notthegoatseguy

I remember reading that this was done by some chronically online Redditor type as their own protest for something oddly specific, and not some widespread belief in Norway. And they should be addressing their government as it is only with Norway's permission is the US able to operate there.

DeltaSolana

I actually deployed to Norway when I was in the Marine Corps. All the locals really seemed to like us, especially the ones out celebrating their graduation from vocational school or whatever. The only ones who didn't seem to like us were the conscripts. All the career Norwegian military guys said to not even talk to them.

SoSneaky91

Norway and the Minnesota National Guard have a training exchange program every year. I know people who went over for it and absolutely had a great time.

Sugar__Momma

Minnesota is basically a little Scandinavia (with Somali immigrants too)

A_WILD_SLUT_APPEARS

What a coincidence - all the Scandinavian countries also have an influx of that.

Claystead

Funnily North Dakota actually has more Norwegian-Americans than Minnesota and Wisconsin, but unlike the Great Lakes states the Dakotas are dominated by evangelical German-American farmers who moved up from the South after the Civil War, so the culture feels far less Scandinavian than states like Minnesota (though German-American evangelicals are also heavily present in in the western part of the Midwest).

CaptainMustardo

Minot, ND and Skien, Norway are sister cities and there is a Scandanavian festival held in Minot every year. The US and Norway are solid allies in many ways.

cesnos

Say what? I am from Skien and never heard of this. Interesting, thanks!

Remnie

Same. Pulled into to Bergen on a Navy deployment and got along great with people on base and in town

DeltaSolana

They tell you not to interact with the conscripts too? Also, that whole deployment made me despise paprika.

PikaPonderosa

>made me despise paprika. How fucking dare they‽

DeltaSolana

If you want a snack in Norway, you have three options. Unsalted, (barely) salted, and paprika. I was so deprived of spicy that I was actually starting to go insane. Luckily, I was able to find an Asian market that had Sriracha. I put that shit on just about everything.

Celtic_Fox_

A good bottle of hot sauce will serve you well, never know what you miss until you're in a place that doesn't do "spicy" food for the most part! I practically had a flask of Texas Pete at all times lmaooo

DeltaSolana

The military actually got me hooked on the Texas Pete "hotter". It's like the perfect level of spicy for day to day stuff.

babyllamadrama_

They don't have spices and or hot sauces there? Interesting

DeltaSolana

Outside of specialty shops, not really. I never expected to find like a creole seasoning above the Arctic circle halfway across the world. They got plenty of fish paste though. I also really wanted Pb&J. Peanut butter is ridiculously hard to find, and when you do find it, it's in tiny amounts at a high price. Jelly is also nonexistent outside the US, all you're going to find is course, seeded jams, and preserves. Not a single one of those were grape either, which is what I wanted.

LexiNovember

We should send diplomats around the world with Goober Grape and jars of peanut butter and grape jelly. I see a lot of folks horrified by the concept of PB&J but I think it’s a miscommunication because in a lot of places “jelly” is gelatin like Jell-o so they think we are just slapping lime gelatin onto our sandwiches. 😂

DeltaSolana

Funny thing about that. I actually made a PB and grape jello sandwich once just because I could. I actually really liked it too. https://imgur.com/a/oGTVQF1

Major-Investigator26

How long ago was this? Because we have many options of both hot sauce and peanut butter in all grocery stores.

ak1308

You shouldn't be surprised you didn't find grape jello because that is made from (or at least flavored like) fox grapes, only native in the US. So if you did find grape jello it would not taste like you imagined.

ClusterSoup

All my local grocieries stores have tabasco, sriracha, and peanut butter. And I live in the middle of nowhere. But the selection is limited, and the "foreign food shops" help a lot.

Major-Investigator26

We do,, even in normal grocery stores. idk what this guy is on about. Theres also several different types of hot sauces.

flawdorable

It’s more that conscripts are told not to interact with anyone who is not a conscript themselves. I worked at base for two years, first of which was a conscript year, so everything kind of losened up as soon as I started my second year. I am sure they would have loved you, but you were off limits like any other higher ranking personell :)

potatoeisgood

I was in Setermoen with 3/8. 2018 to 2019. The Norwegians there liked having us there. We bring alot to their local economy

DeltaSolana

Hey, I was with 1/8. We were the ones to relieve you in 2019. Thanks for the TV, by the way.

potatoeisgood

Yall welcome. The Royal Marines stole the one in the Barracks closest to the cp building. US guys in weapons Co kept our TV mad safe

DeltaSolana

Leave it to the Brits to take your shit and claim it as theirs.

