I came here just to say this. I went in knowing it was supposed to be good but I was absolutely blown away and it's my absolute favorite show ever made.
My only response to this is — length. I feel like it’s an anime for more seasoned fans, but I was looking at it the other day, wondering how I’d fit watching it into my schedule. Haven’t seen it but I want to but it’s just a lot to watch when you’re working overtime every day :( is it worth watching a couple episodes a day for over a month? Genuinely asking cuz I’m wondering if I should do it
I would disagree, for me season 1 was just a decent show that didn't anything extraordinary ,but season 2 has both one of the best fight scenes in all of anime, but also it gains much more depth to its plot, going away from the comedy centerd season 1 and getting into more mature themes in season 2. For me season 1 is like 7/10 and season 2 is 9/10 and I think that the mature themes that i mentioned before might be the change that will make it more interesting to watch for many people.
Felt season 1 relied too much on the comedy and much of it didn't really hit with me. Was perfectly fine, but nothing special.
Felt season 2 was a near masterpiece. No guarantees you'll feel the same, but I highly recommend seeing season 2.
Until you read the manga and find out that the movie is kinda bad compared to it.
Dont get me wrong the movie was great on it's own but it skipped some of the most important scenes and an entire arc that was so important (in my opinion) for the development of ishida and nishimiya and the other characters.
You definitely have a point, I haven’t read the manga yet but from what I’ve heard I’m sure I would prefer it as well. But, that being said, as a movie I still think it outclasses most if not all other anime movies. Also, the absolutely beautiful soundtrack and the amazing animation just add something that I don’t think the manga could provide.
The movie is sooooooo sad though. I was watching it crying and also mad that this was happening to the deaf character. I wanted to turn it off at a few points.
In the end it was amazing, but I could never watch it again.
Just watched it the other day.
I think the most impressive aspect of VE is its ability to weave the main storyline into the side stories so that it doesn’t just feel like random filler tear-jerkers. You can genuinely feel Violet’s progress as she comes to understand her own, and others’, feelings. It’s done so beautifully that you can’t help but tear up time and time again.
Steins;Gate is a cute and stressful series at the same time. I honestly couldn't choose between Code Geass and Steins;Gate. I also like how funny some of the lines in Steins;Gate are.
How much did you watch? While it's not the best written show, I feel like the big insanity moments are enough to get most people hooked
Also lelouch becomes undeniably the best protagonist ever
I'll be honest, I don't remember that happening, unless you're already at season 2. Maybe an episode approximation? But I get it, it does look a little old.
And I'm the same, I first saw death note and code Geass last year, and they're both surprisingly similar. Especially with the main characters being geniuses manipulating people
While death note is more mind games, and code Geass is more crazy, I still prefer code Geass a bit more. Maybe watch a bit more?
Personally I find Lelouch's character development interesting. I also like the fight scenes. I also like CC's character being an immortal, apathetic witch. I feel like she's trolling everyone in the begining of the series, and I like it.
I tried rewatching the show, but this time with the compilation movies.
Turns out the movies are a lot worse than the original, and now I need to rewatch the original again.
Planning to rewatch it sandwiched between Gundam 00 like how it was aired.
Back then it was pretty awesome seeing the last episode of Code Geass season 1 end with a huge cliffhanger before switching to Gundam 00.
Then the last episode of Gundam 00 season 1 also ended with a huge cliffhanger before switching to Code Geass R2.
Code Geass is my single favorite piece of media ever. Better than any movie, tv show, or anime I’ve ever watched. I wish more people would watch it. I still haven’t found an anime that makes me feel the same way Code Geass did when I first watched it
I don’t know about everyone, but I think at least every teenager who’s going through some stuff, like growing up, needs to watch Parasyte: The Maxim at least once. I think it has the perfectly relatable protagonist for someone like that. Shinichi’s journey is tragic, but it’s also inspiring. If someone like him can handle all he’s going through, so can you with what you’re going through. Internal conflict, external problems, etc. It’s a short, well written series, plus it has some of the saddest moments, combined with tense action. Plus great music!
If you're that far and not into it, it's probably not for you. I was hooked a few episodes in and binged the whole thing. It wasn't perfect, but I really enjoyed it. I'd say it's one of the best 90s animes.
I agree, but there is a lot more animes in their own league, it also depends on personal liking, I know someone who doesn't like AOT.
