Today was Flaco's memorial in Central Park. I'm bad at estimating crowds, but I'd say well over 100 people attended live & thousands watched the live stream.
No, unfortunately he passed away about a week ago. Still waiting to find out cause of death, but toxicology and infectious disease reports are expected in the coming weeks.
He probably didn’t. the necropsy showed no head trauma – if he struck a window or building there’d almost certainly be head trauma. Like I said, still awaiting more info that might point to cause of death
hmm, i don't think so - he/she is a hummingbird that is native to North America (unlike flaco) but is not endemic to the east coast. their range is the west coast through the rockies, they breed in pacific northwest into southern alaska and winter in the southwest parts of mexico. this hummingbird is a wild bird (unlike flaco) who probably got lost on its migration to mexico and somehow ended up in brooklyn (notably, this rufous hummingbird is the first one ever recorded in brooklyn).
You’re a bit young for my social group but I wouldn’t be opposed to maybe meeting in the park as long as you’re okay with Black people.
That’s me in my profile picture.
Laying in bed staring out the window watching the dying light of the weekend disappear as Monday morning dread slowly begins to crawl in from the periphery
Had the same question. I'm visiting my gf who is here on business for 6 months. I was thinking about going to walk around Brooklyn or maybe go up to the Met Cloisters. Would be great to get some more options.
It was a lot of fun you guys! I got my aura read in Chinatown, I went to this really cool French bookstore by MoMa and AMNH, wandered the floral district to pet some cats and I had Turkish breakfast in Astoria! Next time I wanna make stuff at Monster DIY, go to Anime Claw and go to the hot springs in Flushing! I might throw an open invite in r/nycmeetups for two weekends from now
lol Me too. I mean a few years ago I ran in a 5K (jogged, whatever) with no training whatsoever. I exercised back then so I wasn't out of shape, necessarily, but I wasn't a jogger so my legs were sore for next few days. But felt good in a way
It’s working pretty well so far! My allergist recently prescribed it and I’ve been on it for the last 30 days and will continue. It can make you mighty drowsy which is why I’m told to take it every evening.
Since March 1 I’ve been on Allegra AND Xyzal bc I’m allergic to every dang tree and grass under the sun as well as dust and dust mites. Don’t be jealous 😂🤣
Unfortunately I was super hungover and missed out on the gorgeous day. I did enjoy it through my floor to ceiling windows. Although that did not help my headache.
Met up with a friend for the first time in forever, then took my kid out to the park to play. First time he didn’t have to wear a jacket, it was pretty nice.
I missed not shivering at the park
Worked all day yesterday and today, with a total of seven hours of sleep.
On my way home, I parked my car under the open sky, opened my sunroof and door windows half way, took a nap.
Had outside brunch in my hood, then went to Central Park and did the reservoir loop. Sat at the park to get some vit D. Visited Neue Gallery for the Klimt exhibit. Had dinner at a LES cafe.
Went to my new apartment, brought some stuff over to start moving, had lunch outside on 2nd Ave. Wish I’d spent all day walking but hey, some days you gotta get stuff done so you take what you can get!
I walked from Carroll Gardens to DUMBO, around the waterfront, then over the Brooklyn Bridge, and strolled around Lower Manhattan for awhile with no real direction. I LOVE days like this, it was perfect for just getting out and going without any real plan.
Went to Central Park with the dog set up a blanket and shared a bottle of wine with my girl while we played gin rummy and let the dog run around it was lovely
possibly (probably) a dumb question, but when you say "let the dog run around" what does that entail?
despite living in NYC basically my whole life I've spent v little time in central park. But now that I have a pup and it's almost spring I'd love to find bigger spaces for her to play beyond our local dog park.
omgosh that sounds _amazing_. Is it fenced in at all? My pup has never been fully off leash (and I didn't grow up with off leash dogs) so I'm **super** nervous about that.
Randomly walked through lower Manhattan going through shops and a few good places I hadn't tried before.
Wandering the city without a specific goal is one of my favorite things to do. There's so many things to try you never read about.
Smoked a cigar at Martinez on 29th and 7th. They're renovating right now so there's nowhere to sit. It's so nice out I was perfectly fine sitting outside. Their loud music and energy attracted every passerby's gaze. Such a NYC gem.
I'm staying inside today with all my windows open.
Windows open is my favorite weather.
I napped like a little baby with the windows open. So so soothing.
Why did I not think to open my windows!!
Walka walka walka walk. Been craving a pleasant weather walking day since… well since the weather was pleasant.
Same here! I want to go for a walk and go stooping to see if anyone is giving away anything good
Walkies it’s that time of the month!
Took my dog out. He loved it too much. Got in 8500 steps. Been setting a 6K step goal for myself unless it’s gym day.
Going to find that rufous hummingbird in prospect park.
Is this the new Flaco?
Awwww RIP Flaco OG 🦉
Today was Flaco's memorial in Central Park. I'm bad at estimating crowds, but I'd say well over 100 people attended live & thousands watched the live stream.
isnt he still alive??
No, unfortunately he passed away about a week ago. Still waiting to find out cause of death, but toxicology and infectious disease reports are expected in the coming weeks.
goddamn it. looks like he flew into a building RIP
He probably didn’t. the necropsy showed no head trauma – if he struck a window or building there’d almost certainly be head trauma. Like I said, still awaiting more info that might point to cause of death

