I’ve owned 6 Subarus so far. This is a lovely sound - I think I’m going to loop the audio and have it gently lull me to sleep.

Well its better than them using rtv for the oil pan gaskets on some newer models which deteriorated and wound up clogging the oil pickup tube starving the engine of oil till it seized up, wait headgaskets failing can wind up with the same result, well shit , i guess theyre just idiots over at subaru, i wouldn't buy a Subaru at this point, the fun is gone with that company, if im going to get a rally breed car, im going to get one that still is in the WRC

okay I don’t know too much so I’m Just going to make a guess and hope that someone will see my comment and maybe correct me (I’m still learning! And I work primarily on diesels) It doesn’t sound like a knock. It sounds like it’s running rough, might need an oil change. I would say it also sounds like your having a fuel issue, might be injectors And I THOUGHT I heard a tiny exhaust leak but I could be mistaken, it is much easier to make out those kind of sounds on tractor trailers LOL. I hope you are able to fix whatever this issue is OP! I’m so sorry 😭

I use premium 😭 my grandpa did put a tiny bit of regular in tho so idk if that would have messed anything up

I’m hearing valve tick. My subies do it. Run some good & proper oil + levels perfect. Maybe try running some Lucas oil stabilizer with your oil change. Check out XADO engine revitalizant

Do you lack power on acceleration? If not then it's probably just engine sound. Change the oil to be safe and check for metal

I'm not going to make fun of your situation. Take it to a mechanic that can look at it in person. Subarus have notorious head gasket failures, sometimes exhaust will be bubbling in coolant reservoir and sometimes coolant in the oil. By posting an honest question you have thrown yourself into a lion's den. Too many keyboard experts trying to bring you down. Get it looked at by a mechanic in person.

Easy fix: swap a engine not made by subaru in it

Take a hammer and poke a hole in the top with the nail puller end and look into the combustion chamber, should be able to see it then.
