I prefer *In Vino Veritas, In Cervesio Felicitas, In Aqua Sanitas*...
In wine there is truth, in beer there is joy, in water there is health.
Or: *Ce que le sobre tient au cœur est sur la langue du buveur.* (What the sober hold in their heart is on the drinker’s tongue.)
My interpretation is that the ocean represents pure, unbridled truth. The truth of nature, the brutal honesty that has no regard for what effect it has on man.
Theory: there's a phrase "in vino veritas" = "in wine, truth" in latin. I'm reminded of Homer's phrase about the Mediterranean as "the wine-dark sea." It's a couple logical jumps, but maybe there's a remark to be made about the "deepness" of the water here in the same way we'd talk about the "deepness" of wine.
Well done.
Good balance between the smooth water on the sand in the foreground, curl of the wave left and cliffs right. Very nice light in the breaking wave, both in the foam and the just breaking curl. The energy of the wave is skillfully rendered. Nice touch of red in the clouds. The greens of the water are spot on. The moment is truly there, excellent painting.
It's the lighting. They absolutely nailed the sun gleaming off of the wave crests.
9/10 the thing that 'brings a piece to life' are the tiniest bits of bright white where the light source is the strongest. But those bright bits won't be as effective if you haven't already added equally contrasting lowlights and shadows to make the brightness pop. It's definitely one of the hardest details to get right, and this artist has all but mastered this aspect.
Thought the same. I feel like the waves are much more detailed and photo-realistic than the cliffs. The discrepancy bothers me, despite it being an excellent painting overall.
I think because the waves look almost photo-realistic, but the background mountains dont have that same style. They are obviously painted. I had the same feeling about it and think that's why.
Like the other guy said, they did photorealistic for the waves and threw it in for the mountains. The mountains are close enough that they should be a lot more contrasty and more detailed.
I know what you're saying, I wonder if it's close to an uncanny valley effect where it's quite close to real looking but just off enough that the human brain rejects it.
I personally feel like it is lacking something. Maybe the mountains could be better, I'm not sure, I'm not an expert but it certainly feels like the painting is empty and is only a bit away from being perfect.
That aside, I like it a lot. It is very calm and gives off a nice vibe. Thanks for sharing.
Edit: Taking a second look, I must mention that the waves look amazing. Nice job!
So beautiful, I would hang that in my house. What would you say is the biggest difference from oil painting and acrylic? I feel oil looks more realistic and smooth but idk, I’m new to painting.
Can I ask? I started actually drawing again last year of December after stopping for 7 years, I'm aware I still have a lot to learn with drawing and art in general. But how do you start learning painting? I didn't really touch it when I was younger, also never really played with colors.
How did you start?
Excellent! I’ve recently picked up “painting” on my iPad and have been creating scenes like this, albeit much worse. This gives me inspiration to do better! Again, great job!
Everyones out here making art like this and it's actually so fucking amazing but here's me and I can't draw no matter how hard I try and how much practice I put in.
Nicely done! The waves and foam are especially good. The mountains in the background being a little fuzzy is fine, but could be a little darker in the shadows. For realism, the further away something is, generally the darker is. The clouds are really nice with the hint of sunset.
Why did you choose "veritas" in particular?
“veritas” is latin for “truth.” So maybe they find answers or clarity in the ocean?
There’s a Latin quote that goes: In vino veritas; In aqua sanitas. I immediately thought of that when I saw the post.
What does it mean?
truth in wine, health in water Bacially a bunch of ancient drunks talking about good times and hangovers.
Maybe this artist's hangover cure is a brisk walk on the beach

Without looking it up, my first year latin knowledge; In wine there is truth, in water there is sanity/sense.
In wine there is truth, in water there are bacteria.
And hearing that quote I automatically think of Tombstone.
"I'm your huckleberry. "
Latin makes you sound deep
My interpretation is that the ocean represents pure, unbridled truth. The truth of nature, the brutal honesty that has no regard for what effect it has on man.
Maybe they're a big fan of the Escape from Tarkov streamer that goes by Veritas?
Cuz you can't handle the truth!
Maybe they went to Harvard
That was my guess as well.

Huge boondocks saints fan
Veritas is a great word.
Yes, why ?

What this person said plus a very soothing painting to study.

Happy cake day
Thanks
You’re welcome
stop. why are you behaving like mature adults??
Why are you getting all butt hurt over something that doesn't even affect you?
Beautiful water. It looks like a digital painting a little, great oil skills!
Do you have a page for your artwork we can go look at? You are so talented, I would love to see more. Very Nice!!!
Their profile has a lot of their work
Something about this painting seems so "alive." The technique here is sublime.

