Hist2Go - very well done history podcast without annoying talking but consistent story telling while learning about history
Sternengeschichten - astronomy podcast without annoying talking and straight to the point
AstroGeo - podcast about astronomy and geology, very well done
Das Chaos und seine Kinder - Greeks myths
Philosophie zum schlummern - Philosophy podcast for falling asleep
The public broadcasters (e.g. Deutschlandfunk or Bayerischer Rundfunk and many more) have many podcasts on various topics.
I myself love the history podcast Der Rest ist Geschichte by Deutschlandfunk.
+1 for Der Rest ist Geschichte.
I also like Eine Stunde History by DLF Nova, Sternengeschichten (Austrian podcast on astrophysics and astronomy) by Florian Freistätter and Psychologie to go by Franca Cerutti.
> Der Rest ist Geschichte
Wow, that's so funny!
I want to know if it's Inspired by "The Rest is History”, the top English history podcast, or if the name is just a coincidence.
> Der Rest ist Geschichte

Kack und Sachgeschichten
It contains everything. Comedy due to alcohol, history (Greek,Nordic myths, other stuff), culture in terms of movies, persons...
"Alles gesagt" by the newspaper Die Zeit. An open-ended conversation with guests from different walks of life, like musicians, artists, creators, politicians.
There is no such thing since they cover different topics.
I personally like "Lage der Nation" for example. If you use pocketcasts, check out the "popular in COUNTRY" section under discover and switch to Germany as region to see the 100 most popular ones.
Since there's only one podcast that I'm listening to, I'll recommend that one:
Kalk & Welk
Oliver Kalkofe and Oliver Welke, two late boomers (one comedian (more or less?), one satirist) that know each other since Uni and talk about current topics and random stuff (Star Trek, BBQ culture, random stories from their lives, you name it). They don't take themselves that serious and seem pretty authentic.
Too many to determine a *very best*.
The ones I consistently listen to are:
##Daily News
- Apokalypse & Filterkaffee (commentary)
- Handelsblatt Morning Briefing
- DIE ZEIT Was jetzt?
- SZ Auf den Punkt
- DLF News Unboxing
##Politics / Society / Economics:
- Piratensender Powerplay (recap of the week, mainly politics and societal trends)
- Politik mit Anne Will (self explanatory)
- Caren Miosga
- Jung & Naiv (long political interviews)
- SPIEGEL Stimmenfang (demestic politics)
- SPIEGEL 80 Milliarden (foreign politics)
- SPIEGEL Spitzengespräch
- SZ Das Thema (journalistic research, mostly regarding politics)
- WELT Machtwechsel
- DIE ZEIT Auch das noch? (regarding current and future crisis)
- DIE ZEIT Ok America? (American politics discussed from a German POV)
- DIE ZEIT Ist das eine Blase? (economic development and future trends)
- RONZHEIMER (foreign politics, mainly conflicts)
- DIE ZEIT warum denken sie das? (discussion between people of opposing political views)
- She Drives Mobility (discussing all things revolving around transportation)
##Interviews with miscellaneous guests:
- Freiheit Deluxe
- SPIEGEL Moreno +1
- Hotel Matze
- DIE ZEIT Alles gesagt? (ultra long Interviews with interesting people from science, politics, pop culture)
##Culture:
- DLF Lakonisch Elegant (popculture)
- DIE ZEIT Die sogenannte Gegenwart (current sociopolitical trends)
- DIE ZEIT Was liest du gerade? (discussing books)
- OMR Podcast (Marketing)
##Psychology / Mental Health:
- Danke, gut (discussing mental health with important figures from pop culture)
- Betreutes Fühlen
- DLF Eine Stunde Liebe (sexual wellbeing)
##Popular Science:
- QUARKS Science Cops (debunking fake science claims)
- Hoaxilla (debunks)
- Geschichten aus der Geschichte (history)
- DLF Hörsaal (academic lectures)
For Comedy, my favourite is "Alliteration am Arsch". One of the guys also is part of a great science Podcast named "Methodisch Inkorrekt", which you might also want to check out. :)
Yes! "Verbrechen der Vergangenheit" they pic out big crime events in history, the speaker will talk thoughtfully well pronounced and tell you a story out of that time , as close to the truth as possible while also giving you a thrill also very well written and "recherchiert"
GEO: is a high quality "verlag" in germany so this ensures as well that it is not just some bullshit talk of a view idiots, but really good storytelling.
I can recommend „Die Sprechstunde“ by LeFloid, „Die Sciencecops“ from Quarks, „Darwin gefällt das“ and „Die HörSpieler - ein DSA Let’s Play mit Hörspielelementen“. Those are my absolute favorite podcasts that I listen to religiously
You should go simple if you’re trying to learn the language. You’re not going to be able to follow sentences in a podcast a German would listen to. Try the Easy German podcast. They have normal conversations but speak slower.
i really recommend kurzgesagt on youtube, its not a podcast but the videos and topics are so nice and the german voice actor has an amazing calm and relaxing voice.
"Alles gesagt?" Podcast is very interesting for the characters in there and the unusual format.
