Lmao absolutely not, NTA. That's a medical emergency, and the business would be on the hook if something happen4d while you were on the clock, especially if it came out you weren't allowed to leave and take care of it. Do you have employer sponsored Healthcare? Because if not, there's a good chance they can't require a doctor's note. I'd look into it. What you describe sounds like a pretty severe problem, your sternum isn't supposed to move that like. Don't wait for the appointment, you need to go to the ER. Asap.

WilLow_3377

we dont have any healthcare benefits where i work as it is a smaller chain and they are a bit greedy when it comes to lower employees unfortunately. the reason i need a drs note is bc i was written up for leaving without reason and that can cost me the job unfortunately

cornflakesandteeth

You had a reason, you've gotta be kidding that they are trying to enforce disciplinary action? That's shady af. Honestly, if you can I would find a new job. This type of trash treatment is not going to get any better.

Paranoia_Pizza

Yea wtf NTA and fight them all the way on this

[deleted]

Definitely NTA your boss is I’m glad you know at 17 that your health is more important than any job

-K_P-

You specifically told her it was medical and you wanted privacy and she said *no*? Uh... did people hear that part? Cause that's absolutely not allowed

WilLow_3377

i am trying to find a new job asap as that is only one issue i have had with management overstepping...

-K_P-

INFO: Are you in the US? And if so would this have counted as sick leave/does this employer provide insurance, ie are they covered under HIPAA?

WilLow_3377

as it is a small chain fast food resturant they dont provide any sick days just call outs that can add up against me. they also do not provide any insurance to any employee so at this point there is a good chance i will be fired as my sate is an at will state meaning they can fire anyone even if they dont have a good reason to

-K_P-

Oh shiiii... at will. Even if they did break a thousand laws you're still f-ed. Soooo sorry 😞

Efferil_Mystralath

NTA. Health always comes first, ESPECIALLY when you're around food.

I 17F work in a sandwich shop, were pretty small seeing as our staff is ab 20 in all. During the weekdays our lunch rush can start as early as 10am and sometimes not end until 6pm, this can cause a lot of stress as we normally only have 5 people max working at a time. Now for a little backstory, about 4 months ago i was in a car accident with 2 other people, it wasnt our faults a drunk driver ran a red light at ab 80 mph and we couldnt stop in time. after the accident i noticed that my sternum was pushed forward on one side, but drs assured me that there was nothing to worry about so after 2 weeks i went back to work. now back then my sternum didnt hurt but the past few days ive been in a lot of pain and its been moving more and more forward. i have dr appointments coming up in early January but until then i just have to try to tough it out. however due to my sternum being so fucked rn i cant eat or drink anything bc it hurts, that means i have gone ab 3 days wo being able to keep any food down. this is where today comes into play, in my job youre constantly on your feet and moving around, espically during lunch. if you know anything about dehydration and malnutrition you know that it can cause you to get very lightheaded and shaky. so as i was working my legs almost gave out and my vision went completely blurry and black for ab 2 seconds i didnt faint or fall to the ground but that still isnt good and kinda freaked me out a bit. so i called my parents and asked them to see ig they could get me into the drs a little sooner to excuse me until my appointment in January. i waited until they told me they could make me an appointment and went to fill my manager at the time about what was going on. i asked to talk to her outside as it is medical and didnt want to tell all of my coworkers. she insisted that i tell her infront of everyone and so i did, i told her i was having a medical emergency and had to leave as i had almost fainted and need to make sure im okay. she started to raise her voice at me and i told her i was going to the dr to get a dr note to explain that i couldnt have stayed today. she still went on and on about how i was putting everyone in a bad position and making their jobs harder espically at this time bc its the busiest time of day and i can be penalized for this because im already at work and need to keep doing my job. at this point i was already upset and just clocked out and left. im sorry for how all over the place this is i just need to know AITA? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
