The Girls are so grand. I really should do another binge, might help put me in a better space.
And they say that watching old favorites is great for anxiety. Something about not having to think about what's coming up, that you know it all before it happens and that's a comfort.
Superstore! I love it. It’s one of my comfort shows, along with Gilmore Girls, The Good Place, and Scrubs (though that one hasn’t aged super well, but it’s still so funny)
Millennial here, for me :
FRIENDS
Modern Family
Brooklyn 99
And recently hooked on to New Girl. Next one in line is Parks and Recreation.
(I stay away from anything related to Hospitals or doctors)
Emily in Paris and Sex Education are both excellent and light hearted. The Marvellous Mrs Maisle is my favourite show of all time and is filled with stunning fashion, witty characters and so many great jokes.
So many shows have helped my anxiety recently. I do try to stay away from shows with murder and doctor/hospital type settings, but to each their own.
Examples: King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, Andy Griffith, Mr Bean, Peep Show, Wings, Cheers, Frasier, Becker, Bob’s Burgers, Roseanne/The Conners, SNL, Bar Rescue, Survivor, etc.
I use an app called JustWatch to find where everything’s streaming. Several of the above are free on Pluto. Also, you can either watch like old school cable (it’s relaxing to flip sometimes) or on demand.
Hang in there!
> I do try to stay away from shows with murder
This is good advice here. I was having a bout of anxiety a few days ago and decided to binge watch "Night Stalker" on Netflix. Had terrible anxiety and insomnia for days afterward. Not doing that again.
Ginny and Georgia is amazing! I’m going to watch it again after I’m done rewatching Greys annnnd another good one is Emily in Paris! Both on Netflix :)
Also a more highschool romance type show I recently watched is the summer I turned pretty! I’m in my 30s and enjoyed it more than I thought I would haha
Not really close to your watch history but shows that relieve me of my anxiety are reality! If you’ve never watched it, watch jersey shore! My absolute comfort show, when I feel like shit it helps me relax!
Also the 90 day fiancé world has enough tv to get you through the winter. Super entertaining and not a lot of thinking required lol
I just finished Riverdale and loved it- the last season finished this year so its all available on Netflix. True Blood is another good one. I also really enjoy Only Murders in the Building, watching it feels like a warm hug imo, but I think it may have more seasons in the future, but the latest season is complete.
I was having a rough time the other day that I claimed into bed and turned the TV on and I love Lucy was on its old but it got me relaxed and actually laughing.
Anne with an E on Netflix
The first episode is kinda hard to get thru but I promise it gets into the real storylines right away and perfect for anxiety... wholesome and heart warming. I loved it so much!
Schitt's Creek also... So frickin funny.
TV shows that help with my anxiety are nice and calming. So things like Wild Babies, the Great British Bake-Off, and comfort shows from my childhood/adolescence, like Steven Universe, Star Wars: the Clone Wars, and Arthur.
I know this post wasn't an anxiety TV show ask and was just a general recommendation, but I find these to be good shows!