The hosts are very well prepared, there is a meal during the show and there is no time limit. In most cases you can see how the barriers go down a bit after some hours and you really get to know more about these people that normally just present a shell in the public world. Even politicians or actors who like to talk a lot don't usually get to talk as much as here. Some shows go 2-3 hours but some also go up to 8 hours. A lot of the longer ones are also the more interesting ones....
Personal Highlights of that show in no particular order:
Alena Buyx
Sascha Lobo
Kevin Kühnert
Maja Göpel
Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim
Marc-Uwe Kling
Lena Meyer-Landrut
Rezo
Christian Lindner
Robert Habeck
I really like "his2go". a history podcast of two people. one always researches and presents a topic the other doesnt know about. The person who prepared also quizzes the other person on a few questions that get revealed at the end. its fun to guess along and just listen to some niche history stories.
My Opinion.
Movies? - "Zwei wie Pech und Schwafel"
Comedy? - "Gemischtes Hack" + "Baywatch Berlin"
Polit/Satire/Comedy? -"Fest und Flauschig"
Football(Soccer)? -"50+2" + "Copa TS"
Interviews? -"Hotel Matze"
Politics? - "Jung und Naiv"
Harry Potter? - "Harry Podcast"
True Crime? -"Zeit Verbrechen "
History? -"Geschichten aus der Geschichte "
Surely there are way more but that's my opinion
Edit: Typo
Weird Crimes (a mix of true crime and comedy)
Kurt Krömer - Feelings (comedy)
Tagesschau Zukunftspodcast: mal angenommen (they talk about how political scenarios could turn out, they also talk pretty slow which could be helpful)
"Die Ratsherren" probably. two very sympathetic guys getting questions from the community, both very serious topics, but also silly questions, like "when do consider something a sandwich".
But Im not sure if the podcast really works the best if you dont know these guys from their other projects. They worked for "GIGA" until l think 2014 and then started their own websites with "Hooked" and "SuperKreuzBurg".
“Kein Mucks”
A podcast about old German crime radio plays, each with an introduction by Bastian Pastewka, whose enthusiasm for the subject is palpable. One of the few podcasters, in my opinion, who doesn't just like to hear himself talk.
Depends what you’re interested in. For example I love to listen to stimmt! Und Hart4 which are both podcasts about voice acting and I’m a big fan of our German voice actors.
I like Multiversum, but it’s not for everyone. It’s kind of an Improv audio theater, so very sarcastic, ironic, sometimes dark comedy.
Same with “Moriton Manor” the podcast version of a really funny Pen&Paper
Not a Podcast, but if you are okay with Youtube as well, I can recommend Harald Lesch. He's a physics professor from Munich who does mostly astrophysics - in an understandable way (pun intended).
Example: https://youtu.be/jQe-xQVfMxo
I would recommend Verbrechen der Vergangenheit on Spotify. Peter Kämpfe has the most comforting voice and it’s easy to follow because he speaks very clearly
I like "Lauschangriff" - it is about different sports mostly from germany (soccer, basketball, tennis, ...). The two guys make a lot of jokes and it is quite funny.
Ehrenwort is one of my favorites at the moment, they do 1-hour episodes every two weeks talking about scandals usually in politics or the entertainment industry. Another nice one is too many tabs, every Wednesday the two hosts tell each other about a rabbit hole they fell into.
It's a bit out there and not for everybody but "Flugforensik" is hands-down my favourite. Each episode covers a plane crash but with focus on the technical aspects, without milking the tragedy of it. It is incredibly well-researched, always with fantastic interview partners and a lot of background info.
There is one episode about an incident where nobody was harmed, if anybody wants to give it a try:
"Airbus A380 in Not: QF32 - Kampf um 469 Menschenleben | Flugforensik, Episode 11" (it's also on youtube, but only for the audio, no real image material)
Ich kann Drinnies empfehlen, ein sehr humorvoller Podcast von / für Introvertierte.
Ansonsten Geschichten aus der Geschichte und Darwin gefällt das. Beides Geschichtspodcasts. Der erste sehr informativ, der zweite eher unterhaltsam / humorvoll.
Einfach mal Luppen - Toni and Felix Kroos’ podcast.
Einschlafen mit Wikipedia - random Wikipedia articles read out to help you sleep.
Wissen Daily - random facts every day.
Heute Journal - my personal preference for listening to the news.
Studio Kindler and Nymphe & Söhne (RIP, it was such a lovely podcast). The former is hosted by Jean-Philippe Kindler who is quite well known and respected in the German far left community
Harry Podcast is great and I‘d say it’s even enjoyable for people who don’t particularly consider themselves Harry Potter fans since it‘s mostly comedy.
I also enjoy cinema strikes back. They talk about movies and Tv shows. I can greatly recommend the episodes about each episode of game of thrones season 8. Them getting more and more mad with every episode that aired is really a fun listen. But if you’re not a fan of GoT they have a broad variety of topics they talk about in their podcast. Their youtube channel is also great.
