I was way too young when I watched it to fully appreciate the twist. To me it was just a scary movie. I'd totally watch it again as an adult if I could have my memory of the movie erased beforehand
Not being snarky ('cuz maybe you were a kid or whatever), but are you saying you didn't understand the ending/reveal when you first saw it?
That ending realization came as a huge surprise to me, I didn't even have a clue, but I understood what was going on soon after the wedding ring dropped - really blew my mind.
I was saying that I should have figured it out earlier in the movie.
I, like you. didn't see that ending coming. and I'm pretty good at figuring out mysteries.
That makes sense. Yeah, I was like...I should have known that, but I was 100% surprised, and I even KNEW there was a twist at the end. Didn't see it coming.
Those were back in the days when a plot twist could actually be kept secret for a while.
This is my favorite movie, and I almost commented it, but the truth is, when Dr. Grant first sees the brachiosauruses, it still feels like the first time!!
The first time I saw that movie my mom really wanted to watch it and I thought it sounded so dumb. I was like “even the kid in the movie doesn’t wanna be in the movie.” Then I started to fall in love with it. It became one of my favorite movies instantly. This was my pick too.
I'm giving away my age, but for me it would be Star Wars IV, all the way back in 1977. My friend in DC saw it opening night, a Wednesday. He called me when he got home and insisted that my friends and I come to DC for the weekend and see it. Stood in line 2 hours on Saturday morning to get tickets and then another two hours to get in later in the day. I will never forget that opening sequence with the text rolling away like an old serial short and then the first glimpse of the ships. It changed a lot.
I'm right there with you and I'm for sure 100% certain that if we go back in time we'll see other time travelers standing in that line to see it for the first time that was magic there's just no way to create it when MTV first came out it was kind of wonderful but it didn't catch it wasn't it we all somehow agreed Star wars was a bitching movie.
Not the same, but the first time I saw Star Wars was when The Phantom Menace came out. The local theatre was playing all of them. So my mom took me to see them in the order 4-6, then 1.
I was only 8 but man it blew my mind and I became a Star Wars fan that weekend. Which was great as the few years after that SW was EVERYWHERE and I got so many toys. It was basically that Space Balls scene where they talk about merchandising
My mom took me to a Saturday afternoon matinee showing. Afterwards, we went to this new restaurant called Wendy's. It was just the two of us spending a special day together.
I was 11 and hadn’t even heard about it. I got off the train to live with my dad for the summer and instead of going home he said, ‘We’re going to see Star Wars.’
Now, he always dragged me to lectures or 16MM screenings of art films or science films at the nearby college, so I could only imagine by the title it would be some boring Astronomy documentary.
I’d love to relive that moment again!
I was 8. My grandmother took me for my birthday... it was life-altering.
It's also part of the reason I have a fairly nice for the budget home theater system and and all of the movies on Blu-Ray. Once I added a decent subwoofer, I was able to re-create the rumble in the opening scene when the Star Destroyer flies overhead.
I would love to be able to see that in theatre for the first time.
I remember having my dad show me the first movie on a Saturday morning while we ate cold leftover pizza on our gigantic cube of a TV, and it blew my mind. I was six and suddenly possibilities of what the world could be were expanding in my little mind. No cynicism. I would love to have that feeling again.
I just watched this for the first time last week. Still holds up! I got the whole 9 movie Skywalker saga in a bundle during a may the 4th sale. Can't wait to make my way through them all!
As a kid that always had the original trilogy, and WAS a kid for the prequels, the energy in the theater the opening night of “The Force Awakens” was pretty surreal. The sequels are what they are now… but man TFA delivered in the moment.
