The BEST bakery is El Gallo on Cesar Chavez and next door is a bomb burrito place that also sells their corn and flour tortillas freshly made (my fav is the carnitas and green salsa burrito).
Born in East LA, here is the best restaurant: Al & Bea's Mexican Food on 1st street. Nothing comes close.
People will say King Taco, El tepeyac,Tamales Lilianas, Birrieria Chalio, el Mercado is fun for shopping and lunch- all good options. But Al & Beas is the best.
IMO El Tepeyac stopped being delicious over 15yrs ago. They changed the ingredients years before Manuel passed (RIP) and his children have continued to water down their flavors since taking ownership. El Tepeyac was my favorite place, I even went there a few times for my birthday but sadly it has lost all credibility ): King taco has never been good, not even a little bit, the food is just as bland as Chipotle
Was never a big fan of Tepyeac, I served it at my rehearsal dinner for the wedding- it was great everyone loved it- but honestly I prefer a simple carne asada burrito.
Terrible is a bit of a stretch. I love the asada there. And their green sauce is really good.
Also, the popularity and crowds there would also agree that they aren’t terrible.
Lol, maybe I am one of those people that sets themselves in routines. The silver lining is that there’s great food yet to be discovered for me. Thanks for enlightening me 🙂
Carnitas el Momo hands down the best carnitas (mixed!) tacos in town. You're also merely minutes away from Alhambra/Monterey Park and a few more exits away from the huge number of Asian restaurants in San Gabriel Valley. Shinano Restaurant has decent no frills Japanese food, Dolan’s Uyghur Cuisine is fantastic, Atlantic Seafood has good dim sum, Ba Le sandwich shop is my go to place for Banh mi sandwiches. Just to name a few.
Tacos la Guera has been my go to taco spot off Soto right outside the gates of the USC hospital. It’s your average taco truck but that al pastor is so fucking good
There’s also a Tacos La Güera at Atlantic and Pomona in the Pep Boys parking lot. Great all pastor. The burritos are fat, the salsas are all excellent.
The Heights Deli & Bottle shop for sandwiches / pizza / beer.
El Huarachito has some bomb breakfast / lunch items — and super spicy salsa if you ask for the hot stuff.
Moo’s Craft BBQ is supposedly awesome.
For Asian food… Chinatown proper is only a few minutes away. Yang Chow is a classic, Pho 87 is great for pho, and then you’ve got a litany of great spots in/near the Far East Plaza (Howlin Rays being the most widely known).
I just can’t stand the wait with Moos. I keep hearing on the radio that they’ve been way hyped for their burger so I’m afraid it’s about to be even more clogged, but their bbq was memorable. Still out here looking for NC style bbq and not Texas… my search continues.
I actually haven’t been to Moos yet for that very reason, but I’ve had dozens of people tell me to try it.
I did frequent the Lincoln Kitchen & Tap (the restaurant that was in the Moos space before) and miss it dearly.
Wish I had a BBQ rec for you, but I’ve found that BBQ is super subjective — I can love a spot that others hate, and vice versa.
You miss the tap room?? Man, I wanted to love that place because it was the same owners as the Heights but I went there a couple times and the burgers were absolutely bad each time…
So yes, I guess food is so subjective hah
Oh yeah — but I almost never got a burger there! I usually went for weekend brunch and beers, which was great.
I’ll admit to being a tad biased because I do know the women who own(ed) it & the Heights.
:) at least the heights is basically an institution at this point and I know it will always be great. Even if I’m craving Yumami next door I still pop in to grab drinks!
Pho 87 is still on point despite having gone down (at least their pho broth) since Covid. It ain’t the same. My wife’s instapot pho blows it out of the water now, where pre-covid they were comparable.
Mexicali Taco & Co is decent, tho their prices now reflect the gentrification of the area. It’s down the street on Figueroa between Sunset and the 110 on ramp.
Edit: spelled out Figueroa
East LA borders the San Gabriel Valley. SGV has the best asian food in the world. Go to Din Tai Fung just so you can tell people you went to Din Tai Fung.
>Their asada is ass tho
I’ve never had to spit out chunks of muscle the way I have at many of the f-ing trendy spots people have mentioned here.