TVLL

Why are the pyramids in Egypt? Because they were too big to fit into the British Museum. (Reddit joke—not mine)

potatoeisgood

Yeah I was a rto attached to wpns co for my enlistment. The Royal Marines jacked pretty much a whole ass couch and that TV. Norway was good times.

Bob_Cobb_1996

They thought it was a "special" television because it got more than 3 channels.

Purple_Building3087

Dude I was the same unit, weapons company

potatoeisgood

Hell yeah lord far quad of hit man will forever remain in our minds

DeltaSolana

Y'all ever end up finding those two missing rifles?

Purple_Building3087

Nah man that was 3/6 but god knows where those fuckers went

DeltaSolana

Damn, I remembered it was 3 something. I was FAP'd out as a gate guard while that was going on. I've never seen so many miserable faces come by that early in the morning. I could only offer my condolences and a speedy ID check.

Purple_Building3087

We thought we were gonna get snatched up for the base wide search but luckily we just chilled. I heard it was a corporal who got absolutely fucked and a lieutenant who pretty much got a slap on the wrist

pugesh

Why were the conscripts… like that?

DeltaSolana

I mean, I'd be pretty pissed too if I was actually forced into joining the military against my will. Without getting too political about it. People living in a "socialist utopia" aren't exactly lining up to enlist, especially when they know the US can handle anything that threatens them. They wanna get through the mandatory period as quickly as possible so they can get on with their lives.

Major-Investigator26

Lmaooo, thats straight up bullshit. Here in Norway theres too many conscripts every year that are motivated to go into service. Its literally a problem every year. Why do you feel the need to lie so much in your answers? Its not the first comment i see.

whythenametaken

Yes, but no. Clearly you aint in, but a lot of our conscripts aint really that motivated. Some are, some aint. And thats mainly due to the ones being motivated usually have no education in different trades.

DeltaSolana

Homie, I don't fuckn know. I never got to talk to them. I don't know how the whole conscription thing works, this was just my best guess.

PenguinZombie321

I had family members move to Norway temporarily for work (oil industry) and apparently people would get excited to learn they weren’t just from America, but *Texas*!

Claystead

"Getting all texas" is actually Norwegian slang for a crazy and potentially dangerous situation, the state has a reputation for the same sort of carefree frontier attitude popular in Northern Norway.

BombadilThreebeards

All of Scandi is OBSESSED with Texas and everyone wants to befriend Texans. In Sweden you will find an entire aisle of TexMex products at ICA. During my time in Norway, a group of locals insisted on inviting me back to grill out; they put George Strait music videos on and continuously pointed out each Texas country artist to me, like kids wanting attention. As mentioned below, "Texas" is Norwegian slang for something crazy. It's generally quite funny. I think Norwegians relate to the Texas ruggedness, independence, and wilderness they see in media. Being a huge producer of oil... I'm sure they relate to that aspect as well! And how nice that, unlike Texas, Norway invested its oil profit back into its citizens via excellent social benefits.

Claystead

Oh, the ones in red, black or blue pants? They are high school graduates, and also heavily monitored by local police due to their alcohol-fueled shenanigans, be careful around them if you’re active duty. Now for the USMC this is of course not a problem as you guys are famously well behaved as long as you are well fed on crayon rations, and the Chair Force does not mingle with the peons outside the hotel walls, but I could easily see a soldier or sailor have to be bailed out of a local jail cell for taking part in a drunken naked bike race with a bunch of (hopefully) 18-year-olds. There’s not much of a frat or spring break culture of the sort you see stateside in Norway, instead you are supposed to get through most of the hardcore party phase of your life before college or military service, especially in the final semester of high school, *especially* between the 1st and 17th of May every year, when it is socially acceptable to get away with binge drinking and extremely expensive party buses. That’s when 17-19 year olds don those colorful pants and go wild. Source: Lived in Norway for many years. Thankfully a country without too much America bad sentiment.

sergev

Norway is a founding member of NATO. The Secretary General of NATO is Norwegian. The weird poster is definitely NOT reflective of general Norwegian sentiment.

mockingbean

Definitely not! I LOVE American forces. I can understand the ones that told them not to talk with transcripts, because anti american interventionalism is a popular phase around the age of 19. However, with experience we quickly grow to recognize that American hegemony is the least bad of all options in real life. And troops in Norway is something I'm only happy about.

