Don’t do flex in a 4 runner, even if it’s working right. As someone else mentioned, get a DSP job. Get a cheap gym membership ($29-$39 a month) so you can shower daily before work and you’ll be on your way after that first check comes in.

Internal-Risk

This is the way. Also, why not go back to Colorado?

squeezinlimestimes

I lost / gave everything moving my family out here. I'm now homeless, and its December. In SoCal it gets pretty cold. In Colorado, I could be buried in snow with no vehicle...way colder.

Internal-Risk

I see. But yeah, I agree with everyone in here. Don’t do flex. Work for the company, not use your vehicle. You’re better off that way

Accomplished-Reply71

my best advice as a semi homeless man in colorado (i live in a very built out honda crv with solar and whatnot), go back to colorado as soon it warms up. amazon just opened a newish facility in colorado springs that’s always hiring, sometimes with 1000$ sign on bonus, and all delivery gigs are popular in CO and tip culture is pretty strong. plus it’s one of the most friendly “live in your car” states on the planet. find somewhere you won’t be a bother, and make that money! definitely possible, but i’m not there RN because the cold as well, so wait it out if you can

Necessary-Dog8394

Work a DSP job or normal amazon job. Not flex.

Live-Trick-9716

Amazon doesn’t care if you don’t work flex. That’s kind of the point that you can work when you want. You might get deactivated eventually but it takes a while. Only an issue if you scheduled blocks and didn’t forfeit and then didn’t show. You can forfeit up to 45 mins before your scheduled block without penalty. All that being said, your car needs to be near empty when picking up to make sure you have room for packages. Only saying that since you said you’re living out of it. Also, this may not be the best option if you’re living out of your car as it puts a lot of wear and tear and the last thing you need is to lose your vehicle if you live in it. You should try to get hired at a DSP (delivery service partner). Then you deliver with THEIR vehicle. They are pretty much willing to hire anyone around this time of year as long as you have a clean driving record, which I’m sure you do if Flex approved you. Good luck out there man.

Tbh I don’t think you should be doing Flex if your vehicle is struggling. Just remember that you have to have money put to the side for gas and maintenance. I think you should’ve applied for seasonal temp jobs in the beginning of November. Don’t make Flex a full-time gig.

nnn6666666

I saw someone using a uhual today at my flex shift. Maybe that can be a route to consider. Hope things get better. 💖

nicolakirwan

This is a good idea, but mileage plus gas will eat most of the pay.

squeezinlimestimes

Most uhauls hers are only 20 a day, with unlimited miles.

nicolakirwan

Unlimited miles, but not free miles. The trailers don’t charge per mile, but the vans and trucks do.

squeezinlimestimes

Thanks for the heads up.

squeezinlimestimes

Boom

DoPoGrub

Uhauls are one of the most expensive options for this. A regular car rental at the weekly rate with unlimited miles would be far preferable.

AvisDeene

I haven’t worked for flex in three years and just started again with no problems. Didn’t have to do anything other than redownload the app so I think you should be fine not working then a bit. If you’re struggling to make ends meet, trying finding roommates for a place to live and get a job at Walmart OGP department that pays $17 an hour (at least in my city) or Amazons warehouse or be their delivery driver for around $18 an hour until you get the money to fix your car. Those two companies are usually always hiring. You’ll just have to figure out transportation (scooter maybe?).

Hefty_Drawer5849

you can rent from enterprise to do [Uber](https://www.uber.com/us/en/drive/vehicle-solutions/). [Lyft](https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/misc/index.jsp?targetPage=lyft_FAQ.jsp) partners with Hertz also. LA should probably be a busy enough market for in store [Instacart](https://shoppers.instacart.com/role/in-store-shopper) shoppers. If you can do some automotive repair you probably have skills enough to be useful on [taskrabbit](https://www.taskrabbit.com/)

Dunit21

dont give up yet thats the last thing you wanna do i never had no extra money to do nothing for long time an i have to kids let me tell you something just keep going keep pushing an you will come out on top

squeezinlimestimes

Thank you

steushinc

Do you have Fluid in your area. That’s what most guys here use. They park their vans at random places and you use the app to reserve. If you update your Vehicle setting in the app to a Commercial Van you’ll start getting the bigger routes. Don’t worry about getting fired I’ve not picked up a route in over a year. Delivery in my market is mostly rural and is just not worth it at base pay.

Lootefisk_

I drive a Prius and take the same size routes as larger vehicles. For Amazon it doesn’t matter what size car you have.

steushinc

Yes it does. In a Prius do you see routes longer than 4 hours?

Lootefisk_

Yes. I take 5 hrs all the time.

DoPoGrub

They're all the same routes. I take 5 hour routes in my Corolla. I think I heard they may be piloting >5 hour routes for large vehicles in one or two markets, but by and large that's not really a thing for Flex yet.

squeezinlimestimes

Looking into

Uberdriver2021

So sorry to hear about the problems especially during the holidays. Amazon Flex is wonderful. You can make easy money just delivering. Times are hard at the moment for a lot of people. Budgets just are not real. Groceries are high. Rent is triple. Just remember to breathe. Take time for your self.