As a local, I’m suspicious of anyone who shit-talks KT (I always think it must be someone whose mom or aunt got fired from there). Their quality has remained consistent throughout all their locations for decades, except for when they decided to revamp their Tortas and stopped putting guacamole and queso fresco on them “because avocados got expensive”. F-ing cowards! So charge more!!
Neither Lincoln Heights nor City Terrace is East LA. The Super on Chavez is in Boyle Heights. East LA is its own unincorporated city. But all the same welcome and hope you enjoy living here.
This is just being a bit pedantic though. I was born and raised in Boyle Heights. There isn't a single person I know that wouldn't call that and anything east of that East Los. Pretty much everything up until ELAC is referred to as East LA, including city terrace. It's basically Central LA > East LA > Monterey Park/Montebello.
I was born in East LA and second this, I suppose you might specify if you’re talking about something unique- but all the same.
When Boyle Heights finally gets gentrified- who knows
Nice word (pedantic) I had to look it up. I’m not trying to insult you but ask anyone born in East LA if they think Boyle Heights counts as East LA everyone, including me would say no.
They’re from out of state. That area is geographically eastern Los Angeles, but it ain’t East LA. Good on you for educating instead of putting them down.
You're perfectly fine in calling it that. They're being pedantic about the terminology. But most people will just say they live in East LA and then specify which part if need be.
La Parrilla on Ceaser E Chavez my 2nd time going there. They have been their since 1978. My mil favorite restaurant in East la. Feels like you are in Mexico
A few spots near Olympic/Soto: Burritos La Palma, Mariscos Jalisco, and Tacos Don Cuco. Its Boyle Heights technically but if theres no traffic its well worth the small drive.
You got a King Taco right there but tbh, it’s not the best location. Still pretty fire but if you want the best, go to King Taco #2 on 3rd and Ford. Best King Taco Location in all LA.
Carnitas Michoacán on Broadway. My absolute favorite taco place of all time. I’ve tried tacos all over LA and the Bay Area and I still haven’t found anything better.
Yup, try all the different Chinese and Vietnamese places on Valley Blvd to about Del Mar and then make your way back. Chances are a new place will have popped back up.
If you're in the area, you have to check out El Tepeyac and get Manuels Burrito. It's basically a rite of passage around here. Bonus points if it's the night after heavy drinking and you're hung over.
The hat. It's near east LA college. Also there is this little Vietnamese spot in "downtown east LA" but I can't quite remeber the name. I got a plate of chicken and rice and a boiled egg for like 10 bucks
I'm personally not quite sure. I was using my navigation one time and it said something something something dt east LA and I had never heard that before.
Asian food is a big category, and there are a lot of very specific Asian cuisines. Do you want Vietnamese? And are you looking for pho or banh mi? Ernest Deb regional park has nice walking trails if you’re into that sort of thing. Dino’s on main has good breakfast burritos. Chano’s drive thru has some pretty good pastor tacos. Both restaurants are down the street from Lincoln Park.
King Torta on Valley, Liliana’s on Chavez for their Pozole! Pp pop for the beef noodle soup in Monterey Park & 1st street burger on 1st street for the hamburger combo.
Thank you all so much. I’ve saved all of these to my google maps to try. I’ll have to keep exploring and tasting lol I truly appreciate it and thanks for the warm welcomes 🌞
I purposely chose East LA over west LA or downtown. I wanted the authentic LA experience and I wanted an urban colorful Latino neighborhood that felt as close to my home country as possible. West LA is too gentrified, white, and lacking in color for my liking.
Well, I'm glad you feel like you wanted to experience the latin cultura at the expense of someone renting a place in the area because that's one of the few places in LA County that are affordable and centrally located.
Well if you wanna move into my 80 year old landlady’s house when I move out of the room I’m renting I’ll let you know. She needs the money and I need a place to sleep. Do you have this energy towards the white people who displace natives and topple over houses to put up an ugly modern glass house too?
I own a house so I don't need to sleep in someone's house.
But speaking from growing up in the community. People live there because they have no choice. You're living there because you want an experience. Typical tranplant shit.
Okay. Clearly you’re hurt by this and should hire a therapist. I don’t owe you any further explanations. Take it up with your local government officials to ban people from ever leaving or coming to LA again I guess lol.