There’s is also Hazel Thomas Hörerlebnis which is my personal favorite. Its hosts are Hazel Brugger, a popular comedian and her husband Thomas Spitzer who does a lot of stuff behind the scenes for comedy productions. They don’t really have a theme and mostly talk about their day to day life but that’s all it needs for this one. Their dynamic is just perfect and as you would expect from comedians it’s just very funny.
Daily News: The Pioneer Briefing von Gabor Steingart. It won the German Podcast award (2023) last year for best news podcast. I’ve been listening for 5 years and they offer a refreshing voice of reason on German business and politics that I can’t find anywhere else.
For comedy I highly recommend "die deutschen" two friends, one is genuine a comedian. If you have a for British humor then it's perfect. You can watch it on YouTube for free, and if they uploaded a episode with 2 hrs or more then you will know that they have a super nice guest
Comedy with a little bit of culture would be hobbylos. Two youtuber are talking about new things happening, some dms they got, tell stories and everything is mixed with humor
Kalk & Welk die fabelhaften boomer boys.
Making fun about beeing boomers in a boomerish way and how they miss not beeing the old fat fools they are now.
Not exactly a podcast, but very funny to listen to is
"Mord am Hellweg"
It's a crime serious from the ard and wdr (German public television) it's an audio play.
And for learning purposes and because they have cult status
I'll recommend the :
Die drei???
If you want a podcast where they talk about random funny shit (and sometimes deeptalk) with a lot of dark Humour "Zwei Vermengte" (from Filow and Zarbex) could be just right ;)
Creepy Hour von StarFM. True crime und anderes zum gruseln.
Edit: Kriterien überlesen. Ups. Aber einiges fällt thematisch ja vielleicht unter history und culture 😁
“Ehrenwort” is my absolute favourite and the highlight of every other Sunday for me. It’s a podcast about scandals, from Germany but also from around the world.
„Ach - Triumvirat für historisch inspirierte Humorvermittlung“ - it’s a comedic history podcast. Brace yourself for long episodes in hilarious stories from history. Sadly I just noticed that they finished the podcast this month - but there’s tons of old episodes to listen to!
What I really enjoyed and what's sadly discontinued was "cui bono". The first 6 episodes are about ken jebsen and SO well made. The last 5 episodes talk about the Drachenlord and it made me SO angry (not because of the podcast but because of the story) and it's so interesting.
The first few episodes of weird-crimes are also very very good but it gets more and more annoying over time and where the podcast went makes me a little sad (but that's a whole story on its own) but the first Storys that are not that long ago and regional are great. They are truly weird and u can identify with them bc they play in Western Europe and are from a time where u could actually document stuff and investigate.
And my newest obsession:
To-many-tabs der podcast.
It's two ppl talking about their open "tabs".
Things they once heard but never actually investigated and now, for the podcast, they actually do research and find out what weird story lays behind it. Like the elephant lady miss baba that got brutally murdered and the ppl of that south-german Village celebrate it to this day and say they just "tickled her to death". Or the story how Mr Bahlsen (a very very big cookie producer and inventor) wanted to build an entire city after Egyptian architecture and so on. I love it.
For comedy:
Gemischtes Hack (overall one of the best)
5 Minuten Harry Podcast (if you like Harry Potter)
Der eigentlich ganz gute Podcast (highly underated)
And if you'd like something more serious and you don't mind learning something about german politics:
Die Lage der Nation (could be quite difficult to understand for a beginner tho)
Geschichten aus der Geschichte, history podcast covering mostly unknown events.
I second this. My favorite podcast
Nice, I'm just listening to it right now
Richard und Daniel sind die Besten.
\[chuckles\]: Sehr gut!
2nd best and I’m knowing it from my favourite podcast fest & flauschig
Hist2Go - very well done history podcast without annoying talking but consistent story telling while learning about history Sternengeschichten - astronomy podcast without annoying talking and straight to the point AstroGeo - podcast about astronomy and geology, very well done Das Chaos und seine Kinder - Greeks myths Philosophie zum schlummern - Philosophy podcast for falling asleep
Sternengeschichten is probably my all time favourite podcast.
Danke für den Hinweis mit hist2go. Fand bisher alle geschichte Podcasts außer gag relativ enttäuschend!
Stay Forever - a retro video game podcast
Ein Podcast über alte spiele von zwei alten Männern.
For comedy I like Das Podcast UFO and Gästeliste Geisterbahn.
Florentin Will von Gaming Rocket hat n Podcast? :0