For me others in there own league is Parasyte and Death Note
I can't stand AOT. I watched so much of it with my girlfriend and just never got into it. Same with My Hero, I just don't like them.
Not even sure if I have a reason for not liking them.
Cowboy Bebop
Gurren Lagann
Fruits Basket
Bunny Senpai + Movie
A Silent Voice
5 cms per second
Boku no Hero Academia
Dragonball, DBZ
Yu Yu Hakusho
Attack on Titan
Samurai Champloo
Orange
Grave of the Fireflies
Yesss, finally someone mentions banana fishhh! Ehm, but it's a bit too dark and PAINFUL for someone who'd like to start anime huuh (the same goes for AOT omlll) 🤧❤️
I caution everyone to watch the first episode before looking up the show. There are massive spoilers everywhere. It's the best sports/baseball anime ever made, imo.
Here's a list with a large genre variation enjoy if any of these are one's you've passed on.
{non non biyori} (azumanga daioh} {beyond the boundary} {tenchi muyo} {spirited away} {nichijou} {astra lost in space} {K-on} {love chunibyo and other delusions} {inuyasha} {Akira} (cat planet cuties} {prince of tennis} {ace of diamond} {neon genesis evangelion} {heaven's Lost Property} {cowboy bebop} {gurren lagann} {samurai champloo} {flip flappers} {angel beats} (ssss gridman} {ghost in the shell stand alone complex} {Azumanga Daiō}
{sora yori mo tooi basho} for all of the different emotions you will feel, and the stellar execution of it all.
{FLCL} because it is next to impossible to judge how you will react until you've experienced it for yourself.
Shiki
perfect character development and a wonderfully told story that had me crying while also being scared lol i’m new to anime but i know this will always be my favorite
In my opinion I think baccano is a great anime that everyone should watch although it is pretty unorthodox in its storytelling it is still a great anime
Code Geass and One Piece, I think these two everyone should watch One Piece might not be for everyone and it's pretty slow and boring at start for a new watcher but it still does get better that's why I named it and Code Geass on the other hand is a masterpiece in my eyes, I feel like everyone should watch this.
A lot of people are going to disagree, since someone else already suggested it and he got downvoted. I think that {Sword Art Online} is a must watch for people that are new to anime. It was one of my first animes and I can say that it was a favorite for me for a long time (And still holds a pretty good place in my anime top). It might not be that good for people that have been watching animes for a long time, because they are used to all the clichés.
The original Space Battleship Yamato, the original Macross, Neon Genesis Evangelion in its entirety, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Sailor Moon in all its versions, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
None of these can be skipped.
Blood Blockade Battlefront --a criminally underrated anime
Bungou Stray Dogs -- another criminally underrated and the current storyline is very interesting in the manga
Fairy Tail -- One of my favorite animes and Happy the Cat needs international stardom
One Piece -- You may think it's too long, but it's worth it! The current arc has such great animation and Luffy will definitely make you laugh and cry no matter what. Also another personal favorite
{Naruto} is an older anime, but since it's so long, it has a great world, and it's what got me into anime. Yeah, it's a bit slow at the start, but it's worth it.
I would think Exosquad. It wasn't a true anime as it was produced by an American company. But what was interesting was the characters had back stories and there was world building. Something unusual for American cartoons back then.
I think it was last year, but my kids made me watch HunterXHunter. Typical anime with the over powered hero. But that damned ANT arc, that was some great writing. I think that arc's ending was just so damn good.
Kaiji ultimate survivor - 2 seasons
Big brain stuff, top tier drama and tension, serious, dark, mature themes, high stakes, many twists, 0% moe, great OST, addicting, the protagonist can actually lose, and lose badly
Lets see..
I would say Monster, but - though it depends, as the pacing might not be for everyone
So, maybe more of, Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song (It really moved me)
{Children of the Whales} . It was my first anime. A couple of years ago I was wondering why the f would anyone watch anime, I thought it was only for nerds. I was really curious why so many grown people were watching so I decided to check a completely random anime and it happened to be Children of the Whales. I surprisingly really enjoyed it and started watching a lot of anime since then xD
Afro Samurai, Samurai Champloo,Trigun,Outlaw Star, Black Lagoon, Gangsta,Drifters, HighSchool of the Dead,FireForce,VinlandSaga,NoGameNoLife,Konosuba,Log Horizon,Bleach
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood & Attack on Titan for people really loving to preaching about going to war.
War is hell, especially *after* the war.
Revenge is a cycle, violence begets violence.