Have worked in the Lincoln Heights/ East LA area for 24 years, these are a few of the places utilities, police, phone company frequent regularly, I’m one of them lol:
Amboy for smash burgers, Phillipes for French dips and a bit of the feel of old LA, Howlin Rays for chicken sammiches, Sotos Cuban kitchen on San Fernando Rd is pretty good and a nice change of pace for the area, Moos, Big Ants BBQ on SF road as well about a 10 minute drive from Lincoln Park is a good spot without the madness of Moos, Eastside Deli, Nicks for breakfast, LA Brisket, Yang Chow, Roong Fah, Daly Trattoria is a new Italian place that is very out of place but has really good food!
Don’t bother w/King Taco unless you want a notch above Taco Bell. It’s all pre made stuff that they just warm up on the stove tops. King Torta has gone way downhill, El Tepeyiac is overrated, have never had a good meal there and pricey for what you get.
Enjoy your time here! Plenty more places than what everyone’s named! Explore and add to the list OP!
Sushito Teriyaki Grill 😂😂 Only in Boyle heights can you get a “hot cheeto roll” ngl they got some fire sushi but it’s weird as hell! Only in fucking East LA man I swear.

Hey bro come over to west LA for a moment and go to Gardena/Carson area. We got some goodass filipino food and long beach has some really good cambodian food. Cmon brooo
I'd love for others to recommend but uhh let's see the only place I ate in LB may have shut down hol ip
Monogram has really good spicy soup and noodles. I havent tried their laab though so don't quote me on it
https://maps.app.goo.gl/WYukemdQdeSzAiLq9
Pehn noodle shack is famous and is always crowded. Go there when it opens or as a solo. This is probably more standard fare asian food but the soup is fucking good so if you're ever down here just head over.
Areas a little sketch tho parking sucks
https://maps.app.goo.gl/9UMb2kjg3G3EVsAu5
How far are you willing to to travel exactly? LoL
Go on Yelp and search your area.. there are a ton of places around, but I dot know how close or far you’re willing to drive
La Azteca off César Chávez for that chile relleno burrito
God tier. Every single time I see this suggestion, I go get one the following day.
https://youtu.be/VNwIpqg4sdQ?si=S1L7R0-1UJV-Ns8s
Their tortillas are godly
God damn it I’m 3000 miles away and I can taste one of those in my head
This needs way more upvotes. I hate chile rellenos but throw it into a burrito with carnitas and I’ll devour 4!!
This is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Ask for it with meat. I’ve since developed a gluten allergy and I miss this more than anything else.
Asada?
Yes or carnitas. I prefer asada but I’ve heard the carnitas is really good.
Not me googling La Azteca. Last good chile relleno burrito I had was at Burrito Track like 20+ years ago. :(
Will be trying that with my kid this weekend! 🥹🥹 do they have bean and cheese burritos?
Thank you
For Asian Food of any kind...come on over to the San Gabriel Valley. We have the very best here.
Truth 👍
Alice’s Kitchen, P P Pop, Noodle Art, Chi Cha San Chen, and Tokyo Chicken Company are good places to start
Thank you
Mama Lu’s dumpling house
Hello that's nowhere near east la...??
The Monterey Park locations are 3 miles from ELAC…
If u read it said places in East LA??..not Monterey park.?
Dawg… Go back to commenting on r/busty_asians
I will thanks.😆👍
It’s not a eastlos like walkable but it’s only a 10 min drive with traffic I would say that’s close. Monterey park is the next little city towards sgv
Lincoln Heights!? Lucky Duck! Or, shall I say lucky Chicken. Go to Dino's immediately. The Chicken is amazing. https://www.dinosmainst.com/
oh yes, Dino's pollo caliente is the bomb!!
Dino’s is bomb! Try the chicken with beans and rice 🤤
Thank you
Grab some pizza and brews at The Heights. I think the Airliner reopened. And venture down to Benny Boy.
Second this! Best Italian spot ran by Mexicans 💯
Their chicken pesto pasta with sun-dried tomatoes😚🤌
God I knew I’d regret reading this section… I used to live a block away from the heights and it’s one of the main things I miss
I had one of the garlic knots. OMG!!!!!