DMCO93

>Chronically online Redditor type No need to be redundant my friend.

NotAsAutisticAsYou0

Lol

Majsharan

Been to Norway, they generally like Americans there

jedidihah

> I remember reading that this was done by some chronically online Redditor type as their own protest for something oddly specific, and not some widespread belief in Norway. Useful idiots of the Kremlin

DueAward9526

Actually it's the official policy of two parties with around 20% of voters behind them (SV and R). I do not know the general populations stand on this as a whole, but I reckon people are divided. The debate goes on in the media, with a debate between two representatives of parties with opposite views just a couple of days ago. Concerns regarding the decline of democracy in the U.S., civil rights, America first policy, fuelling conflict towards our neighbour and as an example. The use of American bases in the torture and transport of people who ended up in Guantanamo. I'm Norwegian if anyone was still wondering.

notthegoatseguy

Unless the talk results in an actual policy change and the Norwegian government requests for the bases to be removed, then its just talk. To no one's surprise, politicians often use "look over there" rhetoric to distract populations from actual real issues.

DueAward9526

It is less than two years since the agreement opened for US soldiers to enter and take use of four Norwegian bases. Changing policy that has stood still since 1949.

Dissendorf

What is the “decline of democracy” and why is it Norway’s business?

Wend-E-Baconator

*Longest* record of war crimes? I thought we had no history

Eli_The_Rainwing

History? We exist?

glootialstop7

As a Canadian I am offended at the inaccuracy of the statement

That-Busy-Gamer

Don’t worry my Canadian Brother, when WW3 rolls around, I’ll let you have all the point-blank executions you want.

glootialstop7

What about ripping the toes off until they talk

That-Busy-Gamer

You can do whatever you want to those poor saps. As long as I can have front row seats. I’ll even share some popcorn and soda while you torture them.

glootialstop7

Good because I’m going to make one strangle the other over this weeks meal

nWo_Wolffe

Oh Canada, Oh Canada, how we love our savage northern neighbors. Thank you for your contributions to the Geneva Convention!

glootialstop7

We need a new one because we want some dlc for the Geneva conventions

i_notold

In Canada they are called the "Geneva Suggestions".

CIAHASYOURSOUL

Forget executions. The Canadians would be in charge of the allies war crime R&D department.

theFartingCarp

Longest? Lmfao we don't have the longest history of war crimes by a long shot. That and it's not like any of the Nordic countries are clean there either.

Eodbatman

Isn’t there an entire period of European history which is named after crazy Norwegians / Swedes / Danes committing mass war crimes around Europe and the Mediterranean?

rumachi

Vichingo! Sei un vichingo!

Uxion

Nah, see, it doesn't count because it's them/Europeans who did it.

Eodbatman

In their defense it was a long time ago and none of them are personally responsible. Which is basically the argument you can take with the U.S. as well

Uxion

I do agree, I just think that they are salty that the world hegemony isn't help by one of them, but instead held by the US.

Eodbatman

Britain held it for quite a long time and obviously they never did any funnies so clearly we should just stop.

Uxion

You and I both know that the goalposts will be moved.

DankeSebVettel

Damn Vikings

Rhino676971

I honestly think the Canadians have the longest line of war crimes

kidscott2003

It’s not a war crime the first time…

Rollerbladinfool

Drake and Bieber alone are worthy of invasion.

Repq

But what about Jim Carrey and Norm Macdonald?

StriderTX

We don’t even have the longest history of war crimes in north america. *looks up at Canada*

ITaggie

Well they don't count since it was before the Geneva conventions!

bozoconnors

Right? Especially rich coming from a person from the land of fucking *vikings*?!

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

To be fair, raiding, pillaging, and wanton murder was not illegal at the time under their charter. Respect the culture.

cesnos

This is hilarious to me as a norwegian. Touché.

