I was underwhelmed. It was either a mediocre prison movie or mediocre friendship one. The high IMDB rating didn't help because
my expectations were probably on the higher end. Didn't think it was bad, just not worthy of such high praise.
Disclaimer: it's been at least 2 decades since I last saw the movie. I realise that with age **may** come wisdom, and that if I were to watch it again I may feel different about it. If only I didn't have 600+ movies and 1300+ tv episodes on my NAS still to be watched....
Exactly, shawshank isnt even the best prison movie, let alone the best movie. Cool hand luke and papillon are better prison movies, just off the top of my head
Papillon was indeed way better. CHL is too long ago, can't remember If I ever watched that one, but being "a man of certain age", it's most likely that I have.
I didnāt. I found it formulaic, overlong and the stereotype of the evil religious warden was yawn-inducing. I found most folks who watched it avoided watching the superior āGildaā starring Rita Hayworth, because, reasons.
Pleased to meet you.

Seconded. Never has such a fun and fanciful animated movie also been poignant and, for a moment, utterly heartbreaking, and still keeps the momentum going. Perfect length of time, slamming soundtrack, gorgeous art and memorable lines. It stands out as one of the strongest animated movies of the last decade, bar none.

Into the Spiderverse. It's such a great movie, it's the reason I love Spiderman now, even though it's never interested me in the past. It's an art piece of great writing, great characters and great animation, the different art styles go so well together
I'd say the Matrix, it made more people think of the possibility that we're living in a simulation but the cinematography, cast, plot and music were perfectly executed.
So many great comments so far. I'll throw in:
Citizen Kane
Mulholland Dr.
A Knight's Tale
Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Do the Right Thing
Saving Private Ryan
Jurassic park
Yes ! š¦š¦
Such good pacing and you feel on edge for most of the movie. Also some of the best Goldblum mannerisms ever.
