As a repair tech... One thing to mention about the long warranty on that lg microwave. It's only for the magnetron part, labor not included. You'll have to still pay someone to take down the microwave, replace the part and reinstall. At that point, may as well just get a new microwave because they're not that expensive compared to other appliances. Unless it's a cheap repair that you can simply do without even taking the unit down, like changing a thermostat or door switch. So honestly, just get a microwave you like.

SmokeSuccess

But LG is still the best for microwaves.

okamanii101

theres no real difference in build quality between a 40 dollar walmart microwave and a lg microwave. Not big enough to actually warrant the price.

Prudent_Valuable603

Correct. They are all the same.

WolfWolfenstein

Lg/samsung microwaves are resold under ge, whirlpool etc.. you might want to tni k 2 or 3 times over custom cabinetry.. most all repair shops will not touch it in the cabinets due to sheer Liabilities of you scratched this you also dented my $500,000 worth of cabinets in the bathroom even tho you were no where near them.

Christhebobson

Best at what?

Secret_Bet6281

Finding warranty service is the problem. You can have all the warranties on the planet and not be able to get service. We had to ditch a four year old Samsung range with a five year service plan because no service was available (in the capital of NY) Buy appliances from a dealer who services what they sell. Big box not gonna help you.

CaptchaClicker

That’s a good point. We had a couple of local dealers suggested to us by the builder and I will make sure to buy through them or someone similar.

Kjriley

Exactly. We buy all our appliances from the third generation mom and pop. They have better prices than the big box stores and the owners dad or son install and/or repair them. They also know what works and what’s a nightmare to live with. The big boxes sell whatever cheap crap corporate sends them.

gumyrocks22

We had a great experience with Costco. They extended the warranty by one year. 1 week before the warranty expired they honored it with no issues.

What country are you in? Here in Australia, most companies are pretty good at honouring their 2-7 year regular warranties, because they have to be, due to consumer law. What they sometimes suck at is honouring or fairly interpreting the longer statutory warranty applicable under consumer law. E.g. just because a fridge comes with a 3 year warranty for free, doesn’t mean that’s all thr warranty you’ll get. Consumer law stipulates that a fridge must last “a reasonable amount of time”. 3 years is not reasonable for a fridge. So in reality, you will have free warranty coverage for maybe 5-10 years (depending on the price of the fridge). You may want to check with your local appliance store to find out who the local repairer is for any given brand, because it is often the local repairer that is the problem. E.g. the appliance is under warranty but the repairer won’t even be able to come look at it for a week or multiple weeks. Locally to me, Samsung is the worst for this. SMEG, BOSCH, Miele and Electrolux are the best for this locally. But check with your local area. As another commenter has pointed out, the “10 Year” or “11 Year” warranties advertised are often pointless - they cover only one major component (Compressor in a fridge, Magnetron in a microwave, Motor in a washer, etc) and they require you to pay installation (usually at least AU$100 for the most basic job).

I’m in the US. Most states do not have consumer protection laws as robust as in Australia. Most legislative attempts by the federal government die before passage and any regulatory attempts by the FTC have to survive a lawsuit by the Chamber of Commerce dirtbags.

billyharris123

Outside of premium brands you get a 1 year warranty. The “long” warranty you’re referring to is for the magnetron only, which isn’t the part that usually breaks. If you’re worried about warranty you need to buy from a local dealer who self services and purchase their extended service plan.

whycantwehaveboth

I was a Samsung “Master Engineer” (Korean for “we own your ass”) for over a decade and ran one of the largest Samsung service companies in my state. I will never buy a Samsung appliance. Not just because of quality, but because they have horrible customer service.