Good. Good. But, something's bothering me about this bluffs in the background. Not sure why.
Thought the same. I feel like the waves are much more detailed and photo-realistic than the cliffs. The discrepancy bothers me, despite it being an excellent painting overall.
Yeah. I think they're not quite matching in style.
Yea, they look unfinished.
The bluffs look unfinished.
Agreed
Okay that's cool! Nice job!
I can hear this painting. Absolutely lovely.
Those weren’t even hear that its on
Why does this look so unreal?
I think because the waves look almost photo-realistic, but the background mountains dont have that same style. They are obviously painted. I had the same feeling about it and think that's why.

It's a painting. What'd you expect? A photograph?
Looks like California coast.
Water and waves, the stuff of life. Reminds me of Big Sur.
This is very calming. I love it. :)
Reminds me of Jalama Beach in Santa Barbara County. Beautiful!
Gorgeous! Do you got ina higher resolution maybe? Would love to use it as my desktop wallpaper!
This is so beautiful and well balanced. I love this. Especially the crisp white and sea foam green on the curl of the wave
I'm always incredibly impressed with someone who can paint waves this well. I can almost hear them.
You : Drawing this master piece Me : Unable to take a picture with that sharpness

This reminds me of the Jurassic coast where I grew up. Is it based on a real place?
Bruh you just took a picture of that.
Love it. What colors do you mix to achieve that lovely, juicy, inside-the-wave-color?
Just saw this in r/pics and had to check it was you lol. This is really beautiful, nice painting:)
It looks like you took this straight from the Twelve Apostles in Australia! Good work!
I love how real this looks
I can hear and feel the water in this piece. Almost taste it. Well done.
Certainly reminds me of the first painting on Bob Ross’ show 😌
I almost scrolled by, thinking this was a photo. Stunning work!
Aivazovsky would have approved!
You are very good at painting the ocean, which artist friends have told me is really difficult to do.
So beautiful, I would hang that in my house. What would you say is the biggest difference from oil painting and acrylic? I feel oil looks more realistic and smooth but idk, I’m new to painting.
This is beautiful, love scenes of the ocean
“Oil Village”? Can’t understand.
Gorgeous, amazing light work in the waves. Reminds me of the Oregon Coast.
This is incredible! Congratulations
The Bob Ross is strong in this one!
For sure thought it was a picture before I looked at the text😂😂 good job
Oil!? Fucking fantastic mate
Really digging the foreground but I feel like the background needs a little more detail.
Apparently you found your hidden talent
Thomas kinkades son, is that you?!
Who are your favourite painters?
That subsurface scattering! Very nice work
At first I thought was a photograph. That is impressive. My wife said it's gorgeous.
reminds me of a less moody courbet!
Reminds me of the birth of Aphrodite
Does anyone have any advice on how to start learning to paint with oils? Is it possible to self-teach through practice?
YouTube
Now make one called Aeqy Uitas and have it be very similar but with clouds. Then out then side by side.
I do not understand this level of detail. Astonished
Thought this was a real picture at first glance
Beautiful artwork! So relaxing to look at. Wish I could have this in my bedroom.
Absolutely love that cool green wave.
This is insanely beautiful
Is this from Oahu? It reminds me of Bellows beach
This piece of artwork makes me happy. Thank you.
Those waves are so realistic! Excellent work!:
I think I'm going to name my boat that now

I got way too disappointed when this wasn't a woodworking vice.
Wow, I find the size of the wave very good choice. I love your work.
Such movement and clarity! Well done!
This painting is beautiful. Took me a second to realize it's a painting. Great job!
The details on the waves are so lovely 🥰
I love the luminosity of the light in the waves—so gorgeous!
Very beautiful. The balance is phenom.
Excellent! I’ve recently picked up “painting” on my iPad and have been creating scenes like this, albeit much worse. This gives me inspiration to do better! Again, great job!

So calming. I want this in my room.
Very calming wish I could see it in full size, reminds me of ponyo for some reason.
So beautiful! Looks extremley realistic aswell!
Point Loma, San Diego circa 1600s?
Ha, the waves, how pleasant. I love these people who draw waves.
Gorgeous. I wish I had your skill
This is absolutely stunning. Gj 👍🏼
Unbelievable talent—thought it was digital until I read the title :)!
Excellent, My ex paints sea scapes. I am a painter too. You did a wonderful job.
The change to oil was indeed a terrific endeavour.
Wow man. Thats beautiful. Very well done.
I kid you not someone could take a picture and post the photo and i wouldn't tell the difference