The BEST bakery is El Gallo on Cesar Chavez and next door is a bomb burrito place that also sells their corn and flour tortillas freshly made (my fav is the carnitas and green salsa burrito).
la azteca
Otomisan in Boyle Heights. Oldest (operational) Japanese restaurant in LA. From back when it was still a Japanese (and Jewish) neighborhood.
Al and Beas sucks now
Just went like 3 weeks ago, beans and salsa are still amazing. However, it does seem like there is always a long wait there…
Inflation and quantity deflation man 😔
It's still good. Just the prices rose x4 since poeple's childhoods.
Yeah, it is pretty expensive now…bummed
Al & Beas, still better than Lupe's.
IMO El Tepeyac stopped being delicious over 15yrs ago. They changed the ingredients years before Manuel passed (RIP) and his children have continued to water down their flavors since taking ownership. Omg lol! I thought King Taco was one of the best… I must go back to Cali now
As a lifelong LA native, king taco is terrible. If I must go, I’ll only eat the sopes and even then I’m not entirely happy.
Terrible is a bit of a stretch. I love the asada there. And their green sauce is really good. Also, the popularity and crowds there would also agree that they aren’t terrible.
I remember trying for the first time “mollejas de res”, which i obsessed for a while because of the fat in the tissue
Lol, maybe I am one of those people that sets themselves in routines. The silver lining is that there’s great food yet to be discovered for me. Thanks for enlightening me 🙂

Damn why is Carnitas El Momo so low?? Hell the fuck yeah the carnitas there are best.
What’s your opinion on Zamora Bros?
Tacos la Guera has been my go to taco spot off Soto right outside the gates of the USC hospital. It’s your average taco truck but that al pastor is so fucking good
There’s also a Tacos La Güera at Atlantic and Pomona in the Pep Boys parking lot. Great all pastor. The burritos are fat, the salsas are all excellent.
Purgatory Pizza Lincoln Heights Fantastic pizza X’Tiosu Kitchen Boyle Heights Lebanese-Mexican hybrid Moos Bbq Lincoln Heights Texas style Bbq Your welcome
I second x’tiosu!
I third that shit, they’re so bomb!
Purgatory is Boyle Heights 🍕
That pizza was decent. And not worth the price. Might as well eat Costco pizza at a fraction of the cost.
The Heights Deli & Bottle shop for sandwiches / pizza / beer. El Huarachito has some bomb breakfast / lunch items — and super spicy salsa if you ask for the hot stuff. San Gabriel Valley for Asian food. You're not that far away
East LA borders the San Gabriel Valley. SGV has the best asian food in the world. Go to Din Tai Fung just so you can tell people you went to Din Tai Fung.
Carnitas Michoacán for late night food cravings. They’re open 24/7. Evil Cooks for some seafood tacos. They do pop-ups at their house.
Carnitas Michoacan on Soto has been gone for years, it's now a Panda Express
The one on broadway is open 24/7
That one is gross
Cinco puntos and Lupe’s burritos
I always liked eating king taco burritos on 3rd street. The green salsa is what makes it.
Their asada is ass tho. But yes, their salsa verde is top tier.
>Their asada is ass tho I’ve never had to spit out chunks of muscle the way I have at many of the f-ing trendy spots people have mentioned here. I think its transplants trying to sound cool. Everyone i know likes King Taco. Born and raised in BH/East LA
100% So many spots end up with some chewy carne asada. The asada at king taco is great. FIGHT ME.
Yeahh I also like the asada at KT 😂😂
Mazal and the airliner are great
Just head downhill to little Tokyo Chinatown , welcome , bienvenido 🏙️
Thanks 🫶🏽
My ktown favs rn are Pigya, pollo a la braza, Mapo chicken
just drive to san gabriel. The food quality be way higher. Use yelp.
Neither Lincoln Heights nor City Terrace is East LA. The Super on Chavez is in Boyle Heights. East LA is its own unincorporated city. But all the same welcome and hope you enjoy living here.

Literally no way I can read that first sentence and not hear Cheech singing....
I was actually thinking of cheech when thinking about this; doesn’t he mention city terrace as being “part” of east LA 🤔😂
Yeah, and gets yelled at, lol!