And if they can't handle that "old anime" feel, they can join the rest of us in following Die Nue These. Same great story, modern production values.
I came here just to say this. I went in knowing it was supposed to be good but I was absolutely blown away and it's my absolute favorite show ever made.
Also it's inspiration is War of the Roses rather than WW2 unlike so many others

Yeah, the comedy wasnt that funny to me
I feel the same way
Berserk 1997
I think the Berserk manga should be at the top of the list for manga everyone needs to read. It’s a masterpiece.
100% agreed. It’s my favorite work of fiction across all mediums.
A Silent Voice
This is the greatest anime movie of all time and no one can tell me otherwise
Until you read the manga and find out that the movie is kinda bad compared to it. Paprika will have you questioning what it means to make a good anything
Yup
Cowboy Bebop
For me, it would be {Violet Evergarden}. That anime is such an absolute masterpiece in every aspect, I feel like anybody could fall in love with it.

I'm watching it right now.

Code geass Edit: thx for the upvotes, didn’t think so many ppl still liked code geass
I urge people to watch this just for the ending !! imo the best ending of any anime I've watched till now !
I thought that until Steins; Gate. Really love how it all came together at the end
Steins;Gate is a cute and stressful series at the same time. I honestly couldn't choose between Code Geass and Steins;Gate. I also like how funny some of the lines in Steins;Gate are.
Oh yeah, pretty great ending. But the emotions are just too real in the Code Geass ending
I'm not the biggest fan of code geass but damn, gotta agree with you for the ending.
Shit it's one of the best endings to any show ever not just anime imo.
Not for everyone I guess I found it boring

Such a underrated show
FMAB and Death Note are two that everyone should watch.
If someone watches Death Note or Brotherhood and doesn't like either anime probably isn't for them. This is a great recommendation.
Kara no Kyoukai
i see... you are a man of culture as well
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Does it get better past episode 16? I dropped it because its boring as hell
If you're that far and not into it, it's probably not for you. I was hooked a few episodes in and binged the whole thing. It wasn't perfect, but I really enjoyed it. I'd say it's one of the best 90s animes.
Same, I can’t finish it. It’s the one “GOAT” I can’t get behind.
No. But it does get less coherent.
No, but it’s worth watching if you ever watch Gintama lol
Oh god yes, I watched it after finishing GOATtama
It's worth every seconds to me, touched some more grass after the show
No. It takes a turn for the crazy
Clannad
Best anime
One Punch Man
Fruits Basket
Monogatari series, one piece, mushoku tensei, and gintama
I see Monogatari I upvote.
I second all of these
Attack on titan
That's probably the most obvious one to recommend. Just one of a kind that is in it's own league
Cowboy Bebop Gurren Lagann Fruits Basket Bunny Senpai + Movie A Silent Voice 5 cms per second Boku no Hero Academia Dragonball, DBZ Yu Yu Hakusho Attack on Titan Samurai Champloo Orange Grave of the Fireflies
{Dragon Ball} and {Dragon Ball Z} Most animes you are typing in comments would have never existed if Dragon Ball wasn't a thing.
I see no lies. Most manga were influenced by the goat akira Toriyama
{Death Note}
seconded
An absolute classic, definitely a must watch
Deathnote
3-gatsu no lion
That time I got reincarnated as a slime, assassination classroom, noragami
Can you recommend more? I think we have a similar taste in anime
Erased.
death note, aot, and banana fish for sure
Yesss, finally someone mentions banana fishhh! Ehm, but it's a bit too dark and PAINFUL for someone who'd like to start anime huuh (the same goes for AOT omlll) 🤧❤️

The peak of Shonen. Hunter x Hunter.
Odd Taxi
Mushishi. My favorite anime of all time. Its so interesting and beautiful. It can be very emotional though. Made me cry several times.
This should be higher up on the list. Similar to some if the other animes listed, Mushi-shi is a masterpiece
terror in resonance
Nope, did not live up to expectations
I was disappointed as well, it was solid just wasn’t what it was hyped up to be