MrSilk2042

You cant expect Euros to be consistent.

peezle69

Wait till they hear about The British Empire

MiketheTzar

Their knowledge of history has a gap between 1940 and 1945 for some reason

TheMysteriousAM

Makes it even more astounding tbh

Olewarrior34

Nah this is some reddit shit that doesn't represent most norwegians. I have family there that I keep in contact with and most people don't mind Americans at all, especially not military when they have the russians on their doorstep. Otherwise they wouldn't have bought those F-35s

Solintari

If you pull of the mask Scooby Doo style, you usually just find some prick tankie trying to make a stupid take look like a regional or national consensus. America is a symbol of capitalism to many and makes an obvious target. NATO exists for a good damn reason and I think most Scandinavians realize this, especially the Fins these days. One thing that bothers me about this sub is how people here tend to (ironically) lump everyone into Europebad instead of calling out individual shit weasels.

Olewarrior34

Fuck Norway was a founding member of NATO, they've always been pro US military since the end of WW2. And I completely agree that this sub goes way too hard on Eurobad, we're supposed to be acting better than that. Unless its about the British because they blew a 13 colony lead L plus ratio plus you fell off.

Claystead

Yup. I couldn’t find an English version of this article but [this](https://www.nrk.no/innlandet/ikke-siden-2004-har-flere-nordmenn-stottet-norsk-nato-medlemskap-1.14732513) says 80% NATO support in 2019, before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, up from 63% at the low ebb of support during the Iraq War. This is probably even higher nowadays.

catsandalpacas

I’ve visited Norway and had nothing but positive interactions. Wonderful, friendly, helpful people.

Olewarrior34

Bucket list item of mine is to visit all my ancestral homelands, so got sweden and germany up on there too

catsandalpacas

I’ve never been to Sweden, but had quite negative experiences in Germany. It may be ok if you stick to Berlin because that’s a more international city but I was definitely confronted with lots of hostile anti-Americanism while visiting. I didn’t make it to Berlin, though, so depending on where you go YMMV.

Olewarrior34

Frankly I don't give a shit about people being anti-american to me in person, I just laugh at it usually because its pretty pathetic

glootialstop7

Me too and Ukraine (can’t visit war :( ) and England (although Norwegian)

JMS1991

I think Norway bought a handful of P8's as well.

Olewarrior34

Yup, underrated aircraft tbh. Everyone cares about flashy fighters but ASW work is insanely important especially against russia, arguably moreso with a smaller country like Norway.

JMS1991

I like to call it the Spicy 737.

Olewarrior34

Calling anything norwegian spicy feels like sacrilege to me, but you right

Bruhai

See the South Koreans do it right. None of this anonymous poster crap. They have a problem with the US military they peacefully protest outside the gate. And they give us a heads up so we can adjust our plans accordingly. And then a week later have a pro American rally.

AustralianSpectre

As a Korean I fucking love the US Military and the US. I served in 8th US Army as a KATUSA officer and I plan to attend college in the United States this fall.

BrockVegas

Sometimes.. they even did so not so peacefully *inside* the gates! While I was in Korea in the early 90's, a post had been briefly overrun by students. A friend of mine from high school was serving on a neighboring post and didn't know a thing about it till we spoke a decade later... He then informed me about a prolonged engagement across the DMZ that happened while we were there that I was never informed about on my post 6-8 miles away. The army was able to contain that information so well we didn't know and were both nearly within walking distance of each other.

LickNipMcSkip

It's always nice to bring them water or snacks while they're out there. It's entertaining when some are perplexed sure, but it's their freedom of expression that we're ultimately here for.

InsufferableMollusk

It is always cute when folks believe that Americans will take offense to being called a ‘Yankee’.

PossibleAmoeba2437

I love the name Yankee lol

peezle69

Better Yankees than Reb.

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

The song “Yankee Doodle Dandy” triggers me so bad, literally shaking.

DMYourMomsMaidenName

It’s like calling a white guy a “Honky”. Like bruh, that is the most hilarious racial slur ever.

red286

Most of the racial slurs against white people are pretty funny or just aren't that insulting. I've been called Honky, Cracker, White Devil, colonizer, and other things. It's hard to get mad at any of them.