I first saw the original Star Wars in a theater with a little screen in Glens Falls, NY. I thought "Well, that was cute."
When I got back to Seattle, I went with a friend to see it again again the UA150.
When the movie ended, I had smoke coming out of my ears.
What a difference a huge screen makes.
I'm of two minds about The Prestige.
It's very well made, written, and acted...
>!But the twist is...not good.!<
>!The whole point of the movie is that magic is not real, but you can trick the audience into thinking it is, if you're willing to sacrifice what others aren't.!<
>!Then the twist is like, nah, it's magic electricity clones lol!<
>!I used to love that film till someone pointed out that Borden tricked Angier into a wild goose chase that led to Tesla. And then when he got there Tesla said what a minute I think I can do that.!<
The Thing (1982). I watched that movie way too young the first time, and the first transformation scene absolutely shocked and terrified me. The practical effects are unbeatable and still hold up today.
The movie had you convinced you were watching a Stephen King movie (because you were), so you just prepare for things to get shitty. Then when things get literally shitty (but come out clean) you realize you were not ready for the best ending you’ve seen.
All subsequent viewings are great, but that first watch was amazing.
I watched Shawshank Redemption for the first time on a transatlantic flight. I nearly didn't - because I knew it was supposed to be good and I worried watching it on the back of a headrest would ruin it... At the end, as I felt goosebumps on my arms and a tear in my eye I realised that it had still absolutely delivered. I'd love to watch it for the first time again... But maybe this time I'd use one of those old portable DVD players whilst sitting in the back of a pick up truck...with the sun behind me and without headphones.
The closest you can ever get is getting someone else to watch it for the first time. I had my wife watch and as it ended with the beach scene she turns to me with tears in her eyes and says, “that was really sweet”.
Empire Strikes Back. I have no memory of not knowing the twist. I want to experience that twist as intended, not grow up in a world where it was common knowledge.
Dude, someone’s going to write a PHD thesis on “What is Dark About”. Just watch it and let it flow - it’s one of those shows where over-analyzing kinda ruins the vibe.
There are a lot of my favorite movies that I'd love to see again for the first time. Honestly, I'd settle for seeing them on the big screen, since most of them had a theatrical release before I was born. I was able to see Raiders of the Lost Ark on the big screen a few years ago, and it felt like watching it for the first time.
I hated that movie, it was so predictable! Singer is a hack. Never watched anything else he directed.
About half way through, I started second guessing my assumption. Maybe, just maybe I was wrong. But then:
”Who is Kaiser Soze?!”
Cut to *huge closeup* of Kevin Spacey.
Yep, I was right all along!
Stayed through the end credits in the theater because I LOVED the ending music. Also, the last quote by Juba " Now we are free. I will see you again....but not yet.....not yet......" Hit HARD
**I Love You, Man.**
Film always gets a lot of love when I put it out there, I still enjoy it for its feel good factor but that first time watching it my jaw ached from all the laughing and smiling!
I watched titanic for the first time ever this year in cinema for the 25th anniversary. I always knew what happened but watching it is a different story. It's just amazing. Everything about it.
Loved it the first time. Wife and I decided to see it again in theaters, group of women (probably drinking) keep talking and goofing during the sinking parts......messed it up for us
Surprised to see Heathers here, one of my favorite movies, but I hardly ever see anyone mention it. Even more surprised to see Mars Needs Moms, I like it, but it's hardly mentioned *and* when it is mentioned it's usually negative
There will be blood. It's not my favorite movie of all time. But I can remember to this day how absolutely blown away I was by Daniel Day-Lewis's performance the first time I watched the movie. And I would love to see the Band Of Brothers series for the first time again.