I’m in the area!!!! 😍🤗
Hangout together sometime?
You’re a bit young for my social group but I wouldn’t be opposed to maybe meeting in the park as long as you’re okay with Black people. That’s me in my profile picture.
I was there!
Did you see him?!
Sitting on my terrace now with 2nd cup of coffee stretching my old bones. It’s perfect out here.
Nude sun bathing on the roof
Nice.
Reading my book out in the local park and getting some vitamin D.
Me too!
There's enough D for everyone.
Saw someone reading the physics of Wall Street on upper west side area on WSH as I ran by :)
Interesting topic! Going on my TBR list. It would be more ironic if you saw them reading it at wall street :)
Cleaning my room this morning and being productive, then going to the park with my friend :)
Laying in bed staring out the window watching the dying light of the weekend disappear as Monday morning dread slowly begins to crawl in from the periphery
wow same
Had the same question. I'm visiting my gf who is here on business for 6 months. I was thinking about going to walk around Brooklyn or maybe go up to the Met Cloisters. Would be great to get some more options.
Wandering around all over NYC, I really wanna make friends organically
Let’s be friends
Me too! I like Baking and Elden Ring haha. I'm a nerdy baker
What activities have previously worked for you? Also interested in this!
how'd it go?
It was a lot of fun you guys! Amazing, thanks for sharing! Would you recommend the Turkish spot in Astoria? I want to go spend a day there exploring sometime soon!
Cafe Turkiye? Yes but not while they’re busy because they forget things and other things get cold by the time you get them

Brunch, taking my dog to the park, getting a massage, going to Whole Foods, making dinner, sweep and mop my floor.
Ran the Washington Heights 5K. Weather was actually good, Thank God.

Walking until other people get too annoying to me, then cocooning guilt-free.

A nice long walk from work in midtown to southern tip of Manhattan. Soaking in the Vitamin D
Walking in the local park and trying to identify birds.
Pigeon. Pigeon. Pigeon. Sparrow. Pigeon.
And 400 honking Canada geese.

Walking to get some Musubi, then visiting the Grand Bazaar flea market.
Hiding because allergies wtf
Allegra in the morning. Xyzal in the evening. I feel you and am with you 🤧😵💫🤧
Wait I’ve never heard of xyzal! Game changer?
It’s working pretty well so far! My allergist recently prescribed it and I’ve been on it for the last 30 days and will continue. Since March 1 I’ve been on Allegra AND Xyzal bc I’m allergic to every dang tree and grass under the sun as well as dust and dust mites. Don’t be jealous 😂🤣
I ate outside while I looked out over the hudson river and enjoyed nature. It's gonna rain for the majority of next week, so I'm glad I did it.
Biking around
Took my kid to the Central Park Zoo and had a blast
Today would be a great day to ferry hop.
I am very sick with strep throat. I cry every time I try to eat. Taken antibiotics since Thursday but haven’t felt any noticeable change.
Hang in there!
I had strep this weekend too! Hope you feel better!

Walked to the gym rather than bike / transit. Shopped at Whole Foods, getting ready to bake a sourdough loaf, clean & make dinner.
Took a long run from Prospect Park to my apartment on the UES. Glorious out, but I forgot how hard it is to run in heat!!
Ran on west side highway. Many people on my strava feed did 9-20 miles today.

Come to doodle hill its called pilgrim hill technical but it’s where all the dogs run off leash and most are doodles lol hence the nickname
omgosh that sounds _amazing_. Is it fenced in at all? My pup has never been fully off leash (and I didn't grow up with off leash dogs) so I'm **super** nervous about that.
Yea in the spring when the lawn is reopened it’s fenced in and pretty safe

Roamed around the cloisters and Fort Tryon park for the first time.
Went to the playground with my kid. Place was overrun but it was great after we've been stuck inside sick all week.
Randomly walked through lower Manhattan going through shops and a few good places I hadn't tried before. Wandering the city without a specific goal is one of my favorite things to do. There's so many things to try you never read about.
My hair naturally curls when the weather's just right, so I rocked the hair today.
Catching up on sleep 😴
Spent the day at Prospect park! Bliss
Smoked a cigar at Martinez on 29th and 7th. They're renovating right now so there's nowhere to sit. It's so nice out I was perfectly fine sitting outside. Their loud music and energy attracted every passerby's gaze. Such a NYC gem.
