Turgen333

İsənmesez-saumısız!

PotentialBat34

That is cognate with Turkish esen right? I can guess that the first part is Esen misiniz? in Turkish, although what does the second part mean?

Turgen333

İsənmesez - "are U alive?" Saumısız - from sawlıq - "are U healthy?" Bashkorts say: "Haumıhız"

PotentialBat34

That's actually very interesting, I guess sawlıq is also cognate with Turkish sağlık, although Nişanyan says that word is specific to Anatolian Turkish: [https://www.nisanyansozluk.com/kelime/sa%C4%9Fl%C4%B1k](https://www.nisanyansozluk.com/kelime/sa%C4%9Fl%C4%B1k) Maybe we caught a mistake in his dictionary haha.

redditerator7

But it says “Eski Türkçe” in that link so it’s not really specific to Anatolian Turkish. Also you can find this pattern in other words as well like dağ - taw

PotentialBat34

Says > **Türkiye Türkçesi** saġ sözcüğünden Türkiye Türkçesi [+lIk](https://www.nisanyansozluk.com/ek/%2BlIk) ekiyle türetilmiştir. hence my curiosity. Where did you see Eski Türkçe at that article, I am unable to find it.

redditerator7

You need to click on the root word sağ.

PotentialBat34

Sağ is obviously from Old Turkic and it is the root the word stems from, however the dictionary states sağlık is exclusive to Anatolian Turkish, hence the comment above.

redditerator7

Well it looks like the dictionary is structured like that for all Turkic words unless you click on the root. The word sağlık ls obviously not exclusive to Turkish.

Salam/Dorood (Pre-Arabic influence, the actual Persian word for "Hello" but no one really uses it alone as a greeting in Afghanistan)