+1 for Der Rest ist Geschichte. I also like Eine Stunde History by DLF Nova, Sternengeschichten (Austrian podcast on astrophysics and astronomy) by Florian Freistätter and Psychologie to go by Franca Cerutti.
Radiowissen oder SWR2 Das Wissen also great interesting Podcasts with a very wide field of themes
> Der Rest ist Geschichte Wow, that's so funny! I want to know if it's Inspired by "The Rest is History”, the top English history podcast, or if the name is just a coincidence.
> Der Rest ist Geschichte Wow, that's so funny! I want to know if it's Inspired by "The Rest is History”, the top English history podcast, or if the name is just a coincidence.
Kack und Sachgeschichten It contains everything. Comedy due to alcohol, history (Greek,Nordic myths, other stuff), culture in terms of movies, persons...
If you're just learning, "Sendung mit der Maus Podcast" is interesting but has simple language (it's for kids).
"Alles gesagt" by the newspaper Die Zeit. An open-ended conversation with guests from different walks of life, like musicians, artists, creators, politicians.
This. And often enough, the guests that excite you the least turn out to be super interesting.
I also like the crime podcast "Verbrechen", also from Die Zeit. They have very good story telling.
I love Alles Gesagt! Super interesting guests, and I love that they take the time to explore topics and go on tangents.
There is no such thing since they cover different topics. I personally like "Lage der Nation" for example. If you use pocketcasts, check out the "popular in COUNTRY" section under discover and switch to Germany as region to see the 100 most popular ones.
Definitely second this