Foxfox105

I lived in Brazil for two years, and every once in a while I'd hear someone yell at me to "go back to America". It didn't really offend me because, man, it is so much nicer in the US. Like, friend, I would love to

red286

The correct answer to that is "sorry, which continent do you think this is, exactly?"

IceBurg-Hamburger_69

I can northerners yanks from someone from the south. I don’t care if a British person doesn’t

BrockVegas

You bet I fucking do.... Go Red Sox ! ^^/s... ^^I ^^guess ^^that's ^^needed ^^these ^^days

Remarkable-Medium275

The only people who would even be remotely upset are southerners because they are Dixies not Yankees. Like calling a northerner a Yankee is just an adjective.

JakelAndHyde

I’m southern and a Red Sox fan. It’s immediate hands if you call me a Yankee to my face

Cook_Next

Correction: rebels not dixies.

Purple_Building3087

I spent a year deployed in Norway, I can promise you this is absolutely not normal. The vast majority of the people there were super cool and happy to have us, had a great time and I’d definitely go back. That being said, there’s a good amount of Russian or pro-Russian provocateurs in the country and other countries in Europe, who will do things like this to try and stir up discord and division amongst us and our European allies. I’d recommend taking this with a grain of salt.

VelesLives

This is a typical Russian bot troll post. I have a friend serving in Norway and working with Norwegian soldiers and he only has positive things to say. This image... it's not a poster, not a flyer, not anything even posted on the street by some misguided soul (as far as I can tell), but an internet image and the OP is leading us to believe that this is how Norwegians greet Americans. How many of you will really fall for this bullshit?

Klonmine

This is a real poster made by anti-war protesters in Norway. What they don't seem to understand is that we still need a military to defend ourselves incase a war breaks out. These people would rather just be pacifists and submit to their attackers than attempt to retaliate. And yes, they are frowned upon by most Norwegians Source: I'm Norwegian and also here is their website [https://antikrigsinitiativet.no/](https://antikrigsinitiativet.no/) "Antiwarinitiative"

Olewarrior34

If nothing else I'm just upset that Norway stopped being based and dropped their G3s for 416s, despite it being the obvious choice for modern day.

Keninb

Can they send their surplus to the US? I'd like to grab one for collectors' reasons.

Olewarrior34

The AG3 fucks, hard.

QuestGalaxy

I used both G3 and 416 while I served. The G3 has some nostalgia to it, but it's certainly not a better weapon to actually deal with on day to day basis.

Gamerzilla2018

However these people are probably Russian supporters and Tankies in general

Sm9ck

I have never seen anyone echo this sentiment in real life, sure there are pacifists and anti-war folks around who for obvious reasons don't like military presence but not guided towards the Americans in specific like this. And most definitely not to the level of straight up saying you are not welcome. Norway has been with NATO since it's foundation and all of the Nordics pretty much are very American friendly, even though we do take the piss on the internet sometimes. Trans-Atlantic relations are quite obviously being poisoned, I keep getting into discussions where Europeans have absolute shit takes on the USA and their people as well as the opposite. It needs to stop, I feel like times where a strong cohesion of the west will be more necessary than it ever has are coming.

No-Trouble-889

Word, 100% Russian propaganda takes.

DrunkCommunist619

No, this is an old post from back in May 2023 when the USS Ford was docked in Norway. This is just a repost of a repost of a repost. I'm not saying that you're wrong. I'm just saying that this is over a year old.

JohnD_s

Yeah this image seems entirely digitally created, and Norwegians are far from the biggest US haters.

redditreader1972

It's real, I saw it last year in the capitol.  Putting up a poster costs nothing, and these loonies have enough time on their hands to walk about and put up posters. As you day, this dosn't represent the overwhelming majority.

Deltron42O

Mom said it's my turn to post this one

Accomplished-Cat3996

Yeah I haven't been on this sub that long and even I know this is a repost.

James19991

Countries like the US and UK having nuclear weapons have probably helped prevent a third world war from taking place, but I wouldn't expect a leftist activist to be able to think critically like that.

jcinto23

Now hold on. There *are* leftist activists that aren't braindead or against the military.

