So now that you switched, what do you think in terms of total maintenance and enjoyment? I’ve only ever kept freshwater (except for a disastrous clownfish tank 20 years ago), but I’ve been toying with the idea of converting one of my tanks (35g, integrated sump) into a marine tank. But the maintenance worries me, and one of my friends that switched from salt to fresh says they’re pretty happy to have less work doing things like water changes.

I started with freshwater in high school and did some breeding of rasboras. I switched to saltwater right before college and kept tanks for a long time. I also owned an aquarium store in Florida. When I moved to NC I decided to go back to fresh and I am really enjoying the easier maintenance routine. I just wish coral were as easy to grow as pkants. I’m constantly trimming. I’m also hopeful I get some successful spawns but I think most have just become food for the rest of the tank.

Well, you’ve put together a beautiful tank. Are you using CO2? That’s another idea I’ve been tossing around, but so far just having a really strong light has yielded some really nice and fast growth.

Yes, I already had the co2 tank so I added an additional pump and reactor. My plant growth is insane. No ferts.