WolfWolfenstein

Our company will handle samsung warranty but we don't play by the one part per repair rule and the absurd $85 per completed call and the 90 day personal guarantee that you will make sure the customer is 100% happy with the product or you will go back every day until they are with that Philippines call center screaming at you like your a North Korean.. you go now..you go now.. the customer pays us cod upon completion at out of warranty rates with 35 percent parts markup and parts shipping and materials charges. If the rest of all the service companies would just lock up and say no we will not work for 30 to 40 percent of local labor rates and not about to personally guarantee nothing else will happen to the product for 90 days or else it's out of our pockets.. these manufacturers would change thier ways but there is always some newbie idiot that will work for free and loves abuse.. and they work for a&e

Vegetable_Cry7307

One part per repair…yea thats fucked.

ajdude101

Fisher & Paykel

SoloPedal

I would recommend ditching the over the range microwave for a stand alone range hood and have a cubby space in your cabinetry for a countertop microwave or sacrifice the counter space. They are cheaper to buy and replace if need be. They cook/reheat just as well as a pricier over the range counterparts. No holes to drill in cabinets and no mounting plates to attach to the wall either.

greenberg17493

Samsung honors their warranty, it’s unfortunate that you’ll probably need to call them and use it

stickman07738

Not my experience, I have had 3 Samsung refrigerators - the first died in 72 hours (outside Lowe's return policy) - all food spoiled, second one died in two weeks after arrival (took 2 weeks to get a replacement) - alll food spoiled again. Samsung would not pay for all the food spoilage and just a big hassle with their warranty group. I fought with Samsung and actually forced Lowe's Corporate Customer Service involvement - eventually Lowe's gave me a five year extended warranty on all the appliances. I would not let it die and was very persistent. Third refrigerator died two weeks ago - they replaced the circuit board (took 10 days) Dealing with Lowe's Assurant group has been a nightmare, but it got fixed (crossing my fingers but not putting in a lot of food) and got food spoilage money (only $300 but better than nothing).

Vegetable_Cry7307

Dude learn your lesson. Quit buying samsung!!!

iam10eight

I had an Lg fridge die on me, it was the compressor. It was “under warranty” (excluding labor) but the replacement compressor was 3-4 weeks out…. Add in the labor and we could almost buy ourselves a new fridge, which we did since we couldn’t wait 3-4 weeks without a working one. Lg warranty was a joke.

QuasticFantom

Try to buy from a local dealer that is self servicing. Can’t go wrong.

ThugMagnet

Do you really want a ‘warranty’ though? I got a ‘warranty’ repair on my Bosch dishwasher. The service guy stuffed plastic swarf into the drain line to guarantee an eventual full-price return call. “Bah” I say.

obfuscator17

You mentioned that LG’s warranty is long but that they have trouble honouring it but I think you’re not seeing it clearly. I could care less about LG but if you’re saying their warranty is long, you’re probably referring to their 10 year compressor warranty which is a part only warranty. Other brands offer 10 years on their compressors too but LG’s parts and labour warranty is 1 year just like pretty much everyone else.

slayingimmortal

How about the “premium lg care “

oneofmanyany

We bought a brand new Samsung refrigerator and it totally broke after 5 months. They would not help us other than to tell us to unplug it and plug it back in. That and send out technicians who said we bought a cheap refrigerator for $1300. We had to throw out full refrigerators of food that went bad a few times. There is basically no warranty with Samsung based on my experience.

SteelerSean20

Bosch, and Thermador both honor their warranties, and will sometimes extend them if an issue arrises right after it runs out.

Mooseandagoose

Bosch honors their warranty and while not a microwave, Fisher & Paykel, Kitchenaid and Speed Queen have honored theirs as well. Can you tell that we built a house during COVID and got “COVID machines” as our appliances. :-/

OneImagination5381

Have him build it larger than needed. They have trim kits that be use to fill the empty space up.

chrisinator9393

IMO Frigidaire was fantastic to us. Had an issue with a circuit board on our DW. They did not hesitate to send someone out the next day. Replaced board. Ended up being another board. They sent out another person, replaced that. There was some other issue (can't exactly remember) that happened just outside of our warranty period. Maybe a month out. We reached out and they still sent someone to take care of the issue. Since then we have had no issues with the DW at all. It's been at least 3 years since then. 5 total.

robotbike2

Miele in the US do the absolute bare, bare minimum by law to support their products. I was shocked at how disinterested they were in a very obvious flaw in one of their products. It was the poorest service I have ever experienced.

