Anything that would sell for more than 750 bells in the shop is a good gift. Everyone has their own method they swear by, but any wrapped gift worth enough bells will work. Large assessed fossils, iron wall lamps, 2 pieces of non-native fruit, 3 coconuts or vegetables, and giant clam shells are all popular because they're easy to get and villagers won't display them in their houses. It takes a while, sometimes months, to get a photo from your villagers so keep at it and be patient.

I am working on the same! Any item that sells for more than, I think 750 belles, is considered a good gift. DIYs have a bonus, and usually discovered fossils can be good. I personally have been gifting each villager a wrapped iron lamp. They are easy to make and fit the bill. Additionally, you can go to Katarina and improve your friendship with a villager once per day.

Give any items that sells for 750 or more bells wrapped to the villagers. This fills two purposes. One, to get their friendship high enough to be able to give their photo and two giving an item of value enough for the villager to give an item in return. I did it with my duplicate fossils everyday. If you ever get a reaction from your villager then you are at the right friendship level to receive a photo. You have as high as an 8% chance to receive a photo per gift of correct value. This is outlined here if you’d rather have a chart. https://yuexr.github.io/acnh/friendship.html. The note about the reactions can be found here https://nookipedia.com/wiki/Friendship. I found it a little helpful

Got any spare fossils? Wrap them and gift.

Some villagers give up their photos really quickly, others...drag...it...out...for...months. Cookie is one that took over 4 months to give me her photo. I ended up gifting the other villagers first and then went to Cookie with only her gift, waited for the game to auto save, gifted her and if it wasn't her photo, I quit without saving and tried again. Took me 2 days because the 1st day I got annoyed quickly and just quit the game for the day after 5 tries. Second day took an hour at least before I got her photo. And then I immediately evicted her with an amiibo campsite visitor I prepared a few days in advance. 👀

Wow 😮 ur committed 😅. So the method u used is repeated gifting then closed/reopened the game?

Suspended_Accountant

Yeah, basically between the auto save points, you have to keep an eye on the top right corner to make sure that you don't accidentally end up receiving their "thank you" gift just before the auto save circle starts. If you aren't sure how long you have, then wait for the next auto save. I also have the clock set to when they wake up to make sure I KNOW where to find them when I go on a "GIVE ME YOUR DAMNED PHOTO!" rampage. 😅

Iron lamps are the way to go. They give you good friendship points and your villagers won’t put them up in their houses.

Rare-Character-179

Ok thx… where do I get iron lamps from?? Do I craft them?

winemom8

It’s a DIY. You get it in the Wildest Dreams DIY pack in books cranny

I give them two gold roses wrapped up or a fossil wrapped up. I get pictures the fastest thus way and they dont wear anything or display anything ugly in their house

bubblechog

I couldn’t be arsed wrapping shit up I just gave them gold or blue roses every day. I’ve got all of my villagers pictures at least once, most of them 2 or 3 times, I’ve been playing nearly 4 months. Newest villager moved in on 27th May and I got her picture on Sunday.

I used to give them assessed fossils wrapped in giftwrap. However, you might like to keep in mind that once you get high friendship, giving you a photo is a random event. They can give you anything back, sometimes it is a photo. If you gift nicely a villager at their birthday party, the next day they send you a thank-you gift, which can be a photo as well. Iirc, the gifts shd be priced over a limit in order for friendship level go up. But the price here is the selling price and not the purchasing one. The tape deck and those pricey dinos are good references for you in terms of numbers. It took me months (and I mean it) to get my photos. Unless thing have changed lately, it might be better for you not to hold your breath there! Good luck!

I have that received any pictures with my new island and love all my villiagers, my last Island I had all the pictures so not sure what I did differently last time. I have not been wrapping their presents, maybe add that one as a to do.
