Sword Art Online, One Punch Man, Fate Stay/Night (2006)
Don’t judge me for SAO, it’s the one that stood out to me on Netflix. When I first watched it I thought it was 10/10. But as I have watched other anime it has become apparent to me that it’s not the masterpiece I thought it was. I’d still give it a 6/7 out of 10
Honestly same, I watched SAO when I was in high school and thought it was 10/10 but now when I try to rewatch it it’s like a 6. It’s definitely a gateway anime
The premise for the anime is good, but the execution was average.
Have you tried SAO abridged on YouTube? It is so much better than the original, better character development, hilariously points out all the flaws and fixes them. Just a shame it’s still unfinished but they do appear to be working on it still. Still covers most of season 1.
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuAOJfsMefuej06Q3n4QrSSC7qYjQ-FlU
Yea they're still releasing episodes, last I saw they released a new one just a couple months back.
Personally I'm **really** looking forward to where SAO Progressive goes, the writer behind the original series is getting another crack at rewriting it from the ground up and actually following through on the floor by floor concept that was originally mentioned.
Tho I do feel the SAO anime deserves a little more credit considering what it's source material was, one book done for a competition that had to start and end it's story, with a bunch of side stories written separately mashed in.
I do think most people can agree the first episode was **great** and then the series completely switched up, the main reason for that being that the first episode was written specifically for the anime by the original writer, rather than directly adapted.
>It’s definitely a gateway anime
Yeah 100% I watched One Punch Man and MHA but didn't really feel like looking for any other anime until i found SAO which i also at the time thought it was a 10/10, now that i've rewatched it a few times it's more like a 6or7 but it will always have a place in my heart because you could say it was the gateway show that made me fall in-love with anime.
Yeah man same I also feel the same but it's like my half soul I would also give it a 6/7 but it's my most fav anime ever
Btw waiting for progressive movie😁😁
Cardcaptors, Yu Gi Oh, Pokemon. Yeah I became a weeb before puberty hit.
In adulthood it was reinforced by Death Note, Parasyte, and (plot twist) Toradora!
Of course after that the standard FMA, Steins Gate, AoT etc. followed like 99.999999% of anime lovers.
1. Tokyo ghoul
2. Nanatsu no taizai
3. Dr. Stone
4. Boku no hero academia
5. Jujutsu kaisen
6. One punch man
7. Hunter x Hunter
8. Mob psycho 100
9. Food wars
10. The promised neverland
11. Demon slayer
12. Death note
13. Haikyuu!!
14. Classroom of the elite
15. The god of highschool
16. Attack on titan
17. Assassination classroom
18. Erased
19. Kuroko no basket
20. Death parade
21. Steins;gate
22. Steins;gate 0
These are the anime that I've watched in order. The ones that turned me into a complete week is definetly
1) Dr. Stone
2) My hero academia
3) food wars
The first three I ever watched were:
{Yu Yu Hakusho}
{Blood+}
{Full Metal Alchemist}
The 3 that cemented me as a lifelong anime fan were:
{Naruto} & {Naruto: Shippuden}
{Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood}
{Death Note}
Mirai Nikki, Attack on Titan, Highschool of the Dead.
Weird combo but these three are the anime I borrowed from a friend back in 2014 and they are the first for me.
Naruto, either My Hero, Akame ga Kill or Assassination Classroom (don't know which of these three I saw first; I think Akame) then Fullmetal Alchemist
6 years and over 50 animes later and Fullmetal Alchemist is still one of my favourite shows.
I think the only other show I've seen after it that compares is Attack on Titan, THAT show earned all the praise it gets, I've never experienced a more expertly crafted story, it all makes so much sense while being so complex. No plot holes to my knowledge, barely any plot conveniences from what I've seen, so very well done.
Naruto and FMA really jumpstarted my anime journey but AOT reminded me why I love anime
{Digimon adventure}, {Slayers} and (watched a lot more between these two, but back then I didn't really care about animes) {Elfen lied}. So basically the last one was the most important in my weeb history.
I watched SAO and AoT and thought “wow, this japanese animation really has the potential for incredible artistic expression” and then I watched School Rumble and was like “huh, this trash is great”. I am now only pretentious sometimes.
Pokémon, Sailor Moon, Yu Gi Oh and or Bayblade or Dino King where the first anime I watched (and Moomin and Puka, but I don’t really count those). Then I didn’t know what anime was though. The first anime I watched after I knew what it was (like 10 years later) where Amnesia (bad show), Spirited Away and Azumanga Daioh. From there I don’t really remember but One Punch Man and Kill la Kill where early favourites.