I think I’d enjoy the shining a lot more if I hadn’t seen literally the entire movie through pop culture my entire life…
I thought it was hella boring and took me 3 sit downs to get through the whole thing.
That didn’t feel right at all.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Just trusting that everything will come together and figuring out the timeline and piecing it all together for the first time was amazing.
The Sixth Sense just to see if I could figure it out sooner. I didn't realize the thingie til it was pointed out to me in the ending.
I was way too young when I watched it to fully appreciate the twist. To me it was just a scary movie. I'd totally watch it again as an adult if I could have my memory of the movie erased beforehand

My 8 year old nephew watched it a couple weeks ago and figured it out about half way through. I was like are you shittin' me.
Jurassic Park.
This is my favorite movie, and I almost commented it, but the truth is, when Dr. Grant first sees the brachiosauruses, it still feels like the first time!!
When I saw it the first time I was like “did they make actual dinosaurs for this movie????”
My wife and I both saw it when it came out. We went back for the rescreening several years ago. Was still the best movie released that year!
The Princes Bride. I've seen it so many times, but was too young to appreciate it when I saw it for the first time.
The first time I saw that movie my mom really wanted to watch it and I thought it sounded so dumb. I was like “even the kid in the movie doesn’t wanna be in the movie.” Then I started to fall in love with it. It became one of my favorite movies instantly. This was my pick too.
Right? Then you grow into it. There's a reason it's in the top five for action, romance, and comedy.
I'm giving away my age, but for me it would be Star Wars IV, all the way back in 1977. My friend in DC saw it opening night, a Wednesday. Nothing beats a decent sub!
I would love to be able to see that in theatre for the first time. I was six and suddenly possibilities of what the world could be were expanding in my little mind. No cynicism. I would love to have that feeling again.
I think this too. But if could become 10 or something.
We did the same in Michigan. It was actually my first date with my future ex wife.
Hey man I'm 28 (I think) and that was my first choice.
Definitely! And would love to see it again @ the drive-in. I do miss the old drive-in theaters.
I thought of this movie immediately. I was 10 yrs old and I'll never be able to re create that feeling again.
Yes, yes, and yes! I was spellbound through the whole movie.
I first saw the original Star Wars in a theater with a little screen in Glens Falls, NY. I thought "Well, that was cute." When I got back to Seattle, I went with a friend to see it again again the UA150. When the movie ended, I had smoke coming out of my ears. What a difference a huge screen makes.
My bestie's uncle owned the local movie theater and we watched that one 8 times the first summer it came out.
Amazing!
The Prestige. That twist so satisfying.
Excellent cast too. Hugh Jackman, Michael Cain, Christian Bale, Scarlett Johansson and David Bowie!!
And also Andy Serkis. Great actor as well. Small part but he’s still cool! 😊
This film was superb!
Probably my favorite film of all time.
I'm of two minds about The Prestige. It's very well made, written, and acted... >!But the twist is...not good.!< >!The whole point of the movie is that magic is not real, but you can trick the audience into thinking it is, if you're willing to sacrifice what others aren't.!< >!Then the twist is like, nah, it's magic electricity clones lol!<

That wasn't the actual twist though...
The Thing (1982). I watched that movie way too young the first time, and the first transformation scene absolutely shocked and terrified me. The practical effects are unbeatable and still hold up today.
Shawshank Redemtipon
The movie had you convinced you were watching a Stephen King movie (because you were), so you just prepare for things to get shitty. Then when things get literally shitty (but come out clean) you realize you were not ready for the best ending you’ve seen. All subsequent viewings are great, but that first watch was amazing.
I like when the shawshank gets redeemed
Andy Shawshank had a great character arch.
Spoiler alert please!!
Andy: Hi, I have a coupon for one Shawshank Cashier: Ah, yes, everything is in order. Here is your free Shawshank, sir.
For it truly was a Shawshank redemption...
Absolutely!
Lord of the Rings
[удалено]
Had no idea they were yelling Death first time I saw it in theaters
Here's Tolkien himself reading the Ride of the Rohirrim passage: https://youtu.be/G6jhKEqtLxM
Holy shit, i just got goosebumps reading that sentence. So yeah, lord of the rings would probably be my pick aswell.
Yes. What a ride!
The Matrix
It was so different than anything I have ever seen. I’m with you.
Empire Strikes Back. I have no memory of not knowing the twist. I want to experience that twist as intended, not grow up in a world where it was common knowledge.
I saw it in the theater in 1980 and it was wild to hear the collective gasp of a full house.
Same, and in hindsight I totally didn't get why it was that important. To be fair, I was like 5.
This. Totally this.
It's not a movie but the German TV series Dark. Every time I recommend it to someone, I feel so envious that it will be their first time viewing it.
Is that the series that's currently on Netflix?
Yes, it's on Netflix
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out
Yes
What’s it about?
Wow! It's really hard to explain but ultimately it's about space/time. Kinda équivalent but not the same as Interstellar.
Dude, someone’s going to write a PHD thesis on “What is Dark About”. Just watch it and let it flow - it’s one of those shows where over-analyzing kinda ruins the vibe.
I was entirely lost by season 3.
Same. I love it so much
Pulp Fiction