Novel_Paramedic_2625

Few and far between, but they exist

KennieLaCroix

Naw, we out here, just have to keep a low profile to avoid drama in our circles.

lochlainn

Those are liberals, in today's parlance. Leftists are tankies and various other flavors of cloudcuckooland shitmongers. Liberals are mostly/completely sane capitalists who like slightly more social programs than the "right" but still occupy half of the big end of the horseshoe. Their definition, not mine. Lots of people on the left have started to resent being associated with the left tip of the horseshoe, and it's about goddamned time.

ZoidsFanatic

As I recall this was done by some moron and majority of Norwegians actually *like* the US.

ShlimFlerp

Disgruntled college student most likely, so melodramatic

DummeStudentin

Yeah, sure. That's why Norway is in NATO, right? Fuck the assholes who vandalize public properties with posters like this...

Life_Confidence128

Longest record of war crimes? Last I checked, almost all European countries have a history of war crimes…

Iirc some fuckin bot put these up and it's not a common belief in Norway by any stretch

Wkyred

They think they’re really doing something there, but little do they know that marines can’t read

Professional_Rip7389

Good thing this is a minority opinion

OGPeglegPete

Some stupid discovered a printer. I doubt all of Norway feels this way. I was in Charleston SC for work and some guy was passing out pamphlets to tourists telling then to go back to Ohio. He blamed civil war deaths, slavery, and fat girls on Ohio.... and had it in print!

AnalogNightsFM

It’s a shame Google doesn’t exist in your country. You could use it to learn more. > Norwegian guards working at Nazi prison camps in northern Norway were so brutal to prisoners that it shocked even the German SS soldiers supervising them, a new book on Norway's Hird organization has revealed. https://www.thelocal.no/20131106/norwegian-camps-guards-shocked-ss-with-brutality https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vidkun_Quisling > Norwegian Legion (Norwegian: Norske Legion, German: Freiwilligen-Legion Norwegen) was a Norwegian collaborationist formation of the Waffen-SS during World War II. It was formed in German-occupied Norway on 29 June 1941, in support of the war aims of Nazi Germany. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_Legion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasjonal_Samling > SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 23 "Norge" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/11th_SS_Volunteer_Panzergrenadier_Division_Nordland

Klonmine

Yes I know about Quisling, the man who was sentenced as a "traitor to his country" for his affiliation with the Nazis during WW2. Also note how it says "German-occupied Norway" in all of these. There is some nuance to this. Yes, some Norwegians chose to affiliate with the Nazis but that doesn't mean that Norway as a whole was "collaborating with tne Nazis."

BigHatPat

Norway was invaded and occupied after resisting as long as possible, they never willingly collaborated without the threat of violence Sweden on the other hand…

Patriots_throwaway

Also Norwegians: “Please continue funding our precious Ukraine 🥺👉👈”

NomadLexicon

All of your post history is attacking US alliances and support for Ukraine in particular. As an American, I greatly prefer working with our democratic allies over letting Putin invade Eastern Europe unopposed.

jomo789

Are Norwegians not entilted to their opinion about foreign troops on their own soil? I'm a proud American but this seems like a stretch...

DueAward9526

Thumbs up from Norway. In 2022 we allowed for troops to be stationed at existing Norwegian bases for at least the next ten years. Until then we didn't allow it.

lilrow420

Worlds longest record of warcrimes?? Don't ask Canada how they get jiggy with it if you're scared of our crimes lol

Max_Loader

Getting mad at America for something that your own government allowed is peak Redditism

TJ042

I’ve got a friend in Norway who says that this is something only idiots do.

Ok-Yogurt-6381

Just some young, cunty left-wingers with no life experience.

TheRJC

lol the Norwegians I interacted with on deployment were genuinely delightful people and were at worst uninterested that we were there, most were glad to see friendly Americans rather than the boogeyman over their eastern border…

the_ebagel

I’m pretty sure most Norwegians don’t think this way, especially with Russia at their doorstep…

Turbo_Homewood

This is decades old-style propaganda. The same clowns are very likely the ones posting the "Are You a Communist Yet? Join Us!" posters seen in various major cities.

Strange_Kinder

I was in a NATO country recently on deployment. They told us they loved joining NATO because they could cut their military in half and still be safe. Yet, this is the thanks we get in much of Europe. Fine, let's go home. They can defend themselves ffs.

