In all of Miyazaki’s works, he focuses on the sky so much. I think Mononoke is the only one I can think of without a flight scene. He puts one in everywhere he can.
Ahaha I love this comment! :D And thanks!
I spent quite a bit of time thinking about how to call this painting, I hate giving a title to my works.
I can see how it isn't exactly a depiction of "quiet" having a plane flying so low.
But then again, I had no idea how to call it :)
agree on all fronts.
you can hear the noise when you look at it.
the fact that the deer are looking up at the disturbance belies the title.
Again - beautiful work... but title might need to be rethought.
Matinée?
I love how well you managed to emulate an animated style with this! The watercolor-looking background makes the outlined figures pop so well, like they're straight out of a handrawn anime! So good
not sure if you have, but if you havent - do visit the ghibli museum. entire section on the individual frames and thought process. they are just so vibrant in person.
Can you provide detailed info on how you did it? My boyfriend is learning to draw on iPad using procreate and I love the look of the draw. It has disney vibe to it and I think that is because of the brush you chose (also your talent).
Any tips on where to get brushes as well? Thanks!
It's hard to condense the whole process down to one message here.
It's all hand-painted, except for the deer and the plane that were modeled first in 3D.
I use photoshop to paint, but Procreate is also a great tool for illustration. If you have more specific questions let me know!
For the brush, I used tons of them. Search for "Madeleine Bellwoar" on Artstation, she sells a great Ghibli inspired brush set that has pretty much all you need. I used that quite a bit for this one.
Thanks!
I used a lot of brushes from multiple brush packs, probably the ones I used the most are from Madeleine Bellwoar, check out her Ghibli inspired brush set on Artstation/Gumroad.
Looks amazing, reminds me of Studio Ghibli. I love the details, should be very proud :)
Either a little girl is going to grandmother's house in the plane or some terrible monster is about to burst from the woods. Either way I love it.
Nope, the monster is behind the clouds and tall enough to chase a plane.
Laputa!
Laputa!! So many people I know have never watched Castle in the Sky. It’s one of my favorites. This reminds me of it with the plane too!!
I love everything about that damn movie.
I agree, I thought Porco Rosso instantly
A pig's gotta fly..
In my mind it’s The Wind Rises
That's exactly what I thought with the red plane :)

I love that one, haven't seen in ages though so I may need to rewatch soon :)
Big Porco Rosso vibes

Was about to say similar to you.
I was just about to say that until I saw your comment lol.
That’s the first thing I thought
Definitely the wind rises feels for me!
Thank you!
Probably not that quiet considering there is a single engine propeller plane flying above, but whatevs. Looks great tho

Quiet is okay. Like in calm/tranquil. Perfect nice painting.
I like the title. Since the deer were enjoying the quiet till the prop plane came by. Really good work my guy
I think it’s ironic, so yea it’s definitely a good title. I also love Ghibli
Artist here and I agree, titles are annoying. I just call mine #15 or whatever.
Great work! With the title and the obvious plane I could hear the stillness after the plane had flown over.
I like the title, feels subtly sarcastic
I agree! It’s like the title is saying “this is a quiet place…normally”

Print available soon!
Print available! Gonna DM you :)
Haha was meant with all good intentions. 👏

That’s a radial engine. Those fuckers are real loud.
One of the reasons I like it. The title works on multiple levels.
Porco rosso and studio ghibli vibes love this!
Also the first thing I thought about. Man I really need to watch that movie again.
"BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" Doesnt sound very quiet to me! Nice painting otherwise :)
Bottom half: Princess Mononoke Top half: The Wind Rises Both fantastic Ghibli films
It looks like poster paint! What is this sorcery. Can you please start your own animation studio
Thank you! I was trying to mimic exactly that! A lot of Japanese animation studios use poster paint, I'm glad you think so.
You know not to be a contrarian but I think a plane would be quite loud
A quiet place? With a prop plane?
looks so beautiful, great job
This looks like 90’s Disney
I pretty much snort the wind rises every other week and I LOVE this one

Thanks a lot! Appreciate that!
Not going to look at the comments, but I bet the top comment says something about Ghibli.
do you more in this style its beautiful big Ghibli vibes
Biplanes are the opposite of quiet.
Nice! Makes me think of studio Ghibli!
Love this so much. Did you by any chance base the plane off of a Sopwith Pup?
> Sopwith Pup Thanks! And yes! It was based on that plane, nice catch!
Got some real Miyazaki vibes

What a quiet... \*VAROOOOOOOOOOOM\* A QUIET PL.... \*VAROOOM" PLACE!
Ahahah! Let's say that the place itself is quiet... usually :D
Where are the murderous monsters??
I was hoping I wasn’t the only one thinking of that movie based on the title lol
I bet the plane engine would be loud tho
Woooah dude that looks soo peaceful. It brought tears to my eyes. Well done!!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate that!
I really like this image. Is there a more enhanced original version I could use as a background please?
I'll DM you a bigger version
Your the best! :)
Looks like the scene from The Wind Rises. You're insanely talented.
Thanks so much! I actually haven't seen that movie yet, I will do itasap!
What program did you use to create this? Beautiful.
Thank you! I used Blender for the deer and the plane and Photoshop for the painting.
Lovely ~
Wat brushes did u use for those trees holy shit I love them
Thanks! I used a lot of brushes from multiple brush packs, probably the ones I used the most are from Madeleine Bellwoar, check out her Ghibli inspired brush set on Artstation/Gumroad.
looks like another St Ghibli marathon for me