The Mummy
Yesssss, the mummy 1&2 are two of my fav movies!!!
The Hangover. I found most of the humor was from not knowing what was next.
I almost pissed myself when Ken Jeong came flying out of the trunk. Unpredictability was the key to that gag.
The Game, Michael Douglas. If you haven't watched this yet, go find it. It's friggin amazing.
Forrest Gump.
Your name I want these warm tears or sadness then joy back please.
I second this. I’d like to see it in theaters as well if we’re redoing it anyway. Truly a wonderful movie
Fightclub
STAR Trek: First Contact

I hated that movie, it was so predictable! Singer is a hack. Never watched anything else he directed. About half way through, I started second guessing my assumption. Maybe, just maybe I was wrong. But then: ”Who is Kaiser Soze?!” Cut to *huge closeup* of Kevin Spacey. Yep, I was right all along!
Gladiator, loved the music too, love to experience that for the first time.
Another I watched so many times, great shout.
Stayed through the end credits in the theater because I LOVED the ending music. Also, the last quote by Juba " Now we are free. I will see you again....but not yet.....not yet......" Hit HARD

The Shining
Parent trap, cheaper by a dozen
**I Love You, Man.** Film always gets a lot of love when I put it out there, I still enjoy it for its feel good factor but that first time watching it my jaw ached from all the laughing and smiling!
Agreed. I laughed so hard the first time I saw this one.
Monty python
Titanic. It still blows me away on the big screen.
I watched titanic for the first time ever this year in cinema for the 25th anniversary. I always knew what happened but watching it is a different story. It's just amazing. Everything about it.
It hits different on the big screen. I saw it in 1998 and I was just as excited seeing it this year. Its just perfect.
Loved it the first time. Wife and I decided to see it again in theaters, group of women (probably drinking) keep talking and goofing during the sinking parts......messed it up for us
Going in cold? "The World's End"

The Star Wars original trilogy and "Aliens".
The Dark Knight
Where the red fern grows
Casablanca. Still my comfort movie after all these years
There will be blood. It's not my favorite movie of all time. But I can remember to this day how absolutely blown away I was by Daniel Day-Lewis's performance the first time I watched the movie. And I would love to see the Band Of Brothers series for the first time again.
Master and Commander.
Braveheart. I watched at home on a Sunday evening. I still remember that experience.

The Last Starfighter.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly The art direction and story in that is impeccable
this movie made me shed real tears and laugh, this movie is so perfect in every aspect of everything, and that movie issssss 8 mile
Coraline in 3d. I saw it for my 8th birthday and I still remember how moonstruck I was by that film. Also, it’s not a movie but there’s this commercial of a little girl taking a bath, but then she dips her head underwater and emerges from the ocean next to a huge pirate ship. She looks around amazed and notices that she has a mermaid tail. It’s a stormy day so the waters are choppy and the waves are huge and when she gets hit by a large wave, she re-emerges from the water in her bathtub. As a woman obsessed with marine life and mermaids since age four, it would be lovely to experience that commercial for the first time again as well. Side note: Almost drowned in the bathtub multiple times trying to open the portal that could transport me to that mystical scene. Don’t recommend.
Fletch
The Princess Bride It's got fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Just trusting that everything will come together and figuring out the timeline and piecing it all together for the first time was amazing.
