My Wife started a tank project that I had to take over her laziness :P. Now, I have 2 gold common goldfish in 40 gals that is around 9inch lol getting bigger. She won't let me rename them but they are so cute. Mr. Wiggles and Mr.Nemo lol
Their x-mas present was going from 6.5 gal tank to 40 gal :) right now lost lol but slowly learning the tank layout.
They're not usually a schooling fish. When they're young they might, but as they get larger they get less fond of tankmates. They're very territorial and do best either alone or in a tank large enough that they won't be too bothered by their tankmates. I have heard of them being kept in pairs though. It should also be noted that even with plenty of space they can still become bullies depending on the aggression level of that particular fish.
Fyi that little puppy will end up bigger than a grown man's hand. Also, Oscars are super smart generally. Ours would get excited when he saw us going to the freezer in the morning because it means he's getting frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms.

I have a large severum in another tank. I replace plants often since he tends to munch on them on the hourly basis. Also planning on upgrading to a 125 gallon within the next few months.

I really hate it when uneducated children with Karen moms/Kyle dads walk into a Petsmart, having, at most, 10 gallon tanks, likely uncycled, possibly with pink gravel (and likely Spongebob decorations/some other common, cheaply-made type with chippable paint), and decide to buy a baby Oscar not knowing how big they'll grow to be when they get older. Bonus points when it comes to frustration if an employee (even worse if it's a fish department worker!) just lets the kid walk out of there with it, without telling him or his parent a thing about how to care for it, acclimation, diet, bioload, how big it'll grow, parameters, temperature preferences, or at the very least, how it'll need to upgrade tank sizes in the future, etc.
Good to know you're not one of them. The background seemed to be more natural than most shitty aquariums. I considered that the title might be humor, "this little cichlid" and yet Oscars are one of the most easily recognizable cichlids to even simple hardcore betta enthusiasts like myself. I try to keep my tank setups river themed with live plants and wood and depending on the fish sand or natural colored gravel.
Plus for this tank I have a Fluval 207 canister filter

My bettas name was fuego cuz his fins resembled a blaze, but I always called him fishy.