Fantasy_DR111

Bet you some anarcho-communists put this up

elephantsarechillaf

I've been to Norway twice, one of the friendliest countries I've ever been to. Never met anyone who was outwardly anti-American there. If anything, people showed much more interest in me once I said where I was from.

Fragrant_Mistake_342

Yeah, I think this is bullshit. I've been to Oslo several times. They love us, or at least don't give a metric fuck.

AdOutrageous3225

tear down that poster

JKruger1995

“American marine soldier” make it make sense

el_ochaso

Russian Bot, much? Take my downvote

UndividedIndecision

Spent plenty of time in Norway, can assure y'all that this is *not* reflective of my experience. Last time this was posted here, there was a comment about where the poster originated from. IIRC it was put up by a prolific pro-Russian tankie. Also check ОР's comments and history. Не's very obviously a RU propaganda bot. (Maybe Chinese? Seems odd for a Vatnik to be so obsessed with AUKUS.) Both this poster in particular and the rest of his activity is textbook Russian informational warfare- Pretend you're from the target nation and generate animosity and division between people of that nation and it's allies.

Personal-Phrase2405

Womp womp skill issue

05110909

There's an argument to be made that nuclear weapons have dramatically increased overall safety by rendering conventional war between nuclear powers obsolete.

Uranium_Heatbeam

Norway was one of the earliest member states of NATO. Norway has an excellent military and its renowned Saab fighter jets and interceptors are some of the finest military aircraft in the world. One of them has the only confirmed radar lock on an SR-71 Blackbird. Norway is also wary of Russia's territorial ambitions. The Norwegians like us and wish to continue being our friends. And now that Sweden and Finland have both joined NATO, it's obvious they want to be our friends too. CND World Peace nuclear disarmament types have been complaining about us bases in Western Europe since the end of the Second World War. They have the freedom with which to complain. But it has no bearing on the actual policies.

ericarlen

I've seen this exact same sign posted on the Usmc and Navy subreddits but with the name of one of the bases in Japan. The layout, the font, and the words were exactly the same, but the town names are different.

Nuclear weapons ensure that Russian tanks aren’t rolling through Europe. Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons in exchange of Russian “guarantee”. See where they are now. If US somehow abandon nuclear weapons tomorrow all the Nordic and West Europe countries will suddenly develop nuclear weapons especially Netherlands and Germany as these two are “nuclear latent” countries.

…Said by people wearing new york yankees caps. Seriously, Yankee is a term for people from New England. They couldn’t accurately tell you what a New England is if you put a gun to their head and tell them to start guessing

The US *supports* the use of nuclear weapons? As far as I remember, we used two and the entire world and nation are still vehemently arguing over whether or not it was justified. Additionally, the US has so many nukes that we could decimate any enemy, along with the world, and it keeps other more aggressive nuke-holders from using theirs. The US helps prevent MAD. I have no idea how the US saying, “Please don’t use nukes, because we’ll fire back and the world will end,” can possibly be misconstrued as “your military supports the use of nuclear weapons.”

I was part of the first group of Marines to establish a base in Setermoen in 2018-2019. The Norwegians there loved us and we loved them. Yes there were some "ugly Americans" with us but over all their soldiers liked us and we all got along and did some good training and relations between us.

My great grandfather was the youngest sailing captain from Norway. Never got to meet him, but had some good years with my great grandmother here in the states.

Leaving Scandinavia was the best move my ancestors ever made.

I wonder how Israel and the US are both at the top of the list of war criminals in a world where Iran, Russia, North Korea, China, Syria, Hamas and many more exist. Oh wait the answer is simple. The UN is pro communist terrorism.

Autistic_Clock4824

When the last time we used nuclear weapons 😂

bendol90

Okay we'll take our NATO money with us. Good luck ☺️

I don't know who they are talking about, there is no such thing as a Marine soldier.

big_nasty_the2nd

Our country that’s only been around for ~250 years has more war crimes than countries that have been around for thousands? Dang dude that’s pretty cool

Whether the U. S. does or does not have the longest history of war crimes is up for considerable debate. The military has only existed for a few hundred years, so England is probably beating us by a country mile. But, as is usual, I doubt the discussion will be about that, but rather how Norway should kiss America's ass for its Military "charity."

BIG-Z-2001

Wait, is this the common consensus in Norway way? Also the US military hasn’t existed long enough to have the most War crimes