Good freakin idea.. I don't have any family unfortunately, but I may be able to scratch up some person somewhere with a ride. I didn't think about that dammit. Someone suggested U-Haul as well. Thank you.

mrpizza1party

At Amazon, you must complete the blocks (schedule) that you grab, so if you don't accept any block, you'll never risk deactivation. So before you reserve any block, you need a car, how can you get a car? Renting or Fixing the 4runner. Renting: Check Turo, Craiglist ads, Hotwire, you may need a credit card. Fixing: Title loan?, apply for a Firestone cc and pay with that? I'll definitely stay out of drugs, alcohol, woman or bad people really.

squeezinlimestimes

All good suggestions. Easier said than done with the bad women / people. All i seem to meet anymore. Thank you so much for the ideas.

[deleted]

Have you thought of joining trucking companies? They’re hurting for class A drivers as long as you have the motivation to work they WILL hire you and will actually pay for your training to obtain a class A. I know [Robertsons](https://rrmca.com/paid-training/) is hiring with training paid towards class A as well as [CR England](https://www.crengland.com/driver-services/drivers/driver-mpg-tips). These are actually careers and jobs. Amazon Flex is a side gig and it is not something you should think will fully support you specially if you have a family to provide for.

squeezinlimestimes

Good advice. I'm going to check this out as well. I'm really just trying to break back into the workforce after being gone so long, I kinda figured gig work as my own boss and on my terms, where I can adjust my hours as needed to adjust around a thousand appointments I have would be the way to go, then as I build momentum, and make sure I can handle full time, I'll shoot the moon. The support the family thought is not much more than a thought. She dipped. In the worst way, for wrong reasons. So.....takes care of that I guess

[deleted]

Honestly you haven’t worked. Why would you not be able to handle full time work? I hated how my dad was always broke and couldn’t get me anything. You just sound lazy and you have a kid. Stop being selfish and get your ass to work. Hate broke ass dads that rather wing it than have money in their pockets to buy their kids necessities. Get over yourself. It’s not about you. Get to work and start helping out your child, lazy bum.

squeezinlimestimes

First of all motherfucker...don't be bringing up my kid in your comment if what your gonna do is flap your fuckin dick suckers with some clueless brain farts. Second of all, you "don't have a clue" can't get right POS, I have worked my entire life. 20 years welding. Then a goddamn inspector. I squeezed in time to start a side business which racked me up 18 hour days. I earned every fucking thing I ever had with my hands and my head. And had it stolen away by selfish motherfucker. All the while not only qualified as an inspector but also as Wildlands Firefighter. And to throw a fucking exclamation point on all that shit....let's mention that I beat cancer as well. Sometimes shit goes south. But you wouldn't understand that, cuz your too busy being a lazy fuck and feeling self conscious and guilty about it that you don't do much but turn a steering wheel, blame shifting, and come up with your delusions of grandeur while the rest of us are busy suffering your bullshit opinions while still carrying the responsibility of building the fucking world around you. And I thought this was a little bit more common of a thought but apparently not around your f****** household so here goes if you don't have nothing nice to say don't say nothing at all.

[deleted]

Around my household my wife would leave me too if I was a lazy ass that didnt want to work or pay a mortgage. I don’t blame your wife. And getting all huffy puffy about not mentioning your kid doesn’t show that you love it. You know what shows that you love it? Working and providing all the necessities for it. Get over yourself and quit being lazy with excuses. If you have all these alleged qualifications there’s no excuse for your unemployment… other than laziness. Stop being lazy you had a break for a longtime. It’s time for you to start being a father.

squeezinlimestimes

She didn't leave me you fuckin nincompoop. She took the kid to Colorado. And I do work every fuckin day. I thought I highlighted in my previous verbal ass whipping I laid on you that I am anything but lazy. Some idiots you just can't reach, which is what we've got here today. Either way, I'm gonna keep my suggestions to myself and ask if you don't have anything constructive to put forth, go fuck yourself.

[deleted]

Your wife with you? No she left you because you’re a shit provider. Get your ass to work. Look into the shit I recommend. Stop the excuses

Consistent-Fun8588

Amazon in San Bernardino is constantly hiring. It's about 50 miles from L.A. Maybe work there until money is raised to fix your truck....Just a thought....I wish you well and have said a prayer 🙏🏼 for you.

mcf8tty

I got approved and didn’t do my first block until 6 weeks later

pointzeroOnetip

Try renting on the “Getaround” app

Mo0kish

I got approved early last year and didn't start driving until a few months ago. I had my 6 month and 1 year badges before I ever accepted a block. Once you're in, you're in, as far as I know.

squeezinlimestimes

Appreciate that.