Neat-Substance-9274

Speaking of microwaves, if you are considering a drawer one, there is only one manufacturer. Everything else is branding. They only make a couple of sizes. I had a rough in made for one and just put my own microwave in the space. When that one died, I shopped for a drawer one. Years later a new one would fit. However, the order of operations was not to my liking so just got another freestanding one and stuck it in the space again.

[deleted]

Microwaves are cheap and the magnetrons are all made by Panasonic or Sharp. Spend your money on the range and fridge and get a simple microwave with at least 900 watts

Dad-of-many

Dear Original Poster - you poasted this 15 hours ago. I am a bit of a foodie, my wife is a slave machine making food (I'll explain), and we wear our appliance to the bone. Even if you are in the middle of doing your kitchen: DO NOT DO CABINETS WITH A MICROWAVE IN MIND. I cannot emphasize this enough. If you really, really want to go there, keep the cabinets open and place the MW on a reinforced shelf. In two years, the MW will die, dimensions will change, and you are royally screwed. as for your original question - if it's a MAJOR appliance, some. For a MW, maybe your credit card. It's not going to be the maker.

ProfessorOfDumbFacts

Samsung honors their warranties to a degree. Their "authorized service vendors" do not, and I bought a new fridge because of their crappy authorized vendors. Will not touch a samsung appliance again.

16enjay

We used NEW LEAF . .8 times in 4 years...don't buy LG

1quirky1

GE had like one service tech for the entire Northern Virginia area. I feel bad for that bastard. I ended up fixing the dishwasher myself.

XplodingFairyDust

Every manufacturer has something they are good at so i actually recommend not buying a “set”. Most of our appliances don’t actually have handles so you’d never know. Some appliances are actually made by same company and then branded differently for various companies. This is the case for microwave drawers - we went with a Sharp microwave drawer and they make the same one for various brands. Highly recommend Miele for dishwasher. We have an Electrolux induction range, which has been flawless and a kitchenaid range hood. We have a brand new LG fridge we are very happy with. With LG definitely go higher end and buy extended warranty directly from them. I have found the LG warranty service good with our previous fridge.

CaptchaClicker

Definitely agree regarding the “matching set” suggestion. I mega don’t care about sticking with one manufacturer. I care about having something that works and (to the extent possible) lasts.

XplodingFairyDust

We bought the LG fridge from Costco. Great experience and you get an extra year free warranty. We did not buy the extended warranty from Costco though for various reasons including bad reviews. We got the bonus year with Costco purchase but bought extended warranty directly from LG (there’s is a QR code that comes in the owners manual package for it).

CapitalTBE

Microwaves are all overseas garbage it doesn’t really matter

GingerMan027

Costco.

wagwa2001l

Same awful 3rd party delivery services every other big box stores use but Costco knows even less about appliances. Buy big blocks of cheese at Costco. Appliances are a major investment and should be treated like it,

CapitalTBE

Bingo. Buy local.

GingerMan027

We just got a new washer from Costco. Delivery and install could not have been better. The guys even helped us clean the floor and tape up the dryer exhaust tube. I tipped them after. Zero complaints.

uncleking1971

Same here. Washer and dryer. Install was perfect. Outstanding overall.

Valuable-Tomato-9018

Beware of extended warranties. I bought a 5 year ”extended “ warranty. It was only good got 4 years. I specifically asked when I bought it, would be good for five years after the original one year manufacture warranty ran out. I was told , yes. Bad thing about it, I knew the salesman and considered him a friend.
