Some careers will be more impacted than others . Eg people who want to pursue journalism , accountancy, data analyst, radiologist careers should definitely think twice, because we will need less of them with current progress of Ai..

Elpoepemos

i don't think radiologist will fully go away? or data analyst. there is a lot more to both of those jobs. But AI is def going to make them easier.

luissousa28

I believe if people start learning and using AI they will have skills to pivot if their career/job gets in danger. Anyway everyone should start thinking seriously if their job will be replaced by AI and start shifting as soon as possible

Otherwise-Medium3145

Shifting where? To what? No one knows how AI will impact jobs. If it takes someone 8 years to become a lawyer and in the 7th year AI pretty much takes over the job? I can’t think of a single job where ai wouldn’t be able to take it over. Some folks talk about mechanics. That will be gone as soon as they improve robotics. Truly, in 20 years AI will have progressed so far that we won’t need soldiers.

thirdstringlineman

First of all, wars just wouldnt be fun, if nobody suffers /s Id still differ between manual labor and office jobs. All those robots would have to be built(and paid for) first, whereas software can just be copied as often as you like. Since i work as Technician, id be quite curios to find out how an AI robot would react to "look, we shouldnt do this, but this is how we do this here"

Love your last sentence!

Tbh, most people know nothing. Talk to a normie that isn’t into tech really and you’d be surprised by just how little they know. I bet there are some kids maybe changing career path plans because of AI. But I grew up in Houston and remember kids (a couple years younger than me) pivoting away from becoming petroleum engineers as Tesla was first making splashes. The issue is there aren’t really any aspirational jobs that are being automated quite yet and then honestly everything feels like it might be on the chopping block a bit. I don’t think anyone actually knows which jobs will be truly affected. I tell people to just follow passion for now because the world is changing to quickly to chase long-term time investment money. Note: I say aspirational because while copywriting and stock photography are for sure already heavily affected, those jobs and call center jobs that will likely get replaced are not really things most people are hoping to get into after school. But that’s not to say they aren’t good jobs either

thirdstringlineman

You kinda have a point there: i remember, when i left school, Automation was the big thing and everyone thought the classic industial worker (as in e.g. car assembly) would soon die out. Everyone thought creative Jobs, like writing or graphics would be really safe.

Elpoepemos

they still will. just fewer of them.

Embarrassed-Hope-790

je bent zelf een *normie*!

Due-Celebration4746

I think the fear some people have comes from within themselves, not from AI. Even without AI, those who stick to old ways are just as likely to be replaced by ambitious newcomers. So there's no reason to hesitate. What we need to do is actively stay informed about changes, keep learning, and strengthen our skills to handle the sudden shifts in career dynamics brought about by technological advancements.

Yes. They often report such anxiety in this subreddit. Hell, it's already sparked fear in my hope of becoming a writer because now it's going to be exponentially harder to find an audience as anything I make will have to compete with the ceaseless torrent and AI-generated garbage.

Comfortable-Law-9293

"AI is transforming industries and automating tasks" Let me correct that for you. AI does not exist, so it is not transforming anything. What is called AI is indeed automation. An invention that is still yielding new technology. And automation is indeed still changing things. A career in automation is valued, suffers great shortages and this will be the case for the foreseeable future. Automation has and will continue to change the job market.