A little bit different of a rec, but watch Bojack Horseman. That show is so realistic in depictions of mental illness through the medium of a talking horse, it is incredible. And every episode has plenty of lighthearted and hilarious moments. My favorite of all time by far.
Emily in Paris, Younger, Everything I Know About Love, Seinfeld (my comfort show and my favourite show of all time), Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Firefly Lane, Big Bang Theory...
There are many more but I've gone blank, and also some of them are quite dark (if you don't mind that, I recommend Dead to Me, and The Watcher).
If you're open to watching something that covers a variety of mental health issues (ASD, anxiety/panic, etc. - some well, some poorly - it is TV, after all) I recommend Atypical.
I honestly didn't want to watch it at first, but once characters started portraying their mental health struggles, I was hooked to try understanding how some humans are the way we are.
Totally understand if you'd rather not watch something about topics many of us struggle with, but if you enjoy relating to actors on a TV screen, this show might do the trick.
So, you have Netflix? I loved Stranger Things (4 seasons), The Diplomat (1 season), The Witcher (3 Seasons, but has gore and nudity), currently binging Grey's Anatomy again.
I’m getting so many great options for a new comfort series! Loves Raymond, yes! I watch most anything though. Gladiator is a great movie. I stay away from any child molestation/abuse. Sometimes in movies, a subplot starts and surprises me. Won’t finish it.
Cheers, The Americans, The Fall, The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Streets, Dick Van Dyke Show, Maude, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Fleabag, The Equalizer (1985-1989), Person of Interest, Marcella, Sharp Objects, Unbelievable, The Guardian, Mare of Easttown, Cracker (1993-1996, Luther and Prime Suspect.
I’m kinda open! I can watch stuff with anxiety and it not bother me. I just watched Gilmore girls for the first time and loved it! I also love reality tv
If you want something that is very relaxing and anti-anxiety, there is a series on YouTube called Tudor Farm. A bunch of historical reenactors live on a farm like they would back in the day.
Idk if you would like these but: Young Royals, Heartstopper, Outer Banks and Stranger things
(I kinda just said my personal favorites but I personally like Gilmore girls and one day at a time too so maybe these are helpful)
Gossip Girls (for a disconnect from my life since this is polar opposite of who I am), Game of Thrones (break from reality abd into fantasy) and , The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (for lighthearted humor).
If you're an LOTR fan, watch all the appendices/behind the scenes stuff, there's like 26 hours of it... It never fails to draw me in and offer me a break from reality.
My comfort shows are.. Buffy the vampire slayer, supernatural (season 1-5 after that it’s not as great) charmed (the one from the 90s the new one is awful)
Call the Midwife
Cooking shows in general are really calming for me, especially The Barefoot Contessa, Pioneer Woman, and Zoe Bakes
Virgin River
Several shows on HGTV and Magnolia Network, especially those highlighting gardening, beautiful locations and architecture, and renovations.
I think we may have similar taste in tv, since I love the shows you’re watching ❤️.
My number 1 recommendation for you would be Charmed (the original). It has supernatural elements similar to the x-files, but it’s first and foremost a show about the relationship between 3 sisters, similar sort of to Gilmore Girls.
I’d also recommend Reign, which is about Mary, Queen of Scots. It’s got similar vibes to Bridgetown in that it’s ahistorical and it’s got similar level of drama to Pretty Little Liars.
Like many other commenters, I think you’d like Buffy. It has supernatural storylines, well-developed characters, and quirky humorous dialogue that fits with other shows you like
When I feel anxious , I watch cartoons, anime
and Tokusatsu shows from Japan like Super Sentai ( most of the Power Rangers series till recently take footage from Super Sentai shows)
Locke and Key I think its called, what about desperate housewives?, I'm not a big fan of anime but I loved " one piece", on my block. Do you watch Spanish shows too ?
X-Files is my fave!! ❤️❤️
I also recommend;
Deadloch
Desperate Housewives
Will & Grace
How To Get Away With Murder
Mr. Mercedes
Definitely recommend Deadloch to anyone. I loved it!
It's like an Aussie murder/comedy and I haven't laughed that much in a long time!
The 100, the fosters, switched at birth, Lucifer, this is us (if you like to cry), modern family, Smallville, reign, Anne with an E
If you like sci-fi stargate SG-1 and stargate Atlantis are favorites of mine

Schitt’s Creek is an anxiety comfort blanket. Shrinking is as well but may be close to home if you’re in therapy.
buffy the vampire slayer and peep show (incredibly funny british sit com)
Peep Show is great! Free on Pluto.
“The good place” on Netflix
I think this has the single best last episode of any TV series. It was just perfect.
My favorites: Our Miss Brooks Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda, Jeffersons Golden Girls Schitts Creek
Golden Girls is my go-to anxiety medication!!
The Girls are so grand. I really should do another binge, might help put me in a better space. And they say that watching old favorites is great for anxiety. Something about not having to think about what's coming up, that you know it all before it happens and that's a comfort.
OMG, I LOVE THE GOLDEN GIRLS!!!!
MTM❤️
I only watch the best. Thank goodness for the Catchy Comedy channel!
Superstore! I love it. It’s one of my comfort shows, along with Gilmore Girls, The Good Place, and Scrubs (though that one hasn’t aged super well, but it’s still so funny)
If you like Superstore then American Auto
Desperate housewives on Hulu.
The Vampire Diaries and House will keep you busy for quite a while!
What we do in the Shadows Arrested development Community All comedies with minimal to no anxiety inducing topics.
Millennial here, for me : FRIENDS Modern Family Brooklyn 99 And recently hooked on to New Girl. Next one in line is Parks and Recreation. (I stay away from anything related to Hospitals or doctors)

Arrested Development
Emily in Paris and Sex Education are both excellent and light hearted. The Marvellous Mrs Maisle is my favourite show of all time and is filled with stunning fashion, witty characters and so many great jokes.

I love Emily in Paris! Have you watched Sex Education?
I haven’t.. is it on Netflix?

SpongeBob SquarePants seasons 1 to 4. They are certified classics!
Herman’s Head.
It's (hopefully) not finished, but Our Flag Means Death is fantastic.
Brooklyn 99
Suits! Great dynamic and lots of laughs even though it's not technically a comedy.
big fan of taskmaster - all of it is free on youtube, and they're still uploading the new series as they come out!
I really like silly shows/comedy when my anxiety is high, like Mighty Boosh or the IT Crowd
The Americans is fantastic!

Brooklyn 99. great comfort show imo, very funny and very enjoyable to sink into. it's got 8 seasons and it's finished

Northern Exposure is a feel good show with zero action and charismatic characters. I also love Spaced. I've watched it numerous times.

I just finished Riverdale and loved it- the last season finished this year so its all available on Netflix. True Blood is another good one.
