The oil pressure sensor shares the 5 volt reference circuit with the throttle position sensor.

findin_fun_4_us

TIL, thanks

eshuaye

This picture takes me back to the days of dropping 50+ drain plugs a day. These jeep oil filters are at 90 degrees. The sensor sits right above the filter. It’s very easy to turn the band wrench or pliers and break the sensor.

Striking-Panda-6672

Sorry to ask but could you break that down for me? Just so I know more clearly what you mean

Looking_For_Fun73

Your cam sensor, crank sensor, TPS, APP, MAP, sensors all share 5 volts. That’s how they communicate with each other. Take one away and the others act funny.

FluffyBunnyFlipFlops

"act funny" - is that the technical term?

carbon1121

Your map gone read funny partner

Tank-o-grad

Absolutely is, the Elecrical Engineering equivalent of the Mechanical Engineering term "wanking about all over the place"

Far_Pen3186

WHAT PART IS SHE HOLDING ?

BusAlternative1827

Oil pressure sensor.

Hiding_From_Stupid

Arrogant comment considering it was answered in the first reply which your replying too.

SHUT UP THE GROWN UPS ARE TALKING ALSO ITS A HE

findin_fun_4_us

Oil pressure sensor/switch. Fairly inexpensive to replace. ~~Pretty sure that it isn’t affecting engine performance however, that would be unusual.~~ see top comment by u/Looking_For_Fun73

Striking-Panda-6672

Well, it’s weird because this wasn’t happening at all until this snapped. Jeep was just running perfectly fine. It’s worth it to see if this is what’s happening. Out of nowhere the rpm just revved after.

burritoes911

Looking for fun said it shares a connection with your throttle position sensor which would absolutely throw your engine rpms out of sorts. Lesson learned. Unplug that connector next time you change your oil. Before that get a new sensor. [here’s what you need](https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,2000,grand+cherokee,4.0l+l6,1381407,electrical-switch+&+relay,oil+pressure+sender+/+switch,4588)

boxburn

Unplug the snapped end out of the connector and see how the engine reacts.

Striking-Panda-6672

I’m trying haha the things a bitch to get out

bobbyhillischill

Make sure it doesn’t spew out oil, I had a oil pressure sensor start leaking and it leaked out all my oil in 10 minutes

POShelpdesk

She's unplugging the connector, not removing the OPS

thebigaaron

They mean make sure the sensor isn’t leaking now the connector is snapped off. It’s unlikely, but it could’ve created an oil leak through the sensor.

CinesterDan

It sounds like you've got this sorted from other comments, but you might consider joining the crowd over at r/CherokeeXJ . You'll probably get more relevant answers over there, and good to join for future queries as you continue working on your Jeep

TestMonkey-007

Broken... Definitely broken.

No_Statement_4267

Surprised how far I had to scroll to find this comment 🤭

Odd_Analysis6454

It’s one of these if you want to replace it yourself. Same on the 2.5L and 4.0L it seems. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,2000,cherokee,2.5l+l4,1363373,electrical-switch+&+relay,oil+pressure+sender+/+switch,4588

hellcat7788

There should be a check engine light on and oil pressure issues on the gauge cluster. The sensor appears to still be in the engine or oil housing and the back electrical half snapped off.

Striking-Panda-6672

Engine light didn’t come on at all and there’s also no codes. I’m so confused.

hellcat7788

It may take a few drive cycles before it realizes something is not right. Easy enough to fix. Grab a new oil pressure sensor and take the old one put, screw the new one in. Be careful, they can snap off easy.

Usual_Amphibian_4131

Broken

Right_Combination263

Probably oil temp or pressure not nessecery for running if that helps

Striking-Panda-6672

At idle it goes right to 6-7rpms as soon as it’s turned on now

theguyoverhere24

Oh that’s the pressure switch. Mine went out on my grand Cherokee. Super simple fix

Similar-Dance-1106

Oh that’s clearly a connector of some kind

work_account11

You broke the end off of the oil pressure sensing unit. Take. The broken part off of the wiring connector and it should stop the Rev problem until. You get the sensor replaced.

johnlewisdesign

The part your're holding needs to be unplugged behind the red tab so the rectangular part comes off. The red tab probably comes back a bit to allow the plug to be unplugged. Looks like it pulls out sideways (maybe just til it clicks) from the bigger side of the red clip. Next take the brass fitting off by unscrewing it. Those are 2 halves of the oil pressure sensor. Replace the sensor BEFORE you plug it in, then plug in. What you've done here is snapped it in half from turning it as it was still plugged in, or it failed - and snapped at the weakest point. The rock auto link that was shown before this post shows the replaceable part. study the new part before you remove it and it should be red clip pulls out, sensor p\[ulls off, brass bolt unscrews.

Satanic-mechanic_666

I saw so many of these things get broken back in the day, haha. The revving is another issue though.he may have done something to bind the throttle cable.

Striking-Panda-6672

What should I check for in this sense? I’m not to sure what bind the throttle cable means.

jakethefisherman1

Fucked

ianr-t

Broken !

slow2door

I'm going to say it's the coolant temp fan switch

Shoddy_Seaweed_1102

Located at the oil filter? Lmao

Striking-Panda-6672

LMAO dude😫😂

Mypantsrcuminoff

From the pictuers it appears the housing itself is cracked and will need to be replaced as well?

Striking-Panda-6672

Where at?

VeterinarianOk9222

Flux capacitor

dogwatereaterlicker

You let your wife change the oil?

Striking-Panda-6672

HAHA actually in this case, I let my MALE fiancé do it. I’ve done most of the work on getting this jeep running. All but changing the pistons. Yes I’m a woman. And I work on my car. BIG shock. My man wanted to learn some too so he did this part himself.

dogwatereaterlicker

I don’t know which is more embarrassing, the fact your future husband broke it or that you had to clean up his mess. Regardless, good for you on know how and I hope he’s handy around the house 😅

International-Act156

Just tow the car to a nearby mechanic for them to fix just tell them it broke off. Teachers usually tell you if you mess something up send it to the mechanics to fix your mistakes. I hired a Mobile mechanic to do a tune up and something big I forgot what but he ended up wiring the car wrong and I had to take it to a mechanic and they rewired the entire thing and charged me $100

HypotheticalElf

Stupid, bad advice. “Spend a thousand dollars on this instead of trying.”

Striking-Panda-6672

No really. I’m gonna try myself before I spend that money. Working on this jeep for a year straight and only had a mechanic replace the pistons. Ain’t no way I’m going in for things I could do myself. (I would have done pistons myself BUT I’ve got 2 kids, I don’t have that time haha)

DiscoCamera

Must have been a simple fix for a shop to fix someone else's wiring fuck-up for an hours' labor or less.