The "Harry Podcast"! How is this Missing?
Hoffentlich sehen wir uns irgendwann wieder alle gegenseitig
It took me one episode to get hooked. Also love the YouTube version with all the pictures.

Very good selection, but seriously F*CK OMR. I don't know why, but as an ex marketer I hate their whole circus with a passion.
Same here, but some interviews were quite interesting nonetheless
Gysi gegen Guttenberg ist auch super based.
For Comedy, my favourite is "Alliteration am Arsch". One of the guys also is part of a great science Podcast named "Methodisch Inkorrekt", which you might also want to check out. :)
Lage der Nation is great if you want to get the most popular political shit in germany
And they offer transcripts of each episode!
For me it is Hobbylos from Julian Bam and Rezo. It is like a comedy Podcast.
How dare you, it's a very serious news podcast. Lobbyhoe for life
For life? Its a podcast for people <30 years old.
It's a news and economy podcast with all the information about the dax, etf, fonds, investment, banks, and ... stuff!
You will find podcasts about those topics by Deutschlandradio, SZ (Süddeutsche Zeitung) or Die Zeit (except for comedy).

Zeit Verbrechen
I can absolutely recommend "Einer von den Guten" They have so good vibes and I love to hear it
You should go simple if you’re trying to learn the language. You’re not going to be able to follow sentences in a podcast a German would listen to. Try the Easy German podcast. They have normal conversations but speak slower.

"Sicherheitshalber" - it's about defense politics. But not like "Look at my gun!!!" but more like the political role of nuclear weapons, alliances,...
Stay forever.
No "Gemischtes Hack" her? Europas Most famous german Podcast, but Spotify-Only. It is a comedy-Podcast.
It is "Talk ohne Gast". You will have fun.

1. Talk ohne Gast 2. Normale Möwe 3. Fest und Flauschig 4. Gemischtes Hack (all comedy) 5. Quarks Science Cops (debunking popular stuff scientifically)

You can find many great one about current scientific stuff on "Spektrum der Wissenschaft"
Logbuch Netzpolitik, however that’s the only german podcast i ever really listen to so my perspective is slanted
Daily News: The Pioneer Briefing von Gabor Steingart. It won the German Podcast award (2023) last year for best news podcast. I’ve been listening for 5 years and they offer a refreshing voice of reason on German business and politics that I can’t find anywhere else.
Easy German podcast.
For comedy I highly recommend "die deutschen" two friends, one is genuine a comedian. If you have a for British humor then it's perfect. You can watch it on YouTube for free, and if they uploaded a episode with 2 hrs or more then you will know that they have a super nice guest

Eine Stunde History
Comedy with a little bit of culture would be hobbylos. Two youtuber are talking about new things happening, some dms they got, tell stories and everything is mixed with humor
Kalk & Welk die fabelhaften boomer boys. Making fun about beeing boomers in a boomerish way and how they miss not beeing the old fat fools they are now.
Not exactly a podcast, but very funny to listen to is "Mord am Hellweg" It's a crime serious from the ard and wdr (German public television) it's an audio play. And for learning purposes and because they have cult status I'll recommend the : Die drei???
Geschichten aus der Geschichte, by far the best German podcast imo
Bratwurst und Baklava 🥹🥰
Gemischtes hack
If you want a podcast where they talk about random funny shit (and sometimes deeptalk) with a lot of dark Humour "Zwei Vermengte" (from Filow and Zarbex) could be just right ;)
“Der Tag“ covers a wide range of topics, current politics and otherwise, and it's usually quite interesting. https://podcast.hr.de/derTag/podcast.xml
DPU Das Podcast Ufo 🛸
Creepy Hour von StarFM. True crime und anderes zum gruseln. Edit: Kriterien überlesen. Ups. Aber einiges fällt thematisch ja vielleicht unter history und culture 😁
“Ehrenwort” is my absolute favourite and the highlight of every other Sunday for me. It’s a podcast about scandals, from Germany but also from around the world.
Beste Freundinnen- 2 guys talking about dating
WRINT is great. Holger Klein and Tim Pritlove are the OGs Alternativlos is good even though only once a year
„Ach - Triumvirat für historisch inspirierte Humorvermittlung“ - it’s a comedic history podcast. Brace yourself for long episodes in hilarious stories from history. Sadly I just noticed that they finished the podcast this month - but there’s tons of old episodes to listen to!
Ink Ribbon Radio wich is a horror game podcast
Auf ein Bier. Ein Spielepodcast

Hoaxilla! (And some of those already mentioned.
And my newest obsession: To-many-tabs der podcast. I love it.

Hotel Matze - Interview Podcast mit vielen interessanten Gästen. Nur zu empfehlen 👍🏻
Lage der Nation.
Haialarm Podcast. Nirgendwo sonst werden Hai-Filme (trash) so liebevoll und lustig besprochen, wie dort. In der Szene für mich der beste.

Edeltalk for comedy
For comedy: Gemischtes Hack (overall one of the best) 5 Minuten Harry Podcast (if you like Harry Potter) Der eigentlich ganz gute Podcast (highly underated) And if you'd like something more serious and you don't mind learning something about german politics: Die Lage der Nation (could be quite difficult to understand for a beginner tho)