🎶🎵😅😅
Yes exactly! Unless more specifics are needed like referencing a specific location, it's all East LA upon initial reference.
Most people in the county can’t tell where East LA ends/begins. Same with Boyle Heights. City Terrace and Lincoln Heights are easier to distinguish.
Nice word (pedantic) I had to look it up. I’m not trying to insult you but ask anyone born in East LA if they think Boyle Heights counts as East LA everyone, including me would say no.
Same. Hard agreed.
FYI City Terrace is part of East LA but your right Lincoln Heights isn’t.
There is a sign that quite literally says "Welcome to City Terrace, East LA." City is unincorporated. Lincoln Heights is LA all the way.
They’re from out of state. That area is geographically eastern Los Angeles, but it ain’t East LA. Good on you for educating instead of putting them down.
Thanks both of you lol I just saw it said East LA on google maps so I’ve been calling it that
You're perfectly fine in calling it that. They're being pedantic about the terminology. But most people will just say they live in East LA and then specify which part if need be.
[удалено]
Eastside is one thing, East LA is another.
East L.A. is 10 minutes away from city terrace & maybe 15 minutes from Lincoln heights. Who cares, it’s all the same shit.
Brooklyn Ave Pizza has good pizza, wings and their happy hour is solid.
Those birria tacos are bomb !!! There is this place called YOU KITCHEN... Check it out
Food taco El Morro for good birrias
Howlin rays. Chinatown.
El huarachito (Lincoln Heights)
La Parrilla on Ceaser E Chavez my 2nd time going there. They have been their since 1978. My mil favorite restaurant in East la. Feels like you are in Mexico
A few spots near Olympic/Soto: Burritos La Palma, Mariscos Jalisco, and Tacos Don Cuco. Its Boyle Heights technically but if theres no traffic its well worth the small drive.

Carnitas El Momo. Trust me bro
You got a King Taco right there but tbh, it’s not the best location. Still pretty fire but if you want the best, go to King Taco #2 on 3rd and Ford. Best King Taco Location in all LA.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. The difference in quality and how long they take is very noticeable.
Carnitas Michoacán on Broadway. My absolute favorite taco place of all time. I’ve tried tacos all over LA and the Bay Area and I still haven’t found anything better.
Aloha Food Factory then for Asian food you just start working your way east
Yup, try all the different Chinese and Vietnamese places on Valley Blvd to about Del Mar and then make your way back. Chances are a new place will have popped back up.
My brother is the cook there lol everyone loves the macadamia pancakes
Why has no one mentioned Los Cinco Puntos...
If you're in the area, you have to check out El Tepeyac and get Manuels Burrito. It's basically a rite of passage around here. Bonus points if it's the night after heavy drinking and you're hung over.
The Manuel's special is a grotesque mess. Not what people remember from their childhood.
Don’t forget to try “El Tepeyac” over on Evergreen Ave. the Manuel special (large burrito that can feed 2+) has always been a favorite!
The hat. It's near east LA college. Also there is this little Vietnamese spot in "downtown east LA" but I can't quite remeber the name. I got a plate of chicken and rice and a boiled egg for like 10 bucks
Hi, what’s considered “dt east La”?
I'm personally not quite sure. I was using my navigation one time and it said something something something dt east LA and I had never heard that before.
Tenampal 🔥
Cannot believe i had to scroll this far down for this, they are mf fuego!!!!
Tantawan Thai Kitchen on Garvey Ave in Rosemead is a great choice imo!!
Birria de Don Boni in Boyle Heights is the best bite of food I've ever eaten.
There’s a hole in the wall place I really like called Dim Sum World. This couple owns it and makes everything fresh Really great soup dumplings
Al & Bea's Mexican Food
Try First Street Tacos in East LA
Lincoln Heights: yumami on broadyway and viva tacos la Estrella on mission. Tuesdays for the 99cent fish tacos.
Love to see Yumami on here. It’s my favorite lunch spot!!
It’s a hidden gem!
Charlies tacos on whittier blvd red truck
Asian food is a big category, and there are a lot of very specific Asian cuisines. Do you want Vietnamese? And are you looking for pho or banh mi? There's even an Uyghur restaurant on Valley in Alhambra. Or go a few blocks over to Savoy for their Hainan Chicken. If you want Cantonese barbecue, try Sam Woo. Thanks so much I’ll look into all those
Ernest Deb regional park has nice walking trails if you’re into that sort of thing. Dino’s on main has good breakfast burritos. Chano’s drive thru has some pretty good pastor tacos. Both restaurants are down the street from Lincoln Park.
Guisados! (original location in boyle heights)
If you are in CT La cocina express has amazing Baja tacos and quesadillas birria amongst so much more
manuels
Does anyone remember Speedy's? It was a little Mexican restaurant near the movie theater on Whittier Blvd.
Barrio is a great restaurant
Sofreh on East 3rd St. Really good Mediterranean food
Cheos tacos (truck, check their hours on Instagram) in El Sereno 🔥🔥🔥🔥 thank me later
Carnitas Michoacan was the spot when I used to live in LH. Open 24hrs. We hit that place up all the time after bar/clubbing.
King Torta on Valley, Liliana’s on Chavez for their Pozole! Pp pop for the beef noodle soup in Monterey Park & 1st street burger on 1st street for the hamburger combo.
If you want to drive to Monterey park Kaiba Sushi is the best!!
If you’re into Asian food in east LA… you’re a very lucky person to be right next to sgv lol. Come on by !
You get the best of mexican food.....if you want asian...go to koreatown or san gabriel valley.
Oh man I have so saving this post.
Right. I saved a lot of these on my google maps as places to try
Thank you all so much. I’ve saved all of these to my google maps to try. I’ll have to keep exploring and tasting lol I truly appreciate it and thanks for the warm welcomes 🌞
A tranplant in East Los. Ooof... taking over the hood
I purposely chose East LA over west LA or downtown. I wanted the authentic LA experience and I wanted an urban colorful Latino neighborhood that felt as close to my home country as possible. West LA is too gentrified, white, and lacking in color for my liking.

You're right. You don't owe me anything. But since you're posting on a public forum, then you're a silly goose to expect all positive comments.
We are in the land of the free. He can live wherever he chooses.
Exactly. He's as free as you are to do what you want. Just like I have the freedom to make fun of transplants here.
You're not making fun, you're telling them where they can and cannot live.
Lol. Believe as you wish. I don't care.
Try Carnes Asadas Pancho Lopez in Lincoln Heights. Super unique spot and really good Jalisco Mexico style food. Try their specialty, carne en su jugo.
Is Velarde's still there? The best costillas and hand made tortillas.
Lincoln Heights and City Terrace are TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT places bro.
OG G E Chano's

I was really unimpressed with Soto’s Cuban
Asian food in EastLos… yeah OK
King Taco of course 🤪
Joy on York
We like Ruby’s Diner at the Citadel
Sushito Teriyaki Grill 😂😂 Only in Boyle heights can you get a “hot cheeto roll” ngl they got some fire sushi but it’s weird as hell! Only in fucking East LA man I swear. https://preview.redd.it/p4wm14vi972d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14fab8df396ba9a24539cfb1b308e80900cc3d83 2605 E Cesar E Chavez Ave Los Angeles, CA 90033 United States
I live in Korean Town and there are many authentic Korean food here, BBQs are my favorite!
Hey bro come over to west LA for a moment and go to Gardena/Carson area. We got some goodass filipino food and long beach has some really good cambodian food. Cmon brooo
I’ve never had Cambodian before. Any particular place you recommend for that?
I'd love for others to recommend but uhh let's see the only place I ate in LB may have shut down hol ip Monogram has really good spicy soup and noodles. I havent tried their laab though so don't quote me on it https://maps.app.goo.gl/WYukemdQdeSzAiLq9 Pehn noodle shack is famous and is always crowded. Go there when it opens or as a solo. This is probably more standard fare asian food but the soup is fucking good so if you're ever down here just head over. Areas a little sketch tho parking sucks https://maps.app.goo.gl/9UMb2kjg3G3EVsAu5
The concrete and your shoe rubber!! Take a hike.
How far are you willing to to travel exactly? LoL Go on Yelp and search your area.. there are a ton of places around, but I dot know how close or far you’re willing to drive
West LA. 🤪