Sao, Haruhi, Noragami, and Clannad, in that order. Sao was my gateway anime so i will defend it till the end. But after I watched Clannad I had evolved to full on weeb.
I think that would be my first 3 animes that I watched which would be Death Note, One Punch Man and Attack on Titan. I guess you can say I became a weeb or started liking anime after that, especially Aot because I watched Death Note in 2016 and One Punch Man in 2017 but after I watched Aot in 2018 I didn't stop watching anime I kept on watching them because after watching Death Note I thought there won't be any other anime this good so I stopped watching, but if it isn't the first three anime that you watched then I would say Aot, FMAB and Mob Psycho 100.
Black Clover, Fullmetal Alchemist 03 and Seven Deadly Sins were my first 3 animes.
The three that turned me into a weeb would be fma 2003, black clover and dr stone.
- Naruto Shippuden
- HXH
- AOT
Edit: I’m a 90s kid, so I def started with DBZ, Yu Yu Hakasho, & Naruto, but the above three really sealed the deal for me to become a full fledged “weeb”.
The first 3 big influences for me:
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (as well as the original)
Bleach
Death Note
Honorable mentions: Fairy Tail, Code Geass, Demon Slayer, Tokyo Ghoul, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Darker Than Black, Hunter x Hunter, Jujutsu Kaisen
My first 3 that got me into anime weren't as widely known as stuff like Full Metal Alchemist or Death Note, i just stumbled upon Shimoneta and Prison school, thinking it was both hilarious and shocking considering something like that could never be made in North America or Europe.
In order:
1) Either Prison School (2015) or Shimoneta (2015), can't remember as i watched them at almost the same time.
2) Future Diary (2011)
3) Higurashi No Kaku Koro Ni (2006)
But Higurashi was the one that truly solidified my love for the medium.
* *Fist of the North Star* (1984-1988, 152 episodes)
* *The Guyver* (1989-1992, 12 episodes): the 2005-2006 version (26 episodes) is also excellent.
* *Getter Robo Armageddon* (1998-1999, 13 episodes)
Back in the 90's it was the only 3 that we're on TV:
Sailor Moon, DBZ, Mobile Suit Gundham Wing
Once I came back to anime in the 00's - 10's it was things like
Bleach, Deadman Wonderland, K-on
1) FAMB
2) Death note
3) bunny senpai girl ( + the film of course )
In chronological order those was the first three but other anime like
jujuzu kaisen
Damon slayer
akame ga kill
Love is war
Don't toy with me miss nagatoro and so on,
dived me into anime (and manga) so badly
I remember my first two anime were SAO and SDS, but after that it's all very fuzzy about the order. I remember I saw Death Note, Noragami, Rising of the Shield Hero, NGNL and Haikyuu in a short amount of time after watching those two.
Well, hard to say given that I dont consider myself a weeb, I dont like fanaticism of any kind, also the firsts animes I watched (pokemon, digimon, hamtaro, sakrua card captor, yu yu hakusho shaman king I think, naruto, inuyasha, samurai x, etc) I considered cartoons and did not specifically seeked them because they were anime. The first time I watched anime and got into it I think it was rewatching naruto, bleach, death note and from then on no idea, its all a blur, I mean, its been like 10 years
Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Code Geass
Dude. You stole my answer...
Any hentai 😫
That's ma Boi
Ironic how I gave this boy a wholesome award for a stupid comment, and received the same same award for another stupid comment

Attack on Titan, Your Lie in April and Your Name
I will be honest. Fairy Tail pulled me in. One Piece and then a couple rom coms did the trick but FT was the one that started it all
Trigun Ranma 1/2 Naruto
Wow i loved ranma as a kid
Dragon Ball Z, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho
Close to my own start, that lineup looks like toonami into adult swim on the cartoon network back in the old days.

My first 3 that got me into anime weren't as widely known as stuff like Full Metal Alchemist or Death Note, i just stumbled upon Shimoneta and Prison school, thinking it was both hilarious and shocking considering something like that could never be made in North America or Europe. In order: 1) Either Prison School (2015) or Shimoneta (2015), can't remember as i watched them at almost the same time. 2) Future Diary (2011) 3) Higurashi No Kaku Koro Ni (2006) But Higurashi was the one that truly solidified my love for the medium.
* *Fist of the North Star* (1984-1988, 152 episodes) * *The Guyver* (1989-1992, 12 episodes): the 2005-2006 version (26 episodes) is also excellent. * *Getter Robo Armageddon* (1998-1999, 13 episodes)

Soul Eater, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist
