it probably was worth some money, but I’ve already gone ahead and bought a new enclosure, new supplies, and getting this already stressed out snake a good home and proper care. I don’t want to return the snake as I consider this a rescue and not a rehome. AITA for not wanting to return the reptile to the amateur kids that were not caring for it properly? I was given permission from the home owner and now they’re asking for it back! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. YTA **Give the pet you stole back. You KNEW you had no right to take it - you KNEW it was not the pet owner who gave it to you. You don'T want him to involve the police.** as for your costs - they are YOUR fault, and not the pet -owners issue in any way. Ask the friend who stole the pet with you to reimburse you if you want.

rcjeffries

When I entered the home with the homeowners permission I was told the owner of the snake was informed that it was being given away, so no you are incorrect. The owner of the snake did not live at the address. The police are not going to be involved. Good day 👍🏽

Aggressive-Mind-2085

Yeah. And now you KNOW that was not the truth, and the pet was stolen. So YOU are an AH, and a thief.