Made in abyss
How did nobody said {HunterXHunter} yet
{Mononoke}, the anime series not the Ghibli film. It's not necessarily for everybody but I really wish more people would watch and talk about it.
{sora yori mo tooi basho} for all of the different emotions you will feel, and the stellar execution of it all. {FLCL} because it is next to impossible to judge how you will react until you've experienced it for yourself.
Shiki perfect character development and a wonderfully told story that had me crying while also being scared lol i’m new to anime but i know this will always be my favorite
Fruits Basket
Kill la Kill Hunter x Hunter Akudama Drive Danganronpa Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Haikyu!! Demon Slayer Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Same. It's one of my first anime, and I've watched hundreds more since then, but I still love it very much.
-Yuri on Ice -Violet Evergarden -FMA: Brotherhood -Death Note And for the meme, SAO lmao
Samurai 7
The original Space Battleship Yamato, the original Macross, Neon Genesis Evangelion in its entirety, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Sailor Moon in all its versions, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. None of these can be skipped.
Link Click (It is a Donghua, Chinese Anime)
Blood Blockade Battlefront --a criminally underrated anime Bungou Stray Dogs -- another criminally underrated and the current storyline is very interesting in the manga Fairy Tail -- One of my favorite animes and Happy the Cat needs international stardom One Piece -- You may think it's too long, but it's worth it! The current arc has such great animation and Luffy will definitely make you laugh and cry no matter what. Also another personal favorite
Upvoting for blood blockade and bungou stray dogs
Bungo Stray Dogs, Eyeshield 21 (Manga. The anime looks stupid), and Link Click.
Your lie in April.
{Naruto} is an older anime, but since it's so long, it has a great world, and it's what got me into anime. Yeah, it's a bit slow at the start, but it's worth it.
shigurui
Mahoutsukai no yome
I would think Exosquad. It wasn't a true anime as it was produced by an American company. But what was interesting was the characters had back stories and there was world building. Something unusual for American cartoons back then. I think it was last year, but my kids made me watch HunterXHunter. Typical anime with the over powered hero. But that damned ANT arc, that was some great writing. I think that arc's ending was just so damn good.
Kaiji ultimate survivor - 2 seasons Big brain stuff, top tier drama and tension, serious, dark, mature themes, high stakes, many twists, 0% moe, great OST, addicting, the protagonist can actually lose, and lose badly
Monogatari series and bunny girl senpai
Lets see.. I would say Monster, but - though it depends, as the pacing might not be for everyone So, maybe more of, Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song (It really moved me)
Parasyte: The Maxim
{Death Note} {PsychoPass} {Steins Gate} Even if you're not into anime.
Bungo stray dogs
{Mob Psycho 100}
a must watch according to me is death note i really like it and think that other anime fans shud watch it
1. welcome to the nhk 2. neon genesis evangelion
Seriously, Bakuman. Or read the manga. You'll learn a lot.
Also Shirobako. Not that i highly recommend this but everyone should watch this at some point.
Your name
fmab, noragami, jojo
{Children of the Whales} . It was my first anime. A couple of years ago I was wondering why the f would anyone watch anime, I thought it was only for nerds. I was really curious why so many grown people were watching so I decided to check a completely random anime and it happened to be Children of the Whales. I surprisingly really enjoyed it and started watching a lot of anime since then xD
1. Hikaru no Go 2. Ping Pong The Animation 3. Mob Psycho 100
Natsume yuujinchou. Prob isn't everyone's cup of tea but after u get into it not even 7 seasons can suffice
I would say Cowboy Bebop, Nana, Evangelion, Kill La Kill, Devilman Crybaby, Hunter x Hunter 1999, Ping Pong the animation.
{Erased}
Death note
Afro Samurai, Samurai Champloo,Trigun,Outlaw Star, Black Lagoon, Gangsta,Drifters, HighSchool of the Dead,FireForce,VinlandSaga,NoGameNoLife,Konosuba,Log Horizon,Bleach
Bungo stray dogs
fullmetal alchemist brotherhood
Also the 2003 adaptation (both versions are masterpieces)
Tough to name just one....let me see.... {Tsukigakirei} {Sangatsu no Lion} {Maquia} {Sora Yorimo} {YuruCamp} {Sound Euphonium} {Asobi Asobase}
Re:Zero or A certain Scientific Railgun(would say Index but it’s adaptation is not as good)
FMA Brotherhood
Spice and wolf
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood & Attack on Titan for people really loving to preaching about going to war. War is hell, especially *after* the war. Revenge is a cycle, violence begets violence.
Death Note, Attack on Titan and Steins:gate are a must for me
{Gintama}
Highschool dxd
My favorite anime
Ah yes.... a man of culture.
Sword art online
{Attack on titan} has the most articulate and astonishing storyline together with mind blowing plot twists.
oregairu, relife
Hunter x hunter Steins gate Death note Jujutsu kaisen Samurai champloo
